He would let her ass go the second he heard the sound of his mother.. His eyes stayed low as he would watch his mother talk to Reagan and he'd just walk over to his cupboard to pull out a simple shirt that he'd wear over some trousers.
He would notice that she let him exit the bedroom first and he would remember this small sign, as they would walk to the table.. She could have easily outed him but she also saved his honor.. These thoughts made him feel a slight unease about the fact that he had made her cry they found enter the dining room..
He would be quiet as always, he knew it was generally his father who liked to lead the conversation anyway as he would hear the exchange.. He found it distasteful, he believed in women empowerment and especially the right to education but if she was going to be his wife, it irked him that his father was the one giving permission.. But only once she was gone would be easier the concern,
"I wouldn't that stopped her from studying but she never asked me.."
His father would scoff and say,
"Typical. Did you even bother to ask?"
It hurt since he was right and he would bury his features as he would take another bite of the meal. His mother would chime in to say,
"It's okay son, it was just the first time you both met, it takes a bit of time.. your father was very suave when he met me but even he forgot to ask a lot of important questions.."
He would notice that it had been a while since she had been gone and he would push back his chair and say,
"M'scusi.. I'll go check on her.."
And he would reach the bathroom door, to knock, not saying a word, ahamed at his earlier behaviour, knowing that maybe it wasn't his face or hear his voice, that she'd want but he would knock, twice, in short raps, hoping to hear her unlock the door and come out..
