Unbelievable! This was the third time that day the town’s drunk, Roo Roo, asked her for a kiss on the lips. She smacked him, hard, right across the face. Slap! “Now listen here, you fool!” Penny bellowed. Her hands were balled into fists and placed firmly on her hips. “If you try that again I’m gonna gut you from head to toe!” “Head to toe! Head to toe!” squawked a parrot nearby. Their red feathers spread as they flapped their wings. Penny went to grab the sword at her side, placing her hand over the hilt so if Roo Roo tried anything, she’d be ready. With her boot tapping the wooden boards of the dock she started to back up. Naturally, Roo Roo stumbled towards her with a sloppy smile and went to wrap both arms around her. But since Penny was quick on her feet she spun around, causing Roo Roo to fall into the ocean under the dock. Splash! Several people ran to the edge of the dock breaking into laughter as they pulled Roo Roo out. He laid on his back shouting for more rum, and Penny slipped off into the streets feeling confident she’d gotten rid of him once and for all. Under a patch of shade was her best friend telling jokes to a group of people for extra coins. She waited until he was done collecting the pocket change, then went up to him shaking her head while laughing. “I’ve got a new one for you!” she said with a big grin, “Why don’t pirates shower before they walk the plank? Because they’ll just wash up on shore later.” She knew the joke was terrible but she couldn’t stop herself. “Are you ready to pick out a ship? I think we have just enough money to get a medium sized beaute that’s fully stocked for the two day journey. I know a seller wanting to get rid of her “trusty” boat. Let’s go take a look?”

Trevor's comedic talents had never let him down. Sailing across the Atlantic had taught him a lot of pranks: making scary noises at night, defacing flags, putting a snake in captain's quarters, and so on. Not many knew about them, of course. Otherwise he would've been dead a long time ago. He was telling a joke when he heard Penny slap the dunkard. He was used to it. Men and women hit on Penny all the time. He knew the reason. He had laughed her off when he'd first met her. "Yeah sure, you're a pirate, and I'm the King of England," or something like that. He wasn't to blame, though. She looked like a noblewoman, not a pirate. Penny's joke made him chuckle. "Haha, nice one. Here's one for you: 'What do you call a pirate with two eyes, two hands, and two legs? A beginner,'" and laughed at his own joke. They had enough money to buy a half-decent ship. Trevor was especially picky when it came to ships. In his mind, they were humanity's greatest invention, and one had to take them seriously. After all, he couldn't have sailed across the Atlantic if it hadn't been for one. "Yes, I think we have enough money for one," he told Penny. "Do you know this seller? I don't want a leaky ship, my dearest friend."

Penny took her hand and patted Trevor on the cheek three times. “Yes, my dearest, and oldest friend! I do know the seller. We had a couple of laughs a few nights ago. Stand up woman.” Her hand made a thumbs up sign. “I have a feeling you'll like her. This is fate, Trevor!” She danced around him with excitement. “Destiny! A new beginning! Time for us to claim the treasure we deserve, and it’s out there, just waiting for us. For you, for me, for all the time we spent dreaming about this day.” This was all she ever wanted and no one was going to take it away from her. Trevor was the only person she trusted to go out to sea with. The water would be extremely dangerous. There were monsters in the depths of the ocean they would surely encounter. Other pirates, goons, mermaids! It was all too exciting. In the midst of her dancing, she grabbed Trevor’s hand and pulled him through the dirty city. People were drinking on every corner because the sun was out and there was nothing better to do. “This way! We’re almost there,” Penny exclaimed. “Who goes there?” said a burly woman. She wore a black hat with a white fluffy feather sticking out one side. There was a cloth patch covering one of her eyes from a deal gone wrong years ago. Her clothes were tattered, but clean, with strips of leather tied around her waist to keep her baggy blue pants up. “Ahhhhh, Penny! Ahoy! This way my girl, come see your new boat. Oh! Who's the good lookin’ fellow you brought with ya?” The woman hobbled down the dock taking them to a decent sized ship rocking in the port.

Trevor let Penny guide her through the streets. He was feeling blissful. While he was with Penny, and admittedly that was most of his time, he could just let his mind wander. He didn't have to think about his plans, schemes, ship repairs, nothing. He could just watch the world move past, and he would just observe. They had been planning for this trip for months. Trevor had to bribe pirates, barmaids, and even a few local priests for information. "Yes, dear Penny! Adventure awaits us. We're gonna be rich! Screw the world", he said, as Penny took his hands and danced around him. He moved his body in response, trying to mimic her movements. He was a great fencer, but couldn't dance properly if his life depended on it. The alleys were dark and Trevor could smell alcohol everywhere. This is definitely where a stand-up would live. That reminds... his thoughts were interrupted by a voice. A deep, gravelly voice. Trevor turned his head toward it. A tall, strong figure, wearing a black hat, looking at them. "Greetings, kind lady. I'm Trevor, Penny's friend. Penny told me about your offer, and I must admit, it was a quite tempting one", Trevor chuckled and followed the stranger and Penny to the port. He had seen better ships, but for the price they were paying, this one looked like a dream. "She's a beauty," he said. "Well done, Penny! I respect you even more now." He threw himself at her and gave her a tight hug. "Obviously, we're gonna have a closer look, but I'm impressed.''

The boat groaned in the water splashing against the dock. Rocking back and forth. It was a good ship. Sturdy. Reliable. Not the best, but not the worst. Penny took a leap of faith and jumped onto the ship from the dock. Her boots skid on the wooden surface of the ship, catching herself with one hand as she came into equilibrium with the boat’s movements on the water. She walked around the deck patting things with her hand as if she knew what she were doing. Mainly, she wanted to make sure there weren’t any hidden holes that would cause them to sink once they took off. Penny headed down to the ship’s hold and disappeared - shortly after she came running back up waving her hands at Trevor with excitement. “It’s fully stocked with food!” she was stunned, confused, and turned her attention to the woman selling the boat. “Is the pantry included as cargo?” Penny wandered over to the edge of the ship placing her hands on the railing. Her red hair swung in the wind, over her shoulders, and finally settled on her chest. “That depends,” said the woman with a wry smile. “On?” Penny countered, raising one of her eyebrows. “How much money you have!” Cheeky pirate. Penny grabbed a large pouch hanging off her belt and held it up for the woman to see, “This outta’ be enough. Now either cut us a deal or we’ll find someone else with a pretty boat.” “Alright, alright! I’ll give it to you with pantry for four hundred gold coins.” “It’s a deal!” Penny exclaimed and motioned to Trevor to join her on the boat. She tossed the pouch of gold to the woman, there were actually four hundred and twenty gold coins in there, and Penny wanted the woman to have it all. “Let’s go, Trevor! This is meant to be!” Penny grabbed one of the ropes hanging off the sail and swung herself around as if she were Tarzan.

Trevor eyed the ship for a while, looking for severe damages. He to be realistic. The price that was offered to them was almost too good to be true. Trevor watched Penny as she jumped onto the ship, her long red hair following her. She disappeared from sight after a while, and Trevor turned his head towards the strong pirate, who was also watching Penny. "Excuse me, ma'am, I didn't catch your name." "It's Abby, and yours is... er... dammit, Travis, right?" she said, with a slight embarrassment in her voice. "Trevor," he said, "but Travis is close enough," and let out a laughter, something he did when he felt awkward or uncomfortable. Abby looked even stronger now, with her arms folded and wind ruffling her hair. I bet she could crush me effortlessly. Better be careful. But careful wasn't his strongest suit. "I would love to buy pint some time, I bet you have many stories to tell," he said hesitantly. Abby looked at him sideways, with a frown on her face. Is it gonna be a punch in the face, or a kick in the balls? They stared at each other for a while. "Hahahaha, if you wanna get in my pants, there are easier ways than listening to me ramble on." She is friendlier than she seems. "Oh you had me for a moment there," he said, and they laughed together. They were still flirting when Penny re-appeared. He let her do the bargaining, and when it was done, he said goodbye to Abby and joined Penny on their new ship's deck. "Don't you think we need a crew? We won't last long on our own." He wished they could just set sail on their own. They needed coins to hire a crew, and they didn't have any, but he didn't want to let all their effort go to waste.

Damnit. Trevor was right. She walked around the ship patting down the wooden railing as if that would convince him they didn’t need a crew. Penny turned on her heel, leaning against the railing with her butt. Her thin brown leggings pleaded with the wind, brushing the fabric against her thighs and hips. She crossed her arms and stared out to the ocean. Sighing. Longing. Shoulders slumping. They needed more coins to make this happen… “There’s a motley crew at Rummy’s Tavern,” she said, tapping her fingers against her arms, “...we could go there and see if anyone wants to take the plunge with us? Promise them a cut of the treasure when we find it? Yeah...yeah! That could work!” Penny took Trevor by the hand and guided him back to the dock to figure this out. Abby was nearly gone and gave them each a look over her shoulder after counting all the coins. She was pleased with their deal, holding a big grin on her face before disappearing into the streets of the city. “We’ve got three hours until sunset...let’s head over to Rummy’s and see who we can find, maybe I can convince Rummy to give us some of his famous rum for our journey. I’ve brought him more patrons over the years than I should have, technically he owes me! What say you, Trevor?” The sun was beating down on them now, exposing the freckles on her nose and cheeks. Lightly dotted marks pricking her otherwise pale skin. Complimenting the red strands of hair that hung over her chest. The excitement for their adventure was burning in the color of her youthful eyes. Red wings soared over the air. The parrot craving Penny’s attention landed on Trevor’s shoulder and squawked. “Famous rum! Famous rum!” the bird said. This made Penny smile - and she took it as a good sign. @Mando

Trevor watched as Abby disappeared, listening to Penny's proposition. It was a sensible plan. Their only plan, in fact. "I suppose you're right. Hired men will do just fine as long as they aren't greedy and and can keep their mouths shut." They didn't want to compete with cutthroats and the navy, that was a fact. "Alright, then. Shall we?" Rummy's was originally a brothel of particularly ill repute. After the owner, an old smuggler and slaver, was killed in a squabble, the place was sold to Rummy for a cheap price. It was a safe place for the citizens and sailors to drown their problems and have a good time. "Not an architect's wet dream by any means, but feels like home," said Trevor. They moved their way through the crowd outside, some of them drunkenly singing with a bottle in their hands, some of making out with lovers. It would indeed have been a romantic scene if Trevor hadn't seen some filthy bastard pissing on the wall just before opening the door. Feels like home, all right. Trevor held the door open for Penny. "After you, dear," he said, and followed her inside. The whole place smelled of stale rum and sweat. The smoke was heavy, so much so, in fact, that Trevor's eyes started watering. He turned to Penny, who was looking for Rummy with her eyes squinted. "And this..." he couldn't hear himself. "And this is why I don't allow smoking below decks," he almost shouted. "Anyway, the guy knows you better than he knows me. I think you should do the talking." They kept looking for some time, unable to see anyone that resembled Rummy, and finally Trevor saw him. He tugged at Penny's sleeve. "There, the guy talking to a woman," he said. "Let's see what he has for us." @luxtheo
Avatar
“Oi, watch it!” Penny shoved a woman nearly twice her size out of the way. The broad had too much to drink and she’d spilled half her rum onto the floor, aiming to splash the other half onto Penny and Trevor with her stumbling and bumbling. “The only one who gets this guy wet,” Penny stuck her thumb towards Trevor, “...is me!” The tavern roared with laughter. It was busy for an early evening and Penny could hardly hear Trevor over the bustling commotion. She dodged a few more patrons trying to make a run for a quick exit, but they were scooped up by the pirates standing at the door. Hoisting them over one shoulder. “Into the cage with ya!” The culprits howled, pounding their fists on the pirates carting them off to the cages. That’s where people went when they couldn’t pay for their drinks. Penny had been in there once or twice herself. She headed in the direction Trevor pointed. “Rummy!” said Penny, tapping a large man on the shoulder with the end of her index finger. “Hey, Rummy! Don’t pretend like you don’t know me.” She squint her eyes so when the man turned around he was met with Penny’s usual come-and-fight-me expression. But it soon faded, transforming into a big smile.
12:44
“Penny!” shouted the man. He wrapped his big arms around her small frame and lifted her up. Weighing nothing. Squeezing her before setting her down. His scraggly uneven black hair hung around the sides of his unkempt face. A beard with three weeks of growth clouded his jawline. When he smiled, his mouth was lost within the hair. But his eyes did all the talking. Shining bright, and happy to see the redhead standing there. “I thought ye were goin’ out to sea?” he asked her. “I am! With this guy.” Penny pulled Trevor forward so they’d be forced to shake hands. “Listen, we need your help, we’re trying to set out but we need the he-” “And who are you?” said Rummy to Trevor, cutting Penny off mid-sentence. “A handsome lad, that’s for sure. One who needs a drink! THREE ROUNDS FOR MY SHINY PENNY!” shouted Rummy. His fist banged on the bar. The drinks came sliding down the counter and Rummy handed one to Penny, the other to Trevor, and held up his glass as if he were toasting - but then said nothing, and just started drinking. @Mando

Trevor watched as Rummy knocked back the rum with serious dedication, as though it was his last drink. He looked down at the drink in his hand. The colour was normal, and that was good enough for him. "Cheers, Penny," he said, tilted back his head and drained the glass. He wiped his mouth with his sleeve and put the glass down, his belly feeling warmer. "I'm Trevor, I'm sure we've met before, although not officially introduced." He was cut off. "Another round!" bellowed Rummy. "Thank you, kind sir. Although, we're here for business, and I'm afraid I can't partake, as Pe..." he was cut off again. "Rubbish! I don't take no for an answer. I discuss business while drinking. That's how it's done here," he said with convincing authority. So be it. I'm not the one to refuse free drinks, anyway. "Alright, then. If you insist." The three of them raised their glasses, but before Trevor could say anything, Rummy's glass was empty. Trevor took a leaf out of his book and drained his glass without toasting. "As you already know, we're about to embark on a rather long journey," Trevor said. He leaned in closer to Rummy and continued. "A potentially profitable journey, you see." Rummy's eyes widened a bit. "We're almost ready to set sail, but there's only one problem. We lack the reputation that many of your patrons have. Therefore, I was hoping we could come up with an agreement that would benefit us both." Rummy's sunken eyes were squinted now, staring at his lips as he talked. I hope he doesn't lean in for a kiss. Business and trade seem to turn certain people on. "We need you to provide us with a crew. A reliable crew. People who can keep their mouths shut, since we could do without competition, as I explained. And as for profits," Trevor continued "each member of the crew gets a share, and you will get five." Rummy's eyes grew even wider, his mouth hanging slightly open. Trevor looked at Penny with a smile on his face.
04:17
It was a fair and profitable offer, and Rummy was certainly interested. "You have a deal," said Rummy after a few moments of silence. "I only have 4 people at the moment, but I reckon that's better than nothing. Lemme go find them, I'll be right back. ANOTHER ROUND FOR MY FRIENDS HERE," he shouted, and left. @luxtheo

Oh, lord have mercy. Another round? Sure. Why not. Penny drank her first and second glass of Rummy’s famous rum with great pride and strength - meaning, she swallowed down the bitter taste and let out a noise, something like a loud exhale, once she was able to. Her vision watered. She brought her index and thumb to the bridge of her nose and squeezed as if that were going to help solve the case of stinging eyes. “Wow,” she choked out as Rummy disappeared from view. “You managed to get us a crew!” Penny finally got a few breaths under control. The feeling of warm excitement flooded her core. The alcohol was hitting her harder than she anticipated, but there was nothing wrong with that. Not when Trevor was around. He’d gotten her out of trouble more times than she could count. “Now let’s make a promise, if one of them tries anything fishy, we throw them over board.” Penny was only half kidding with Trevor. The truth was, one could never know what would happen out at sea. They’d have to stay on top of their game if they wanted this to go well, not to mention keeping a fair share of their profits. Penny was banking on the stories she was told growing up. The ones her father used to tell her about buried treasure hidden on islands that had yet to be claimed. Gold placed there for safe keeping, just waiting for someone like Trevor and Penny to come along and snatch it up.
10:38
It was all too grand. And Penny’s cheeks were a light pink from the increase of blood flow and adrenaline circulating throughout her body. Just when she thought to shake hands with Trevor, making an oath between them in order to survive, Rummy came barreling around the corner with four interesting looking individuals. The first was a man. He was short with mean brown eyes, and a bald head that gleamed under the dim pub light. His name, after being introduced, was Marius, who had experience with navigation. The second was a woman just as tough as Marius. Her long black hair swung against her back and she looked as if she could knock out anyone in that bar without hesitation. They called her The Brute - a story she said she would tell once they were out at sea. The third was a young lad with big dreams resting in those sweet green eyes. A slender fellow looking to make some extra change, but his real skill was in the kitchen. Penny liked him already. Though his name was Kaden, Penny nicknamed him Pillow, due to his soft and quiet nature. And finally, an older gentleman with his front tooth missing, so when he talked there was a slight whistle to his words. He couldn’t help much on the ship, but his fencing and knife skills would come into play in the event any of them needed protection. He went by the name of Rusty.

Trevor eyed the four new members of the crew. The four of them looked like they were robbed by a filthy beggar and were seeking vengeance. Not a fun group. Not fun at all. He sighed, already drunk, and took a swig from his mug. As they were introducing themselves Trevor lost himself in his thoughts. A mysterious bunch. Which one of them will we have to throw overboard first, I wonder? Trevor drunkenly tried to picture each of them tumbling from the plank, eyes wide, hands clutching at nothing. A despairing scream as they fell to their death, maybe? His lips curled up into a smile with that thought. The introduction was over, and so was his brief moment of fun. "It's pleasure to meet you all. I know the circumstances are not ideal and you don't know anything about our voyage, but I hope you understand our predicament," Predicament. I sound like an old twat right now, but this is my moment, and we all need to feel important and superior sometimes. "but it'll be worth it in the end, I promise." They looked at each other, and judging by the way the did, they hadn't known each other before meeting Trevor and Penny. A relief. The woman who had introduced herself as The Brute spoke. "I'm fine with your terms, but if I don't get paid," she gave a nasty grin with her front tooth missing, "I'll cut your sack and feed it to you." Oh my, that sent a cold shiver down my spine. "Noted, my fruits are yours if I fail to deliver on my promise. Trust me, you won't be disappointed either way," he replied. Rummy and Kaden chuckled, and a hissing sound was issued from the navigator. "You'll be taking your orders from me and Penny," and he put his left hand on her shoulder. She had always been a source of relief. "I suppose we have a deal, then?" They all nodded in agreement. "Excellent, we'll meet you at the docks tomorrow morning."

P: “Oh my, pearls, Trevor! It’s our song!” shouted Penny over the noise in the pub. Musicians stationed at the staircase began to play one of their favorite tunes. A man with an accordion huffed as he recited famous notes from a melody many pirates enjoyed humming or singing out at sea, called: The Four Rounds. “One round, the first one’s on me! Second round, those rum filled cups poured out at sea! Round three, don’t make me wait! Round four, this is our fate! Ho ho grab the bottle of rum, take it out to sea! Ho ho a bottle of rum, don’t make me settle, matey!” The tipsy individuals sitting at the bar swayed back and forth. Hugging each other. Singing. Everyone was drunk, including Trevor, who Penny grabbed onto and started dancing with. She stomped her boots into puddles of rum on the ground, splashing the liquid around them as the song continued, bumping into people - it was fun, and that’s just the way it went at Rummy’s. Their new crew stuck around for a few minutes, getting a glimpse of what they were in store for when it came to Penny and her singing abilities, before disappearing into the crowd reluctantly - and Penny was all smiles now that they’d finally gathered the right people to join them on their search for treasure. “Trevor! Sing it from the top!” She pulled him onto the bar, forcing everyone to snag their drinks in order to keep them from being kicked over, allowing plenty of room for Trevor and Penny to dance like idiots on the counter top. Rummy only encouraged this silly behavior, demanding another round be passed to anyone still sober enough to keep their eyes open. Penny’s red hair slapped against her back as she did a spin kick. Yeah! A spin kick. She thought she looked cool. In reality she probably looked like a total dork, but hey - it’s why her and Trevor got along so well. She threw her arms around his neck and used his large size to ground her while swinging to the other side of the bar, kneeling down in front of the patrons as she continued to sing the song as loud as possible. Her lungs were bursting. Her cheeks were pink. And thanks to Trevor, she was excited knowing that tomorrow morning...their adventure would finally begin! @Mando

The entire tavern was a big bright blur, and Trevor only had one person to blame. Damn you, Rudy. No, Rammy? Bloody hell. It was pointless. His senses were gone. There was a familiar figure dancing in front of him. He tried to look closer, but all he could see was an ugly painting left outside in the rain, blurred and muddy. There was no denying his mistake: he should have declined the last five drinks. And so, he decided to give up on trying to make sense of his surroundings and do what others were doing. Imitating the red figure in front of him seemed like a good start. His arms were flailing above his head, his legs making elegant circles in the air. Every movement was sublime, exquisite, and majestic. In his mind, at least. If anyone had been sober enough to notice, they would've seen a drunk mole kicking and thrashing around. But luckily for him, everyone was just as drunk as him. Who knows? Maybe in their minds, he really was a skilled ballet dancer. People started to fall asleep at the tables one after another.
06:31
Trevor snapped his eyes open. He couldn't remember what had happened the night before, but the terrible pain in his head was enough for him to realize. He lifted his head up and rubbed his sore neck. No one was awake, no one except Rummy. The old man was sitting at the bar, drinking something from a small cup. Penny moved a bit in her sleep, not far from Rummy. Trevor got up on his feet, trying to find his balance, and walked toward him with small steps. The sun was shining bright, and it was way past morning, and they were already late. "What are you drinking, old man?" Rummy gave him a sideways glance. "Coffee to help with the hangover. You want some?" Indeed, the unmistakable smell reached Trevor's nose moments later. "Sure, why not. Looks like we're stuck here for a while." Rummy put his cup down. "Coming right up." Before he got up, Trevor put his hand on his shoulder. "Thank you, Rummy", he said. "I won't forget what you've done for us." No reply from the old man, just a wide smile. Trevor could get used to partying, drinking, fucking, and wake up hungover the next day. After all, that was what most pirates dreamed of. But they had a long journey ahead of them, one they had spent a long time planning for it, and he wasn't about to give up now.

Something wonderful filled the air. Something delicious. Something...perfect. It was the only thing that could raise the dead - it was coffee. It was the sweet smell of beautiful coffee being brewed and God knew Penny needed it. “Oh, Lord…” she groaned. Her hand rose and fell onto her face, weighted down from sleeping on it wrong. “...I...am alive.” But was she really until that first sip? “Trevor,” she called out into the void. Her eyes were still closed, and that burning stream of sunlight hitting her face wasn’t helping. “...everything is so bright. Why’s it so bright in here?” “Someone needs a swim in the sea,” said a familiar voice off to the left. Penny opened one eye, looking in that direction. “You alright, Lucky?” asked Kaden, also known as Pillow, who seemed genuinely concerned for her hungover condition. “Lucky? Wha-...” Penny croaked. She needed water, and was surprised when Kaden handed her a glass. She swallowed down a large gulp and felt the rush of a cold momentum hit her chest. “Guess you don’t remember,” he chuckled, “you started calling me Pillow last night, so I named you my Lucky Penny. If it weren’t for you and Trevor, I’d be stuck here. You know what you need...a good breakfast!” Kaden slapped Penny on the back and took off.

When Kaden returned he shook his head, noting that Penny had fallen back to sleep. “You’ll feel better once you eat,” he said while waking her with one hand, and carefully handed her a plate of eggs, bacon, and fresh-cut fruit with the other. Kaden took a second plate of food over to Trevor. He leaned on the counter and sipped on a cup of coffee. “I’m going to head over to the docks and start prepping the produce for our departure. Marius, Kate, and Rusty are already there.” “Who’s Kate?” asked Penny with eggs falling out of her mouth. “That’s The Brute,” Kaden replied, turning over his shoulder to look at Penny. He grinned at her lack of grace and handed her a cup of coffee on his way out. “See you both there...” “How do you feel, Trevor?” Penny asked. She was smiling now, having had that first sip of heaven in a cup. Thanking God for coffee and its miraculous wonders - and Kaden had been right, the food did help. Her red hair was messy, but attractive, and scattered all around her face. “You look like you need a shower!” called Rummy from the back, to which Penny sniffed her armpit and nodded in agreement. “I guess I do need a swim in the sea!” Penny hollered. She put that on her long list of things she needed to do for the day. The day...yes! Today was the day they were leaving! Penny's eyes shimmered, now focused on Trevor, excited and ready to get the show on the road. @Mando

Trevor's eyes were shut as he was sipping his coffee, savoring every moment of it with ecstatic joy. He reluctantly opened his eyes as Kaden laid the plate in front of him. The smell of egg and bacon reached his nose, mixed with the aroma of coffee, making it even better than before. He was suddenly feeling very hungry. He gave Rummy a nudge with his elbow. "Do you want some? I can share." "Thanks, but I'll pass. I don't eat breakfast." Trevor shrugged. "Alright, don't know how you can resist, though." He put down his cup, picked up the fork and started to gobble up the food. He heard Kaden's footsteps behind him as he left, leaving the three of them at the bar. Trevor turned his head and looked over his shoulder. No one had woken yet, not even after their chat. He was deep in his thoughts when Penny asked him how he was feeling. "I'm not too bad. Still tired, but it's nothing some coffee can't fix." He turned his head back and picked up his cup again. "I must admit, 'Lucky' is a fitting nickname." He said as he was eating and drinking, "after all, it's been smooth sailing so far," he let out a heartfelt laughter. He drained his cup with a tilt of his head and stood up. "I'm going to the docks and see what others are doing. Join us when you're ready." He turned to Rummy and shook his hand. "We probably won't see each other anytime soon, so..." he suddenly felt a lump in his throat. "Thanks for everything, and farewell." He turned around quickly, and walked towards the door.
06:31
He felt a sudden heat of wave slap his face. The sun was shining bright, sending down rays from hell itself. Trevor put on his hat, its shade making him less miserable. It was almost noon, and the streets were buzzing with people. He headed for the docks with no particular haste. I wonder how long it will be before I get to see this place again. He passed the merchants, the city guards, the prostitutes, and the drunkards he had seen the evening before. A couple of minutes later, and he could see the tall masts and the white sails. He could already see their ship, and a couple of tiny figure moving aboard. As he got closer, Kaden noticed him and waved. "Everything good?" Trevor shouted. "Aye, we checked the galley and the supplies. All good." "What about water?" "2000 gallons." "Good, gunpowder and cannons?" "We have fifty barrels of gunpowder. The cannons are all fine, except one. Brute's working on it." The ship had ten cannons, five on each side. More than usual for a small ship like that. Obviously, he wasn't complaining. "Good, most importantly, have you inspected the hull?" "The Brute's on it. So far she hasn't found anything." "Good, good." He went aboard and looked around, Kaden watching him. "She needs a name, captain." "I know. Let's wait for Penny, and we'll decide what to call her." Kaden nodded and got back to work. It was nice, actually, having someone do the work for you. He could definitely get used to it. All he wanted to do was swing an eyeglass around, wait for dinner, and get drunk. He decided to go to the captain's cabin and rest there before Penny arrived, since everything seemed to be going according to the plan.

By the time Penny made her way out of Rummy’s, she’d had two cups of coffee and given everyone inside the tavern a hug, even Roo Roo. Many of the patrons wished her well on the new adventure. Some of them cast doubt on her ability to find treasure with Trevor, to which she informed them all they wouldn’t get any of the cut when they did. Morons. Doubting them. Who did they think they were? It was all good fun. For the most part, everyone was supportive. Everyone except her parrot, who was making a big scene about having to leave Rummy’s tavern. The damn bird liked to peck at the crumbs on the floor. Penny offered the red-feathered creature a spot of cookie to get it to follow her then hustled towards the docks. Her red hair whipped over her shoulders annoyingly. No way could she leave it like this if they were going out to sea. She grabbed the strands and pulled them into a ponytail, which made it easy for the sweat to run down the side of her brow. How is it so hot out here already? Penny squinted towards the blue sky. It was a beautiful day. Hardly any clouds and the waves were rising and falling with the caress of a salty wind. Penny took this as a good omen. She jumped onto the boat they’d purchased and started unwinding the ropes that kept them docked. Kaden offered her another snack, something made of seaweed, to which she turned it down - the smell made her question its nutritional value and reminded her that she was still recovering from the night before.

“Where’s Trevor?” she asked The Brute. The strong woman made her way around the ship unfastening the sails. She pointed to the door off to the side then continued to prepare the ship. Penny ran into the Captain’s quarters with excitement. Red feathers followed after her as the parrot soared near her head. The bird swooped, then landed on a chair near Trevor. “We’re taking off!” she exclaimed and slapped a map down on a table. The parrot squawked, repeating her three times. The map was an old thing. Something her grandfather had given her as a child. There wasn’t much to it besides where they lived, the sea, and a few islands plotted off to the west end of the map. Naturally, there was a large X on one of the islands - and that’s where they were headed, or so Penny thought... She felt the boat rock and braced herself. They must have taken off. Penny looked up and out the window to confirm the town they were leaving behind grew smaller and smaller. “Did you ever think we’d be doing this?” she asked Trevor, sitting down in a chair that wasn’t occupied by her parrot. She scooted closer to where he was laying and grabbed the map off the table to study it in her hands. @Mando

"Aye, we are indeed taking off!" Trevor nodded. A thick carpet was covering the floor. Sunlight poured into the cabin and fell across his face. An empty decanter and four glasses scattered a hundred tiny rainbows on the desk. The only sign that the ship was sailing was the creaking sound issued from the wooden cabin. "To be honest with you, and I'm always with you," Trevor leered a grin, "I didn't think we could make it this far." He leaned forward, elbows on his knees, "and sometimes I can't help but think there's an invisible force guiding us, because, well just think about it. Every step of the way, every interaction with a shady merchant or pirate, could've been the end of us. I know I sound like a drunk priest right now, but I can't stop thinking about it. I shiver with anticipation at night, not knowing what's gonna happen tomorrow." Trevor puffed his cheeks. "Or maybe I just need a drink," he said, letting out a loud sigh, "yeah, I need a drink. I'll bring back a bottle." Things looked fine on the deck. The Brute was talking to Kaden, bragging about her strength while he listened patiently. The navigator was looking through his huge spyglass with his lips curled. Trevor looked in the direction he was looking, and all he could see was the endless ocean. He would ask about it, but he was still tired and hungover, and couldn't bother. He walked down the stairs to the hold and looking for a rum barrel. Penny was still studying the map when he returned. He put the bottle of rum he'd filled on the desk in front of her.

"Did you find anything interesting while I was gone? We just have to aim for the big X, right? Don't wor..." he started jokingly, but trailed off. Oh yeah, don't worry! The fucking invisible force will lead us there, just like how it jerks me off at night and wipes my arse every morning. Seriously, what the fuck was I thinking? Oh, well... He sat down at the desk, and started again. "There are no clouds today, so we get to enjoy the pleasant sun today. Would you like a drink?

Penny’s hand outstretched towards Trevor with five funny fingers wiggling in and out from her palm. Clearly, that meant: Yes, I would like a drink, please pour it for me and place it right into my grasp. If Trevor weren’t her best friend she would have handled the moment differently, but because she cared for him on a level others didn’t compare to, she felt comfortable enough engaging with him in this way. Plus, she was thirsty, and could use another drink now that they started their adventure at sea. She was eager when he handed her a glass of rum and finished ¼ of the beverage within the first gulp. Her face perked with intoxicated heat while an exhale hissed from her lips. The taste was a bitter sweet moment. “The big ol’ X is so...obvious! I mean, this map doesn’t tell us much, but I just feel like we’re missing something, you know?” She tapped the old wrinkly paper with her other hand as if that would help her find the missing piece to the puzzle. She brought the map up closer to her eyes and the paper grew thin in transparency with the sun beaming into the room. That’s when Penny saw something...unusual. She squint her eyes. Narrowing her focus on the ink drawings on the map. “Holy shit,” she said. She took another swallow of her rum and slammed the glass down on the table. Excitement claimed her features. Both eyes went wide as she ushered Trevor over to her side.

“T-trevor, come here!” she said, holding the map up in the direction of the light. Without warning Penny made a run for the window. She’d moved so fast she lost her footing and fell. The rum eased the blow of the fall and getting back up was a struggle, but she managed all the same. “Look at this!” Now the map was right up against the open air so the sunlight was directly hitting the paper. New drawings could be seen within the texture of the map, only visible when paired with the sun, which meant… “...we won’t be able to see this at night.” “W-what is that?” she asked Trevor quietly, her finger pointed to some sort of large aquatic creature swimming within the water, stationed in the middle of the map. The teeth drawn on the monster made Penny’s stomach drop. @Mando

Trevor stood up, the wooden chair creaking under him, and walked to the window where Penny was standing. Rays of sunlight stabbed at his eyes and he had to squint to see the map. Trevor's eyes followed the tentaculoid shapes in shock, and a few moments later, the wheels clicked. The figure had been drawn unusually large, and Trevor could only hope it wasn't drawn to scale, as it easily was twice the size of the nearest island. "Shit," he muttered. He tried to determine their whereabouts on the map, but fear had already paralyzed his mind. "You don't think..." but look on Penny's face spoke volumes. "I... I don't know, maybe whoever drew this map wanted to have his fun with sailors? Surely, nothing can be that big, right? We would have heard something about it. Plus, no one would use invisible ink to draw that if it were real." The made-up reasons would have been a small relief if Penny had said something, but she remained silent. Trevor turned around and reached for the bottle, poured himself a drink, and drained the glass in an instant. He wanted to wet himself, but he clenched his fists and decided against it. He focused on the familiar warm sensation spreading across his body and deep breaths instead. "We need to change course. I'll be right back."

He felt a cool breeze on his cheeks as he opened the door, which immediately turned into a gust as he started running toward the helm. He climbed the stairs and steered starboard. 20 degrees. No, to hell with it, 60. The ship started to roll, and the wooden boards creaked in pain. There was a bellow and a curse, and Trevor noticed Kaden for the first time, who had been climbing down the mast, a look of fear on his face as he hung on to thick wooden beam. Once his little maneuver was over, Kaden climbed down unharmed, though he looked pissed. "Sorry mate, it was an emergency," Trevor said. "Adjust the sails and gather in the captain's cabin after that. All of you. We need to talk." As he was walking down the stairs, he saw the navigator was still looking through his spyglass, seemingly unbothered by everything. As if our little struggles are far beneath him. Self-important little shit. He ignored him and walked toward the cabin's door. "Penny, are you better? You look a bit pale." He poured her a drink. "Here, this should help. Don't worry, I changed our course, I think we're gonna be fine. The crew will be here soon. We should think of a defense strategy, just in case. What do you think? Any ideas?"

The parrot echoed a familiar phrase, one that made Penny laugh… “She’s going to blow! She’s going to blow!” squawked the bird. “Hey!” Penny shouted, “I’m not anywhere near puking. I’m fine.” She reached out for the drink Trevor offered her and started sipping on it. Casually at first, then larger gulps as time went on. Her body slouched into the wooden chair while studying the map right against her nose. She squinted, as if that would somehow make sense of the markings on the map. Her fingers traced certain lines leading around the mysterious island. Occasionally she’d tap specific areas on the old paper, like where the sea monster was...that was definitely no bueno. “I honestly am not sure what we’re going to do if that thing is real,” she bit on her lower lip, raising her brow with unexpected curiosity, “...you still know how to doggy paddle, right?” The days went on and on like this. With Trevor pouring Penny some rum, and Penny drinking to her heart’s content. They laughed and joked about who would save who if one of them got knocked into the sea to fight the dreaded sea monster - Penny made several good points as to why she’d win, such as her ability to swim over strong currents, or her endurance to stay afloat over the crashing waves. They spent another week out at sea like this. Hiding the map from the rest of the crew and sneaking off to discuss their plan to find the hidden treasure. They had to be careful. At any moment, someone on the ship could turn against them, which is why Penny always slept with one eye open just incase someone tried to pull something shady. One night, when all the stars were out and there wasn’t a cloud in the sky, just a soft warm breeze rolling over the sea, Penny and Trevor were enjoying another round of who would save who when they heard a beautiful voice singing on the wind.

“What the-...” Penny held up her hand, cutting off her conversation with Trevor mid-sentence. It was a beautiful song. The etherial notes brought tears to Penny’s eyes. She got to her feet and headed towards the side of the ship, unsure of what she’d see once peering over the edge of the railing...
