The bickering was starting to get to Marc, the pack’s leader and Louis’ older brother. He stopped in his tracks and turned to face the two of them. “I’ve had enough of you two. Louis, I know you’re nervous, but that’s your job, your instincts talking. You’re our lookout, so it’s prudent of you to be on alert. However, you need to learn to control it and accept that the decisions I make are final.” Fleur had a little smirk, and Marc gave her a look that all but said he’d smack it right off her face if she didn’t stop. “And you, Fleur. Just because I agreed with you doesn’t mean you get to have a snug air of superiority. You’re the beta by necessity, not because I chose you. You need to step it up, because we’re not going to be this depleted forever… I know this is new and hard for both of you. I get it. I don’t like it either. But right now, we play the cards we’ve been dealt. We’re here to protect this land, and right now, there’s something potentially very dangerous. Our parents would have wanted us to do this. Now… let’s go, and keep your fucking mouths shut, okay?” The two of them avoided Marc’s gaze but nodded. Satisfied with that, Marc turned and continues towards the house.
When they arrived, they kept their distance, standing on a small hill that overlooked the property. The stench of death was so strong that it was nearly nauseating, and yet, all they saw were two people, younger by the looks of it, unpacking their car. Everything seemed to be normal, other than the fact that it was the dead of night, beneath a nearly full waxing moon. “What’s going on here?” Marc muttered tu himself.
