The year, as humanity reckons time, is 3049. For centuries, Earth and all it's colonies have been part of the grand Interstellar Union; a pan-galactic alliance of over 200 alien races dedicated to exploration, ascension, and prosperity.
Although the Union stands strong, the problems they face are many...not the least of which being a terrifying enemy on the horizon that encroaches ever closer to Union space...the vicious and merciless Shaard'Aak Dominion; conquerors and cold blooded killers with a nigh-unstoppable military.
As for troubles within the Union's borders, there have been increased incidents of terrorism and piracy, leading many to consider either reforming the Union, or seceeding entirely.
The terrorists themselves, however, will call themselves freedom fighters, battling against a corruption that has been ever growing, beneath the notice of the public.
Not all is lost, however, for new fleets of ships are being built with technological contributions from many races, a feat that truly represents a unified front and hope for the future.
