I walk over, pausing to grab a dividers and protractor from the various objects he had cleared off the navigation table. I tsk my tongue against the roof of my mouth as I see the state of the map, and the various routes already drawn on it.
The map on the table is huge, the size of the table, allowing details to be shown. Working from memory, having studied the smaller map at great length, I set the tools I've already located on the table and look around for a pen and ink.
I return to the table and study the chart again, taking up the dividers to measure distances and marking a point on the map. I write a set of coordinates under the point, then neatly lable it underneath. I step back, looking the whole thing over again, then sigh.
"This map needs updated, Captain. I need a list of coastal towns, with coordinates. I'm not as familiar with this area, not enough to map here with accuracy. Then ill need red and blue ink, as well, and so I can transfer the historical points from the empire map. They most likely won't exist anymore, but having them for reference is a good idea."
I step close to the Captain and reach over the table with the dividers to measure from the point he had indicated. There is no town marked on the island you'd pointed out. Frowning, I bite my lip and glance at him.
"Whatever town is here, it's newer than this chart. What's it called?" I ask, quickly becoming engrossed in the work. The navigation table, designed for men to stand at and work comfortably, is conserably tall for me. I almost have to. Climb up onto the table to reach across, as it is, I have to hop up and reach, laying across the tabletop, legs dangling with my feet dangling above the floor, to reach the point you'd indicated and measure to another point, where a port is already labeled.
