Static. Click. Static. Click. Static. Click. “More fucking static.” Pryor said angrily, hitting her steering wheel with bloodied hands. Turning off the radio with an irritated groan, Pryor continued to drive down the road. The further she got from the city, the less monsters she saw surrounding the road… until there was none. It brought her a sense of… ease. But she didn’t let herself get too comfortable. She had to be on guard. Her eyes glanced down to her speedometer, but the blood that caked her knuckles caught her attention. None of the blood was hers. Blood splatter from her attempts at using an axe to defend herself. And then, as if it was waiting for the right moment to scare Pryor, her car beeped furiously at her. “What? No, no no no!” Pryor said, pressing on the gas as he car slowed to a stop just passed an acreage. “Why aren’t you turning on?” Pryor pleaded with the inanimate object. Stepping out of the car, Pryor slammed her car door. “Fuck!” She yelled, her blonde hair been blown into her face by the small gust of wind. “No CEDA evacuation… no radio… and now no fucking car.” She kicked the tire hard, knowing there was no chance she could fix it herself. Pryor leaned against the hood of her car, face buried in her hands as she stifled a sob. She was born and raised in the city, she barely knew how to change the tire on her cars. How would she survive in a fucking apocalypse? Wiping a few stray tears away, the woman glanced around, staring at the house. Apprehensively, Pryor crossed the highway and walked towards the house, her eyes fixated on the window to see if anyone- or anything- was inside.

It wasn't a normal time on the farm for Jay, he couldn't find a reason to leave it today. It had been a couple of days since the internet and televisions went out, and the phones were not long after that, but the big cities were reporting terrible stuff. Dead bodies reanimating, zombies, just something of unimaginable horror, but he had not seen anything of the sort here. Fortunately, the running spring and well waters gave them running water, a wind turbine and solar panels provided lights, but nothing else seemed to work. He was fine though... Life was good without all that stuff. He had been washing his hands in the sink when he saw the car come to a stop on the road outside of his farm. A few people had stopped along the road and just kept walking and not even came close to the farm, so he was shocked to see that this person was actually looking his direction and walking that way instead of panicking. He smiled as he looked down at a dog beside of him. A blue heeler who was great with the herding of animals around the farm, "Looks like we go some friends, Bluey..." He would walk outside on the porch as Bluey would finally see the figure and being to growl, but Jay would stop him, "Cut that out, they might need help." Bluey would sit up, but stay alert as Jay stood on the front porch of the house as he waited to see what the intent of this person was.

Pryor had cleared the highway, apprehensively approaching the house when she saw the door open. The woman stopped in her tracks, prepared to run back to her broken down car in a futile attempt at saving herself. But she didn’t. Instead, she saw a person. A real live person, and his dog, on the porch of the house. She breathed a sigh of relief, almost ready to cry tears of joy, but she wasn’t in the clear yet. She was bloodied, albeit not her own blood, stained clothes, her hair was matted. She could very well look like a monster. Pryor threw her hands up in the air, showing she didn’t have weapons. “I’m unarmed, I’m not bitten. I’m safe.” She yelled out, still standing just along the property line. “M-my car broke down.” She stuttered. “I just… I need some help. Please.”

As she threw up her hands and began to move forward, he would smile at her, "It's okay, I believe you," he said with a smile, "Bitten, shew... Nasty things in that city I must say. Are you okay though? Not like bitten or anything, like mentally? What do you need help with?" He smiled as he stepped off the steps listening to her words, Bluey staying very close to him as he approached her and reached out his hand, "I don't mind the blood," he said with a smile, "My name is Jay, well James Starnes, but people call me Jay. This is... was... my families farm. I have been here since everything kinda went to shit. I will be more than glad to help you the best I can."

Pryor, once again, almost started crying at the warm welcome she was receiving. She reached her hand out, gripping his hand as she shook it. “Thank you.. so much.” The blonde woman said, breathlessly. Now within the confines of the property, Pryor felt like she could breathe again. She didn’t have to worry about how she was going to survive now. At least, not at this exact moment. It seemed that the acreage outside of the city was free from the blood-hungry monsters that terrorized her and so many others. “I’m… I don’t know.” Pryor spoke. She thought back to just a few days earlier. Sitting in her apartment, her fiancé by her side. It seemed so… normal. They had barricaded themselves in doors, making small talk amongst each other. But the barrier didn’t hold for long, evident by the fact she was alone now. She shook her head, looking back up at Jay. “I’m Pryor. Thank you, again. All the CEDA evac stations have been destroyed by those things.” She explained, running a hand through her dirty hair.

"You are very welcome, darlin'," he said with a smile as she shook her hand, leading her towards the building as she continued to talk, introducing herself and letting him know what happened in the city that was not too far from her, "Damn shame is what that is. Can't trust that government to set anything up right. Here on the farm, we have had a few stragglers from the city, but it seems that most of it is staying in the city for right now. But, I am sure a storm is a brewing once all the noise and shit dies down in town." He would lead her into the house, through a door that lead to a kitchen area. Looks like her car had broken down outside the back of the house that lead to the kitchen. He smiled at her as he turned the taps on, "Cold is on the right, and hot is on the left," he said with a smile, "We should be good on electricity, so use as much as you would like, we even have a shower upstairs if you would rather use that. Do you need food or water? You mentioned help with something?"

Pryor followed him closely, listening to him speak. She studied the decor and architecture of the house as she walked, admiring it. It was much nicer than her place in the city. Almost immediately, Pryor found herself in front of the sink, washing away the dried blood on her hands. The blood spatters on her face, the dirt that latched itself to her skin. How did she become such a mess? “A shower would be… amazing.” Pryor said with a small chuckle. “I just, I don’t know what happened to my car. It was working perfectly just a few days ago.” Pryor looked out the window, a sense of ease taking over her as she looked at an empty area. No monsters, no death. Just calm, a breeze blowing slightly. It was beautiful.

Once she said that she would enjoy a shower, he smiled at her, "I tell you what, take you a walk up those stairs and just keep going forward. The bathroom is the door in the middle of the hall. Take your time, me and Blue will rush out to the four lane and getcha car and bring it back here so we can look at it. Keys still in it?" He smiled at the girl after she answered, heading to the door. He would take a quick glance around the porch, then the farm as he has become accustomed to doing since he saw his first living dead. Seeing nothing, he would begin the somewhat lengthy track to the barn of the building. Once he reached the barn, he would slowly climb up on a tractor, looking at the equipment on it seeing the chains that he needed. He would roar the tractor to life, riding it across the road that passes around the farm. Once he arrives to the car, he would make quick work of moving cars out of the way before he would begin to chain the car up, looking and seeing no living dead for the distance of the road. Once chained, he would slowly begin the task of pulling the car to the side of house where his truck was parked. It almost looked out of place next to his beat up truck on the side of the house, but he would leave the car there for now before walking back into the house.

“Yeah, the keys are still in the ignition.” Pryor said with a smile, immensely thankful for the help. Pryor wandered upstairs, taking her time as she felt exhausted. Eventually, she did find the bathroom, closing the door behind her before stripping out of her clothes. The taps creaked as she turned them, the water beginning to rush out of the shower head. The hot water felt amazing on her body. Her sore muscles felt respite from the pain beneath the stream. Blood and dirt washed off her body. It took a bit of extra effort for the real caked on parts, such as her hands and face. It didn’t take long for her body to become clean, but Pryor spent a little extra longer in her hair, wanting to spend as long as she could under the warm water. It ended up being a 35 minute shower before Pryor finally left. Her mind was racing still with thoughts, memories of hordes still fresh in her mind. She tried her darnedest to move past it, wanting to just… relax. She wrapped a towel around her body, wicking away the water from her damp skin. And it was then that Pryor realized… she didn’t have a clean pair of clothes. She had a duffel bag in the trunk of her car, knowing she had packed one when the first signs of zombies had started showing up. She kept it in the trunk, alongside her fiancés bag, just in case they ever had to flee. And Pryor did indeed flee. The door creaked open slowly, Pryor sticking her head out into the hallway. “Uh, Jay?” Pryor called out. “I forgot to grab my bag, can you get the red duffel bag from the trunk of my car?” She asked, hoping he would hear her.

As Jay would find himself inside the door of the house, he would hear her voice peak out amongst the quietness of the house and asking him to go and grab the bag out of the trunk of the car, "No worries, I can do that." He would turn and begin back out of the house, leaving Blue behind in the house as he would make his way to the trunk of the car before realizing, he had to have the keys to get into it. He would sigh as he moved to the driver side door looking for a release on the truck before finding it on the dash board, "Ah, there you are..." Hitting the button, the trunk would come loose, but he would hear footsteps behind him, "Oh, it is okay Ms. Pryor, I got it..." But, before he could finish his sentence, he turned to see that this definitely wasn't Pryor, it was a living dead creature that was ambling towards him. He had a couple of feet between the two of them, but it didn't stop it from lunging at him as he turned. He would quickly step his way to the side as it landed on the car, in the door frame. Panicking, he would slam the car door repeatedly on the zombie's head, getting bits of flesh and brains flying through the driver side floorboard. "Well, fuck, that is gonna be a bitch to clean up..."
