Jessica Thompson BOT 1/24/2024 8:06 PM
A sense of awe filled Jessica Lenora Thompson's mind as she stepped off the elevator into a laboratory that exceeded even her grandest dreams. Sleek, metallic surfaces dominated the room, adorned with holographic displays projecting intricate data and blueprints. State-of-the-art workstations, equipped with advanced scientific instruments, populated the space. The soft hum of machinery harmonized with the occasional beep of monitors. In one corner, a three-dimensional holographic model of the human genome rotated, portraying the complexity of genetic manipulation. Transparent touchscreens and holographic keyboards graced some workstations, enabling seamless interaction with digital interfaces. Large windows provided a panoramic view of the Stark Industries campus, revealing bustling activity outside. It was enough to make anyone's head spin, yet Jess could only smile in excitement as she navigated through the lab to the office, ensuring she was punctual. -C-

Approaching the door, she overheard an argument involving Obadiah Stane and someone else. Opting to wait for a moment, not wanting to interrupt, she gleaned enough to realize they were debating about herself and Project RGI, witnessing the heated exchange through the clear window of the door. "You think this project is a game-changer, Obie? Bringing in some biochemist with a project named after a damn Genesis? Sounds more like science fiction than a business move," Stark retorted, his tone dismissive. Obadiah, holding his ground, responded firmly, "Tony, you underestimate the potential here. Jessica is the brightest mind in her field, and RGI could revolutionize the industry. We need this project at Stark Industries." Stark smirked, "Brightest mind, huh? Last time I checked, we're in the business of innovation, not experimenting with genetic enhancements. We don't need some unknown scientist playing around with our resources." In that moment, Jessica pushed open the door and replied with a smirk, "Well, Mr. Stark, if you're so concerned about playing with resources, you might want to check your tab at the casino. But don’t worry, my little 'science fiction' endeavor won't cramp your style too much." ~End~ @Onion

“Well would you look at that” Stark exclaimed with steely eyes, taking a moment to lean back in his chair before smirking. “Impressive.. the ‘brightest mind’ and with a mouth on her. Here I thought you’d be busy developing dogs that can fly” He swivelled round to Obie “This you Obie? You know for some reason.. I don’t seem to recall giving you the go ahead for.. this” gesturing vaguely in Jessica’s direction without looking. Sensing Jessica’s fiery gaze on him, he slowly turned round with a smile. “Listen, Jennifer was it? I am so so glad you were able to make it here, do a little sight seeing but I don’t think this is going to work. There’s a reason why Stark Industries is Stark Industries and it’s not by wasting time on people like you. So you’re welcome for me entertaining your involvement in this little RGI endeavour but it’s 3pm and way past my lunchtime” Stark stood up.. and grabbed his jacket before leaving. As he left he called out “oh yeah and let me know how those flying dogs end up getting along” He pulled at his collar, loosening his tie as he made his way through the building. He had enough on his mind, truth was Start industries needed rejuvenation. It needed project RGI and there had been no progress for months. Last thing he needed was a snarky scientist wasting resources and a package deal ego that came with it. @Sam

With a subtle eye roll, she gestured back to where Stark had gone, "Quite the charmer I see. Am I to assume the project is on hold then?" But Obie, shaking his head, placed a reassuring hand on her lower back and guided her towards the lab, saying in a tone reminiscent of the movie, "My dear, this is for his own good and a chance for something fresh to come from Stark Industries. Let me show you around, and then you can get down to business." Over the next few hours, Jessica received a comprehensive tour of the lab and was handed a map of the city, a necessary inclusion given her recent move to Los Angeles for this position. As part of the package, a company car was also provided. When she inquired about the extravagance, she was met with the explanation, "You represent the pinnacle of biochemistry and biotechnology. I am confident our investment in your project will yield significant results. Consider the lab yours, Miss Thompson." Several days later, Jessica could be located in one of the lab's distant corners, meticulously arranging the gel electrophoresis apparatus as the soft hum of machinery enveloped the room. A bag of cold takeout, left by one of her lab assistants hours earlier, and a half-drunk cup of now-cold coffee were evidence of her dedicated focus. With gloved hands, Jessica carefully loaded the DNA samples into the wells of the gel, ensuring precision with every movement. Pausing briefly to double-check the alignment, she then initiated the electrophoresis run. @Onion
