A hard thud. The wind knocked out of her lungs. A strangled attempt to breath again.
It took a few moments, but Pryors lungs filled with air once again as she stayed fixated in her spot on the ground. Her eyes darted around the room, the stale scent of the carpet and offensively dull look of tacky yellow wallpaper filled her senses. The buzzing lights above blinded her for a moment, screwing her eyes shut as she rolled onto her side. A groan left her lips, her head pounding from hitting her head during the fall. “What the fuck..” Pryor grumbled to herself, resting on all fours as she tried to regain her bearings, her head hanging low. She was dizzy, disoriented, confused. How did she get there?
She had been walking home from a terrible first date. Donned in a light sweater, a black tank top, and a pair of light blue jeans, topped with a pair of sneakers she wore everywhere. It was late evening, the sun dipping below the horizon to give way to the darkness of night. Her mind was void of thoughts during that moment, her body on auto-pilot as she walked from the restaurant back to her house. The last thing she remembered was tripping over something she didn’t notice. She prepared to fall a short way to the ground, her hands in front of her face to catch herself.
Hello?
Pryor could hear someone else calling out. She scrambled to her feet, groaning once again at the pressure in her head. “Hello? Is someone there?” Pryor called out, taking a few small cautionary steps towards the sound of another person.
