The smell of fish and salt were prominent in the air as Captain Marina and her first hand practiced their swordsmanship. They both were skilled, though Marina was better. As the clang of their swords rang, the seagulls chirped and the men from neighbouring ships called out fo help and ordered other men around. Lots of ships were just coming back from a trip out to sea for fish and other edibles, yet Marina’s ship was only scheduled to leave later that evening.
Marina was distracted with her strokes through the air, thinking about paperwork she had to fill out or orders she had to give. She slices Derek’s cheek and his small grunt doesnt quite reach Marina’s ears as she swings her blade again and slices his hand, effectively sending the opposite’s blade flying through the air, only to clang to the deck a few feet away from the pair. “M’lady, distracted today? You never leave marks” he says, catching her attention finally. She says as he goes to get his blade,
“Yes, sorry. Have Collin stitch you up?”
Derek would respond, yet is interrupted by a lad named Oliver who was thirteen. His father worked with hers, and when her father died she insisted on taking him after his father passed, since his mother had died in childbirth.
“Ma’am, the princess from the castle wishes to come aboard to talk to you”
Marina lulled her response on her lips, thinking about her proper answer for a few moments. She finally says,
“Let her aboard, have Krake bring her luggage” Oliver nods and runs off to relay the message.
