As you walk to the castle walls, you feel an eerie sense about. There are no people out, and it is almost night. You knock on the castle door. A butler, who looks like he’s seen better days, walks out. “Are you the adventurers?” he asks.

: "We are indeed, good sir!" He bowed with a flourish, "Please, allow us to speak with your master or mistress?"

“Ah yes i see the governor had made an appointment with you.” I will bring you to him now. He leads you down a hallway up to two large doors. “Wait here,” he says, and walks into the room. A second later he walks out. “He is waiting in here.” You walk in, and you see a man who looks like he hasn’t slept for a while. “Hello and welcome,” he said. “I have a job for you, if you will take it it relates to what is happening currently in our town.”

Rin looked on at the butler with clear mistrust as he looked glancing at his companions as it was clear that he didn't trust them either. "What is the job?" He asked the man clear and to the point his hands resting in his pockets where his two shortswords were.

“Well as you probably have know, children have been going missing for a while now,” the governor said. “We have been lead to believe that a rather small pack of orcs have been taking them. We want you to investigate, and if you find they are guilty, kill them. In return, we can give you 100 gold pieces.” We will provide you with food and rooms for your stay, and you can leave whenever you’d like.” He stands. “If you accept, the butler will lead you to your rooms.”

Grimaldi gasped, acting shocked and appalled, "Monstrous! Of course we can accept such a mission!" A brief pause, then, "However, I feel I must protest the pittance you've offered for us to risk our very lives to rescue these precious youths from surely dangerous foes that require..." He held up a finger in correction, "Nay, demand, the use of freelance adventurers instead of your own vaunted Guards." He held his hands out, as if beseeching. "Do you not agree that we deserve a payment more befitting of the task at hand?"

He paused for a second, as if thinking. “What did you have in mind? Do be sure that it’s reasonable. I’m not going to consider an unreasonable reward.”

He then added, “Upon the return of you alive, we will hold a banquet in your honor as well.” The governor looks around the room, then noticing Rin. “Oh get your hands away from that sword good sir. I’m not gonna hurt you.”

The jester-styled individual made a show of thinking, tapping the chin of the mask he wore. "Hmmmm....oohhhh let's saaayyy 200 gold?"

“175 gold is the most reasonable I will get. Take it or leave it,” he said in the most polite tone he could.

"Done!" Grimaldi replied with a nod. He then looked to his companions. "Now, if my colleagues have anything to add...?"

"Are you going to feed us while we're staying here?" He asked the butler hands resting in his pockets

“It would be rude not to, so yes,” he replied

after a long pause, he spoke again. “Then it’s settled then. My butler will lead you to your rooms. You can eat dinner, and rest here for the night. I recommend you leave early so you can catch them by surprise. The butler then shows you each to your rooms, and then, after eating dinner, you all gather in the main hall.”

From the back, the stout dwarf spoke in a heavily accented drawl. "Aye, sounds good to meh. I do hope theres a flagon of mead with that dinner, eh? And mebbe some for the road!" The butler escorted them to a dinner which, to Cieran's delight, featured mead. After his dinner, which mostly consisted of mead with a couple pieces of red meat, the dwarf walked a haphazard path towards the main hall where he looked for his fellow adventurers. "Eh, whats 'is then? Getting late here, dontche know I need me beauty rest?" The dwarf flashes a smile filled with yellowing teeth.

The room was eerily silent at Cieran's punch line. He scoffed - "Eh, hard crowd tonight eh? Well what're you lads here for, the adventure or the gold? Cieran eyed the rest of his party - two humans and a tiefling. Hard to tell if they were battle-ready or not. The silence persisted for another moment before Cieran burst out, "well if yer all mute its gon be a quiet trip! Fer the best, me mouth gets me in plenty trouble as is." @Indigo Cobalt @JackWhite @yello

Rin didn't bother answer Cieran's question waving him off as he looked around for his room. He had eaten in silence grabbing as much food as he could from the table as if it was the only food that he before he was still listening to the dwarf speak. "If you need beauty sleep then you should get some sleep already." The tiefling said rolling his eyes before he pulled himself to his feet. "I'm going to sleep." He told the man pulling himself to his feet and walking off towards his bedroom. (edited)

The human with the holy symbol around his neck and long silvered hair got to his feet, pushing his chair in behind him. He sighed a bit at the banter of the dwarf and paced over to him. From his height of 6'1", he almost seemed to loom over him. "...what is your name?" He said rather dryly, the tone in his voice barely wavering- and same with his stern resting expression. He wore medium armor and a finely crafted headpiece.

Everyone who is awake or meditating in the campaign tell me, and everyone make a perception check (edited)

All of the sudden, Soyer hears a loud thump outside… how do you want to react @yello

Soyer peered in the direction of the noise, raising a brow, before pacing quietly towards the exit, to look for the source of the noise. He waved the other two over before getting to a place where he could see what had occurred outside.

When you look outside, you see three hooded figures running away from the now knocked out guards. They wear black cloaks, and you can barely see them in the moonlight. You go back inside, then, still confused on whether it was your imagination, go to sleep. It is now the next day, and you three are at breakfast. Cieran and Soyer are still confused about what happened last night. The governor says, “Did you sleep well?”

"Aye, we slept well...if ye call sleeping with one eye open and yer hand on your axe sleepin well!" Cieran said with a grunt. "I thought this was a lawful town, whats this governor? Hooded figures in the night...if ye dont want me chasin after them next time, best fill us in on the lay of the land."

The governor, confused, gives you a map. “Well then. Here is a map that you can consult then. He points to a little valley on the map. That is where you will find the orcs when you choose to leave. I’m sorry you didn’t sleep well.” He says.
