Lukas tilted his head as Andrew answered him. “You are strong though. And their approval doesn’t matter.” Lukas responded before leaning back against Andrew’s chest again. “I approve of you.” He added, still watching the screen as the dinosaurs started escaping their habitats. Besides, his family already liked him plenty, couldn’t the other see that? Lukas thought it was obvious…
Then suddenly, in a single second, everything went pitch black. Lukas’ eyes widened as they tried to adjust and he immediately sat up, losing complete contact with Andrew. Taylor and Lily both screamed, expected, but still obnoxious. Judith couldn’t see, but she still tried to get up. “Alright alright, let me see if I can find some candles.. Lukas, help me out, hun.” Lukas looked in the general direction that he could hear his mom, and even though he couldn’t see her, he tried his best. He felt his way off the couch. His eyes still weren’t adjusted very well. The most he could see was when lightning would flash every now and then. Lukas attempted to make his way out of the family room, planning on grabbing a candle from the closet in the foyer.
Even this part of the house was dark, and he attempted to stay along the wall in search of the closet. It should be here somewhere.. The whole time, he tried to focus on this task, but slowly, the anxieties and fears he’d had as a kid were rising in him. He’d never been a fan of the dark, and even though it was childish, he found it hard to not be scared of it. What could be hiding in it. Being suffocated by it. A few moments passed. It seemed like he’d lost himself entirely in just the one room.
Now almost completely lost in the darkness, he started to panic a bit. Was he even going the right way? He was sure the closet would be right there! He kept moving along and finally, his hand landed on it. He opened it and went to step in, but at this point, he couldn’t focus anymore. He kept looking over his shoulder to find nothing but pitch black.
