With a new school came the new worries of conformity, acceptance and achievement, however, not for Max Spencer. She had always been the top student in her class, one of the most friendly individuals in her grade and always seemed to get along with anyone who came her way. She wasn’t petty, she wasn’t spiteful and most importantly, she wasn’t a trouble-maker. Success and knowledge were the two things she strived for most in her life, especially after coming into her powers. Her academic career was the only thing that kept her parents happy now-a-days and if she didn’t continue that streak then she was sure they would rip her from the academy. Her parents were more than happy to keep her away from such magical inclinations, but she had convinced them that if she didn’t go she would be outted as a magical outcast, which terrified the family more. They didn’t want anything to do with that part of the world and when they shipped her off in her taxi, they wore the biggest smiles they had in months. As the Academy came into view, she couldn’t control her excitement! As soon as it came to a stop she jumped out of the vehicle and made her way to the trunk to claim her bags. She didn’t have any friends that went there, nor had she been able to attend any kind of freshman orientation, but arriving to the school a week early had to count for something! She rushed towards the building as her eyes looked up at the massive structure, admiring the old stonework carvings near the windows when she suddenly collided into someone. Her jaw hit the floor along with her eyes, seeing a notebook fall for the ground.
“OHMYGOD! I’m so sorry! Are you okay?!”
When her eyes came up to look at the man, her words died in her throat. He was extremely handsome, rendering her speech useless and causing her mouth to move even if nothing came out of it. She didn’t know what to say besides apologize.

.
“I—I.. I’m uhhh.. Max..”
She held her hand out to shake his if he would let her, completely understanding if he didn’t. She did after all, smack directly into him.@Marcus
He wandered through the buildings, hoping to familiarize himself with his new school. He wasn’t going to miss his old life in Baltimore and felt it apt to become more acclimated to his new home. His mom told him everything he’d needed to know about Mystic, partially to be informative, partially to over protective.
The town was everything she’d described to him. Every step filling his mind with more ideas, scribbling in his green notebook as if his life depended on it. He became so lost in thought that he wasn’t aware of the woman now in front of him. Then a sudden voice of concern to follow after dropping his belongings.
“Oh, yeah, I’m fine..”
His voice trailed off as stood there, stunned for a moment by her casual beauty. Coming back alive soon enough to not make the moment awkward.
“My name’s Taylor. I’m a freshman.”
He took her hand nervously, hoping that his hand wasn’t sweaty. The irony of being a water mage not lost upon him. He suddenly remembered his book and pen on the ground and quickly picked them up.
“Do you want some help with your bags?”
He didn’t think she was carrying enough that she needed, but he thought it s good enough excuse to be around her for even just a bit longer.
@✨Shay-Bae✨
‘My name’s Taylor. I’m a freshman.’
Her bright blue eyes almost lit up at his name and class. She was also a freshman and if he truly wasn’t angry with her, then she would at least have someone to talk to about the classes. His hand wasn’t sweaty at all, at least, not to her notice. She was far too busy staring at his handsome features to realize that he had left a bit of sweat behind on her hand.
‘Do you want some help with your bags?’
“Yes! I mean.. sure!”
She was so excited to have made a friend already that she handed him the satchel she had ever her body so that she could wheel her suitcase into the dorm room a bit more freely.
“I’m heading to the dorm room to put some of this stuff away.. Where are you headed?”
Her blonde hair hung loosely over her shoulders while her darker make-up really brought out the color of her eyes. She was smiling happily at the man and if he didn’t have anywhere to go, she would insist he come with her. He would have to see his dorm anyway unless he already had.@Marcus
‘I mean.. sure!’
Three words that somehow meant everything to Taylor. It’s his second day on campus and already things have been looking up compared to his old life. The idea of friendship and family in his home away from home made him excited. Maybe things would be different.
‘I’m heading to the dorm room to put some of this stuff away.. Where are you headed.’
“I’m actually about to get some food. I actually found a quiet place no one really goes that often. Care to join me?”
There was something about the woman in front of him. She made his cheeks the faintest shade of pink, but still made him feel at ease with every word. She made him feel safe and he hoped to see her on many occasions in the future.
@✨Shay-Bae✨
When he spoke to her, she suddenly didn’t care that she was wheeling around a suitcase. Her stomach did ache, but she hadn’t been paying too much attention to it. She was far more preoccupied with admiring what her new life was going to be like, one far away from her judgmental parents, and now that she had made a friend she couldn’t wait to dive headfirst into her new home.
“Yeah! Food sounds great!”
She would follow him through the hallways and watch every move he made from slightly behind him. There were people occasionally that they had past, but just in case she tried to walk a little behind him. She didn’t want to run into anyone else.
“So, how long have you been here? You look like you know your way around. Are you a sophomore?”
@Marcus
As they walked through the campus to her dorm, he felt at peace. Yet still curious about the woman behind him.
Am I getting to ahead of myself? I mean we just met and I already asked her to get food with me. Will she think this a date? If she does, I can't embarrass myself any more than I already have.
These thoughts and more filled his mind every minute they were together. The only time his mind seemed blank was when she spoke to him and every time he almost struggled to speak. This beautiful woman had him completely ensnared.
'So, how long have you been here? You look like you know your way around. Are you a sophomore?'
"I'm a freshman. I've been on campus a little more than a week and spent most of it just wandering around."
He remembered telling her his class earlier. Maybe she's just as nervous as I am. Could be that I'm overthinking things. And just like that, he was finally able to relax. They set down her things in her room. A decently long journey going by in a flash with some company. His stomach then growled loud enough for the both of them to hear. He laughed awkwardly at the fact, "So what do you think, time for food?"
@✨Shay-Bae✨
As soon as the words left her mouth she remembered him say he was a freshman. It was literally one of the first things he had said. She shook her head as he answered and then quickly nodded. She was blundering everything. Her first day and she was already sure that he thought less of her. She took a deep breath and spoke again, hopefully redeeming herself a bit.
“That’s good! It’s always best to get to know as much as you can so you’re not lost on your first day. Hopefully you can show me around.”
She said with a wide smile as they turned a few more corners. Once they arrived at her dorm, she quickly made her way inside and tossed her belongings on the bed before turning back to Taylor. She heard his stomach and smiled happily at him.
“Yeah, let’s go get you some food. I’m sure you’re starving.”
She walked towards him and closed the door behind her, not paying any attention to the decorations of the room. Her and her roommate would be staying in a white room with black blankets, rugs and curtains. It was a spotless room with Christmas lights strung from the ceiling, bringing a beautiful glow to the small room, but it was completely ignored in favor of the man she was with.Walking with him towards what she assumed was the cafeteria, she walked a little closer to him this time. She would have to get to know him better if she wanted him to show her around the place… and all together be around her more.
“So… Taylor. What kind of magic do you have?”
She had no idea of the social etiquettes one should have when discussing magic, only that you shouldn’t talk of it at all. Being in the academy though, it felt like her own personal Hogwarts and she wanted to know everything she possibly could.@Marcus
'That’s good! It’s always best to get to know as much as you can so you’re not lost on your first day. Hopefully you can show me around.'
"I'd be honored to be your very own tour guide."
He smiled at the thought. He would take any and every opportunity to spend more time with this girl. He just felt like this girl was special and looked her as such. Playfully bumping into her, even getting to her room it felt like they were the only ones in the room. The promise of food ending his momentary fantasy.
As they walked through the campus, he looked around, noticing more and more people filling the formerly empty space. Optimistic at the beginning of the school year. Looking over at Max, he couldn't help but hide his smile. He'd only known her for a short time and she already felt irreplaceable in his heart. He picked up his lunch and moved onto pay for it.
'So… Taylor. What kind of magic do you have?'
Then he paused at her question. He didn't really see the harm in telling her about his magic, but at the same time, slightly reluctant. His inner flashbacks of his past along with his hopes for his future clashed in his mind violently. Then words left his lips, almost involuntarily.
"I'm a water mage."
The second those words left his lips, his mind became clear. He led her to his place in hopes that maybe in time that it could be their place.
"I'm hoping that I can eventually learn ice magic. I think it would be fun to play around with in the snow, making the biggest igloos possible. Something that would make Elsa jealous. What about you? Are your hopes with your magic as childish as mine?"
He laughed at his own idea, but saw no reason think any bigger at this point in time. He was living a childhood dream to be able to learn magic and wanted to at least try to have some fun with it, even if others may not view his stance on his abilities the same.
@✨Shay-Bae✨
Max walked alongside Taylor into the expansive cafeteria. The word painted a picture of a white-walled room with lines and ‘school-food’ but it was nothing of the sort. It had four long dinning tables that stretched the full length of the room, but they only seemed to be used for loitering at the moment. Another king table ran perpendicular to the others at the front of the room and it was the one that held all the food. Students were filing up to fill their plates and wandering back to the dining tables or even out of the room to eat. Max’s eyes went wide as they walked in, her mouth falling open as she stared at the ceiling and thought this place resembled Hogwarts more and more.As they were getting their food and she asked her question, she watched the emotions play across Taylor’s face. She got the impression that maybe she shouldn’t have asked, but when he did finally respond she was thankful she did. He had such aspirations, like he had been thinking about it for far longer than she had and she couldn’t help but think maybe one or more of his parents had magic as well. She followed him to a small bench alongside the wall, next to the decorations of the room and sat down next to him. There was plenty of room at the tables, which was probably why no one occupied this space, but she was thankful that they had a small area to themselves.
‘… What about you? Are your hopes with your magic as childish as mine?’ Her cheeks went a bit red then as she had only known magic was real for a little over three months. Letting out a sigh, she looked down at her food and then up to him from under her brow, giving him a bit more of a stern look.
“First of all, I don’t think your aspirations are childish.” She grinned as she took a small bite of her pancakes and looked out towards the others. “I have healing magic… I think.”
3:14 AM
.She chewed her food and contemplated on what she wanted to tell him, trying to hide the embarrassment of not fully knowing what she could be capable of. She didn’t know anything about her magic, but the longer she thought of it, the more ridiculous her thoughts became.
“Hmm… Do you think I could eventually raise the dead?” She snickered to herself as she picked at her plate. “I don’t know. Honestly, I haven’t been thinking about it much. I just found out a few months ago that this kind of thing even existed. My family isn’t exactly… accepting of such things.”
She started to really get into her food then, keeping herself from speaking more. She hoped he wouldn’t judge her for her family, but at the same time, she didn’t know much about what kind of person he was. Her eyes did occasionally find his and when he did speak, she hung onto every word.@Marcus
Every second the two spoke, he watched her every reaction. The way the corner of her lip rose when she was completely engaged, the way her eyebrow furrowed at the slightest hint of concern. Every microsecond he made a mental note of all the tiny things that her body did to give away her emotions whether she was aware of it all or not. His favorite was the way she closed her eyes every time she enjoyed the gentle breeze.
The more he spoke with her the more he came to understand the woman before him. She was curious and always wanting to learn more. He had a feeling she was the type to always want better for herself. Never accepting things for just being. And that drive and passion moved him deeply. She was truly one of a kind.
As he ate a piece of sausage, he'd wondered if maybe he overstepped asking her about her magic. Just because he told her doesn't mean she was ready to talk about it too. Thoughts of self deprecation filled his mind until she gave him the reassurance he desperately needed.
'First of all, I don’t think your aspirations are childish.'
A simple sentence that filled him with joy and turned his cheeks into a deep crimson. As she continued on about her own magic, he sat in his own stupor of wonder. Healing magic and the ability to raise the dead. The latter sounding so outlandish, but at the same time, it's magic. Who's to know what you can do with.
"Well I'd say that works out perfect. I've been known to a bit clumsy so it's good to know I'll have my own gorgeous nurse to run to when I'm hurt. And all I ask is that if you choose to recreate World War Z, you give me about.....a day's heads up sound fair to you?"
He wondered if he should even mention the topic of her family. After all that's her personal life. Who was he to meddle. But at the same time, he had a feeling she need someone to be there for him like he once needed someone.
"Tell you what. Let's try not to worry so much about what your family accepts. Consider this your family away from home and to commemorate this, what do you say to dinner with me tonight?"
@✨Shay-Bae✨
Bright eyes stared into Taylor’s as he spoke to her and they widened a bit when he called her gorgeous. She couldn’t help but chuckle at how adorable he was. His jokes were funny and the innocence in his face was so angelic that she couldn’t help but notice his sweet he was. It also warmed her heart when he spoke of her family. She appreciated that he didn’t pry, a soft smile coming to her face as she looked down at her plate. Her heart froze in her chest when he uttered his last words though.
‘…what do you say to dinner with me tonight?’
She shot her eyes back to his with a wide smile of disbelief across her face. Her voice tried to come out, but she stuttered, blushed and had to look away from a moment as she nervously laughed. Clearing her throat, she looked back at him, suddenly feeling her stomach drop.
“Tonight? D—Diner? You.. You want to have dinner? With me? Tonight?”
Her voice remained in the same lower octave, not rising in nervousness in the slightest. It wasn’t that she had anxiety, she just couldn’t believe he would want to go on a date with her. She watched his eyes, searching for any hint of hesitation and when she didn’t find anything, but possible nervousness, she smiled happily at him.
“Well. How could I say no to that.”
@Marcus
As the words left his lips he felt like he was in complete disbelief of himself. He just that. He just asked a woman he had just met an hour before on a date. He just asked Max out on a date. He felt as if time was absolutely frozen. His heart raced from just the simple idea of his actions. He felt his body become hot. Petrified at the idea that he may have put his friendship with her at risk.
'Tonight? D—Diner? You.. You want to have dinner? With me? Tonight?'
He was completely overwhelmed by just the notion of him completely misunderstanding their relationship. Would she think he was weird? Would she avoid him? He couldn't bare the thought of that. Just as he was on the verge of hyperventilation, she responded.
'Well. How could I say no to that.'
And his heart and mind settled. She was his peace. She made him feel things he'd never felt before. And he hoped that there were many more days like this.
"So how about we meet at the fountain tonight. I've got something in mind."
When her gaze met his again, she saw the worry instantly vanish from his face. It seemed her words had settled him and when his face relaxed, he was incredibly handsome. She felt like a fool for saying yes to their date though. They had only known each other for less than an hour and they already had their first date planned? Was she really that starved for affection? She shook the negative thoughts from her mind. And finished the bit of food she had left on her plate and turned to him, extending a hand to take his plate if he was finished.
“Let me take our plates back and you can show me around to the classrooms… if you want.”
She gave him a kind smile as she stood up, still extending her hand for his plate. If he tried to insist he would take them, she would shush him and take it from him herself. She didn’t need someone to wait on her hand and foot. She just needed company and right now, he was providing that. She would take the plates up to the dispenser and make her way back to him with. Her blue eyes were shinning like diamonds in an Arabian sand when she came to stand before him again, happy as can be that she seemed just as glad to be in her company as well.
“Well, Taylor Whose-Last-Name-Is-A-Mystery, I’m Max Spencer. In the healing Mage who hopes to become a necromancer one day.”
She teased as they left the dinning hall. She was trying to make him laugh and if she succeeded, it would only make her grin that much wider.@Marcus
They shared a moment of silence. He was in complete admiration of her. She was gorgeous in every way and felt more and more lucky by the second that he was able to share these moments with her. It wasn't very often that he came to make a definite decision and in this moment, he felt like he was making the right one. She was someone that could make him want to better himself and maybe come out of his shell. He watched her take away her plates, and in that brief moment of being alone used his magic to lift the sweat from his body. He was emphatically embarrassed by how nervous she made him, but knew he'd take every opportunity to spend more time with her.
"It'd be my pleasure to spend more time with you and show you around."
He knew he was being forward, but felt it was worth a shot. He allowed her to take his plate. Feeling somehow closer to the woman than such a menial task would normally allow. He took out his notebook and wrote a single line.
She's the only star I need to find
He looked up just as she started making her way back and couldn't help but smile and then laugh at her statement.
"Well Max Spencer, Future Leader of the Zombie Horde, I'm Taylor Davis, the water mage who will day lead the snowmen."
He couldn't hold back the clear happiness in his body. He held out his hand to Max.
"Well princess, care to embark on an adventure."
@✨Shay-Bae✨
When she made her way back to him, she noticed him closing his notebook and smiling at her. He seemed so genuine and far too nice for his own good. Maybe she was just used to the bullies at her old school, but she considered herself lucky to have a familiar face before classes had even started. It warmed her heart and made her laugh, especially when he called her ‘Future Leader of the Zombie Horde’. The very idea of Zombies and Snowmen running together made her cackle so deeply that she had to look at the floor and close her eyes. It wasn’t until he spoke again that she looked back at him, her cheeks red and her eyes shining at him.
“Of course.”
She took his hand and walked with him out into the hallway, still giggling about the idea of a snowman walking with a zombie. The corridor they took brought them to three color-coded hallways. The blue hallway held the Practical Magic Applications department, the red was for Potions and the green was Dueling. There were other classes in those hallways, but those were the three major ones the two would take as freshmen.
“Well, at least these will be easy to find.”
She teased. The classrooms all looked the same, big auditorium rooms with a teachers desk at the front and bleacher-like seats starting in the middle of the floor. They staggered clear up to the wall and a long whiteboard took up most of the wall behind the desk. She stepped into a few of the rooms and looked around, picking out the best area to see the teacher in each room.
“Wow… I can’t wait for classes to start! This is going to be great!”
@Marcus
Just being able to hold her filled Taylor with emotions so strong and unrecognizable that he didn't know how to explain it. His nervousness completely evaporated and instead pure blissed found its way in his heart instead. He was able to be himself and love so openly with Max that even if their relationship remained platonic he'd still be happy. He squeezed her hand tightly as he hoped they could find more.
He watched her eyes fill with wonder and amazement from the blue, red and green painting on the walls. Then as they walked into was like she had stepped into a world she was always meant to be in. Her enthusiasm and excitement just made her more beautiful to him.
Then the reality of his world finally set in. He was no longer an artist or a writer. He was a mage whose primary role would be to fight in a war he'd hardly any knowledge of. He spent so long wishing he had power and the ability to fight and now that he had it, he felt deep the irony really ran. He could no longer live the quiet life as a sculptor. Even if he tried, how long would that be for?
Then as he looked at Max again, he realized that while his worries were legitimate, they shouldn't hold him back from his dreams. And right now, all he dreamt of was her. And in that moment of emphatic appreciation, he decided on a leap of faith.
"Hey Max, I know this a big ask but, can I.....can I kiss you?"
@✨Shay-Bae✨
The auditorium rooms were huge and as they stood in the last classroom in the last hallway, her smile was wide and cemented onto her face. She loved it and if they told her classes were starting immediately, she would be all the more happy for it. She raced down from the bleacher-like seats and moved to stand next to Taylor as her grin showed off all of her perfectly white teeth. She took his hand again relishing in the feeling of it and looking back at the classroom. It didn’t dawn on her that she was holding his hand like a couple would, not that she had only done so when they were walking, but when his question slipped out, she couldn’t help but jerk her head towards his.
‘Hey Max, I know this is a big ask but, can I … can I kiss you?’
Her mouth fell open for a moment, but the euphoria of seeing the academy, making a friend and feeling accepted was too much to dampen the experience. She stared at him in contemplation, but only for a second before she placed her hands on his cheek and placed her lips against his. She had to stand on her toes to reach him, but thankfully he did lean down a bit too. His lips were soft and gentle as she pushed a little harder against him before she pulled away. It was a simple peck that had lasted too long to be considered as such, but she couldn’t help but smile and blush as she let her feet rest on the floor.
“Umm… Sorry… I.. I probably shouldn’t have done that…”
She was apologizing, but she was far from sorry. Her eyes were still shining and the smile was still very evident against her face as she let a small chuckle escape from her lips. Holding out her hand for him to take, she would lead him out of the classroom if he would let her and slowly start to make her way to the front of the building. She hadn’t got to explore the campus grounds yet and as they walked through the halls that were still full of people, she kept stealing glances at his handsome face.
9:09 PM
.
“Thank you… for showing me around and letting me eat with you.”
She smiled up at him again, happy to be with someone she felt so comfortable with. She couldn’t wait for classes to start and go get to spend more time with him away from the bustle of the academy.@Marcus
As he felt her lips press into his own, he felt his body melt into hers. Her hand on his cheek and that little bit of force that was harder than he'd anticipated. As she pulled away, he felt his ears turn a bright red, his short moment of bravado quickly evaporating now as he began to blush. His first kiss better than he could have ever dreamed of and with a woman more beautiful than he could have hoped for. A few seconds that he'd be happy to remember for the rest of his life.
'Umm… Sorry… I.. I probably shouldn’t have done that…'
"That's okay, I'm not sorry for this."
Taylor grabbed her by the hand and pulled her into him, returning her kiss. He felt a greed towards he that he could only help that she's feel in return. This was a feeling in between lust and pure adoration. He rested his hand on her waist. Pulling away only for the opportunity stare into her perfect blue eyes once again.
"And that is something I'd do a million times over."
As they walked through the halls, all he could see was the beautiful woman holding his hand. Max was already someone he found special and important on top of ever irreplaceable. If he could help it, he would never let her hand go. He smiled brightly as those words left her lips.
"Thank you for bumping into me and for agreeing to our date tonight."
For the first time in a long time, Taylor actually looked forward to school.
"Think you can meet me right here at about 6:30? It's your first day here and there's something I want to show you."
@✨Shay-Bae✨
Max smiled up at him when he thanked her for bumping into him. He was far too sweet for his own good and every word that left his lips had her wanting to hold him close to her. He was precious and she felt like she had to protect him against anything and everything. Her mind trailed off to them experiencing the academy together; eating, dates, study session and watching him come into his powers. It was such a lovely train if daydreams until she was pulled from her trance by his next words.
‘Think you can meet me right here at 6:30?’
She looked around and found them standing at the front of the building again. She pushed the doors open and walked on into the courtyard as she took a deep breath of the fall breeze. Everything seemed to be falling into place and she couldn’t be happier for it.
“Yeahh… I think I can do that, Taylor.”
She chuckled and smiled up at him as she walked up to a stone bench-table and leaned against it. She crossed her arms and brought her eyes to his as she questioned him further.
“Are you going to try out for any of the sports teams?”
It was a dumb question, but he had the build for a baseball player at least. He was incredibly handsome and if he did want to go out for sports, she would be at every game just for him. If he didn’t, that was fine too. She would go to every artistic function that he had and be there to support him if he needed it.@Marcus
Taylor looked at Max with the eyes of a man who wanted nothing but to see her smile. Even as a water mage, if he knew it was the only way, he's happily set cities on fire to put a light in her eyes. If the day came to it, he'd happily put his fears aside and anything possible to protect his queen. He knew he would happily serve her for the rest of his life. To simply be next to her was a pleasure and privilege he would do anything to live for.
As she agreed to meeting him in the spot where they stood, he felt an excitement, but an incomparable nervousness that he didn't know what to do with. Would she like what he had to show her? Would she be disappointed in hopes for something better? So many thoughts raced through his mind, yet he did everything possible to push them all down. For now, she was his, even if he only like to think of her as such.
'Are you going to try out for any of the sports teams?'
He paused at the question. It was like she was reading him in real time. It was exciting, but scary at the same time.
"Are you sure you're a healing mage? Not even a hint of clairvoyance or mind reading in there? Baseball was always a passion of mine, but lately I've been writing and drawing more. If you'd like to read something sometime, I'd love to show you. But what about you? Someone as brilliant as you must have some extracurriculars they're deeply entranced by. And for the love of god, don't say me."
A deep chuckle left his mouth as he stared back at her. Her beauty leaving him completely awe stricken that she was with him in this moment.
@✨Shay-Bae✨
She couldn’t help but laugh as he mentioned mind-reading. It was such a wondrous power and she would be lying if she said she didn’t wish she was telepathic instead, but she simply shook her head with a wry smile across her face as he continued. Her eyes fell to his chest for a moment when he mentioned baseball, feeling an odd heat pulse through her body for a moment when she pictured him in a baseball uniform. He was a very attractive man and thinking of him excelling in sports had momentarily distracted her until he started talking about his creative side. Her bright eyes found his again as her smile deepened much more genuinely. He had been writing and drawing, putting himself down on paper and somehow, that made her heart beat faster than it had been when she was picturing him on the baseball field. She rapidly nodded as he he said he would like to show her and when he finished his next question with a joke, she laughed heartily and brought her the hand he wasn’t holding to his bicep. Both hands were holding one of his arms as she stared up at him with complete disbelief that he was even giving her the time of day, let alone asking about her interests.
“Umm… Actually, I do dabble a bit in art as well. It’s nothing big, mainly just sketches, but if I’m not reading or studying I usually find something I can sit and stare at for a an hour or so and start drawing. I’m… not the most adventurous person. My family didn’t allow me to get out and do much, but that just gave me more time to focus on school. Who knows, maybe I’ll find something here that awakens a hidden talent.”
She joked, clearing her throat and looking down at their feet as she leaned against the stone table.
“Unless you want it to be you? I wouldn’t mind adding you as an.. extra in my curriculum..”
8:17 AM
.Her face burned bright red at her horrible pick-up-line as she pulled his arm to her forehead and stared at the ground. She shook her head and took a deep breath before she looked towards the courtyard and cleared her throat.
“I… am so sorry.. That was awful.”
She couldn’t stop laughing, just the thought of him looking at her made her cheeks burn more and she couldn’t for the life of her meet his eyes. He was a writer, skilled with the art of words and here she was making a complete fool of herself. Her hand squeezed his a little tighter and before she could continue embarrassing herself, she quickly looked at his chest and spoke again.
“I would love to see your writings and drawings though. I’m sure they’re amazing.”
Every word that left her lips he clung onto. Every syllable was more beautiful than any song to him. The way she looked at him was like a panacea for every affliction. Her beautiful blue eyes looked back at him and even though he was larger than her, he felt so small. Her dreams were so expansive, her thoughts so peaceful.
Why was someone like her talking to me?
Max's existence and every touch of his body lit fire into his heart. Her comments soon sending his heart to his throat, leaving him speechless for a moment. He stood in complete disbelief that she didn't just look at him like this, but thought of him the same. His face turning a bright red at her comments.
"No. No. It was....nice. I'd like that a lot."
He felt himself become a puddle at her every word. Quickly, he found himself wondering if she knew how much she had him tightly wound around her finger. In just a few hours he became hers. There was nothing Taylor wouldn't do for Max. He desperately wanted her to see him, his words. For Max to know and accept him everything he was. He opened his notebook and flipped through to find the poem he wanted to show her, placing his pen in between the pages.
"Uhm. I've never showed anyone anything I've written before, but I really want you to read this one."
He nervously handed her the book. The same book that brought them together.
"Let me know what you think...."
His eyes shifting towards the ground, his heart pounding that it was deafening to his ears. The fire rushing towards his ears as desperately wished he could conjure enough water to cool his body down.
||They say there’s a red string
That will always tie us together
I don’t know where you are
Or even what your name is
I hope you don’t feel lonely
Because even through distance
I’ll always be with you
When the world feels heavy
Knowing you’re there
Let’s me weather the storm
Maybe I’m childish
Maybe I’m mistaken
Maybe I don’t know any better
Maybe you’re in front of me waiting
But a maybe is
10:10 AM
a chance
A possibility
And that little bit of something
Is better than nothing
Just please don’t give up
And please don’t cut the string
Because as long as you’re out there
I can never feel alone ||

Taylor was adorable, that much she was sure of. She couldn't get over how he always accepted everything she said and never seemed put off. His smile was infectious and his words were always sweet. She couldn't wait to get into the groove of classes and start meeting him in the hallways, the dining hall and in the courtyard. He was her new-found fixation and until she had to start studying, he would remain that way. When he started flipping through his book, she couldn't contain her excitement. She pulled her arms back to her chest and waited for him to hand her the notebook. Her eyes were wide and when he gave it to her, she visibly vibrated with anticipation. Her bright eyes read over the scribbled words with a glee that slowly crinkled to worry. These may have been ramblings, but they were ramblings of someone who needed someone to see him. He didn't need fame, he just needed someone to see him. As she finished it those eyes of hers turned sad and when she looked at him, she couldn't speak. She hadn't known him long at all, but she found herself wanting to tell him how much she already appreciated him. He was so kind and never deserved to feel alone, not for a single second. Clutching the book to her chest for a single moment before setting it down on the table behind her, she wrapped both arms around the man in front of her and held him tightly against her.
"I know it might not mean anything right now, but you are amazing, unforgettable and talented. Don't you ever feel alone. I'll always be here, until you run out of ink."
She refused to let him be sad or feel lonely. When she pulled away from him, she took a deep breath and if he would let her, she would step away from him towards the academic building.
"I need to head back to my dorm if I'm going to be ready to meet you here for our date. See you soon, Hemmingway?"
@Marcus
As Max took his notebook in her hands, his beating heart roared into deafening worry. Watching her beautiful blue eyes shift from left to right over each word, slowly swelling with concern. Taylor's own insecurity took over his every thought, consuming him like a small boat in a whirlpool.
*What if she thinks differently of me. What if she thinks I'm pathetic? What if she thinks I'm not worth the trouble and effort of being around.
When Max held him and he heard her words, it took everything in him not to break down. Of course she wouldn't think any of those things. She saw him for exactly who he was, no more, no less. As his mind cleared he found himself somehow even more appreciative for her and everything she was. Smirking at her comment.
"Hemmingway? I'd rather be Frost. And yeah. That might be a good idea now that you mention it."
The slight hint of pink in his cheeks as they walked back to the dorm. His mind replaying all the events of the day and how it was even possible he go this lucky to meet Max. His brief moments of confidence and bravado taking everything in him. Still, he couldn't contain his happiness. He was proud to be the one to stand next to her. As they walked back into the dorm, he only wanted more time with her, even if he knew they'd be back together just a few hours later. As they returned to her dorm, he gave her a peck on the cheek.
"I'll see you soon."
@✨Shay-Bae✨
It didn't pass her notice that he almost seemed embarrassed by her compliments. He was an excellent poet and there was no shame in that at all. She gave him a heart-warming smile and when he spoke again, she giggled a bit to herself at his choice in author.
'Hemmingway? I'd rather be Frost. And yeah, that might be a good idea now that you mention it.'
"Yeah."
It was all she could say as she stared up at his handsome face. There were no words that could describe her elation at the accomplishments she had made on her first day of school. She already had a date and it was with seemingly the most sensitive and sweet boy on the planet. She couldn't help but take his hand as they walked back to the dorms, smiling widely at the blush that was starting to overtake his cheeks.
"You really are very talented. I think anyone should be grateful to be able to read your work."
The trek to their dorms didn't take long and when they reached the hallway full of doors, she felt a faint sense of longing overwhelm her. She was going to see him again, soon, why did it matter that they were parting ways already? She stopped in front of her door and turned to say something to him; it was going to be anything that would keep him there with her for longer even though she didnt have the slightest clue as to what that could be. It wasn't until he kissed her cheek that she froze in her tracks and actually brought her gaze up to meet his.
'I'll see you soon.'
".. Y-yeah... Definitely..."
9:17 PM
.Her hand slowly came up to touch her cheek as she grabbed the doorknob to her room and slowly pushed it open. Her eyes followed him as he walked away, watching him round the corner before she darted into her room and slammed the door. Her eyes were wide with excitement and lucky for her, her roommate hadn't been in yet. She jumped to land on her stomach hard against her mattress before rolling onto her back. Everything was all just too much at once and her body was shaking with adrenaline. Taking a deep breath, she hopped off the bed and ran for her suitcase, rummaging around to find the best outfit she had brought with her. When she had found it, the shower and dressing was quicker than it should've. She threw on a black bra with a grey, baggy sweater and a pair of tight, black leggings. She had a pair of grey heals that matched her sweater and after looking herself over, she was very pleased with how she looked. Tossing her hair into a half-do, she grabbed her black purse and made her way to the courtyard to meet him. She didn't care if it was early nor did she even bother to look at the time before she took off running, all she cared about was seeing him step out onto that courtyard.@Marcus
After Taylor rounded the corner, he found himself rushing through the halls weaving though students, bumping into fire hydrants and almost tripping over the errant bump in the carpet. He needed everything to be perfect. Upon returning to his dorm, he didn't even acknowledge his roommate. This being the norm up to this point.
As he practically flew into his desk chair, he rushed into to his bag looking for his notebook, searching desperately for that page. Finally, the rushed scribbles he was looking fall befell his eyes.
She’s the only star I need to find
This simple words already the summation of his thoughts and feelings for Max, but his pen rushed to add to the page. Those words shouldn't be alone, nor could they be his only expression for his affection. As he finished his poem. He sat in satisfaction, tearing the page from the book. These words could only ever be for her.
He jumped into his shower, the water lukewarm at best, but feeling scalding to his skin. Ever since he discovered his abilities, he felt a sensitivity for temperatures. He turned the water up just enough to make sure he was thoroughly clean, fighting through the discomfort.
After stepping out, he put on an outfit he felt comfortable in but that would still impress Max. A white t shirt and shoes, gray pants and a tan cardigan, adding an obsidian necklace to finish. Once he was dressed, all he knew is that he wanted to beat her there. Not that he could even hide any excitement in wanting to be around her. To his surprise she was already there. He looked at the time on his phone.
"Really? 6:10? So you're the coolest girl in the world and you can't let me beat you to waiting for our date. I guess I gotta keep that in mind."
He chuckled as he wrapped his arms around her, squeezing her tightly as if they hadn't been together not that long ago.
"Well, we're a bit early for what I had in mind, so how do you wanna kill a few minutes?"
@✨Shay-Bae✨
Max was practically pacing by the time Taylor made his way out into the courtyard. She had turned her back to the door, held her elbow with one hand and had the other thumbnail between her teeth as she starred at the buildings across the grass. She was a bit nervous for their date, but more so because she felt like she had plenty of time to ruin his image of her. He had seemed so perfect and if she was the reason that they didn't feel this strong connection before 24 hours of knowing each other, she was going to be disheartened. Sure, it was moving fast, but she didn't care. Taylor was such an amazing man and before she could think on it anymore, his voice froze her to the concrete.
'Really? 6:10pm? So, you're the coolest girl in the worldandyou can't let me beat you to waiting for our date. I guess I gotta keep that in mind.'
She slowly turned to face him and as soon as she saw him, her lips curled into the biggest smile. He was exceedingly handsome and as he approached her she was mesmerized by that necklace swaying across his chest. She felt his arms go around her and she couldn't help but giggle into him as she pulled her arms around him as well. Squeezing him tightly for a moment, she kept herself close to him as she put her chin against his chest and looked up at him.
'Well, We're a bit early for what I had in mind, so how do you wanna kill a few minutes?'
"I can think of a few things."
7:41 PM
Her eyes fell to his lips as her heart pounded inside her. The words had flown out of her mouth before she could catch them and if he would let her, she would push herself up on her toes and press her lips against his. If he pulled away, she would rock back onto her heels and cross her arms while she suggested them take a walk around the courtyard. Either way, she would be unable to keep her emotions from fully focusing on him. She couldn't wait for whatever he had planned and if he could still stand her at the end of the night, she would have the greatest of dreams.@Marcus
Taylor froze at first from the shock of the kiss. The sudden affection sent his eyes wide open then slowly fluttering closed as he felt himself become overwhelmed with desire and emotion. He wrapped his arms around her waist.
Every second he felt his body film with the same familiar warmth he had whenever he saw smile. Feeling his body melt into hers, he let this moment consume him. It was everything he ever could have imagined himself wanting and needing. He heart consumed by being wanted, heard, appreciate, loved and more importantly safe.
This beautiful and bubby blonde woman was amazing at took his breath away. As his lips pressed back into hers, he found himself wondering if this breathlessness was from his feelings for Max or his good of a kisser she was. Each time their lips parted and returned to form, he felt his mind and body react in a way he knew all too familiar. Before today, he grow red from embarrassment, but now, he only grew red for the way she made his words fly.
This was something so small and so simple that he knew it may seem childish to others, but this was too important to him.
Small streams of water rising from the fountain behind them. Swirling around each other in a serpentine fashion. Finally curling into a large heart into the air before collapsing completely.
As their lips parted for the final time, he felt his lungs struggle to maintain breath and cheeks burn. This woman had a hold on him that was so strong that he wondered if it was even possible for him to hide it. He averted her gaze out of nervousness, blushing and smiling uncontrollably.
"Wow...um. That was..um...nice."
He took a single step back and reached his hand out to grab hers.
He led her to the familiar school building, but going up a side staircase until they came before a door. Pushing it open and making a hard left towards a ladder. He climbed it like he had just a few times before, knowing what was awaiting them.
Upon reaching the roof of the building, t
2:50 AM
hey could see the entire city of mystic. The sun just before a sunset.
"Well here we are. The sunset is beautiful I'll admit, but I think what comes next, you'll like even more. Or at least I hope as much."
He smiled as best as he could with the butterflies in his stomach. All Taylor wanted was to make sure she had a good, no a great night. And if he could do that much, he'd always be satisfied.
@✨Shay-Bae✨
The kiss they shared was something so warming to her that she was shocked into reality when he pulled away. They both seemed like jagged puzzle pieces that fit perfectly together when combined and as she felt him in her arms, she knew she never wanted to be without him again. As they parted she noticed all too well how quickly he looked away from her and how tinted his cheeks were. It made another small giggle come out of her before she heard what he had said.
'Wow...um... The was... um... nice.'
"Well, there's more where that came from, Taylor."
She teased, eagerly taking his hand and walking with him. She didn't know where he was leading them, but she was glad he had a place in mind. She hadn't had a decent chance to explore the grounds yet and wasn't sure what exactly she would've had them do if he didn't already have a plan. The building he brought them too was another dorm building that resided on the edge of campus, one she luckily didn't have to live in since she would have to run to all her classes. She followed him up the staircase and then the ladder, chirping away at him from behind and below.
"Y'know, I know we haven't had a chance to talk about this yet, but I have an intense fear of heights."
She laughed, climbing the last few rungs of the ladder before he helped her onto the safety of the roof floor. She looked around them and then at the sunset as he spoke, wrapping her arms around herself as she stepped towards the edge, but made sure to keep a good distance from it.
'Well, here we are. The sunset is beautiful I'll admit, but I think what comes next, you'll like even more. Or at least, I hope as much.'
"Oh? You have more planned than just sitting up here and watching the sun set?"
10:42 PM
It may have sounded sarcastic, but she meant it. Even if they just sat near the edge of the roof and watched the sun sink below the horizon, it would be the most romantic date she had ever been on and she was with him. From that day on, she was sure he would make every day feel like a special one and she couldn't thank him enough for that. The orange and red rays stretched out across the sky before them, tinting the earth with it's evening glow. He was right, it was beautiful and it almost took her breath away.
"This is amazing, Taylor. You really didn't have to do anything more than this."
She didn't look at him as she spoke, instead, she kept her bright eyes on the sun before them and watched the rays seem to magically bless the evening for only them. Even if Taylor wasn't the man she ended up marrying, she would always remember this sunset and how unique it seemed compared to any she had seen before it or after. This one was special, this one was theirs. A smile stretched across her face as she looked out over the campus, admiring how tiny everyone seemed compared to them. She knew she couldn't look at him without crying, so she held her arms around her torso and committed the most gorgeous sunset of her life to memory until his voice broke her fantastical bliss.@Marcus
For once, he felt like coming early wasn't a bad thing. In fact, found himself thanking his inner self repeatedly for being early and that Max had the same idea. That he didn't leave her waiting for even a minute or even a second longer. This beautiful luck that he'd encountered by being born to his mage mother and coming to this school when he did. He thanked the one in a billion chance of Max bumping into him when she did.
'This is amazing, Taylor. You really didn't have to do anything more than this.'
"Yeah....I know, but I wanted to share it with someone special. So....yeah...here we are."
He knew it sounded cheesey, but it was the truth. She wasn't like anyone he'd ever met before, for better and for worse. If there was anyone in this world that was special, it was the beautiful healing mage in front of him. He pulled off his cardigan and placed it around her slender shoulders.
"And sorry about the heights thing. I didn't really think about that, but that was a bit obvious....."
His voice trailed off in the slight embarrassment initially of his lack of thought and now by his overthinking nature. He caught himself before his mind could spiral out of control. Reaching deep into his pocket, he pulled out the folded paper he'd scribbled on twice through the day. Once when she threw out their garbage and again when he was preparing for this date.
"Actually, I almost forgot. I wrote this for you. I don't know if it's anything special, but I wanted you to have it."
He felt his heart palpitate in anxiety of her taking the paper and what she may think of his words, yet still, he could only find himself hoping for the best.
She’s the only star I need to find
Mirrors reflect our hearts so divine
In becoming new shades of blue
Beauty the likes of which I never knew
In heaven I find her streaks of gold
My only desire her hand to hold
As the moon shines the purest hope
My love for her entwined in rope@✨Shay-Bae✨
The sunset had captivated her, but she still listened to everything he said. Hehaddone something extremely special and she felt a pang of honor to know he had done it for her, or at least had her in mind when the idea struck. The next thing she felt was him draping his cardigan over her shoulders and while she grabbed the ends to pull it tight against her, her eyes went to him to see if he needed it. She admired his bare arms for a moment before her blue hues shot to his as he spoke.
'And sorry about the heights thing...'
She simply shook his head as he finished, letting a small chuckle slip passed her lips.
"Please don't worry about it. If my fear of heights would've taken this place away as an option, then I would've never said anything."
She smiled brightly at him as she stepped closer to him, leaning the back of her head against his chest as her gaze rested on the setting sun. She took a deep breath as she recounted the last few hours of her time at the Magic Academy. She had arrived early enough to settle into her dorm room, explore the building and she made a new friend, however, Taylor was already more to her than a friend. She felt silly thinking that, but they seemed to get along straight away and while she knew how unlikely it was to find someone she would be with forever on her first day of college, there was a big part of her that wished that was the case. The first year of any college would be where one found themselves amongst their peers and became closer with everyone they came into contact with. Socially, she could be making a huge mistake by dating a freshmen her first year, but whenever she considered Taylor a mistake he always proved her wrong and this time was no different.
'Actually, I almost forgot. I write this for you. I don't know if it's anything special, but I wanted you to have it.'
6:32 PM
He handed her a folded piece of paper that had a few lines scribbled on it. His handwriting had been quick, as if he was in a hurry when he wrote it, but she could tell it was from him as soon as she saw it. She read every word, twice, before she went back for a third time to memorize his handwriting. Tears welled in her eyes at his sincerity and as she studied the small curves he had in his M's and T's, she spoke in a shaky voice.
"Taylor... This is... This is... I've never had anyone do this for me before..." Lifting her eyes to look into his again, she smiled and wiped the tears that threatened to smear her make-up. "This is absolutely special."
She turned to wrap her arms around him as she let the remainder of the tears fall. He was the sweetest person she had ever met and she considered herself lucky to have run into him. Pulling away with a small chuckle at her emotional state, she looked up at him and cleared her throat.
"You're going to make me cry forever if we stay up here."
She took a step towards the middle of the roof and looked back to see if he was going to follow her. If he did, she would take his hand until they reached the stairs to go back down to the street.@Marcus
He walked over to her to wipe the tears from her eyes and kiss her forehead. Brushing her hair to the frame of her face, Taylor then kissed her cheek and took her hand in his own.
"Well, I'm sorry, but there's still one more thing I have to show you. Hopefully this last thing is a bit less tear inducing."
Taylor smiled at her and looked at his watch and smiled when he saw the time. He pulled her to the side of the building excitedly.
"It's about to happen. Just watch and enjoy."
He leaned onto the short wall on the roof turning back to watch as the sun just finished setting. Moments later, the few moments of dark enraptured the city as millions of lights filled the city. Small swarms of fireflies danced around the city.
"Welcome to your first night in Mystic."
Each light moving in it's own pattern as if dancing their own unique song as the only lights in the city enjoyed their few moments of serenity until the individual lights of hundreds of buildings and streetlights took over. He walked over and stood behind Max, wrapping his arms around her waist.
"I hope this isn't me being too forward and I do have good news and bad news. The bad news is that I don't have anything that cool I could possibly show you. The good news is that I'm sure you have even more things you could show me. If you want to that is. And with that, I'm ready to follow you anywhere."
