Another soul was soon to come in. They knew that for certain. The greenish light in the sky instead of the usual teal blue. The dark hued blue coating within the black sands of the edge of this world. The stillness in the air. It was as telling as clouds in the sky indicating rain. They knew it wasn't going to be easy getting them to adjust. Unfortunately most people come into an afterlife expecting a heaven or a hell. Some are disappointed. Some are relieved. Most are too confused. Most don't seem to care for the person standing before them once they found themselves here. Not that they were one to care all that much. They were used to it, and knew from the world that they were used to, they wouldn't expect a face such as theirs to greet them. Skeletal, dark grey and nearing 7ft in height. They understood that they looked imposing. Terrifying, even. Few souls attributed to calling them similar to a 'lich.' They still didn't know what that meant. They themselves never had a name. They merely called themselves the Soulkeeper. Soul, perhaps, for short. They had a simple job in this place. To keep watch over the wayward souls who come into the afterlife. It was thankless, it was timeless, but it was their job. Their duty. Their purpose. A flash of bluish-green light indicated the flash of another soul to come in. Carefully brushing a handful of sand off of their outfit, they took a few, deliberate steps forward to see who was on the other side. They hoped the soul was not scared, but they had a feeling that was inevitable of them. Death always is a frightening experience.

Luci, didn’t remember much. He remembered his name, and that was about it. He had been floating in seemingly nothing, not afraid, not feeling anything about his death, this is what frighten him more. Luci started to try and move, to get out of this place, panic now closing around him. What the hell was going on? Why was this happening to him? β€œH-Hello?” He finally called out. His voice echoing through the voidish place. @𒀻 𒀼 𒀽 𒀾 𒀿 𒁀 𒁁 𒁂

The Soulkeeper heard the echoing call of the new soul. They could feel their fear within their voice, not surprising to them... This place was always a little daunting at first sight. Perhaps he could attempt to replace the black sand desert with something nicer in the future... Ah, nevermind it. Not the time right now. Slowly and with some notable apprehension, they moved to the figure in the distance. A smaller one, though quite a majority of souls were. They looked to be attempting to escape, something both easy and impossible. To go back to the land of the living was possible, but as your living coil? It was as impossible as the sun in nighttime. "I hear you, departed one. Do not be afraid, this place will not harm you. Step closer..." Their voice was soft, and echoed quite a bit with this place as if it was a naturally resonant chamber. The Soulkeeper's hands were clasped together, still like their body, and their hollow eyesockets gleamed that tealish colour similar to the skyscape around them. They only hoped that the new soul wouldn't do anything too rash.

Luci heard the voice of the soul keeper. He hesitated, but walked towards the voice. Luci flinched at the space around him, the black sand, and then looking up at the thing before him. Luci had pale pink hair, it almost hid his blue eye. He was wearing a purple, blue sweater, black pants. Luci was short, about 5’9”. His nails painted black, his blue eyes glanced around past the soul keeper. Was this really it? Why was he here? β€œWho are you? Where am I?” These were all normal questions. Luci didn’t remember much of his life now, it felt like missing pieces, and he didn’t know how he got here. His mind was telling him to run, but Luci stayed glued to the spot he was in. @𒀻 𒀼 𒀽 𒀾 𒀿 𒁀 𒁁 𒁂

The Soulkeeper calmly walked closer to the new soul and gave a slow, gentle bow. Their left hand gestured off to a large looking mystic forest to the eastern side, barely visible unless one focused on it. It appeared as though other small wisps of bluish energy were housed there. "I am one of no name, but my profession is timeless. I am a Soulkeeper." They spoke matter-of-factly, answering as if it was a teacher to a student. "Welcome to the afterlife. The Haven of Souls." Turning around, they gestured further outwards to a large and sprawling looking city of multiple styles of architecture even further off in the distance. There was Roman, Greek, Japanese, Mongolian and even Victorian buildings dotted randomly around this wayward city, cloaked by the forest. Was it endless? It was difficult to tell. "I understand that you currently still hold spare fear in your heart, having died and been sent here. I won't force you to walk alongside me, but I advise you to follow me either way..." They slowly walk up a small black sandy dune, head craned up slightly to look at the sky wistfully. At the top, however, they stop and turn back around, hands behind their back. "Though whatever you do... I would appreciate it if you told me your name in return."

β€œI’m.. I’m Lucifer. Luci for short.” Seeing the Soulkeeper had started moving, Luci followed quickly. He was nervous, trailing behind. β€œDo you know how I died..? Why I don’t remember anything..?” Luci asked softly. He wanted to know, but at the same time, he was afraid to know. His left hand holding his arm instinctively. Something he use to do when nervous. @𒀻 𒀼 𒀽 𒀾 𒀿 𒁀 𒁁 𒁂

"Aha. You have a unique name, departed one. Lucifer. Light-Bringer, in your latin languages on earth." The Soulkeeper rolled their hands a little as they idly talked, speaking for a while on a small tangent. It was quite obvious they weren't nearly as introverted as one might think. No social butterfly, but no stranger to banter and discussion. "How interesting it may be, that a god's most beautiful creation be his first cast out, simply for rebellion. Many mortals prove more patient than the biblical variant, no? Hm... Apologies. I... Tend to take my thoughts across the ether too much." Soul quickly guided Luci to the forest, which appeared to house the spirits of dead animals too. Certain animals like dogs and rabbits, as well as cougars and elk, even reaching lions and wolves. They all seemed docile, though a little jittery at a new present soul. "Ignore the bestial souls. They're territorial, unused to the afterlife to some degree. They will come in time." They stopped upon being asked that question, turning back to Luci and raising one hand. Gently, they placed three fingers upon his forehead, essence a deeper blue for the duration of the contact. Removing it, they answered. "You were slain. Shot, while you were not looking. Unfortunately I cannot state the murderer's name. Only the grim reaper may know of such information. Unless you were to look back in the past yourself... Though, there are certain complications involving such a thing."

β€œWhat kind of complications?” Luci glanced around the area. He now stayed closer to the soulkeeper now, watching the animal souls. Luci didn’t flinch away when he felt their fingers on their forehead, but fell silent. What did this mean? Why did he die? Luci glanced down at the floor now, lost in thought frowning. He looked at his hands, his skin pale now, he felt restless with this. β€œAnd, where do I go from here?” @𒀻 𒀼 𒀽 𒀾 𒀿 𒁀 𒁁 𒁂

The Soulkeeper frowned internally. It was good sometimes that their emotions couldn't be seen externally; the last thing they ever wanted to do was unsettle their people. People in a metaphorical sense. of course. They had no tangible body, save for the transparent visage only truly visible by all in this place. "There are quite a few complications with travelling through to the past. For one, nothing and nobody can see you. You'd only be able to touch things in the faintest of ways," The Soulkeeper tried their best to explain, racking their mind to try and remember the last person brave enough to try. Exactly 62 years ago today, and they... Never came back. "As well as this, some souls in the eh... Mortal world lose their grip on reality and life as a whole when they become souls. Some lose their sanity, become irrational. Murderous, even. Things like Yurei, Onryō and Wraiths are somewhat apparent threats... And on top of that, there is the grim reaper. Though they are a benevolent soul, if too much ethereal energies are sensed and conglomerated, they will be forced to permanently banish anything suspected to be causing such issues." The Soulkeeper sits down cross-legged by a hillside, watching the various animals skulk along the place and get into playful fights. They couldn't kill eachother under this place's protection, luckily, so it was a harmless spectacle. "As for now... You are free to spend your days here, among the other souls. You can spend your time among the beasts. You can even spend your time with myself, if you still seek guidance. Or, you can travel to the mortal world, if you are prepared."

Luci sat down, he had now became quiet, worried. The soul keeper now left him with more questions. He sighed softly looking as the playful fights happened. β€œI think I’m.. Going to stay with you. If that is okay.” He didn’t think that he was ready yet. The idea of disappearing was, somehow, more terrifying then the fact Luci was dead. All emotions seems to well up in him all at once, but he didn’t know how to express it.

The Soulkeeper nodded, perfectly content to spend a few more moments with this Lucifer individual. Luci, they said. Such a young soul, cut down in their prime by some ill deed. Though they've seen a lot of people come and go, the heartbreak of those who didn't realise their demise always... Tugged at them a little more than they'd care to admit. "But of course," Stretching out a hand, they gave a gentle bow and pointed with their spare one to a large looking, teal-wreathed spire, far off in the distance. "My home lies there. Some call it Death's Finger. I merely call it my workshop. Perhaps I can take you there, and you can tell me more about yourself. I always enjoy a good story." They weren't exactly sure how much they remembered. They looked dazed, a little lost. Not just in this place, but in themselves. The Soulkeeper had seen such a loss before, sometimes it was something that lasted forever. Torn from the mortal coil is a daunting thing. They promised in silence that they wouldn't allow such a loss to occur again. At least, they hoped it would be that way.

β€œAlright.. I think I can do that.” His voice was soft. He now seemed to have a better grasp of things, knowing he had somewhere to go. Though what truly troubled him was that his memories were fleeting. Luci sighed and got up. Had to get up, it felt weird, his body didn’t feel tired, but his mind was lost. Like he needed rest, but physically it was pointless to have rest. β€œI.. Can always try and tell you the things I know.” @𒀻 𒀼 𒀽 𒀾 𒀿 𒁀 𒁁 𒁂

Without another word, The Soulkeeper set off, across the black terrain and lush pseudo-landscapes of this place. There were quite a few to mention. The forest, the desert, something akin to a savannah, a lightly snowing plain, and finally... "Ah, my workshop. My own place for contemplation." There was no door, no conceivable way to enter. It was just what seemed to be a giant spire of stone that was wreathed in that strange energy. Yet, with a calm noise that could possibly be mistaken for a breath, the Soulkeeper walked into, and through, the stone exterior. Almost as if it was never there. "Oh my, how rude of me to forget. You are incorporeal. You may walk through solid objects by focusing yourself." Some silence passed, and the Soulkeeper came back outside, offering a hand to Luci with a calm demeanour. "It's... Tricky at first, but soon it'll feel just like moving through water. If you've ever swam before, it's hardly any different, and you don't end up wet." The hand was outstretched to Luci in case they needed it, the Soulkeeper's hollow eyes almost feeling soft even though they weren't there at all. This place felt daunting, yet safe.

Luci firmly took the Soulkeeper’s hand. He trusted the mysterious entity, it was hard to tell why though. Luci felt weird going through the wall of the workshop, indeed it was like moving through water, but it felt heavy and thick. Upon entering the spire, Luci looked around wide eye. He gave a soft smile though, glad that he had that feeling of safety. β€œThank you for bringing me here. You said it was your workshop? What do you do here?” @𒀻 𒀼 𒀽 𒀾 𒀿 𒁀 𒁁 𒁂 (It’s okay! The workshop itself was quite spacious and strangely organised, resembling an old clocktower with the strange gear-like devices and constructs lining the walls. It was not exactly disorganised per say, but not all too clean either. There were spare materials and strange hollowed-out wisps around the place, as well as what looks to be a couple of artificial looking humanoid bodies kept upright by metal stands. They don't look to be alive just yet. The Soulkeeper steps over a small arcanic looking floating gemstone as he explains. "Yes, eh... Do pardon the mess. It's always strange to people; the immortal keeper of souls not being the most... Surgical when it comes to their work. This place is what I'd most confidently call my home, my resting place... Even if I don't sleep." Slowly, he grabs one of the hollowed-out wisps and ponders it while moving slowly to some of the humanoid bodies. "Forgive me, it must be strange for you to witness... Rest assured, I have not harmed any humans here. These are merely a... Pet project I have. You see, sometimes when a ghost kills a human, they hollow out the soul and leave them a husk. This wisp is an example of a husk. As such, I've been spending centuries trying to fix this problem. To... Artificially reimburse a soul, if possible. So far, it has not worked all too well..." Their head looks down, and they place the wisp next to a body. "Apart from that though, I mainly attempt to work on the arcane, slowly improving the Soulplains over time whenever I can. I... Have hope it is going at a steady pace."
