The Marsh. That was what the locals referred to it as, as little of them as there were. The folks in these parts were unkind. Reclusive. Sometimes even dangerous, to outsiders anyways. So perhaps it came as a surprise to Akari Hyte that this was where her gilded invitation had led her. All around her was mud, moss, fallen trees, fungus. And a thick layer of fog that made it difficult to see further than ten feet ahead of one's self. However, the envelope guided the way. Its light glowing brightest when she was facing the direction she was supposed to go, and dimming when she strayed from its path. It was a hassle, surely, but the promises inside made it well worth her while, if what it said was to be believed. Anything she could ever want. Wealth, and power. Fame and fortune. Blood and glory. All seemingly at the hands of this underground society. Akari Hyte, The letter addressed. We have watched. We have listened from afar. We have use for your skills. The Crow sends his regards, and formally invites you to join his flock. Offer to us your unique talents. Name your price. His power knows no bounds. Enclosed were the directions to this mysterious place, along with a closing statement. We are watching. We are waiting.

Akari contemplated for days about this random letter she received. This could of been a trap to kill her. She had a lot of enemies from all of the different jobs she had taken in the small time she had been a merc. But the money offer of naming her own price seemed too good also. This was a 50/50 shot for her to either be attack or make a lot of money. She decided to be cautious when going to the render-vous. This petite size kitsune looked out of place in the environment she was in. Akari was fairly small in frame but she did have 9 long white tails that always lingered behind her. They would always dance with the wind when ever she took a step and would flick around when her dead army was out. This was her source of her power. Akari would Command her necros by flicking her tails in specific ways and they would simply obey her wishes. At this moment while she was in the unknown, she had a few body guards of zombies that would keep guard close to her while there was a few skeleton rats skittering the grounds to see if anyone would try to ambush her.

As far as her minions could tell, the marsh was empty. Desolate. Isolated. And the fog had no small part to play in that feeling, either. Perhaps it wasn't reassuring. After all. They had been watching her, and if they had been, she had not been able to detect them. Were they doing so now? Many questions certainly came to mind, however, as Akari absently thought of them along the way, she would finally approach a clearing. The willow branches of the trees thinned, as the muck grew shallow. And most importantly, her envelope glowed brighter than ever before. Within a single step, a cascade of illusory magic dispersed, and a wooden plank appeared before Akari. And then another, and then another. Until a rickety path of planks led straight ahead. A barrier, encasing what almost appeared as a small city of tents. Various stripes of white, red, blue, and black covering whatever may have been occurring beneath the fabric, and strung lights. Separate from these tents, a small, abandoned church on the westward side of the city, shabby and decrepit. And to the east, a small wooden cabin, seemingly in the same state of disrepair.

Akari's surroundings were what she feared a bit. Empty. There was no signs of life around her as she kept on creeping further and further into the unknown lands. The lands she was in was really causing problems to her fur. The humidity, the ickyness of the air was causing her fur and skin to become gross with sweat and moisture which made her VERY unhappy. She will have to bathe right after meeting up with whom ever wrote the letter. She finally found her destination when the letter she held in her hand started to glow even brighter when she got near to a clearing, soon a path morphed in front of her and she slowly started to take a few steps onto the planks. This was getting really weird Akari thought. As she approached the city, Her eyes and ears started to take in all of the new environment. Was she actually in the right place? She just took a few steps in the city and she felt already lost. With no one around her yet, she started to walk down the path towards church, which to her, seemed to be the best bet to find some one that can help her.

Sure enough, Akari approached the tent city, hooded guards posted just outside the entrace regarding her with glowing blue irises beneath their raven black clothing. Their gazes followed her, in sync with one another, their necks turning until she was fully past them, to which, they regarded the empty marsh once more. Once inside, Akari would almost assuredly lose sight of the church. Many awnings and fabric overhangs. Tents of many different sizes and shapes and colors making it hard to get a handle of where one might have been going. However, there seemed to be a layout. Two streets to the left, one after the other. One had a series of smaller, personal looking tents. Shops, perhaps? While the street afer had larger tents, three of them, with crowds seeming to move in and out of them in large numbers. And to the right, it seemed far less crowded, a small narrow road, leading up towards the shoddy wooden cabin.

The city was a obnoxious maze that irritated Akari very much. Every where she looked, there was different size and colour tents that kept everything hidden. All she could see now on the streets were the tents. It was such an ugly sight to the kitsune who only like the richest and cleanest things. Was this a mistake for her to come here? Her first instinct was to find the church. It was her best bet to find some one there that could help her. But as she went down the path of the road, she started to notice she couldnt see the church anymore. With a loud and over exaggerated sigh, she started to make her way down the right path leading somewhere else. Maybe after a long enough time she could find some one to explain her the letter. It didnt take long till some one noticed her. The kitsune was really out of place in this city. Her bright colours of her clothing, her nine long white tails that seem to be almost the size of a person each and her small frame screamed "im not from here!". it didnt take too much brain power to realize this. The figure slowly shifted towards her as she walked down the right path. The moment he got close to her, he placed a hand upon her shoulder but immediately had a hand casted upon his own shoulder. When he looked upon his left, he saw one of the zombies that were still keeping guard looking straight at him. It only took a fraction of a second before the man quickly backed away from Akari in fear.
Avatar
"Are you lost?" A deep, bellowing voice could be heard in front of Akari as she turned from the man backed away from her. And as she turned to face him, a tall, broad-shouldered figure stood before her. Two raven colored braids running down his chest, as the rest of his hair flowed freely down his back. His chest was bare, laden with scratches and scars across his solid muscular frame. Looking down at Akari were piercing purple eyes, regarding her with a neutral expression, eyebrow aloft. Curious. He stood directly in front of her, blocking the rest of the path towards the shoddy, worn down cabin that was only a short walk away.

Akari did not give any of her attention to the first man who place their hands upon her body. She could have that guy dead by her zombies within seconds if she so desired. The man in front of her that spoke to her was entitle to some of her attention. She stopped dead in her tracks looking at the man with one of her fox ear flick on the top of her head. She really did stick out in this place too much after all. So the man really didn't have to ask that question to know the answer. The young kitsune cross her arms in front of Syren with a slight pout to her face. "yeah.. ive been given this letter to follow a lead to get a job.. But im starting to regret this decision since this place is so icky.. Its going to take DAYS to take all of this humidity and putrid air out of my taisl! uhhh!!" she said with a bit of anger in her voice.

The man released a small huff from his chest. Amusement, was it? After which, he'd glanced towards her invitation. "You are on your way to exchange your invitation, I take it." He glanced over his shoulder towards the cabin, which in truth was not very far from the two of them, easily reachable within the minute, two more guards stationed outside, this time in front of the door. They were unavoidable. The man would glance back to her thereafter, arms folded across his chest.

Akari was really unamused with the man in front of her. From how he was acting and the expression on his face, was he making fun of her? "Yes i am i supposed.. im not sure.. this letter is so cryptic and there is no map of this place.. im not even sure if i can leave this place with out getting lost" Akari said as the zombies started to crumble on themselves into dust. She did not need them anymore in this area. But if she needed them they would crawl back from the ground in a matter of seconds ready to assist her. "Are you from them? Are you here to help me out? If you arent.. then get out of my way before i make you one of my soldiers.. ill make sure you are the one that licks my boots clean every day!" The impatient kitsune was starting to get reallt irritated by now. Pushing her buttons would cause her to only get angrier.

The dark elven man did not even seem to flinch at her threat. Truly, it did not seem he was scared of her, whether in part because of her small stature, or simply because he was confident in his own abilities. He replied with a flat "You do not intimidate me." After doing so, he would look to her invitation. "Exchange the invitation at the cabin for a voucher at the goldsmith. From there you will secure a way to return to this place at will. After doing so, report to Vin, at the church." Once he'd finished speaking, he would move past her to continue moving along the path, a weave of magic enveloping him as his form shifted into that of a massive bear. Suddenly it made more sense. He was amused that the mud caused her issues because he must've been used to the very same happening to him. If she had nothing further to say to him, he would carry on into the night.

she became a bit more angry at the response she got from the man. "You do not intimidate me" who does this guy think he is! He should be bending down on one knee to her like every one else! The fur on her tails and ears started to rise from her anger but quickly relax when the man gave her some information finally. She did not turn to face his back when he passed her to go on his way. She stayed still with her eyes focused on the wooden cabin in front of her. Not even a thank you or goodbye escaped her lips to acknowledge the mans help. But she did stop being angry and started to walk towards the cabin. Her tails flutter behind her as she kept on walking towards the cabin. They became quite heavy by this time with the humidity and were causing some lower back pain on Akari from their sheer mass. They were fairly heavy on their own already. Her mood was starting to reflect her pain and her patience was going to be worst than it was with the other man.

And so the two parted ways. At least for now. The cabin looming up ahead with two guards posted in front of the doorway, barring any entry. As Akari had gotten closer one of them extended their hand. Their voice monochrome. Almost as if they were a construct. "Invitation." The guard said simply. Presumably asking for Akari's as he held his hand outstretched. The other watched, remaining vigilant and alert.

Akari stoped in front of the cabin where the two guards were posted and watched them closely. She supposed this was the correct place. Maybe she will thank that man later if she ever sees him again. She slowly took the invitation and placed it in the mans hand. She did not try to do anything to show any aggression towards the guard. All she wanted now was a nice long bath and some one to groom her tails. Of course the kitsune felt above herself to do the grooming on her own. Even though she generally had to do it on her own.

As she handed over the invitation, the guard inspected it wordlessly, his eyes scanning its authenticity through the slits of his mask. After which, he handed it back, and stepped aside. The other guard opened the door, and Akari was granted entry to the cabin. The inside was in no better condition than the outside, it seemed. The floors rickety, and noisy. And the cabin itself was almost entirely empty, aside from a desk sat at the center of the room, new, and intricately made, with crimson and gold embroidery overlaying its fine oak finish. Sat behind the desk in a chair of equal value, was a smaller woman, small perhaps even by Akari's standards. Comically large glasses worn on her face, idly twirling a pen within her hand. "Your invitation, ma'am?" She spoke, looking up from her paperwork.

Akari slowly entered the cabin after she was allowed to by the guards. She did not even say thanks or bye to them. Not even looking at them after she got her papers back. The kitsune was getting quite irritated now and her patience was getting thinner and thinner by the minute. Inside of the cabin it did not look any better than the outside. What did she expect to look like a 5 star hotel in here after seeing the outside of the cabin? what did she get herself in to.. She made her way towards the only other person in the room, offered her invitation to the lady with a stern look. It took her days to get here, this lady should really not mess with her at the moment.

The lady did not seem to be one for interaction, or even conversation. As the invitation was given to her, it was filed in one of the many stacks of envelopes, as she pulled free a small blank square of paper, hitting it with a black stamp. The stamp was in the shape of a crow, perched upon a branch as she slid it over the counter, keeping the invitation. After doing so, she glanced back up to Akari. "Take this voucher to the goldsmith's stall. From there he will give you a free identification pin. You may use it to return at your leisure."

Akari stood there silently while the lady did her work with her invitation and gave her a new thing. It looked a simple piece of paper with just a stamp on it. But the logo on it made her think of a interaction she previously had a few moments earlier. The man with the raven coloured braids in his hair. She did not know why but just the simple black colour and the crow logo just reminded her of his hair. She quickly pushed the though back in to the back of her mind as the lady started to talk once again. "thanks" she only replied with. She turned her back towards the lady. Her tails followed suit after a few seconds of her turning around. With that settled, she made her way out of the cabin with a huge sigh of disappointment. Now she had to go and find a other random place in this maze of tents!

To the benefit of Akari, one of the guards would point her in the right direction after she emerged from the cabin. The first pathway nearest the gate where the smaller stalls and tents were located. As she walked, she would witness many of the denizens that walked this strange place. The majority of them were masked, or hooded. And the few of them that did display their faces seemed to be accompanied by other people. Assuming she moved to where the guards had directed her, she would begin to make out many of the smaller stalls along the way. An alchemist's stall, with all manner of reagents and concoctions. An unmarked, unlabeled stall with a mysterious magical figure stood behind it, its entire body composed of magic, and its form held together by strips of cloth. One particular tent held a few scantily clad women posted just outside of it, looking at passersby with an inviting and all too friendly gaze. And of course, the gold smith's stall. Glass display cases held buckles, cuff links, rings, necklaces, and more. Pins for coats, brooches, and other small accessories. If it could be made in gold, it seemed like it could be sold there. Stood just behind the front table was a rather scrawny looking man of chestnut hair, and a scraggly beard. Missing a few teeth from his otherwise toothy smile, he was unassuming, perhaps even weak at a first glance. And he stood awaiting any potential customers, one boot propped onto a stool, while his elbows crossed over his elevated leg.

Akari exited the cabin and looked back into the streets she just came from. The lady did not give her any help to find the smith shop for her next task. She had a hard time finding this place already. Her tails behind her started to flick aggressively from her losing all of her patients with this flock. But she was some what rewarded by one of the guards who pointed her towards one of the streets where she should take to get to the black smith. Maybe she was not the only one who was given so little information on where to go next. The kitsune made her way in the streets seeing the vast of different occupations there was around. It seems very underground-esk in here. Lots of taboo stuff, illegal activites, hush hush you name it. Nothing really that could interest the girl at all. Magic? she can make her own powerful undead spells. Women? not really her go to for pass times. Further down the road she found what she was looking for and quickly skipped towards the Blacksmith and offered him her black piece of cloth. "i was told to offer this to you and you'll make me something." she said with no particular expression on her face.

"Aaayyyeeeupp.." The man said, straightening himself out as Akari handed him the voucher. He had a thick, soulful twang in his voice. Charming to some, but.. Rather unintelligent sounding to others. The few front teeth missing from his mouth certainly didn't help in that notion. "What'cha lookin' for? Pin for the shirt? Buckle for yer belt? Boot? I gots all kinds of bits here. Gen-u-ine gold. Hope y'ain't got a target on your back. But who'm I kiddin'.. Everyone around these parts gots a target on their back." He glanced to the side, spitting into a small wooden bucket next to his feet. Akari blinked at the man with out responding at first. This guy could probably snap her in to by simply grabbing her petite body with on of his hands. But she could easily destroy him and his soul with her necromancy warriors. To each their own way of fighting of course. Her tails started to bat behind her with a hint of excitement at some of the words he was saying. Could he make her anything she want? but why does she need anything that he is naming? what else could he make for her. Her mind started to race a bit. She started to imagine what could look at the best on her and compliment her attire at anytime. Something for her neck? waist? her tails? she slowly look at at the man and slowly offered a tail towards him. "can you make something for this?'" she asked him.

The man looked towards one of her tails as it was offered to him. It.. was certainly the first time he'd been faced with such a proposal. "Whut-- you mean like a tail ring? I could make one, but honestly if you don't wanna wait a week an' then some, could just give you a wrist cuff big enough to fit around it." He already started to look around in the various chests and displays he had. He didn't really seem to have any tools of the trade around, implying he either didn't make things that often, or simply didn't make them here in the city. He pulled a few cuffs and bracelets from a few different chests. They were pretty thick. Solid, too. Each of varying sizes, some probably a bit tight, others looking snug enough to fit the tail without being overbearing. "And 'course, after the voucher business is all done, can always come back anytime iff'n you need more gold accessories." He offered her a toothy smile.

She though on the tail ring that the Blacksmith as mention. Would it look great on her tail though? what if shes able to customize it and tell him what she wanted. He did mention she could come back in a week to get it and use this right now. Maybe she was thinking about a armor of sort like people wear on their fingers but for her tail? And with that, she got an idea. "what about like some tail armor? to either put it on the base or the tip? do you think it would look pretty?" she ask him with a fluster of eye bats at him. She was trying to get some praises from him. Even though he was not his type but teasing him might get her what she wants!

"Tail armor. Can't say for certain I'm the man you wanna be talking to for that. Buuut-- I could make bladed tail-tips or somethin' or other if I got a measurement from ya. Anything aside from that you'd probably be wanting to talk to a leatherworker, get you something flexible for all the wiggle bones in 'em." He.. Wasn't really a smart man, but he still somehow knew what he was talking about. Nor did he seem to acknowledge the fluttering eyes and invitation to compliment her. Oblivious? Ignoring it? It was hard to say, but, she did have an offer for bladed tail barbs at the very least. "With the voucher though I'd recommend something more discrete. This here identification pin will be your ticket in, and ticket out, might as well keep it somewhere close to ya. Somewhere it won't break. Mhm?"

The bladed tip sounded like a great idea to Akari. She gave herself all the credit also since she was the one spitt balling ideas to the man. Her tails fluttered at the idea and a huge smile came across her face. "yes! that would be pretty!" at the word of measurements, the girl quickly turned around and offered him a tail in his direction for him to measure and touch. The tails were coming out just above her skirt and belt. right under her shirt where the tails were slightly lifting up so a bit of her back was exposed. But it did not matter much to Akari if her back was slightly exposed in some angles. As long as nothing else is... Akari kinda listened to the man talking about being cautious with the voucher and shrugged. "ill be fine.. ill attach it to my belt and keep it there.." she slowly placed it in the side of her belt to have it there for now. Maybe later she can buy a small pouch from a vendor to keep it more secure but for now, her mind was all about her new tail tips.

Sure enough, the man took her measurements for one of her tails, making a mental note in his head where he could write it down sometime later. The pin had a clip, which was easily adhered to her belt. After her measurements were taken, he released her tail and got comfortable behind the counter once more. "Alllllllrighty then. Got the pin, got yer order. Though, gonna need to know what you want these tips made from. Gold ain't really a weapon swinging material. Truegold might hold up better. Lighter, sturdier. Empowers enchantments, all that magical hoodoo. It'll cost ya tho. Got iron. Steel. Mithril. Uhh, truesilver, truesteel.. All the truemetals." (edited)

Her tails were a pure white colour and very thick. She had to think of what colour would look best on her. Aberrantly she couldn't just use any colour she wanted that would look the best. But the mithril one did not seem bad at all. A purple colour piece would probably look the best on her. With that settled, She nodded and looked at the blacksmith once again. "mithril one." she simply said. With her order now made, she place the coins needed to pay for the tail accessories upon the counter and smiled. "thank you! ill be back in a week or sooner to get them!" and with that, Akari started to venture down the road once again. Not knowing where she will land but it seems she was going in the direction of the church.

The goldsmith waved her off as she made way down the road to the church. As she wandered, the hanging drapery and fabric, and even the tents decreased in volume as the church became visible once more, nestled upon the hillside. Though, as she drew closer, it seemed there were rows upon rows of tents on the side of the rode beneath the hillside. White tents, with mailboxes posted just outaide of them. They were far too small to count as a living space. Many of them were closed. Though, Akari would notice that the ones that were open.. Had portals inside of them. Some sort of intricate housing system? Personal tents, mailboxes, and portals? Perhaps it could be something to ask this Vin about, if it was a curiosity to her. The crowds seemed to thin out a considerable amount in this area. And not a single person could be seen around the church. Not a guard in sight. No one. Just two rickety red wooden doors cracked ever so slightly open.

On her walk through the tent city, she could only see disgust everywhere. The tents were all the wrong colours stacked up against each other just making a huge vomit like mess. How could anyone find this beautiful? Its not fancy, its not pretty, not rich. Why does anyone wants to live in filthy tents like this! but soon as she tried to look in to some of the tents, They seem to have magic seeping out of them. She tried to get a better look and notice that there was some kind of portal in all of them when she looked into them. Very bizzare the kitsune though. Maybe every tent is a portal to a other house? world? dimension?? now she got this information and question, she really wanted to ask some one about it. After walking in thoughts for a while, in front of her appeared the church. Maybe some one is in there that could answer her questions. Akari slowly made her way towards the church and peeked inside through the crack between the opened doors. "Come in." Said a feminine voice as Akari peeped her head inside. The floor was cleared. All of the pews long since discarded or burned for firewood. At the front of the church was a podium, empty, and a black piano on the far corner. Much of it seemed like blank, unoccupied space. There were two statues, each of a crow spreading its wings. And off to the right was where Akari heard the voice. For on that side of the room, there was a sofa, and a fireplace. A bright flame crackled from it, as the dull orange glow assisted in lighting the otherwise dark, mostly abandoned building. Whoever owned the voice could not be seen, at least from the entrance Akari had been standing at. Though she could've been certain that the voice came from the sofa. Perhaps this woman was small, or simply laying down, and the furniture obscured her from view. Either way, this did not stop her from continuing on in speaking. "Miss Akari, I presume. I hope the city has not lessened your spirits too much. It grows on you, after awhile. This world is rather occupied. Not many places could house our society without facing scrutiny of those who already live there. That-- and this location specifically is rather close to a source of natural flowing magic. I do apologize for any inconvenience it may have caused." She stopped, as a plume of smoke rose from the couch, presumably that of a cigar's.

Akari's large ears stuck straight up and towards the voice that suddenly called out to her. Her voice seemed to know her quite well and that she was coming here. Was she stalking her? Was she a fan?! Akari started to get very curious on who this might be but soon started to be very cautious. This could all just be a trick to kill her. She did have lots of enemies across the countries. Maybe this letter was send by her so she can trapped the kitsune. Akari slowly made her way towards the couch while keeping her eyes on it just in case she would make a sudden move. She had a lot of skill in stealth with her genes being twisted with a fox. Her steps had no sound to it, her breathing basically non-existent. But she started to speak revealing her presence to the female by speaking. Even though she could see her and sense her near by since she hit the chuch. Akari seemed to move silently enough, though, it seemed it would not matter one way or the other. As the figure came into sight, she would realize there was nothing to worry about. At least in the way of this woman intending physical harm upon Akari. There, cast in the dull orange glow of the hearth sat a tall, slender, and feminine elven figure. Raven hair- similar to the other elven man she had encountered- flowed freely down her shoulders, as the rest was tied neatly into a bun at the top of her head. Lithe, agile musculature, and pastel pink skin, held beneath black and silver finery, her midriff and arms were exposed, as she sat one leg crossed over the other. Silvery glowing eyes, like orbs of concentrated starlight peered back at Akari, as the woman seemed to be smoking from a black cigarillo, the burning end of which held a saturated violet blend of herbs that smelled oddly metallic, when wafted in the air. "Vinevive. Black Market fence, and Keeper of the Crow's Hoard." She offered a smile, as smoke plumed from her nostrils. "But please, call me Vin."

Akari's own dress code was not any better as moth of her body was exposed to the elements. Her shoulders and upper arm were reveal through her blouse, since it only stopped at her neck and had some accessory around her wrist all the way up her elbows. Her skirt was so delicate that a small gust a wind could show what colour her under garments were to any perverts. purple to be exact today. The cigar smell was tickling her nostrils the wrong way. The smoke was causing her to cough here and there when she got closer to Vin. Her powerful fox nose was too delicate for something so strong. Even some INCENSE would make the poor kitsune drop on the floor with its powerful smell. But just a simple cigar, she could handle it.. for now. The elf woman introduced herself to the kitsune which Akari did not have to return the favor since Vin already knew who she was. Akari simply crossed her arms and flicked her tails behind herself. The elf would raise her eyebrows. "Behind all of this..? Oh, no, no, my dear. The Crow is the one who guides our hand. I am sorry he is not here to speak with you directly, but, well, that is simply how we operate. No one has ever seen his face. And those who speak with him in person are bound by pact to secrecy. I am, however, the closest thing you will likely get to speaking to him, if that helps. He is the one who scouted your talents. He is the one who would like to have you in our ranks." Vinevive would snuff her cigarillo out onto the counter before standing at full height. Tall, slender, and feminine, as a long blade appeared at her back as she stood, its sheathe warping into existence. "Rightfully, you likely have questions. Now is your chance to ask them. About-- us. The women in front of the kitsune would almost tower the girl. To be honest, it did not take a long a lot of height to be taller than the 5'3" kitsune. She had to look up at the elf when she stood up. Her arms crossed around her small chest while her face became more serious. Almost annoyed. "yes I do have a lot of questions for you. Where should i start?" she started to say. "what do you want from me? what is your organization that you couldn't just come to me like everyone else? where am I? Where can I take a bath cause my tails are now soaked with humidify and killing my back!" The more Akari would be speaking the more annoyed she sounded and looked. "You are wanted because our master, The Crow, has recognized your talents. Everyone around here has one. Everyone that is one of The Flock, anyways. Any shop keepers, secretaries, stall vendors you may have encountered along the way are part of The Flock. We are marked with tattoos, increasing in quantity the higher rank you become. I, for example, am a third ranking member of The Flock, where there are five possible rankings." She allowed Akari to chew on that for a few moments before continuing on. "What we do is a rather broad category, but mostly, we deal in trade. We have your typical run of the mill black market trades, and we host trades to sell powerful and rare artifacts. Aside from the more tangible trades, we deal in muscle, flesh, and perhaps most importantly of all, information. In summary, The Crow sells power, and luxury, in all of its many forms. We operate in many locations, this being one of several. Are you starting to understand now, Miss Akari?"

Akari listened to what she felt was important. Bits and pieces of what Vin was saying where half way listened by her. When she mention on how their leader has recognized her eyes lid up. Hearing that some one thought of her so highly made her tails flickered behind her like a happy cat. Some information about the actual organization that Vin mention might of gotten through her thick head but most of it didn't if she seen it as unimportant. Stubbornness and negligence was some words that could be described for the kitsune. "So... you want to hire me for your..flock and work for this guy name the crow." Akari was trying to reply to what Vin just told her, even if she forgot some parts since she was not paying all too much attention. "does it pay well?" She mention in the end, This would cause her ears to perk up to listen to the answer. She was really interested in that answer of course. This would be the key part that would make her want to join or leave. @Stellar

"That's the idea. Of course, you are free to refuse. You could always keep your identification pin to become one of our clients instead, were that the case. However-- we do pay well. Enough so that you would never want for luxury and finery again. The price we pay is comfortable. Lavish, even, so long as you prove worthy of it, and loyal to the cause." Vin fell silent as she awaited Akari's reply, idly adjusting her glove.

"it would be pretty stupid to not say no to such an offer." Akari started to answer back. Her hands moved around closer to her body, one arm around her flat stomach to support the other arms as she placed her chin in the palm of her hand to think. The greed started to be apparent in her eyes. "very well. I will take your offer and join your cause." The decision that Akari took was key to her survival. She already had tons of experience in this line of work. But now she can find work with ease with this group and not travel from kingdom to kingdom. Akari nodded once after thinking over and looked up at vin. "yeah i'll join you.. whats next?" She hoped that she did not have to get a tatoo. Tatoos would ruin her perfect body she thought. @Stellar

"Well-- while The Crow may have had an idea of what you are capable of, I do not." She would say, moving to sit back down onto the couch, crossing one leg over the other. "So, let's talk. About what you stand to offer us in your employment. What are your skills? What is the ideal mission for you? After we work this out-- I shall turn you over to Syren, while I file some paperwork, and we shall get you situated on the payroll. After that, we will assign you your first mission."

The kitsune flicked a few of her tails behind her. Vin was asking her to show her abilities. Akari nodded and changed her stands to be more relax in front of vin and sigh softly. "i can not do too much in this building with out destroying its foundation but I will explain what i can do.." Akari was simply mentioning to Vin that what ever her power is, its coming from the ground to the surface. And if she would activate it in the building, it would destroy the grounds of the church they were standing in. With a few more flicks of her tails, some little light orbs not bigger than a snow flake would fall from them. As they landed on the ground, a few dead rats would claw their way through the wood of the floors. These rats looked like they have perished weeks a go with their bones sticking out here and there, flesh pealing off as they walked around. "i can control the dead by using their bodies.. I place a soul in their bodies to reanimate them until they are either completely destroyed or their soul is detached from their bodies. It can be anything thats dead and soulless." This was all the information Akari was going to give to her, for free. @Stellar

The woman listened silent and attentively as Akari continued, seeming to have no opinion of her abilities either here nor there. As the rats appeared she glanced down to them, and then back towards Akari, who finished her explanation. "Necromancy." Vin nodded, before continuing. "So-- what exactly is it that you would like to do? Where would you be comfortable? As it stands it seems as though you are leaning towards something more along the lines of 'security' or 'muscle'. Somewhere your abilities could be used to enforce our rules, protect our people, or strike out when needed. Unless there is more you would like to tell me, or show me, of course."

The kitsune watched as the elf seem to be unimpressed with her powers and how strong she actually is. Just security and muscle?! she can do more than just create degenerate zombies that does not have a brain.. If only she was outside so she can bring out her loyal guardians. The one that would cause problem against the strongest fighters out there. "I can do more than just...security.. I can assassinate and leave the wrong body or no body.. Help make people go missing, Gather information through stealth units such as the rats.. deal with threats...Im sure theres other things that I could do that I have not been hired to do.." Akari crossed her arms with a pout look on her face. Obviously her ego was hurt. @Stellar

"This I can work with." She smiled. "I will make note of your abilities so that your skillset will be passed around the vine, and within tomorrow or the night after, we shall have your first official mission. Though- as I said, in the meantime, I believe I shall pass you over to Syren, to get you acquainted with the grounds, its people, their behaviors, what you can expect. You get it. While you wait for him, you are more than welcome to look around. If you are interested in a place to stay, our ethereal merchant sells pocket dimensions.. I am sure you've seen the tented portals posted just outside the church. The interiors are far more pleasant than you might think." She would stretch for a moment or two. "Any further questions? I believe that's all on my end."

Akari was sort of relieved that Vin said she could work with her abilites. Of course the kitsune did not actually show her skills. but her ability and magic is quite the creative one and can be used for many purposes. All she cared was to be able to do as many jobs as she needed to make the serious coin. Coins that can be spend on all sorts of things. Akari listened to what Vin mention about the pocket dimensions. "do they take long? cause i can sure get some rest now after traveling for so long..." She also really wanted to bathe to get her body cleaned up beofre she had to meet some one else. Her image was everything to her. @Stellar

"You would have to speak with him, as I am sure it depends. I will send Syren for you. You should have enough time to inquire meanwhile, though-- unless you have gold on hand now, perhaps you'd like to wait. They can be rather costly if you have lavish tastes." She offered a half shrug, as she started to make her way from the church, turning her head over her shoulder. "Was nice meeting you, Miss Akari. I am sure we shall be working together again soon enough. Syren will find you soon." And with that, she left. Leaving Akari in the shoddy dim church, to do as she pleased.

Akari did not have time to say goodbye to the female elf before she left. Before she could even react, she was gone. She was now all alone in the run down church with the rats still scurrying the ground for a few more moments before the kitsune called the souls back to her tails. There was now just dead half decompose rats on the ground around her. Akari noticed a broken mirror against the floor that was aiming at her body. The cracks seemed to be going through her in the reflection. Her tails started to slow down their dance to almost a halt as her loneliness became more and more apparent to her. She hated being alone. Always needed some one to have around her so she could feed off their emotions. She was quite the clingy person. She wondered when the next person from the flock would come to her. Would it be here? should she leave and then they will find her? Akari did not have enough gold on her to buy or rent one of the dimensions for sure. She picked up her small pouch at her belt and counted the visible coins in it. She probably had enough to afford a few nights at an inn if they had any around here. but there was none that she noticed before. With a sigh escaping her lips, Akari slowly went to the couch were Vinevive was before and sat in it. contemplating her next move. @Stellar

A silence followed as Vinevive departed. The loneliness encroaching on Akari once more, as she was left in the dark, abandoned church, the fire in the fireplace crackled, and kept her warm at the very least, whilst she waited for this Syren to arrive, and worked out her next moves. Around fifteen or twenty minutes came to pass, before a figure could be heard walking through the church door. Heavy foot-steps, and creaking wood tiles announcing a rather large figure. If Akari was keen enough to sit up and look, she would've seen a familiar face from her endeavors earlier. The dark-skinned elven man, of raven hair. His name now known to her. Syren. His voice rang just as deep as it had before. "You don't move around much, it seems." He stated idly, regardless of not if he could see her. The way he sniffed at the air indicated that-- perhaps he did not need to.

Akari sat silently on the couch. It seemed like hours to the girl but it was only a little over fifteen minutes she was alone. It just felt long for her since she did not like being alone. Maybe she could of asked Vin to stay with her before her next mentor was suppose to show up? Would she stayed with her then. Akari pondered that for a long time while stroking one of her tails. The kitsune heard and smelled a newcomer coming near the church before they even set foot in it. Her high sense were really sharp like this since her genes were spliced with a fox. her back was turned towards the dark figure until he spoke. It was an odd thing to say to some one you never met but for some reason, his scent was familiar... Her head turned towards Syren and immediately recognize the person who helped her in her direction towards the cabin. "how long have you been following me?" she asked him still sitting at the couch.

The dark-skinned elf lofted a brow at her question. "Follow you..? You seem to have the wrong idea of me." He stepped further into the church as heavy footfalls carried his form. A strapping man with a bare chest, and leathers and furs covering his form below the waist. "I am Syren. Warden of our underground passageways. I am of the flock, and as I understand, one of your new mentors." He let his words linger as he stood there, allowing Akari to take them in as she pleased.

The kitsune got a little confused at Syen's reaction when she asked if he was following her. This was not the first time they met. Maybe it was simply a coincidence the first time after all. Leaving at aside, Akari slowly stood up and faced the new elf with her hands held together in front of her stomach and bowed. "nice to meet you Syren... I'm Akari, new recruit of the flock." After her bow, she placed her hands behind her back just above the base of her tails. Her tails were dancing behind her going in a different direction from the other one. "I am ready when ever uhh...Master Syren?" she ask with a slight tilt of her head to the side not knowing what kind of title she needed to use for him.

Syren lifted a hand, as a deep chuckle rumbled in his chest, the idea of her calling him master tickled him. "There will be no need for such titles. Syren will do. Or Groundskeeper. Speaking of. I will acquaint you with the grounds, we shall carry out a quick patrol, I shall pay you, and then you are free to retire for the evening. The ethereal in town sells pocket dimensions. He also hosts several for those in need of temporary or private accomodations. If you are tired afterwards, which I have a strong inclination you will be. It would be best to seek him out." He would turn, ducking through the doorway before looking over his shoulder. "That said. Are you prepared?"

Akari started to become slightly red in the face while her cheeks ballooned up a bit from Syren laughing. the laugh might not of been meant to be at her but she took it alike and started to pout. She was only trying to be formal. Her tails started to bat wildly behind her as he started to speak. the patrol caught her slightly off guard. Is she going to have a mission now? with him? was it a test? even if this was just a practice run for her. She will show this groundskeeper guy that she would be a great asset to the flock. She shook her head and slapped her cheeks twice each before looking back at him. With a nod, she proclaim determinably with a "yes" and quickly came towards his side. It was then she saw how much in sheer volume he towered her small frame as she looked up at him. @Stellar

He did not seem to mind, or acknowledge her observation of him as she fell in. As he turned his back, she could see his tattoos on display. Three crows along his left shoulder blade, increasing in size as they drew closer towards his abdomen. Syren began walking down the church path, and back towards the town. "So. Considering there is no official map of the grounds, I shall tell you the layout instead. Starting from the church, you have the residential district." He gestured towards the array of tents off to their left, with the various mailboxes and such. In addition, it seemed there were also a few tents set up with empty tables, presumably for meetings, and the like. "This is where all of our locals reside." He then pointed down the path ahead, where Akari had come from. There was a fork in the road that led to the district over, off to the left. "Straight ahead is our market district. You will find anything from housing accommodations, smiths, leatherworkers, alchemists, and the like. Along with a few freelance escorts and their private services." @OneEye

as the pair left the church to be outside, Akari notice indeed the large tattoos that Syren had across his chest and back. She knew that it was for the group he represent but was still surprised from its mass. Would she actually have to get something similar if she joined? Akari wondered if it would look good on her. She rather have her body untouched with ink as long as possible. She believed that her body looked better that way. Perfect smooth skin with not even a single scar across it anywhere. She was rather proud her body. The kitsune followed the large elf around the city as he started to explain the confusing layout to her. She was going to forget it right away since it seemed so inconvenient on how the layout was made for the city. The only way she would be able to remember her ways for now would be by smell. If she could pin point specific smells from each region, she could possibly travel between the regions. Akari's ears flickered as the thought of escort. "escorts? like... bodyguard escort or....?" asked akari with a hint of possible interest with the answer. @Stellar
Avatar
Syren lofted a brow as he glanced over her shoulder at her. "I moreso was referring to whores and harlots who make their living by sleeping with the lonely and desperate.. However-- there are bodyguards and mercenaries for hire as well.." He nodded, before turning his head forward once more, pointing to the left fork in the road which led down another path of its own, with the larger tents, and people entering and exiting them. "Down that path resides our larger hubs for trading, and business. Namely auctions, and freelance contracts where members of The Flock may be conscripted and hired by our clientele. The tents each host a network of portals inside, leading to other locations. I shall let you explore them on your own time." After he spoke about the other part of town, he began to move down the path, taking the left turn at the fork in the road, and heading straight. Past the two locations he'd pointed out previously, and towards what looked like a cave entrance at the top of a hill, where the paved stone ran out, and all that remained was a dirt path.

What Syren said about the escort was what Akari expected. there was actual whores and street workers here to. she through on how she could potentially make a quick buck fast this way if she needed money to buy a dimension to reside, and maybe a bit more.. Akari was greedy, very greedy. And men are very easy to cheat and persuade to give her all their money. She could probably make a fortune by batting her eyes and a swish of her tails with out actually sleeping with them. She was a virgin and untouched after all. Akari followed Syren around the city of tents slightly behind him. She was a tad slower than him so she could look around and pick up any scent that she could recognize later if she would desire to return. She did not talk much back when he explained to her about the history of the place but she tried to some what pay attention. But what made her stop in her tracks was the cave entrance that Syren was leading her towards to. It looked really odd to her and caused her to be more careful and untrusty of Syren. "where is this..?" she asked.

The scents of the city were varied enough to pick up on, even if they weren't the most pleasant. The church, which they had come from smelled of char, and dust, and mildew. While the tents outside smelled of magic, wet canvas, and faintly of baked goods. The first path which Syren pointed out smelled much like perfume, cheap cologne, with the underlying scent of metal, magic, spices, and blood. While the last direction he showed her smelled a lot like fresh leather, such as that found on suitcases. Sweat, magic, mud, and stale blood. Now, with the two of them heading towards the cave, Syren turned his head while they walked. "This is the underground network of tunnels and caves leading to a few of our other locations. I am its master, and the only one who can navigate its many paths. It would be best to avoid it when not in my presence."

the kitsune looked at Syren as he started to explain where they are going. Her face became a bit pouty as he started to tell her she could not navigate through this area by herself. She of course would be perfectly able if she wanted to. With her nose and ears, she could go anywhere she needed. She crossed her arms over her small chest and batted a few of her tails around in annoyance. She muttered to herself, her mutters were barely a whisper. "i could probably could get around in there if i wanted to.." she kept up with Syren but still stayed a bit behind him. @Stellar

Without realizing she said much, he continued onwards into the cave. And for awhile, it seemed pretty standard, if not beautiful in its own way. Stone deposits along the floor and walls, as the cave went at a steady downward incline with natural stone steps for the two to follow. Stalagmites and stalactites starting to be seen the further down they moved, with residual water dripping from the ceiling and forming small puddles. Once they descended, the cave led relatively straight with a few ups and downs along the way. Glittering gems started to appear embedded in the cave walls. And ominously glowing purple mushrooms, about half the size of a standard person, nestling in bunches of cave moss. "The cave of course does not span across the current world. But moreover, it is our connection to different planes of existence. The Dream. The Feywilds. The Elemental Planes, Azeroth, and The Underdark, to name a few."

Akari followed Syren still through the caves. Her feet started to really hurt her from all of the walking she had done the previous days. Now she was in this humid cave system that is seriously ruining her fur on her tails! Every little drop of the natural water hitting her tails was driving her closer and closer to her inducing rage. Her fur is way to valuable to be damped with this air and the unfiltered/disgusting water that was dripping from the rocks. She tried to wrap herself in her tails to at least protect her fur. Syren kept on explaining more and more about the cave system. But Akari was having almost none of it. One single drop of water it on her fox ear and she lost it. The kitsune let out a screech of anger and quickly moved passed Syren to be in front of him and stopped facing. "CAN WE PLEASE FINISH THIS TOUR?! ITS GOING TO TAKE HOURS TO GET MY FUR AS PRISTINE AS IT WAS" @Stellar
Avatar
Syren halted in his tracks as Akari moved around in front of him, his towering figure frozen before her as he looked upon her with.. Nothing short of true neutrality. He felt nothing at all, neither this way or the other way about her words, and in a way, that perhaps also implied that he was not intimidated by her, either. Regardless, he awaited for her to finish, before speaking. "Are you certain you are not still lost? It was my understanding you were here to earn your keep. A generous one at that. Should you have been paying attention, you would know that the tour concluded the moment we stepped into this cave, and that you are now on your first assignment while Vinevive files your skills with Nix, and consults our higher-ups about your first official task." He would lean down, as piercing amber eyes regarded her steadily. "So tell me.. Are you here to earn what you work for? Or were you expecting a handout?"

The kitsune did not stand down or moved at all when Syren got closer to her. The elf did not seem to be threaten by her demeanor. Same with her. Akari stood her ground looking dead in his eyes with out blinking. A low snarl came out of her throat at what he said to her. Of course she was not looking for a handout or free money from this guy. And how could she of known that this was not part of the tour and now their patrol job. With out a word, she slowly moved again behind him and stood there but kept giving him the stink eye. Her first impression of Syren was not the greatest, but it seems like he would not care one bit about her opinion on that. @Stellar
Avatar
Syren raised to his full height once more, with a smile crossing his lips. "Excellent. I expect we'll be paying more attention to what others are saying to them from here on, as to avoid further confusion." Without a further word, he carried on, as the cave started to wind and turn, twisting in tight downward spirals and sharp inclines, as fungus began to appear not only on the floor of the cave, but the walls, and ceiling as well. Several paths began to appear from the one they were currently set on, but theirs seemed rather straightforward. One thing was for certain, the variety of strange smells which constantly shifted made it hard to really pinpoint anything. It was like a whirlpool to the senses, a flurry of different things entering the nose, just to be washed away like the tides. Magic perhaps?

Akari laid silent behind Syren as he continued with the tour/patrol of the cave. The way he was condescending with her was making her blood boil even more. But she retracted herself on doing anything else to ruin her chance of getting in the flock. Attacking some one from the group might destroy her chance on making any cash from them. Her tails were aggressively batting behind her as she walked. It felt like she has been walking for almost an hour with this guy through the caves. Is he going to let her leave after the patrol is done? its not like she will be able to remember any of this with all the twist and unfamiliar scents that she cant put a place and time for them. This is not a job she will be able to do alone for sure. @Stellar
Avatar
Syren fell silent thereafter. Condescending or not, he said what he felt needed to be said and left it at that. But, that didn't make the situation any less awkward. From his perspective, she was agitated, and best not to prod. And so, unless she had anything to add, silence ensued. The looming rumbles of the caves, the dripping water from different areas of the ceiling. But-- Akari would notice, that as they went deeper, following the straight path they were on, the water started to drip upwards, as fungus and moss from the cave seemed to be growing on the ceiling. It seemed almost like gravity had reversed on them, except physically, they were fine. Their hair did not seem affected by this change. The downward spiral they were on had evened out, and at the end of the tunnel, was a dim purple light.

The kitsune sat in her own sorrow as they kept on walking in the caves. She was really wishing she had taken a different job to do then this. There was no action, nothing to peak her curiosity, just damped temperature and gross water hitting her fur. This was not a place for a kitsune at all. She did realize something odd now with the caves around her. She could feel the magic changing and the environment around them. She wanted to ask Syren about it but she was too proud to start their conversation after their little argument they had previously. If it was important enough for her to know. She was sure that Syren would say something about it. @Stellar

As they drew closer and closer to the opening, on the other side awaited them something different completely. Unlike the foggy, muddy, humid, and hot mess of the swamp that they had just come from, a pleasant surprise awaited in its stead. Large canopies of trees blotted out the majority of the sky, with an eternal twilight peaking its rays through small openings in the blue, green, purple, and red leaves. Patches of violet moss sat atop wide, flat stones, with fluorescent toadstools sprouting in bundles. Large butterflies fluttered lazily through the air with wings which sparkled, and a strange, squirrel-like creature darted across an opening and up one of the nearby trees, into an opening in its bark. It was an entirely new world. A different plane, unlike that which they had come from, and Syren halted just outside of its entrance. "If you are tired, we should rest now, while you still can. It's clear Ravnica was draining your spirit. I welcome you instead to the Faewild." And with that, he moved off towards one of the mossy-laden stones, sitting atop one, cross-legged.
