Eden had spent the last ten years of her life in this city. In that time she'd quickly grown accustomed to the sights, the sounds, even the smells of certain areas.
Like this cafe for example. She'd been here more times than she could count once she'd found it. It was a cute spot, popular, but not in the way that the chains were. The people who came here were regulars, she recognized a few of them and had even exchanged pleasantries on more than one occasion.
She knew the barista who usually took her orders name was Derek and greeted him with a kind smile whenever he was working. There was a new guy too, she hadn't caught his name yet, he didn't seem as open but then again not everyone is looking to make friends with all their customers.
Today was just like any other day, she'd rode her bike to the cafe, cross body bag in slung over one shoulder with everything she'd need for the day. Camera, book, wallet, and a bottle of water, the usual. After she'd locked up her bike she went inside to order, deciding on a dirty chai with an extra shot before she got cozy and started reading.
She'd recently picked up 'Les Fluers du Mal' The flowers of evil, she'd heard it had sparked a large controversy back when it had originally been published and couldn't help herself.
If only she'd known the irony of reading that book with the eyes that had been following her since she pushed open the door.
