It was strange. Evelyn felt so comforted by his words, that when he came to sit beside her, she felt better. His promise to keep her safe didn’t seem empty. It felt genuine. A small smile formed on her lips and she nodded slowly. “Thank you again, Your Grace. I am sorry I am causing you trouble.” She said quietly.
Evelyn felt sleep crawling up her body, and she laid back down on her side. As he was sitting beside her, her hands were close to his. Evelyn shut her eyes, and sleep soon ensnared her. While she slept, her hand moved subtly towards his, wanting the security. She hummed softly, finally at peace in her slumber.
In the morning, Evelyn woke, and did not see the man at her bedside. She got out of bed and went to find the Brownies. One was stationed outside her door, and it let out a squeak of acknowledgement before it grabbed Evelyn’s hand and pulled her towards the bathroom. Evelyn even found that the Brownie wasn’t so creepy in the light.
Stepping into the bathroom, Evelyn saw a large bathtub, a vanity mirror, and a large window that overlooked the forest. The brownie gestured to the bath, squeaked, and then left, shutting her inside the room. Evelyn stripped down to nothing and then she stepped into the bath. She hummed softly, the warm water soothing her body. She felt cold and achy from her life at the village, and hot water was a rare luxury. Especially a full body bath full of it. Evelyn began to scrub herself down, removing all the dirt and grime from her body.
When Evelyn was finally cleaned, she got out of the bath, dried her hair, and got dressed. She tied her hair back in a long braid, and then she walked to the east hall where the man had instructed her to go.
Entering the east hall, she saw the large table filled with several dishes, all breakfast foods. Pastries, meats, vegetables, fruits, everything she could ever dream, and there, at the head of the table, was the man. Evelyn went to his side and curtsied. “Good morning, Your Grace. Did you sleep well?”
