When Amelio left she stood there under the grove of trees with her notebook clutched in one hand watching him disappear into the distance without another word, only a promise that they’d meet again. To her, he was a complete mystery and left her feeling safe yet unsettled. She didn’t want him to leave. Not yet. Not after everything they'd just been through. How was she going to explain all of this to her family? The demon, the strange man she was not supposed to speak to, and the ability to scare away monsters just by telling them off. Not to mention everything she'd been told growing up was a lie. The hidden world around her was very real and illuminated by Amelio. Nothing would ever be the same. She made her way home. Approaching a mansion with high ceilings and too many rooms to count. A place filled with paintings of fairy tales and secrets. She closed the front door behind her and tip-toed through the house as quietly as possible. When she entered the library her feet stopped at the door. There was a woman sitting at a table reading a book. She had a pinched nose and glasses pushed up to the bridge. Her eyes were bright green and focused on the pages, scanning back and forth. She had grey hair swept into a bun on the top of her head and wore a purple dress. “You’re home late,” the woman said and placed the book on the table. “I met someone today…… ” Cherry confessed. “Who?” “Amelio Demethius.” There was a sickening silence in the air, and Cherry knew her world was about to be turned upside down.

The blue energy began to circulate into the form of a human being. Amelio slowly stepped out of the energy, his eyes closed and fists closed. He huffed and soon exhaled. "Fuck that always gives me the chills." He said softly. "Lord Demethius," a man in a black suit with several gold accents spoke. His hair was curly and styled shortly. His arms were crossed and his posture straight. His face held a stern look, with a broad nose. A sleek pair of glasses, similar to Amelio's, sat neatly on the top of his bridge. "Mr. Dorian... What do you want?" Amelio said with a slight hint of malice. "I'm not in th-" Dorian spoke, "Your father is asking me to check up on you... Frankly I find it mundane but its his choice." Amelio glared at Dorian. His eyes narrowing, and now giving a look over his glasses. "Fine then." Stepping into a black BMW, the two made their way back to Amelio's home. A large Victorian styled manor stood ominously as Amelio and Dorian approached. Sat in its large garden was a marble fountain, at its center was the figure of Ayād Demethius; the family's progenitor. Both Dorian and Amelio stepped out of the BMW and walked into the manor. Dorian stood by the door as Amelio left to his father's study. The room was massive with several large bookshelves and a round oak table. Sat at the far end of the table in a large chair was Amelio's father. The man was of a large stocky build. His skin a deep caramel color. His eyes looked tired and showed his serious demeanor, much like his son's. His nose was identical to Amelio's and his lips just slightly larger, a small scar running down the bottom right towards his chin. On both of his hands, were two rings, both a black tungsten color with gold accents. Large emeralds sat as the centerpieces. Dressed in a simple black long sleeve shirt and similarly colored pants, Amelio's father spoke. "I expected you back before this afternoon. You know I require your assistance son."

“Demethius…..” the older woman said in disbelief, then scoffed. Cherry winced not because the woman, who was her mother, had a foul temper but because of the way she said the man’s name. So cold and unforgiving. The conversation wasn’t going to go her way. She had a sliver of hope tucked away in her pocket but those good intentions suddenly turned to ash the moment she saw the look on her mother’s face. “Listen, you’ve been lying to me,” Cherry started, trying to explain herself, stand her ground, but the older woman wouldn’t hear any of it. “We did what we needed to do in order to protect you!” and the woman slammed her book onto the table. She was furious. “Tell me right now you will never see him again. Tell me you will never see anyone from that wicked family ever again.” A slow breath was drawn through Cherry’s nostrils. She wanted to fight. She wanted to curse her mother. Tell her she could go screw herself but that wasn’t her character. Instead, she placed her notebook on the table to point at one of her drawings, a new one that resembled the demon she encounter only hours ago. “They’re real. They do exist, and you can’t pretend that they don’t. I know the truth. And whatever feud that’s lasted centuries between our two families needs to end. I’m not going to be part of a war that clearly has nothing to do with me or Amelio-”
20:48
Crap. When Cherry said Amelio’s name she knew she’d screwed up. She grabbed her notebook and took a step backward, retreating from her mother who had stood up with a glare aimed in her direction. The freckles on Cherry’s nose were all but gone, hidden under a blanket of blush that covered her skin. “Amelio. I see. If that’s the way you want to play we’ll lock you up. We’ll make sure you never see this Amelio ever aga-” the woman shrieked, “-don’t you run away from me! Get back here!” But Cherry was running down the hallway as fast as she could. She threw the front door open and ran down the steps. She wouldn’t stop running. Not until she could find somewhere to plan her next move.

"Father I-..." Amelio's voice slowly trailed off. He knew excuses were impossible with his father. "You represent my legacy, Amelio. The stalwart image of House Demethius lies in you, just as it does me and your grandfather, and his father before him." The man slowly rose from his chair. The air became ominous within the study. Amelio's father's Presence was strong, proof of the strong will he possessed. He slowly took a step towards his son. "Amelio. Where have you been?" He said slowly and with a stern voice. "A girl from House Rose." Amelio's deep voice still held a hint of fear. "I felt her... For some time now whenever we have our dealings in the city. It's as if she's..." He slowly looked up and at his father. His arms crossed as his look was now inquisitive. "She's different. She has power." "Then she's a threat." "How're so certain?" "Anyone from House Rose is a threat, my son. This is law." "Father, maybe we shouldn't see it th-" "Nonsense! I see she may have weaved her thorns into you." The man said. His lips began to slowly curl and creep into a wicked smile. "My son... This will be a test." Amelio's eyes widened as he knew that look. That evil look in his father's eyes when it came to magic. "Father please... Not again." He slowly closed his fists. "I won't, I refuse." "You think you have such a right as my son?" Amelio's father spoke with a scoff. "After everything I've done, those gifts are just as much mine as they are yours." "You will prove your worth as my heir. Come next week, I will be dealing with Huerta International. Its a business deeply interconnected with several travel organizations." His father slowly turned. "You will go and meet with their President, Robert Huerta. I'm sending Dorian with you and be sure... To watch out for any... Unsavory thorns."

The wind was cold and sharp on that dreadful day. It burned her soft cheeks as she continued to run on the paved sidewalks. People looked at her strangely, they wondered what was wrong with her. There was something off about that girl they said. But Cherry didn’t care. She didn’t have time to worry about what others thought. Danger followed her every footstep. She looked over her shoulder halfway expecting her mother to be standing there, shaking her fist and screaming at her. It wasn’t until she stopped behind an abandoned alleyway that she could catch her breath. Her back slid down the rough brick wall scrapping herself in the process. She was too defeated to give a damn. Why did she have to be stuck in the middle of a war she knew nearly nothing about? Cherry placed her notebook in her lap and started to draw. She wanted to remember the face of the demon that came to her, the one that she made run away. She had a concept of what the creature looked like but this time she spent a couple of hours putting lots of details into the monster. When she was finished the sun had started to set. Her blue eyes reflected the orange light fading behind the horizon. “Amelio…..” she spoke quietly into the dimming light. But instead of her new friend appearing, something else crept from the shadows of the alleyway. Cherry got to her feet and started to back away but a voice came to her.
09:02
“Don’t run, child,” said a low voice in her mind. Cherry froze in her tracks. She stared directly at the strange entity coming closer to her. Her heart beat with fear. It was six feet tall and covered in black scales. Their eyes were a bright yellow with sharp fangs poking out from the corner of their mouth. They had wings the size of a car stretched out on each side and the texture looked like black leather. “I have something you want,” the creature said with a smile, extending their clawed hand in her direction. “T-There’s nothing you can offer me that I’ll want,” Cherry stumbled backward with a stutter. She was going to have to run. Or fight. She needed to make a choice.

Amelio sat in one of his several rooms within the manor. The walls were a simple cream color with dark oak pieces of furniture lining its walls. Two large windows faced towards the front of the home, giving a large view to the statue outside. The sun was setting and its soft orange glow cast shadows inside the room. Amelio sat in a simple swivel chair, a pen twirling between his fingers. The chair looked out of place inside the antiquated decor. A small touch of modernity in an old world. Next to him was a desk, average in size and shape. Strewn across the desk were several pieces of paper. A mix of writings, business letters, and more. Now in deep contemplation, Amelio's eyes were focused on the space in front of him. With no particular object in mind, his mind was adrift. 'Prove my worth as his heir?! He thinks I'm weak...' Amelio blinked unconsciously, 'Cherry...' A loud knock on the door startled him. "Y-yes!" Amelio said as he quickly composed himself. "Lord Demethius. Your father is departing." A small voice said from behind the door, it was that of a woman. A maid, in fact. "Thank you, Eliza." Amelio said while crossing his arms. "Good riddance." Amelio stood up and walked towards the window. He watched carefully as both Dorian and his father departed inside an SUV. His posture soon straightened as he heard Cherry's voice. "How can I hear you...?" He muttered.

The demon creature thing was watching her every move like a bored hawk and she shoved a big swallow down her throat to stop the fear that was bubbling inside her tummy. This was freaking awful! If she ran she knew this creepy thing would chase her. But! If she took their hand who knew what sort of hell they’d drag her into. Nothing about the eyes of this monster said ‘trust me, I’m super nice and we’d get along great!’ Cherry did the only thing she could do. She used her pencil as a weapon sticking the pointy end at the ominous creature to keep them away from her. “Keep away from me!” Cherry growled. Maybe if she could channel her courage she could make this demon run away from her like the last one. “I’ll poke you in places you didn’t think were possible!” Pure laughter filled the air. The creature howled with joy as they took their hand back, stroking the length of a pointed chin as they considered their next move. “You think you’re safe, child?” They were toying with her and the pencil seemed like a stupid idea as time went on. The end wasn’t even sharp! “I….. yes! Yes I do. You’re gonna leave me alone. Leave now! Get out of here!!” “No.”
11:45
“What do you want from me?” Cherry sighed with defeat on her lips. She was giving in to the idea there was no way out of this. “I want you to take my hand,” the creature repeated and extended their claw-like hand out to her again in an offering, “I want you to see what I see.” Just when Cherry started to reach out for the demon she heard Amelio’s voice in her head. She immediately froze and took a step backward. Amelio, please help me! Cherry was pretty sure she was going crazy. Hearing voices in your head was not a good thing. On any other day this would have been a very bad sign, but she needed his help, and prayed this was real, hoping he could hear her.

Amelio's eyes widened as he continued to hear her voice. 'H-how?' He thought. Suddenly he shook his head. The why's and how's of the situation didn't matter. Now he knew she needed help. "Tell me where you are." He said aloud, hoping she could still hear him. He looked around, hoping no one heard him. "Cherry... If you can hear me, tell me where you are." Amelio turned and opened a drawer within his desk. He pulled out a small talisman from the drawer. The talisman was adorned with several esoteric markings, clearly from an ancient era. "This'll do." He said with a slight smile. Amelio began to chant a mantra, told to him by his father. A ward of sorts to keep off the evil that could potentially harm them. The talisman glowed and hummed to life, brimming with the same blue energy that Amelio had used before. (edited)

The truth was she didn’t know where the heck she was! Some alleyway in the middle of God only knows where. At the time it seemed like the perfect spot to hide in so she could pass a couple of hours. A place where she could be alone and draw and forget about all her troubles. That was until this demon thing decided to show up, announcing they needed a handshake. Yikes, no thank you! “Stay away from me!” She turned and started to run but the creature was fast and dead set on getting his way. He was standing in front of her before she had a chance to realize what happened. Trying again she headed for the opposite end of the alley but the demon was in front of her once more. This time they pinned her to the brick wall. Cherry grimaced and closed her eyes. She didn’t want to look into the face of something so evil. And her fear was going wild, mixing with the part of her that said she was crazy to think Amelio could hear her. “I don’t know where I am. I’m so scared. Please help me, Amelio!” She trembled under the grip of the creature that had its claws around her shoulders to hold her in place. The smell of its breath was foul and rushed down the length of her chest. How was she going to get away from them?
12:45
Suddenly, her palm shot forward and she hit the demon in its pointed chin. Thrusting her hand upward like some sort of karate move she probably saw in a TV show. Surprised when the demon toppled backward which allowed her to make a run for it and this time she didn’t forget her notebook. She snagged it before rushing out of the alleyway, immediately glancing up to a street sign. “Davis Avenue” The image of the sign burned into her mind. She thought these words over and over again. That’s where she was. She was running on David Avenue and being chased by something from the darkest corners of hell.

As she ran from the demon, the very same blue energy Amelio used before began to swirl in front of her. The energy formed a sort of aura around Cherry. Its light shining bright before slowly fading. Just as easily as the energy has arrived, so did Amelio. Now standing at the end of Davis Avenue. Talisman in hand, he looked at Cherry, "I placed a ward on you! Come quickly!" He shouted before reaching behind him. Quickly turning and aiming, Amelio aimed a gun towards the demon. Knowing it wouldn't do much but stall for time. Closing his right eye, Amelio lined up his shot, firing two rounds past Cherry. Though reckless, his shots hit the demon in its shoulder and left pectoral. The demon let out a loud cry of anger and rage as it stumbled from the shots. Amelio quickly grabbed Cherry's hand, and held her close. "Don't move." He said sternly as the talisman glowed and hissed, blue energy forming around the two of them. Slowly the energy began eat away at their form, as if causing them both to fade. Though it showed no signs of physically hurting the two. The demon regained its composure as the two bullets, slowly dropped from now clearly healed wounds. "Your pact with us is over human!" The demon shouted at Amelio. "WE SERVE YOU NO LONGER!" The demon's cry echoed loudly. Now completely faded, Amelio and Cherry were elsewhere. No longer on Davis Avenue, the two stood in a garden, the sun now completely set with the moon shone brightly above.

Light that was pure, warm, vibrant, and energetically magical surrounded the world around her. Illuminating her face with a soft caress of safety. Her eyes went wide when Amelio materialized from the portal, shocking her fear into a frozen ice cube. The demon chasing her was just as surprised, but instead of feeling relieved like Cherry, they were full of rage. Bang! Bang! Cherry wanted to fall to the ground. Cover herself with her arms to hide from the danger that circled her world like a shark but she kept on running toward Amelio. Just had to get to him. There wasn’t time to ask how he appeared there. It didn’t matter! All she knew is she needed to escape the monster hunting her shadow. The one that was doing everything possible to take her into the depths of misery. Wasn’t this world supposed to be full of wonder and fairies? Amelio took her by the hand and she squeezed her palm against his tightly. There was no way she was gonna let go. Nu-uh! She was stuck to him like super glue and shaking with tremors of terror. There was just enough time to look over her shoulder at the demon who’d been shot in the chest. Watching how furious they were with Amelio. Poof! The demon was gone and Cherry stood with her savior in a garden under a wash of silver moonlight. Her breathing was fast even though they were standing still. There were so many questions she had but they all mixed together leaving her mind completely blank. Anxiety was raw with each beat of her heart making her feel hot and cold at the same time. A big reason why her palm was so sweaty.
10:36
“What did they mean they don’t serve you anymore? How-...... how’d you do that?! How are we here right now!?” She was grateful, upset, joyous, and overwhelmed simultaneously….. and she was going to faint. Yup. It was happening. Her eyes started to close and the grip she had on Amelio started to loosen. The world around her faded to black.

"Hey, hey breath Cherry." Amelio said quickly as he noticed Cherry beginning to fade. As her grip loosened and her eyes began to close, Amelio wrapped his arms around her. He hoisted her into his arms and grunted as he leveled himself. "Phew." He sighed and looked down at her, "I'm sorry.... You had to go through that." Amelio said softly as he looked forward. He stood for a moment, contemplating the demon's words. "That had to be father... Wait, no that can't be possible. Not so soon after I told him about her." He muttered. "Could it have been Ulissi?" The mere thought of his younger sibling, sent a shudder up his spine. Amelio shook his head and tried to clear the thought from his head. "He's overseas..." He said before focusing on Cherry. "I've gotta get you somewhere safe." Once more the blue energy swirled around Amelio, forming yet another portal. Stepping into it brought the pair into a large room, clearly within a home of some kind. The floor was a dark hardwood and immaculate. The walls were a similar beige to Amelio's own room. Walking forward, Amelio made his way to the couch, slowly lying Cherry down onto its soft cushions. The couch itself was a plain white, with small red embroideries. Matching pillows adorned its seats. Moonlight shown through the long windows of the living room and onto the hardwood. Amelio made his way to another couch, sitting down across from Cherry. He sighed heavily and slowly took off his glasses. He placed them on the coffee table, sitting in the center of the living area. His gaze lowered to the floor as he lowered his shoulders to a slouch. "She's a threat huh..." he said as he slowly turned his gaze to Cherry. "She's no more a threat than a fly on the wall." Amelio closed his eyes and began to relax into the couch. (edited)

Nightmares swirled in and out tormenting every moment Cherry was cursed within a deep slumber. Gunshots. Death. Demons. The face of something terrible inches away from bringing her into a dark hell. She screamed. Now sitting upright and breathing heavily. Her hands came to her chest and held onto the rushed exhales leaving her lungs. She couldn’t stop the panic attack from making her suffer. The world she thought she once knew was slipping away like the fine sands of an hourglass. One grain at a time she was left with nothing but an empty world full of terrors. Blonde hair tumbled over her shoulders as she adjusted herself on the couch. What was this unfamiliar place? Weren’t they in a garden? She looked around and took everything in all at once. Then there was Amelio. Watching her. Sitting on his own couch across from where she was mentally spiraling. “What the HELL!” is all she could manage to say. Not the best response. Something along the lines of ‘thank you for saving my life’ would have been more appropriate but Cherry wasn’t in the right frame of mind. “What the actual hell, Amelio!” She was on her feet pacing the room like a frightened animal, replaying the moments of the day in her mind like a flickering carousel, “There was a demon, he wanted something from me, I thought I heard you in my mind, and then you appeared and SHOT a demon. YOU SHOT A DEMON!”
22:49
Her mind snapped. She was having a mental breakdown and Amelio had a front row seat.... and even though she was suffering, she was still mildly attractive while doing it. The freckles on her nose scrunched as she contemplated how all of this could’ve happened. Blue eyes rimmed with dark lashes blinked away fretful tears that wanted to fall over her cheeks but couldn’t. She was too stunned to cry. Finally, she turned to face Amelio dead on giving him her full attention. Her body was caressed by the glow of bright moonlight spilling into the room. “Tell me right now - what is going on? I’m not crazy!” She said that last part more for her own benefit, trying her best convince herself she was speaking the truth.

Amelio sat on the couch. His body now comfortably situated within the cushions. He watched Cherry pace, her words, the tears, all of it. He held a tired look on his face, eyes half-lidded. He slowly rose from the couch. As she faced Amelio, he moved closer to her. Without saying a word, he slowly wrapped his arms around her. He embraced her, giving a soft sigh before he spoke. "Cherry you're safe." He spoke in his deep voice. "You're safe." He repeated. He continued to hold her, clearly she needed support, something to ground her back to reality. Amelio looked behind her into the darkness of the room. She wasn't the only one stressed and confused. Amelio began to think aloud, "Demons are drawn to us. Some humans make deals with them, its how they're able to stay in the physical world." Amelio said as he continued his embrace. "Cherry, you and I are gifted with something extraordinary. Demons are going to want it because it hasn't been seen in years." Amelio slowly lowered his arms to his sides, releasing Cherry. He looked down at her, his deep brown eyes, meeting her blue ones. "I need you back here... Back in this world. Let go of the bad." Amelio said calmly. He knew it wouldn't be easy, but he'd become desensitized to the madness. He believed he could help her.

Maybe she should take out a notepad and start writing all of this down. Number one, demons were drawn to them. Number two, don’t freak out. Number three, calm down!? Cherry wriggled out from Amelio’s gentle embrace just so she could look at him incredulously, doing this as he released her. “Amelio, I’m going to lose my mind in a second here!” She brought her hands up and turned them back and forth, concluding this wasn’t a dream. Her small fists went to her hips and she gazed back into his beautiful brown eyes. Although he was comforting she couldn’t get on board with simmering her emotions. Not after a demon chased her wanting to make some sort of deal. How exactly did Amelio show up right when she needed him the most? “You said we’re gifted. Can you tell me what you mean by that? I’m pretty good at drawing but something tells me scribbling a decent stick figure isn’t what you’re talking about!” Locks of healthy blonde hair fell over her shoulders shining against a cascade of moonlight spilling through the windows. “If you can tell me what makes us unique maybe I stand a chance understanding this new reality, the one where shooting a demon is a normal thing. Also, where am I!?” Did she make a mistake running away from home? So far only bad luck had caught up to her, but Amelio was her friend, right? She was counting on him to help her so she closed her mouth, giving him a chance to guide her through this chaos.

Amelio stayed silent for a moment, observing. His gaze ran from her golden locks to her blue orbs. Soon slowly following the path of moonlight that accentuated her form. His gaze stopping just at the ground. He slowly closed his eyes and let out a sigh. "We're gifted...born from powerful lineages of magicians." Amelio opened his eyes and looked deep into her own. "This reality has always been real. Demons, us, normal humans, everything." He crossed his arms. "Some are more perceptive than others. Demons take a physical form when the boundaries between our reality and theirs is thin, they're able to interact with the physical world." Amelio knew he would soon have to expose the family feud and its repercussions. "Cherry... You and I are some of the only living individuals able to use this magic and power nowadays.... Its almost a lost art due to how little magic is truly left in the world. Modern technology tends to do that." Amelio soon placed a hand on his right shoulder and began to rub it. "Our houses have always been at odds... For how long I can't say, but the story goes, is my family's progenitor Ayād enslaved your family for several generations. Feeding off of their life to sustain himself and his family..." "Of course that would never last forever and your family rebelled, revenge and several wars later... And here we are, you and myself. Rose and Demethius" He slowly lowered his hand. He took a deep breath and felt as if a weight had lifted from his shoulders. He felt safe knowing he wasn't the only one burdened with history. With that he looked back into her beautiful blue orbs. "Cherry." He called out her name softly. (edited)

Magic. Demons. A family feud dating back centuries? Cherry sat on the couch in silence trying to take all of this in. It was too much! Her feet shifted on the ground as if trying to pass the time. At least two minutes went by before she looked up to Amelio. “My life is never going to be the same again, is it?” She thought about the park where she’d first met him. How life seemed easy back when she thought she was crazy. Tiny fairies would fly past her and they were just something out of her imagination to draw in her notebook. Her notebook….. she’d been so consumed with the day’s events that she didn’t even know where it was! “No my life really isn’t going to be the same again,” her voice trembled a little. She rubbed her eyes feeling tired with disbelief. The concept of having powers of some sort hadn’t sunk in. All she wanted to do was close her eyes, have a dream (which would most likely be a nightmare) and when she woke up she’d be back in her bed without having to worry about any of this. “Is there somewhere I can sleep, Amelio?” Cherry pat the couch gently and curled up on the cushions. She needed to rest her eyes if only for a moment. Just enough to give her some strength back. The truth was if she fell asleep she would probably sleep for over twelve hours. Was it safe? She didn’t have a choice. Her gentle stare looked to Amelio to see if he was going to watch over her or if he was going to spring more news on their situation. Her eyelids became heavy. “I just need to rest a little bit.”
11:55
The curious thing was Cherry could sense Amelio’s energy in the room. She was able to feel him just by standing in close proximity and wasn’t sure if that was something she was making up, or if she was just exhausted. She would get the answers she needed when she woke. At least she prayed she would.

Amelio stayed silent as she drifted. He took a silent breathe before walking towards her. He slowly and carefully lifted her from the couch. Each step was now methodic as he tried to keep her from waking. Amelio headed towards a bedroom, away from the living area of the room. Sat squarely in the back center of the room was a queen sized bed, neatly made with several pillows. The pillows were silky textured and had numerous embroideries. Some were beige while others were white. The comforter was a simple neutral color that matched the decor of the room. Amelio smiled slightly as he laid Cherry down on the bed. He was happy to help her rest, if even for a little. He closed his eyes and thought to himself. 'How am I gonna explain this? How can I even...maintain this relationship with her. Friend or not she's a Rose...' Amelio sighed and began the process of tucking Cherry in. He tried to do his best to make her comfortable but knew she'd suffer tonight. The things she'd experienced would haunt her like they'd done to him. Amelio walked out of the room and back to the living room. He sat on the couch and made himself comfortable. Amelio began to slowly drift off and enter a deep slumber. Throughout the night, Amelio's dreams plagued him, from childhood traumas to the demons he'd seen. Each flash of memory left him tossing and turning. (edited)

The next morning Cherry woke with the sun in her eyes. How long had she been out? Too long, that’s for sure. She swung her legs over the edge of the bed and sat up all groggy. Ugh, this was the worst feeling. Like having a hangover without any of the fun the night before. And she woke up alone! Lame. She rubbed her eyes and searched the room for more clues as to where she was. Nothing looked familiar, and Amelio was nowhere to be found. Her feet lowered to the ground and she realized someone had removed her shoes at some point and even tucked her in. Her gut told her it was Amelio’s doing. Her friend? Her enemy? All of the complications from the night before came crashing down. “Wish I could use magic to get rid of this headache.” Her body hurt everywhere and she didn’t know why. She stumbled into the hallway and quietly into the living room where Amelio was sleeping. He was sprawled out on one of the couches. She walked over to an empty sofa chair next to the window and sat down, looking out at a world she didn’t understand. The sunlight pouring into the room was warm and enveloped her in a soft yellow glow. She brought her knees up to her chest and hugged herself. All the thoughts from the night before started to return. But the biggest question of all kept knocking on her door. How could she use her powers? Maybe that wasn’t the most important question. The more she thought about it she started to realize there was something else weighing on her mind.
16:31
She turned her head and stared at Amelio, the guy she didn’t really know, and started to question why she felt so….. connected to him. Cherry pulled her bottom lip under her teeth and started to chew nervously, doing this because she could sense a quiet tremor of trouble headed her way. She’d need to stay strong and mentally prepare herself for whatever the day would bring.

"If I didn't know any better I'd say you're checking me out." Amelio said with a smirk. His eyes remained closed as he spoke. He slowly lifted himself from the couch and sat up. His chest was bare and shown as he was shirtless. His body was of an average build yet clearly toned enough to show some definition of his muscles. Amelio began to rub the sleep out of his eyes and opened them, looking at Cherry. "You're at my estate. If you're still wondering where you're at." He followed with a yawn and closed his eyes once more. Despite the previous night's emotions, Amelio seemed as if he held no lingering affects and remained calm. Clearly he could feel the tension in the room, Cherry still needed answers. Sitting up and now facing Cherry, Amelio's gaze met her own. "Breakfast?" He offered. "I know you're probably dying for something to eat." He slowly rose and walked towards a connected kitchen. Though it wasn't visible due to the previously dark night, the kitchen itself was simple. An island counter sat as a centerpiece. Several of the countertops were all granite and accompanied by dark oak cabinets. An electric stove sat neatly between a set of counters. Further down was through fridge. Opening the fridge, Amelio began to contemplate the previous night and the new visitor to his home. "Anymore questions?" He spoke, back facing Cherry while reaching for a carton of eggs. (edited)

Did she have questions, hm, yes she had lots of questions! But her stomach growled and she figured she’d better save them for later. Pressing matters could wait, right? Everyone needed breakfast, and if Amelio was going to cook her eggs he was in for a big surprise. “I only eat fruit in the morning,” she said loudly from the livingroom, calling out to wherever Amelio was in the house. She wasn’t trying to be difficult, but ever since that summer she spent on a farm with Aunt Dabbi she was forced to eat fresh eggs every morning. After that experience, she couldn’t stomach them anymore. Cherry got to her feet and walked to the kitchen, grabbing one of the stools under the island and sat down, propping her elbows on the countertop. “Amelio, how can I use my powers? How do I activate them?” She looked at her hands and tried shaking them, but nothing happened. Her blue eyes scanned the kitchen for answers but didn’t find anything helpful. She was bewildered. Her tiny fists clenched into her lap and she sulked forward, blonde hair sliding over her shoulders to hang on the countertop. She still felt hungover even though she hadn’t been drinking the night before. She thought about the portal Amelio created, bringing them from one location to another. The fact their families were feuding for centuries. Her choice to leave her home. The demon that wanted her to make a deal and…. worked for Amelio? His family? She forgot about that part. Her gaze slowly rose to stare at Amelio, wondering if she could trust him, but in the end, she was distracted by his shirtless body and soft brown skin.

Amelio's ears perked to her statement, "only fruit, huh... Weird" he said with a slight smile. He cracked and egg with his pack turned to her. The yolky substance fell into a pan, bubbling as the heat began to cook it. "Well you can activate them... With a little." Amelio began to let the egg simmer before flipping it. "Willpower, think about what you want to do... Then just well imagine it happening in front of you." The muscles in Amelio's back flexed as he stretched his arms upward. "See the thing about magic is, it can be whatever you want it to be. You just have to have the imagination." Amelio finished the egg and set it onto a simple white plate. He reached once more into the fridge and grabbed an assortment of fruit. Apples, grapes, pears, peaches, etc. He placed them onto another plate for Cherry. He turned towards Cherry, chest still bare and skin exposed. He set her plate in front of her and met her gaze. Unconciously he began to smile a bit, clearly showing off a friendly side to her. Amelio walked away from the stove and around the island. He pulled a stool from beneath the island and sat beside her. With a sigh he began to eat his egg. "Remember what I said," Amelio said while covering his mouth with a hand, "we have untapped potential... at least that's what I was led to believe." His gaze met her's once more, now with an inquisitive look. "Try it Cherry."

Try what, exactly? Cherry wasn’t sure if he meant the fruit or her magical powers. So she did what seemed logical and pulled the plate full of fruit towards her, grabbing a pear slice and slipped it between her lips. Immediately she started to feel better. Stupid how food could change your entire mood. She sighed with relief now that the hunger was dying down, her tummy thanking her for doing something right. She ate the apple and grapes next, but saved the peach for last. Cherry held onto the peach while staring at the empty plate in front of her. She thought about it moving across the island. Or lifting it into the air. She tried a number of ideas in her mind but the plate wouldn’t budge. This was disappointing to say the least and Cherry couldn’t hide that emotion from her face. The peach was ripe and tasted delicious when she bit into it, the flesh crunching under her teeth, juice running down the side of her mouth that she had to wipe on the back of her hand. She growled with frustration, sucking on the peach pit as she continued trying to move the plate. “Dang it, Amelio, this is useless. Nothing is happening. You probably don’t have the right person, maybe someone else named Cherry you’ve confused me with.” But at that very moment, the plate shifted an inch to the right, and Cherry was no longer frustrated. She was stunned. And dropped the peach pit onto the ground by accident. She placed her palms face down on the counter and concentrated, focusing all her attention on the dish until it moved again. “Oh my, God.” is all she could say, and turned to look at Amelio with pure shock. “I…. I did it.”

Amelio's eyes widened as the plate moved. "I told you!" He said with an excited shout. With a smile he looked back at Cherry. "I knew you could do it." Amelio began to stare deeply into Cherry's eyes. Keeping silent as he observed her beautiful blue orbs. Each moment that passed he took in the shape and color. As the silence seemed to grow old, Amelio blinked and brought himself back. He chuckled a bit as he stood up. "Sorry about that." He closed his eyes, a smile still visible on his lips. "You've got gorgeous eyes..." He said before taking both plates away. He walked towards the sink and thoroughly rinsed both plates off. Setting them in the dishwasher, Amelio turned to face Cherry once more. "Remember what I told you... Magic can be anything you want it to." He snapped his fingers before opening his hand. Blue energy unfurled itself into a small rose. "You just gotta have the imagination..." Amelio slowly reached his hand out to Cherry, the small rose still in his palm. "For you." Amelio said with a smile.

Cherry reached out and took the rose from Amelio, holding it gracefully in her hand. She wasn’t sure what to make of all of this. Magic? Was real? Was this flower really here? She leaned down and sniffed the petals becoming entranced by the sweet scent filling her nostrils. Yeeep the flower was definitely real! She couldn’t hold back a smile. “Thank you, you have beautiful eyes, too, Amelio.” Cherry tucked her hair behind her ears and set the rose down on the kitchen counter. She stared at the flower for a long time until the petals eventually turned from a red to a light blue. Already she was figuring out how to use her powers. She had the imagination, but what did that mean for the rest of the world? Their families were at war. This is why her mother didn’t want her to leave. Having this kind of power was dangerous and that’s something Amelio probably knew, too. How could she trust him? She bit down on her lower lip tasting the anxiety in her chest. Before she could say another word there was a knock at the door, and Cherry looked just as surprised as Amelio. “W-who is that?” she asked him, but something told her he didn’t have the answer. She scooted off the stool and took a few steps away from the kitchen island as if she was prepared to run. But to where? There was nowhere to go.

The knocking on the door sent a chill down Amelio's spine as his eyes focused on the door. Knock, knock, knock. Each one slow yet methodical. Amelio slowly turned his head and looked at Cherry. In that very moment, he knew there was no way he could explain her being there. "Amelio!" A voice shouted from the other side of the door. Acting quickly, Amelio grabbed ahold of Cherry's hand. "Go to the bedroom and don't make a sound." He said without hesitation, eyes now leveled with her's. The expression on his face was a mix of concern and seriousness. As Cherry hurried back into the room, Amelio quickly and steadily made his way towards the door. "Shit... Now of all times." He muttered as he grabbed the t-shirt he'd worn to bed. Putting it on with haste. Taking a deep breath Amelio, reached for the doorknob and turned. "Ame-" the voice was abruptly cut short, just as quickly as Amelio opened the door. To his surprise, there stood Dorian. A look of disgust sat on his face as he looked at Amelio.

"Clean yourself up." Dorian said quickly in his usual condescending tone. "I've got no time to be babysitting you Amelio, especially with this Huerta business." "Do you realize who you're talking to?" Amelio snapped angrily. "I'm not a child n-" "And I'm not your father! Save the rebuttal for him and get your shit together!" Dorian crossed his arms and leaned his head to the side, peering into the house, behind Amelio. "I'd suggest you try and cover up your next fling next time..." he said with a scoff as he noticed Cherry's shoes. "Fling? What're you..." His voice trailed off as he remembered the shoes. "Will you just fuck off kindly?" Amelio said with a sarcastic smile before turning and attempting to close the door. Catching the door with his foot, Dorian followed behind Amelio. "I'll wait. Get her out of here and get ready. We don't have time to waste. If the Rose's secure Huerta International.... Need I remind you of the repercussions?" Amelio's shoulders rose as he took a deep breath to calm himself. "No Dorian..."

Panic lit up Cherry’s face like a Christmas tree being plugged in with all its decorations for the first time. There was zero time before Amelio’s front door opened and an argument started. Good Lord, who was that? They didn’t sound friendly and they sure as heck didn’t sound like someone Amelio wanted to speak with. She pressed her ear to the door of the bedroom and tried to make out as much as she could. Everything sounded like it was going fine until - Cherry covered her mouth with her hands and looked down to her bare feet. Shiiiiiiit! She forgot her shoes in the living room and now the dude wanted her to come out. But if she left the room would they recognize her as being part of the Rose family? She searched Amelio’s bedroom for another escape. Jumping out the window when they were so high up seemed like a stupid idea. Soooo? Take her chances and walk out as if she were some crappy one night stand? Yup! That sounded right. She turned the doorknob and pretended to do the walk of shame. Keeping her head down and blue eyes pinned to the floor. She shuffled to the living room and grabbed her floppy sandals. She didn’t even put them on. Just get out of there! Carefully scooting in between Amelio and the guy in the doorway with a nervous laugh. Her blonde hair covering her face while keeping her head lowered. She was halfway down the hall when the curiosity finally caught up with Dorian. “HEY!” he called out.
11:37
Cherry started running and just as she was near a door with a green EXIT sign she felt a strong grip on the back of her shoulder, spinning her around to face the brut who’d shown up at Amelio’s place. “I recognize you. Is this really the daughter of Armand Rose?” Dorian glared at Amelio from down the hallway, his grip on Cherry tightening. He pushed her out the exit she was headed for only this time guiding her in a new direction. Cherry caught a glance of Amelio before being shoved into a stairwell. She was scared and called out his name, but the door closed and suddenly had to try and keep up with Dorian’s pace down a flight of concrete stairs. “W-where are you taking me?!” she stumbled and held onto the handrail to keep from falling. Dorian kept pushing. He looked mad and didn’t answer any of her questions. They were finally outside where the sunlight barely touched her. Forced into a black SUV with the car door slamming behind her she saw nothing but darkness as a bag was pulled over her head.

With wide eyes, Amelio quickly tried to hurry behind Dorian. Trying desperately to catch him and Cherry before she was discovered. Dorian's glare towards Amelio, sent a shiver down his spine and froze him in his tracks. The gaze alone wasn't what stopped him, rather the thought that, Dorian now knew. Amelio rushed after Dorian, grabbing ahold of his arm with a tight grip. "Stop!" Amelio said with a fury as his anger welled up. Dorian quickly yanked his arm from Amelio and spun to meet him. "You're hiding a Rose! You fool!" Dorian shouted. "And I had everything under control... Until you, of all fucking people, showed up." Amelio said through gritted teeth. Dorian looked at Amelio with malice yet skepticism. "How did she come into your presence then?" Dorian asked now with a calmer and lowered voice. "I met her yesterday. I was hoping to gain her trust... For 'our' gain. Now that plan is ruined thanks to your actions, dipshit." Amelio said with a scoff. Dorian ignored the jab and looked away, now out to the street they were on. Several moments passed as tension grew between the pair. Amelio now with crossed arms. Dorian still contemplating. "Bring her to the manor... Present her to your father. We'll interrogate her, learn what she knows of Armand's plans for Huerta." Amelio sighed and closed his eyes, "and if she knows nothing?" He asked. "Then we use her for ransom." Dorian said with a cold expression. He soon turned and opened the driver door to the SUV. "Hurry up." He said to Amelio before stepping into the SUV. Moments later, Amelio now sat in the passenger seat, dressed with a simple black polo and accompanying khaki slacks. Sat in the back was Cherry. Amelio kept a close eye on her through the rear view mirror. Despite his words, Amelio was conflicted. His gaze was focused on her being. "Damn..." He muttered. "What?" Dorian said while driving. "Nothing." Amelio said as he turned his head towards the window.
06:31
The three arrived at the Demethius manor. The SUV was parked in the circular driveway outside the main entrance to the manor. Amelio and Dorian stepped out. With a quick tug, Dorian fixed the suit jacket he was wearing. Amelio let out a sigh and stepped towards the backdoor of the SUV. He opened the door to see Cherry still sat, bound and blinded in the backseat. Begrudgingly, Amelio grabbed her arm and tried gently to remove her from the seat.

She could see muffled colors through the bag on her head. Blurry patches of nothingness. Even when she squint that did nothing to bring clarity to her surroundings. Eventually, she gave up trying to figure out where they were headed. The whole thing was a mess. Ever since Amelio saved her from a demon and teleported her into some unknown garden, she’d passed out, and then she was in his home? How was any of this actually happening? She could do magic?! Unbelievable, and it didn’t matter because she couldn’t get herself out of this. She thought about making the car tires explode but that would be dangerous, and the most important factor, she wasn’t strong enough to pull something like that off. Cherry wished she were skilled enough to make a difference right now. When someone in the front seat said, “Damn.” she could have sworn that was Amelio’s voice. She felt an icy chill burn her lungs sucking in her surprise. She trusted him…. so why was he in the front seat betraying her? Oh right. Because their families were at war and he was setting her up. She clenched her fists, which were bound in front of her at the wrists, and tried not to cry. There would be nowhere for the tears to go or any point in letting that kind of emotion escape her. Maybe when the car stopped she could throw herself at whoever opened the door and make a blind run for it. Time to decide. The car suddenly stopped and her heart was pounding. She heard two people get out of the car, one of them walked to her side and opened her door. But before she could do a ninja move to free herself someone grabbed her by the arm and gently pulled her out. She shuffled her feet on the ground unsure of what she was walking on. Grass at one point. Then cement flat like a sidewalk.
22:53
A door opened and the air around her changed as the lighting under the hood went darker. The door shut and she knew they’d walked into some kind of building. No one was talking. There were no sounds at all. Only the noise of another door opening and being shoved forward. She stumbled and fell down, her knees hitting the floor with a thud. The bag was ripped off her head and she looked up to Dorian, who was glaring at her. She glared back at him. And when he went to leave and close the door behind him she made eye contact with…. Amelio. There was so much emotion within those short few seconds before the door closed. Help me. How could you? What’s going on? But now she was all by herself in a room with a small window toward the very top of the ceiling letting in a single ray of light. The rest of the room was made of stone with nothing else. No chair. Or bed. Nothing. She struggled to free herself from the bindings on her wrists but they didn’t budge. For now, she’d sit there and try to listen for noise outside the door. But there was only silence. In a moment of weakness, she used her thoughts to reach out to Amelio, saying his name, hoping he’d answer her.

Dorian closed the door with a loud thud. Taking a key from his pocket, he locked it. "Inform my father..." Amelio said glumly. Despite the opportunities, Cherry's capture might bring, Amelio knew of his family's intent. Dorian continued down the hallway that lead to a flight of stairs. Within moments he'd disappeared into the manor. Amelio placed a hand on the door. He could hear her thoughts as she cried out to him. He closed his eyes and meticulously thought about his next choice of words. "Cherry... This was never my intention. Your name alone makes you a target, I'll try to get you treated with respect... But there's no guarantee." Amelio said as he lowered his hand from the door. Just like Dorian, he continued down the hallway. Making his way out, Amelio found himself in the foyer. The manor was quiet and Amelio felt the sudden weight of the situation press onto his shoulders. He clenched his fists tightly, furrowing his brow as his expression changed. "Fuck..." He muttered angrily. "Fuck." He repeated. He began to pace back and forth, hand now stroking his chin. "Father is going to hurt her..." Dorian stepped down from the large staircase, that was centered in the foyer. "What are you muttering about?" He asked. "None of your business." Amelio said with a glare. "If you'd just sta-" Dorian raised a finger. "You should be happy I brought her here. If your father found you, then it could've been perceived as something.... Romantic." He said with a vile smirk. "What are you implying?" Amelio asked, nostrils flaired. "Well she was in your estate.... Alone with you." Dorian began to chuckle and laugh, "I'd have thought you were trying to f-"

Amelio's eyes widened with rage as he raised a hand. Dorian's laugh quickly quieted into a shriek of pain and grunts as he fell from the stairs. Each thud and thump seemingly ending with a sickening thud as he landed on the foyer floor. Amelio stepped toward him, and stood quietly over him. "Not much effort to push you without touching you." He said coldly. Dorian's eyes widened and looked with shock and fear at the young Demethius. "Y-you wouldn't dare..." "Oh but I would... If I were so inclined to Dorian. Cross me again and I'll make sure you disappear." Amelio said before walking back down the hallway towards Cherry's prison. Dorian slowly clambered to his feet, holding his bloodied nose. He placed his free hand onto his shoulder and glared at Amelio. Amelio stopped outside the door and looked at it. He could feel Cherry's presence and her emotions despite the barrier.

A target. She was a flipping target!? Arrrg. She knew he was telling the truth but still! Hearing him say it in her head was a whole different ballgame. Somehow it made the experience more sucky. Having a connection with someone and getting news like that. Still trying to figure out how talking to each other at a distance was even possible. Using only their minds to make this happen. What was going on? This should have been an incredible moment where Amelio used their connection to be like ‘don’t worry, I’m going to bust you out of there!’ but no. No no. Amelio had picked what side he was on. She waited to hear more from him but there was only silence. Oh well that’s just great! Cherry twist her wrists in her bindings and after five minutes of getting nowhere she gave up. What was she supposed to do? Wait for Amelio to come back and sell her out to his family? Is that why he’d lured her to his place so she could build a false trust? Just to wind up in this cell rotting for God only knows how long! There was a range of emotions poisoning her all at once. She went from being straight mad, to anxious, and finally settled on a determination to get the hell out of there. Starting with these bindings. She held her hands up to her face and focused on the plastic wire around her wrists. In an instant the bindings snapped off and fell to the ground leaving Cherry completely surprised. Maybe there was a way out of this. She tried her “magic” or whatever she was doing, focusing? Thinking? Just picturing the door opening…. but nothing happened. Cool.
12:16
Only slightly discouraged she wandered around the cell looking for a way out when she suddenly stopped. Cherry turned to face the door again and paused. She couldn’t explain how, but she could sense Amelio was right there. Her palms got sweaty and she quickly wiped them off on her sides. Keeping quiet to see if she could hear anything, but not like that mattered since Amelio could just pop into her head whenever he wanted! She squint at the door expecting to see through it but that did nothing except turn everything blurry. Maybe he wasn’t there….

Amelio stared at the door. He gave an intense yet inquisitive look. 'You're not going to break down that door Cherry. There's a ward on it.' Amelio spoke to her thoughts. He let out a sigh and crossed his arms. "If I set you free I'm a dead man. Your family... They're enemies." He spoke with a hint of anger slowly growing in his voice. Just as he finished, Amelio felt a sudden chill run up his spine as he felt his father's Presence. "Shit." He muttered before quickly turning around. He hurried from the hallway and to the foyer oncemore. The air was beginning to feel heavy in the house. As if a weight were pressing hard onto the shoulders of all who inhabited the house. Amelio shuddered and stood quietly, almost at attention. Dorian soon followed suit as he stood beside Amelio. "Not a single word." Amelio threatened to Dorian. Dorian glared from his peripheral. "We'll see just how well this goes before I get my revenge." He muttered. Without hesitation, the large doors of the manor opened. Walking with a steady yet methodical stride, was Amelio's father. "Lord Demethius." Dorian bowed. Amelio stood rigid and tried to hide the fear from his face. He worried about Dorian's words of the situation. "My lo-" Dorian spoke, "Father, I have good news for you." Amelio quickly cut Dorian off.
04:27
Darius Demethius's eyes slowly turned from his Dorian's bow to his son's. "Good news?" He spoke with a wicked smile. "Why what would that be my son?" Amelio took a deep breath and relaxed his poise, having beaten Dorian to the punch. "A girl from House Rose... I've captured her. The daughter of Armand Rose." Darius' eyes slowly widened as he clenched a fist. "T-this, is an unexpected situation... But a welcome one. Where is the girl?" He said as he began to take off his suit jacket. Beneath the black jacket was his elaborately patterned long-sleeve polo. Gold accents ran along a black colored base. He placed the jacket over his arm and began to walk towards the hallway. "She's in the prison father." Amelio followed behind his father. "I'm shocked... You were able to capture a Rose. They happen to be very elusive." Darius said as he continued down the hallway. "I've gained her trust." Amelio said. He looked away though, the slowly building guilt began to run up his spine. "I-.... Father what do you plan to do with her?" Darius stopped directly in front of the door. "Her power will belong to the House of course. As it always should be." Darius slowly reached for the doorknob and soon opened the door. His amber colored eyes looked directly into Cherry's as the two were now face to face.

Darius Demethius was a man that struck fear into the hearts of anyone he laid eyes on, and that person today was Cherry. She took two steps back when the heavy door opened and instead of Amelio standing there, it was someone with cruel amber eyes. Someone that punched terror into her soul. Was the room colder? Her back pressed against the wall of the cell unaware she’d kept walking backward until she had nowhere to go. No escape. Just this horrible destiny coming her way. The moment couldn’t have been any worse, right? Wrong. Amelio was standing behind the man the guards referred to as Lord Demethius. When he entered the room she felt a tremble in her knees. Only it wasn’t from fear. It was energy running throughout her body almost as if reacting to the energy the man possessed. How was that even possible? She felt every fiber of her being trying to repel him. Warning her to stay away. Cherry gasped when Lord Demethius grabbed her by the throat and squeezed, lifting her off her feet as he raised his arm. Her hands came to his wrist as she tried to fight him off, feet swinging. He was staring right into her eyes as he introduced himself. “I am Lord Demethius, what a pleasure it is to meet a member from House Rose,” his words were unkind and his smile was unwelcoming, “Do you know where you are, child?” he asked her.
16:08
Cherry couldn’t speak, but tears swelled in the corner of her eyes, which moved to the side begging Amelio to stop this. Amelio’s father caught this small gesture and laughed, tossing Cherry to the floor. “If you think my son will help you, then you are a foolish girl. Who do you think will stand at my side as I take what’s rightfully ours?” Cherry pushed herself to her feet and felt her cheeks burn. If only she knew how to knock this guy into the wall. All of them. Just tear this whole place down. She tried for a moment, concentrating on Amelio’s father to bring him to his knees but nothing happened. Nothing except Lord Demethius grinning. It was at that moment she realized he knew what she was trying to do and her face fell with discouragement. “Let me go,” she said finally, “or else you’ll pay the price for keeping me here. Mark my words, I will make you pay.” “Big words for such a small creature,” Lord Demethius countered. With a wave of his hand, the guards came to Cherry’s side and dragged her out of the cell by the elbows, bringing her into a large empty room with an extremely high ceiling. The air felt damp in there and the room was dark with little natural lighting. Like empty promises, she felt the sorrow of the experiences that had taken place in this space before her. Several individuals strapped her wrists to a pole in the center of the room and gathered around. Faces she didn’t know and wouldn’t remember…. only Amelio’s.

Darius continued into the room, his stride slow and methodical. Each step circling Cherry. Amelio entered the room and his eyes met Cherry's. Amelio's soft brown eyes gazed onto the soon reddening eyes of Cherry. He could see the fear and despair of her expression. "Ayad, the first of my House, enslaved your pathetic bloodline little one." Darius said as he stopped behind Cherry. He slowly began to run a hand through her blonde locks. "The power you hold now belongs to us... Stolen by your filthy ancestors." Darius slowly knelt down beside Cherry. His amber eyes, now glowing with a evil wickedness, unlike any demon Cherry or Amelio had faced. Amelio shuddered with his father's words. He could feel the power and Presence of his father. His energy slowly infesting the room and smothering Amelio's own power. "You hold so much potential, a surprise for sure, from a Rose." Darius slowly turned his gaze to Amelio. "And now my son, this is the moment we've waited for. Our power is going to be immense." Amelio nodded his head slowly, with a deep breathe he stepped towards Cherry, looking down at her. Despite the guilt behind his eyes, Amelio still looked down at Cherry with a condescendence. "Cherry..." He said in his deep voice. The blue energy slowly engulfed Amelio, like fire. An aura wreathed around him and slowly began to expand.
02:02
Tendrils of blue energy slowly crept from Amelio to Cherry. The tendrils slowly wrapped themselves around her, seeping deep into her spirit. Soon both Amelio and Cherry were linked. Spirits entwined through Amelio's energy. "Give me your power." Amelio kneeled before Cherry, looking deep into her eyes. Without saying a word, he spoke to Cherry in her thoughts. "Don't move. You're going to be safe." Darius smiled wickedly. He stood up tall, amber eyes focused on Amelio. "Good son, good!" he said with excitement. "Take everything from her... Leave nothing behind... Crush her being." Darius's own aura began to develop. Deep green colored energies pulsated from his being. Though smaller than Amelio's, it still emanated a fiery power.

Being touched by Darius was like being touched by a volatile ghost. She felt his ghastly fingers slide against her silky hair and a river of goosebumps ran down her pale skin. The worst part was that Cherry could feel his negative energy surrounding her. She could sense him wanting to take her life force and use it for evil. This was a new development in her abilities and one she didn’t expect or want. Not only could she sense him, but she could tap into everyone in the room, especially Amelio…. picking up on his reassurance that everything would be alright. But would it? What about their tarnished trust? Her heart started to pound out of fear, anxiety, and suspicion. That’s when she felt pure warmth surround her like a summer breeze coming in through an open window. The undeniable affection Amelio held for her trickled into her heart as his blue energy intertwined with her soul. They were spiritually connected and she was no longer afraid of what was to come. The brilliant colors of vibrant green and eerie blue danced in her wide eyes as Darius and Amelio performed their dishonorable ritual. Her mouth parted ever so slightly out of awe for the situation. She wanted to fight. To battle and struggle against what was happening but Amelio’s energy kept her calm. Her focus cascaded around the room which was glistening with an array of colors. She’d never seen anything like it before. The energy was moving around every object. Was this because of Amelio? Or had she unlocked some part of herself kept dormant over the years….
20:16
“You don’t frighten me,” she said to Darius looking straight into his hateful golden eyes, knowing her confidence would anger him, and then turned to Amelio with nothing but trust. She was ready to take his side. It was them against everyone and they were going to win no matter the cost. Her blonde hair tumbled over her shoulders as she leaned forward in pain. The energy transfer taking place was tingling throughout her body. At first, it was as if her limbs had fallen asleep. Those little pricks turned to sharp jabs and soon she was feeling the agony from Darius. A battle of good and evil taking place right inside of her.

Amelio's eyes closed as hell began to calm Cherry, hoping his father wouldn't notice. Darius's eyes narrowed down at Cherry. "You should be afraid, pathetic child..." His deep voice held much malice and sounded cold. Amelio winced as the energy penetrated Cherry's soul. He could feel his father's presence steadily creeping. "Now Amelio, wrench it free..." He commanded, his energy soon attacking every fiber in Cherry's body. Every wince and shriek of pain, Cherry let out, sent a sick pleasure up Darius spine. "Power is the birthright of my family... Subjugation is yours child." Darius spoke as his amber eyes began to glow. His aura grew brighter as he sapped away a portion of Cherry's power. "Yes..." He whispered heavily. Amelio opened his eyes and turned his head to face his father. "Father..." He said with a calm voice. "Its over..." Darius's eyes met his son's. A moment of silence, between the father and son. The sounds of energy swirling around them. Quickly realizing his son's intentions, Darius reacted with a quickened reach. Amelio clenched his teeth shut as a powerful burst of energy came from him. Darius flew back several feet, slamming into a the nearby wall with a sickening crack. "YOU DARE!" he shouted with venom. A sudden sputter of blood flew from his mouth to the floor as he slowly stood up.
07:12
Amelio's energy relinquished Cherry's soul. With a quick motion he snapped her bindings and grabbed ahold of her. "You won't have her. Not me, not her, not a damn thing in this fucking world!" Amelio shouted angrily. The two Demethius' expressions changed to pure hatred. Amelio for his father's wickedness, and Darius for his son's betrayal. As quickly as the two stood to there feet, did the door burst open. Several armed guards ran into the room, covering Darius with their bodies. Guns pointed at Amelio and Cherry. "My son.... My firstborn, my heir." Darius said as he clenched a fist. "Your compassion is your weakness. I've given you everything.... And this filth is what turns you against your family?!" He snapped to one of the guards, "kill them!" Amelio sent another wave at the crowd. Darius and his guards flew back, being knocked to the ground. Despite the attack, one unloaded their weapon. Discharging two shots into Amelio. Amelio let out a loud grunt, as a bullet struck his shoulder and chest. Blood instantly covered his shirt. Realizing what had occurred, he grabbed ahold of Cherry, instinctively opening a portal.

The power leaving Amelio’s hand forced the guards to fly backward as if they weighed nothing. Once hitting the ground, several of them cracked their heads upon impact. Others slammed their backs against the far walls and immediately groaned with pain. Cherry did her best to hold onto her breath, but the strength of Amelio’s power caused her to falter. “Amelio!” she screamed. Cherry grabbed onto him when blood started to sputter from his bullet wound. The pain Amelio’s father created within her body suddenly vanished, like a new sun rising over the edge of mountains, Cherry found the power within herself to fight for what she believed in. The portal opened and the guards were getting up, taking aim, and firing new shots in their direction. She raised her hand in the air and just like Neo from the Matrix stopped the racing bullets from impaling them. She didn’t think it was going to work, but when it did, she had an overload of confidence to do it again. Cherry looped her arm under Amelio and tugged him into the portal where colors, dreams, and nightmares bled into one. They spun in a vortex with strips of red and blue lightning swirling around their bodies. She should've been scared, but she wasn’t. At least not yet. Her arms were wrapped around Amelio as they flew through time and space. Both of them hit the ground in a rolling tumble and the portal snapped shut. They were somewhere Cherry had never seen. There were sparkling waterfalls and large canopy trees hovering above their head with soft green grass pressing into Amelio’s back. During their landing, Cherry had been flung a few feet away from Amelio.

She crawled over to his body and placed a hand on his chest, “Amelio!” she said over and over again. “Are you okay? Can you hear me?” It was midnight with a full moon lingering just above the trees. Slices of silver moonlight broke through the shadowy area, offering very little light for Cherry and Amelio to see.

Amelio laid silent in the meadow. The soft caress seemed to gently caress is his body. His eyes were shut and breathing a slow and steady pace. The cries, Cherry made for him seemed muffled. A slow and steady warmth washed over his body, sending small tingles throughout his body. 'What's happening?' He asked his subconscious. 'This isn't right...' His thoughts continued as the blue energy aura began to fizzle. Its wisp like properties were slowly dying and receding back towards Amelio. 'I.... Don't want to die.' He thought, fingers twitching slightly. His breathing was close to flat lining. Each one getting softer and softer until he felt a familiar sensation. The same sensation he'd given Cherry before their escape. He felt the calmness and affection her heart held for him, the clarity and purity she held. Slowly opening his eyes, he saw her. Her hand planted firmly on his chest and a soft colored aura surrounding her being. Cherry held a look of deep concentration, clearly focusing on Amelio's wounds rather than his awakening. Amelio remained silent and watched as the wounds seemed to heal and close up, bullet fragments sputtering from the once bleeding holes. The fragments fell and crumbled into the soft grass. As the moonlight shone down between the canopy of trees, it hit Cherry's golden locks. Amelio's eyes seemed to lock onto her figure, her being and essence all at once. He'd never seen such beauty in anyone up until this point. "Cherry..." He said softly while placing a tired hand onto her's.

What had just happened? Cherry’s brain was scrambling to put together pieces that could make sense of all of this. She touched Amelio’s chest and allowed her energy to freely flow into him, knowing that’s exactly what she was supposed to do. Their minds were connected and that meant his needs were her needs. She could feel his pain and the wounds on his body as if they were her own. So as she focused on him ....she began to heal him. Yeah, she was weak after doing that. But it was worth it. Amerlio was worth it. He’d saved her and betrayed his family for her, just like she turned her back on hers. All she had was him. This amazing human being who found her drawing on a bench one day. Little did she know she’d meet her other half; her partner who would have her back and she would have his. When her energy had finished transferring to him she stood up and pulled Amelio to his feet by grabbing his hand and tugging back. She steadied him on his feet, placing her delicate fingers on his shoulders, and squeezed. Her beautiful eyes rose to meet his and for the first time, she saw him, she saw the real him. There was no more doubt, suspicion, or fear. She saw Amelio as her friend and someone she never wanted to let go of. In that moment of realizing how much he meant to her, she threw her arms around him and held him close. Hugging him with tears bottling up against her blue gaze. “I thought I was going to lose you!” she whimpered. Her head was buried into his chest and the wind pulled against her blond hair, pushing silky strands over her shoulders.

“Amelio, before we went into the portal I saw something. A vision. An army of evil that knew I could see them. They’re coming, Amelio, and I think they’ll work with your father to seek revenge on what we just did. We need to be prepared. Please! You must train me, Amelio! Help me fight using my powers.” She wanted to start now, but knew he needed time to recover, even though there was no time to waste. She could sense the darkness creeping closer to them and this made it hard to swallow that hard lump growing in the center of her throat.

The moonlight shown down on the two. The air was calm and held a soft breeze. The soft grass was comforting to the body. Amelio held a tired expression on his face. His brown eyes were focused solely on Cherry's. He didn't say a word, just stared deeply into her soul. Despite the silence, it was acknowledged by the two that despite the dangers ahead, they were safe for now. Amelio slowly raised his hand and placed it firmly on Cherry's hip, the other onto her cheek. Keeping his half-lidded gaze onto Cherry, Amelio spoke. "Cherry... Thank you..." Without another word, Amelio's eyes closed and soon he leaned forward. With a confident motion his lips pressed gently onto Cherry's. He planted a deep and passionate kiss onto her lips. One with powerful emotions and gratitude. Amelio's grip soon tighten as he held Cherry close into his arms. In all his years, he'd never felt so close to someone and for the first time in his life, he was safe. Slowly pulling from the kiss, Amelio opened his eyes and looked, once again, deeply into Cherry's. He kept silent awaiting her response.

She was ready to fight. To train. To practice and learn how to defend herself during a battle - but when Amelio leaned his head down she did not expect him to kiss her. Not like that. She froze under the weight of his lips, which were gentle, and to her surprise...she closed her eyes to feel the unexpected moment between them. Her palms found their way to his shoulders as one of his hands latched onto her hip. She took a step forward and brought their bodies that much closer, closing the distance between the two of them once and for all. For the first time in her life, she felt safe - as if she were walking on the right path. One Amelio laid out before her and one she was choosing to walk with him. When he broke away to stare into her eyes there was nothing but certainty waiting for him. Her blue gaze reflected back all the emotions he would want to see: trust, compassion, devotion with a mix of lust. She was bound to Amelio - spiritually, as well as magically. During this divine moment, a light blue aura floated around the two of them. As if the power of the universe acknowledged this sacred partnership and blessed them for taking a risk to bring good into the world. Cherry rose to her toes and kissed Amelio again. This time, she was the one to show him her gratitude. Her hands went from his shoulders to his face, where her thumbs caressed his cheeks and held him in a warm embrace. She’d inhale his breath as her own, and feel his heart against hers. The energy between them began to balance, and soon, Amelio would regain his strength from the intimacy being shown by her loyalty to him.

Amelio's body trembled slightly as he felt his vitality restore. Each moment he deepened the kiss with Cherry. His hands now resting on her hips before slowly running to the small of her back. Slowly pulling his lips from the kiss, Amelio opened his eyes and looked once more into Cherry's. "Cherry..." He called out her name, with a deep and sultry voice. "I..." He stopped himself from speaking and let the mood speak for itself. Amelio leaned into Cherry's neck, planting soft yet supple kisses along her skin. Each one slowly running its way up to Cherry's ear. "I want you." He whispered into her ear, as he pulled her body close to him. His hands now slowly trailed to her butt, giving it a decent grope as he pulled her close.

“Amelio,” she said as he kissed her - his lips felt like droplets of bliss, yet the timing wasn’t right. She was nervous about their future. Needing someone to train her and continue to build trust with. She felt as if they’d just experienced an avalanche of new revelations. Ones that terrified her. Ones she needed answers to. Her soul was warped with agony. Pain. Fear. The need to rise above and conquer the demons coming for them. For her. Even if he made her feel safe, there was more they had to do before she could be in a place where she could offer herself to him. She took two steps back until she was out of his grasp. The aura surrounding them soon dimmed until it was completely gone, leaving them to stand in the silence. In the chaos. In a world that had just been turned upside down. The only positive thing going for them, was their connection, and the love they had for each other. “I want this, but I need to figure this out first. With you. Please train me?” Her blue eyes looked into his brown stare, pleading with him to hear her cries for help.
