As Ben would move to sit beside of her, his eyes studied the horizon, remembering fun days they had on the ranch together. The fenced in areas were another world for the two of them growing up before he got in trouble, but now... All distant memories.
He eyed the ground for a moment as he sat on the swing, her saying she didn't imagine him with a kid, "Believe me, I didn't either," he smirked as he looked at the ground, "But, once you see them, those eyes locking on theirs when they first come out... Man, it is life changing. Made me change everything."
He nodded in thanks for the compliment, but when she asked about the mother, he had to just giggle, "Your mom didn't tell you anything, did she?"
He sighed as he looked at the ground, "I don't know if mistake is the right word, or savior is the right word for what happened, but do you remember Kathleen Sturges?"
Kathleen Sturges would have been one of the more alternative and 'emo' girls from around the area, but one of the girls that fit in with every clique in the school. She never had an enemy and she was one of the few that use to hang out in the 'gang,' as he would call it, that ran with everyone.
"I was drinking one night, shock, right?" He laughed as he mentioned his previous drinking, "Well, she came to console me for something insignificant... I didn't talk to anyone for six months after you left. Depression, anixety, paranoid... It was bad. Well, she came over and turned me around. We were together for maybe a week afterwards before we decided that the relationship was just a comfort thing for us, we didn't love one another, but we were still very friendly. Well, apparently during that week, she got pregnant and let me know. Changed my life... I started doing better for that little girl. Kathleen is one of the big wigs in real estate around her now, how I ended up with the lumber mill. Didn't you all talk about this?"
