The Interstellar Union The Interstellar Union is a collection of worlds and colonies across the majority of the galaxy, the 247 member races ruled by a bureaucracy of representatives known as the Quorum Galaxia. The Quorum works daily to address the various affairs that affect the Union as a whole, as well as meet with various ambassadors and private guilds. (edited)

Capitol Prime The Quorum, in addition to their families, staff, and other citizens from all walks of life, live and work upon Capitol Prime. This ancient Dyson Sphere has existed since long before the Union was established, built by an unknown race believed to be long extinct. Within the sphere, there exists a thriving ecosystem equal to three Eden-class planets; as well as an equally thriving urban environment that includes everything from museums to bars to markets to theatres to temples. Capitol Prime is maintained by a combination of an engineering workforce and mechanized drones that have been there for as long as the sphere itself. There are five artificial moons that orbit Capitol Prime, each one acting as massive weapon platforms and shipyards, thus making the sphere an extremely well-defended target. (edited)

The Aurora Strider This ship is the first of a new design, using a combination of alien technologies that make it a true ship of the Union. It's a medium sized gunship and courier vessel, built for a crew numbering 3-5 people, with amenities such as comfortable crew quarters, a kitchen with full replicators, top of the line computers, and state of the art engines. Weaponry The weapons of the galactic community have a wide and varied range: Advanced ballistics, electromagnetics, energy, sonics, chemicals, and biologicals. Melee weapons are a more common sight than one ususally suspects, as well.

Armor Armor, shields, and other protective measures are just as numerous and varied as offensive tech. The materials used are likewise different: Kevlar, metal, graphene, polymer, energy, and even non-newtonian fluids or insulating gels.

The Shaard'Aak Dominion If ever there was a foe worthy of the Union's attention, it would be the Dominion. Led by the utterly ruthless and predatory Shaard'Aak, and populated by 48 conquered species, the Dominion spans a quarter of the known galaxy, their bloodlust and savagery only matched by the power of their seemingly unstoppable war machine.

Medicine As can be expected, medical technology has improved by leaps and bounds within the Union. This is the most freely shared technology, as most (if not all) races can agree that being healthy and long-lived is a good thing. There exists everything from full scanners that can map your body down to the genome within minutes, to nanomachines that can help fix anatomy on the cellular level. The only downside would probably be medical students who now include xenoanatomy to an already exhaustive study course.

Space Travel As everyone knows, the galaxy is an unspeakably vast place; and getting from one planet to another requires levels of speed that are nigh-incomprehensible. To this end, the technology required to traverse these distances are seen as a measure of technological development in a species, thus a requirement for admission into the Union. -Warp drive is the first stage of travel, moving at light and sublight speeds. One can travel fast enough to reach another planet without using generation ships or cryogenic stasis, as required with conventional propulsion. However, this can still take months or years to accomplish. While one cannot enter the Union as a full member, one can still apply to be a protectorate. -Transwarp is the next stage, being able to move at Faster-Than-Light speeds, making travel to nearby worlds into hours rather than years. This is the minimum requirement for entry into the Union. -Hyperspace Slipstream is the standard insofar as space travel for most species. It allows for travel via entry into Hyperspace, a more "compressed" version of normal space that allows for faster travel, shortening a century-long journey down to half a day or so. -Singularity Jump is the most advanced form of travel yet discovered. This method allows instantaneous travel between two points using a wormhole "stabilized" by an artificial quantum singularity created on both ends via immense Jump Gates. This discovery has allowed more advanced species within the Union to profit from mass transit businesses and trade contracts. (edited)

Molecular Fabrication and Replication While building, crafting, and cooking are far from being lost arts, The galaxy at large still enjoys the convenience of various machines capable of creating just about anything, from bread to bulkheads. The process involves molecular rearrangement of inert matter into whatever shape, size, and formulae are programmed into the device. Naturally, these appliances come in whatever sizes are required to process what is requested. Despite this revolutionary technology, many believe that there's a certain quality lacking when comparing molecular processing to traditional crafting methods.

HISTORY OF EARTH AND THE TERRAN FEDERATION The Final World War and The Reclamation In the year 2194, overpopulation and depleting resources have led to ever-rising tensions in the world, driven by the ever-present specters of greed and intolerance. Despite making advances in space travel to the point of sending ships out to other nearby worlds, it is a case of "too little, too late" in the eyes of the populace, as multiple international conflicts and rioting plunge the world into the chaos of what is now known as the Final World War. This chaos is snuffed out in a mere few hours when, at the culmination of the Final War, limited nuclear exchanges result in the near-extinction of humanity. Reduced now to a lawless, annihilated, irradiated wasteland, it takes 300 years for Earth to rebuild, made possible by both native Terrans and exoplanetary colonials who returned to Earth in order to help restore order. This effort is known to history as the Reclamation. Both Terrans and Colonials would have to enforce a harsh brand of frontier justice to quell the violence of the world, to say nothing of the mutated predators that came about from the fires of nuclear, chemical, and biological warfare. Humanity themselves had changed as well, with some of their number genetically engineered to be physically and mentally superior, as well as wielding technology beyond what the average wasteland dwellers used. Finally, however, order would prevail, contact with the exoplanet colonies would be re-established, and the Terran Federation would be born.

The Contact War and Membership in the Union Over the next century, the Federation would expand their territory to new worlds as their spacefaring technology improved to Transwarp status. However, their First Contact with an alien species would not be a peaceful one. A non-Union aligned saurian race called the Sangheili would invade without quarter and seek to conquer the Terran worlds. Despite the superior numbers of the Sangheili, they did not account for the sheer guile and tenacity of Terran forces, who managed to beat the invasion forces back to their own space after a grueling 10 year campaign. The Sangheili Empire finally surrendered not long after the Federation decimated several Imperial colony worlds, agreeing to a peace treaty and a unified effort to aid each other in rebuilding. Despite now having the Sangheili as an ally rather than an enemy, the damage done was immense, taking 30 years for both races to begin trusting one another and fully recover from the devastation. By the year 2873, the Intersteallar Union would contact both species to petition for membership, to which both agreed, granting them access to the knowledge of the greater galactic community. It is now the year 3049. Humanity is a full member of the Union, it's territory having grown by leaps and bounds. While the Terran Federation still has their problems both within and without, it is for the most part a model of growth and stability.

GROUPS OF INTEREST CrackCog.org This group of "AI Fundamentalists" are of the belief that fully cognizant AI is inherently dangerous and will one day seek to conquer or annihilate all biological life, seeing it as inferior. To this end, they are typically encountered on the GalaxyWeb or Digital Nebula, sending out viruses and "kill codes" to wipeout or severely diminish AI matrices throughout the galaxy. On occasion, they are also known to attack hardware such as Server Planets and Memory Centers.

Death Strands An extremist group believing in nothing less than the complete abolishment of genetic engineering and the extermination of anything that doesn't fit their description of "genetic purity." Their reasoning for this mission ranges from the religious to the practical, believing that one day genetic science will destroy all sense of identity and achievement, or give rise to hellish abominations and incurable pestilence. Their methods are cold and thorough, making no distinction between species or age.
