Leslie price, a world famous chef, people from all around the world came to get even a small taste of her cooking. Celebrities and civilians alike gracing her restaurant and bringing it the life it's known for. Despite this all, Leslie was humble, she would never call herself famous, would never say she's the best at what she does. She always just says she good at best and leaves it at that. Rolling her eyes whenever someone called her famous, reminding them that she didn't like that word. Leslie walked into her restaurant, letting out a deep sigh as her eyes traveled over the dining area that in just a few hours would be bustling with life. Although Leslie was busy- running a business wasn't the easiest thing after all- she still liked to open the restaurant herself, she liked the peace it brought, giving her even just a few minutes to forget about her responsibilities and feel like just an average person, one who doesn't have the weight of a business on their shoulders. Today though hopefully things would become just a small bit easier, today was the day her new assistant was starting. Leslie never wanted an assistant, but once her workload got too high she decided she needed one. She had turned down countless applicants, most of them either wanting to interact with celebrities, or they were in it for the wrong reasons, that changed when Eileen came in, her application was everything Leslie was looking for and more. The perfect fit.

Leslie soon broke out of her thoughts, starting to take the chairs off the tables and put them on the polished floors of the restaurant, the music playing through the speakers that were on the ceiling. Eileen was coming in earlier than opening today so Leslie could run her through everything. When Leslie glanced at the time she realized it was almost time, unlocking the front door and making her way to her office. @Deleted User

Eileen had been searching for a position for months. She would spend her free time clicking through job posting sites, browsing ads and applying. Her resume was tweaked and submitted to countless companies. ’Thank you for applying. We appreciate your interest. Unfortunately, we have decided not to move forward…’ It was never-ending until she was given a chance. Eileen was surprised to be hired by a world renowned chef. She was excited. This would open new doors for her future and give her experience within the restaurant industry. It was the morning of her first day. She pulled out her nicest button up blouse, freshly ironed pants and a pair of flats. It was important that she made a good impression. The commute was short, by public transit. Eileen sat nervously on the bus and felt an uncomfortable, churning pit of anxiety in her stomach. She didn’t know what to expect but knew everything would be okay. At the stop she quickly shuffled to the front and down the steps to meet the concrete sidewalk, and began to walk toward the restaurant. She pulled the cold metal handle of the door and stepped inside. It was quiet. She glanced around the room, waiting patiently to see if someone would meet her at the entrance. @Eli

On the security cameras Leslie saw Eileen enter the building, standing up from the chair before slowly making her way to the entrance, her polished flats clicking softly against the floor as she walked, once she got the entrance she walked over to Eileen. "You must be Eileen, the new assistant" Leslie spoke in a kind voice, the soft tone was evident, she knew how hard the first day at a job could be, she had done it herself before, so she wanted to make the woman as comfortable as possible. Holding her hand out to shake. Leslie was unlike anyone expected her to dress, a black turtle neck tucked into a pair of black jeans, the opposite you would expect from someone who ran their own company. But she did have to cook all day after all, she couldn't cook well in a pair of heels and slacks. She was impressed by how professional Eileen dressed. Her eyes trailed over the woman, her brow quirking up. Most people she hired, both as chefs and as reception staff, usually came in dressed like they just rolled out of bed, this was a very pleasant change from what she had become accustomed to. "Thank you for showing up so early, I assure you not all of your shifts will start as early" she said simply, giving Eileen a quick, but courteous nod. "We can go to my office and go over your job responsibilities as well as give you your company phone and laptop" she began walking off towards her office, looking over her shoulder to see if the woman was following her.

Once she noticed she was, Leslie began walking toward her office, holding the door open for the woman before making her eyes around it, sitting in her office chair as she motioned for the woman to sit in the one infront of the desk. @Deleted User

Eileen swallowed nervously and nodded. “That would be me.” She reached out gently to meet the handshake. Her eyes scanned the room. The decor was impressive. Everything was sleek and had an inviting design. The floors were clean and spotless. She followed behind the woman to the office, and took a seat in the chair. “You have a lovely business,” she mentioned politely. “How many years have you been here?” Eileen was surprised at the fact that she would be receiving her own company electronics - her previous employers had shared devices that stayed in the building. It was then that she began to worry more. Would she be skilled enough to handle this? She waited patiently for directions and the paperwork. Eileen had only been in New York for a month. She was from a small town in Georgia. The bustling and unpredictable environment of the city was vastly different and she hoped she would not regret uprooting her life to move. Change seemed to be the only way every day would feel less stale. Her family was hundreds of miles away and she knew close to no one, with the exception of two neighbors. @Eli

As if noticing Eileen's nervousness Leslie gave her a warm smile. "Why thank you, we've been open for around 3 years now" she spoke, reaching into a drawer in her desk to retrieve the electronics, setting a laptop and a phone carefully infront of Eileen. "These are just so it makes it easier for me to be able to keep in contact with you when you aren't in office. My contact and email have already been added to both, you also have access to the company email should you need to get a message out to all the employees and not just me" She slowly pulled out a paper, it was just one page, a few simple agreements that she would use the company electronics strictly for use of work, along with her hours and a few other small things the two of them had agreed upon, this was a learning process for both of them, Eileen was new to working for Leslie, and this was the first time Leslie had ever hired an assistant. Leslie wanted to reassure Eileen that there was nothing to be worried about, so she decided to strike up a conversation that one would expect to have with a new friend. "So what made you decide to move to New York?" Leslie had done a background check prior to Eileen coming in, the standard process for new hires, so she used that to hopefully start a conversation the woman would be more comfortable in. @Deleted User

Eileen nodded and glanced over the paperwork. It looked simple. She filled in her phone number, email address, and so on - until she got to emergency contact. She didn’t have one. She decided to skip it and leave it blank. She left her signature on the lines of the agreements and once completed, cautiously set the pen aside. “I needed change in my life,” she explained. “I come from a place where everyone knows each other’s business. Nothing really happens there. It was time for something different.” Eileen smiled and folded her hands on her lap. The brisk autumn air outside that morning was one difference of being further north - it would soon be her first full season of snowfall. Along with the new foods to try, places to shop, and bustling streets, Eileen knew that she would be in for an interesting stay in the city. It would have been easy for her to tell her whole story. She was a social individual who always had something to say once she got to know someone. It might not be the best habit. “Can you tell me a bit more about all of your expectations?” @Eli

Leslie watched Eileen skip over the emergency contact, wondering if it was just because she moved away or if she truly had no one, the thought made a pang of sympathy run through her body. She listened to Eileen's explanation, nodding her head softly. "Well that's quite a big change, I hope you are adjusting to our city as well as you can" she added. Leslie had lived here her whole life, she was used to it, but she could imagine how overwhelming it may be for someone who was new to town. "As for expectations there isn't much, I don't want you to do all my work for me as that's not what you signed up for, nor what you're here for" she started, debating her next words. "I truthfully just expect you to do what I ask, there won't be a lot, but things such as looking over paper work before it makes it way to my desk to be signed, looking over business plans I send your way, as well as looking into possible investors are all things that may end up coming up" she explained, putting it into words Leslie felt she was asking a lot of Eileen, she knew in comparison to other assistants jobs that wasn't a lot, but Leslie felt as if she was piling too much on the woman. "If that's too much I can always adjust what I expect" She wanted to add that olive branch, Leslie was always very accommodating with her employees, she didn't want this to feel like a job for them, rather something they could enjoy- or even tolerate- doing. @Deleted User

Eileen listened carefully, thoughts raced through her mind. She’d certainly be able to handle it. She needed to be confident in her answer. “Of course. I can definitely do all of that.” She insisted. She appreciated the fact that piles and piles of things to do at once would not be handed over. Eileen could only hope that this would work long term. She aimed to be agreeable and hardworking. “One last question. Do you cater to, or host events here? Will there be any deliveries to be made?” As the late morning progressed Eileen had accomplished the task of adding important people to the list of contacts on the company phone, such as her new coworkers and the names of suppliers. She also set up the station she would be seated at during the day with a case of fresh pens, notecards, and a stapler. It wasn’t likely that anything out of the ordinary happened on a shadowing day. Eileen was nervous to meet the rest of the staff. What would they all think of her? She was only an outsider. Before she made the enormous move, Eileen’s family tried to instill the fear that maybe she would become drowned out. ‘I’ll be waiting for you to come back home,’ they would tell her. When everybody was already acquainted it would be a daunting task to fit in.

“We do host events when they are requested, we also offer delivery, though that is shut off on weekends purely to give my workers their days off” she replied simply. Giving the woman a small smile as she crossed her hands in front of her. After they had got everything squared away Leslie began showing Eileen around, making sure she knew where all the important rooms were, such as the event room and her own personal office. It wasn't large by any means, but it was enough to provide Eileen with a comfortable work space. Leslie soon checked on Eileen to see if she was settled in, popping her head in the doorway with a gentle knock. “The rest of the team just got here if you would like to come meet them” she offered. Taking the opportunity before the restaurant opened to be able to get Eileen familiar with the people she would have to work closely with. Once she got confirmation she began leading the woman to the conference room where they all met before opening. Getting the game plans ready for the day. As Leslie stepped into the room everyone quieted down, all conversations being halted in her presence. “Everyone, this is Eileen Bailey, I expect you all to give her a warm welcome” she spoke, her tone losing all softness, now speaking with the authority you would only expect a business owner to use to command respect from their employees. She watched as hushed whispers were traded around the room. Looks that were anything but welcoming thrown in Eileen's direction. That alone made Leslie's eyes narrow, did they not hear her the first time? She looked at Eileen out of the corner of her eyes to gauge wether she would have to step in or not. @Deleted User
