The city had always held its own little secrets. Whether it was the crime syndicates that secretly ran most of its underground crime or the intricate levels of intrigue and political games that ran well beyond city hall at all hours of the night. This city had something to peel back if you looked just hard enough, but most people didn’t. They were content with keeping off to the sidelines and keeping things at a surface level visibility for themselves. Tom couldn’t blame them, truth be told, who wouldn’t want to live in blissful ignorance in order to keep their lives intact? The scent of fresh grass still clung to the air as the rough pavement of cracked and ill maintained tiles spread out like a monument to ill-funded maintenance. Tom greeted the idle passerby with a smile and a nod, hands in his pockets as he kept his head down. How odd that the park was utilized in such a way, to collect one’s thoughts and take a brisk walk through a reminder of nature. That was, of course, an artificial nature in an already increasingly man-made environment. A way to lift people’s spirits amongst the constructs they created for themselves. He felt a pain in his chest and immediately took a seat on one of the benches, the lacquered wood creaking as he fished out an orange bottle. Three small white pills were deposited into his hand and quickly swallowed, eyes glancing up towards the sky. From here he attempted to trace where the missing stars were and let his thoughts drift within that sea of tranquility. How did no-one know? How could anyone not know? But perhaps that was a part of the job, part of the thin veil he and a few others were organized to keep. But his anxiety grew and that feeling of wanting to shatter it and share this revelation with someone couldn’t be shook. So, there he sat. Waiting upon that bench, thoughts drifting as he wondered if he would ever get the opportunity to peel back the curtain just a little bit for someone.

Avery sighed, she had finally gotten out of all day meetings, and was finally allowed out of the stupid office and out in the world. She took a deep breath sighing in relief. The fresh air of the park felt amazing. She pushed back her curly hair and walked down the payment with a wide smile. She had just moved to the beautiful city less then a month ago, and she was already feeling so stressed out, and unbelievably tired. So far she wasn't loving it, the people so far that's she's meat has been nothing but hateful towards her, maybe that's because her new coworkers didn't like her, and she hasn't had time to just walk and get to know the city. But she hoped she'd get to meet some nice people soon. And soon was today, she finally had time off, a whole three day weekend and she was ready for it. At the office she had changed into a yellow crop top and a pair of long overalls. Her hair was tied back with a yellow ribbon. She was going into the weekend in style. She happily walked around the park looking around with a wide smile, her boss was right, the park was magnificent! Her boss had also told her to look closer at things, that she may be surprised at what she may see. Avery wasn't sure what she meant by that, but she was going to try and keep an open mind...maybe. She after a while kd walking she found a bench, that had a beautiful view of the park. She slowly walked over and smiled "hi!! May I sit with you?" She asked kindly with a wide smile. "Thw view us so beautiful and all the other benches are full. Is it okay if I sit with you? I'll try my hardest not to talk alot but I can't promise !" She laughed. @ChaosKillerX7

How could anyone deny the beauty in front of them? It was hard to miss something so special in the middle of the concrete jungle but Tom had always found a way to criticize it. To ridicule and put it in spite with the framing of what he knew and how he knew it. Had he grown bitter? Was there something gnawing deep within his soul so black and tarnished that--- The voice snapped him out of whatever degrading stupor he has found himself in and immediately a polite smile found its way towards the woman who approached. He immediately gestured over towards the seat before he chuckled. “Don’t worry so much about conversation. I don’t mind it at all.” It was a necessary distraction from what swirled around it. From his own toxic thoughts that seemed to have poisoned the well. He scratched at the idlings of an unkempt beard and straightened the dress jacket that he wore only specifically to counter the cold. He offered a small gesture towards the rest of the park and spoke quietly, green-hued eyes glancing over the appearance of the woman. “Nice place isn’t it? They’re supposed to pump another few million to renovate it. Let’s hope that includes benches.”

Avery smiled softly sitting on the bench with a smile. She carefullt put her bag between them as she looked at the view with a soft hum, she needed this. Being trapped in a cenent building all day, she needed this free time outside. "It's beautiful, my boss has been telling me about hoe amazing it is all day today, so I decided to come put and see what he was talking about. And I have to say he was right." She smiles widely. The wond gently tussle her hair, she gently got her jacket out of her bag putting it on, her smile never went away. She closed her eyes letting the breeze blow against her, and the fresh air fill her lungs. She was enjoying the time outside. She opened her eyes and looked at the other with a smile. "Oh, I hope so too, from what I heard we are supose to get a playground for kids with special needs and disabilities." She explained with a smile "im excited to see what they do with the park!" She happily hummed looking at him. "Im Avery by the way, it's nice to meet you." She said holding her hand out to him. Her smile remained wide, she was being very friendly @ChaosKillerX7

He had appreciated that she still saw some inherent sense of beauty here. There was a laugh from the man as he nodded. “Yes. How nice that will be. My name's Tom.” He extended out a hand for her to shake before his eyes staked out towards the park. Even now beyond the blurred edges of reality he could spot the familicises of what lay beneath. The society that lived below them, attempting to keep the separation as much as possible. He'd lean back into the bench after shaking her hand and gestured towards her. “How long have you been in the city? Seen anything interesting or unique?” The question was a loaded one. People always said yes or no but never the answers he really expected. They hadn’t been able to really open their eyes and see what Tom saw. But, maybe, just maybe something could change. Maybe just this once he could do something the others couldn’t. The dangerous idea fermented in his mind as he listened to her and simply waited. Waited to see if she would be the one. @Ken

Avery smiled softly "well it's lovely to meet you Tom!" She smiled happily shaking his hand before she took her hand back looking at thr Park with a smile, she started to feel so blessed to be here in the moment, she didn't want it to end. "Oh me? I just moved here a month ago." She smiled "I've been working so much I haven't had a time to reslly explore ." She admitted. When he mentioned seeing anything strange and unique, she could help but pause "well. I have been seeing some strange things ." She admitted softly. "Out of the corner of my eye I always see something shadowy moving around. And if you look closely there's a sort of ripple." She replied softly "I know it sounds crazy, and before you ask my glasses are fine, I had my eyes checked the week I arrived ?" She replied with a soft pout. She had mentioned these things to many people, but people had laughed at her, she hoped Tom wouldn't laugh at herm but she wasn't sure @ChaosKillerX7

Ah. It was a new arrival. How possibly fortunate for him. The idea had taken root and now had fermented into something incredibly dangerous. This only grew exponentially at the mention that she had, in fact, seen something strange and rural. There were already the signs planted and now all he had to was exploit it. He smirked towards her and pointed over towards the edge of the park. “There. You see something?” It was of course a blur to most folks that cleared up and realistically it required the most perceptive of eyes to even understand there was a seam but it existed nonetheless. He moved to dust some idle leaves and dirt from his jacket as he watched her. “I don’t think your eyes are wrong. There’s actually something pretty unique to this city. Really, to the world as a whole.” He started before he paused, eyes glancing to her once more. “Opening that secret means you won’t ever see the city same again. You sure you want to explore it?”

Avery looked at whete he was pointing couriously. She tilted her head to the side "you mean the ripple? Can you see it as well?"She asked couriously watching the blur for a moment, before looking back to Tom with a courious look, watching him dust off his jacket. She raised an eyebrow listening to him talk, she hummed softly looking forward again, watching the ducks swim in the pond, she couldn't help but be confused, what did he mean by there was something unique to the city, not only that but to the whole world. She looked back at him with a small pout. "I can't tell if your making fun of me, or your being serious." She replied in a serious tone. "Either way if you are serious then I'll listen, if not you can have a nice day." She earned him gently grabbing her purse. @ChaosKillerX7

Ripple. So she was able to see it. There was a smirk then suddenly the disappearance of one as he blinked. How odd. Was she special? Was she not? Normally people could not peer beyond that thick veil but yet he had noticed the obvious entrances and exits too. Things that were supposed to be hidden but weren’t. It was obvious something had been happening, but he couldn’t rightly place his finger on it. He instead shot her a polite smile as he beckoned for her to follow him. “Just come. There’s something that may blow your mind. But… first.” He paused, suddenly turning towards her as he spoke. “What’s your name?” The question seemed innocent enough as he studied the woman—suddenly realizing how sudden and odd this must be. Here he was, now opting to just reveal it all to a stranger. Yet, that had been his desire, right? To peel back the curtain just a little bit. The feeling had subsided for logic but now so close to his goal he couldn’t help but want to encourage it just a little bit more.

Avery gave tom a heavy sigh. "Tom, I already gave you my name, remember. When I sat down I said 'oh by the way, I'm Avery.' Did you forget? Do you have some sort of short term memory? Or are you sick? Ehats happening here?" She asked genuinely worried for the other. Avery stood up carefullying putting her bag back onto her shoulders as she looked at him. "Im sorry, but I don't go anywhere with strangers, I learned that lesson from my sister. Besides, if your sick I rather not get sick either. Because that wouldn't be good for me, or you either ." She replied softly. She was both worried, and weirdest out by the sudden invitation to just follow him. She hugged herself tightly watching Tom, she sighed heavily. "Look, I just met you, we are talking about the ripples, and then you just suddenly ask me to follow you? I don't think you mean me any harm, but I can't be too careful. Maybe we can go to dinner or something? Get to know each other....so I know your safe?" She said softly watching his reaction with a worried look. She really hoped she didn't offend him, that wasn't her intention. She just wanted to make sure he knew, she wasn't ready to go off alone somewhere. @ChaosKillerX7

“Sorry. Sorry. Work’s got my mind all frazzled.” It had. How long had it been since he had a vacation? How often had he just been on the prowl and assigned to tasks back and forth between this reality and the next? Of course, he couldn’t necessarily excuse any of his behaviors, but it was hard to recognize what was normal anymore and what was proper on either side. He took a deep breath; the worlds hadn’t ended, and this odd fascination had now begun to take over his senses. He had to reorient himself, find ground and stabilize. What was the training again? “I—uh, look. Yeah, let me make it up to you I’m sure I’m being very awkward and odd. Even creepy.” He’d gesture towards the woman before he pointed out towards the edge of the park, along the walkways that were well-lit and towards a busy section of the city. “There’s a café over there—we can grab some coffee if you’d like—as an apology. I’m not sick, just overworked.” @Ken

Avery sighed heavily "I wouldn't say creepy, I'm just worried." She explained looking at Tom with a soft nod. She listened to him invite her to a Cafe, she had a small voice in the back of her head, begging her not to go, but a larger voice was telling her to do it, what could happen. Well, alot could happen. Avery had this bad habit of trusting people when she reslly shouldn't, so she ended up getting herself in alot of trouble. But the longer she sat with Tom, the more interested she got, she wondered what he meant by the town was unique and strange. That peeked her intrest alot, and hey, she had a 3 day weekend, she was more then willing to go on an adventure . She smiled "sure! I'd love to go to that Café, who knows maybe I will find something I like there." She teased walking closer to him with a smile. "I haven't had a chance to look around the city, so I'd love to be shown a café I coukd go too!" She agreed happily. @ChaosKillerX7

“It’s not a bad place. Kind of expensive due to how it’s situated at the edge of the city.” Tom explained as he gestured towards the walkway. “Shall we?” He asked before proceeding down that same walkway. Around them the small mounds that passed the hills housed trees illuminated faintly by the lamp posts that sat so tall nearby. He gave simple nods towards those who passed and then glanced back over towards Avery. “So, why’d you move into the city?” The question came innocently enough as he gave another sniff, trying to intake some of the crisp night air that surrounded them. “Not many people come here beyond work, let me tell you.” @Ken

Avery nodded softly walking eith him towards the walkway. She hummed softly as they walked, she listened to everything he was saying "sounds good, we shall. Lead the way Tom!" She agreed with a wide happy smile. She walked with him, trying to familiarize herself with the way they talked, that way it was easier to her home, and back to this place if she liked it. She looked at the hills and trees, she couldn't help but feel like she was in the lord of the rings with how many hills there was. She didn't mind, it was things like that, that made her excited for life's greatest adventures. She looked back to Tom and hummed. "Well, for one my dad, he lives in town, I just got home from college, and there was a job opening here. So I decided to give it a shot." She replied with a kind smile. "That and there's something about this place, it just makes it feel magical." She replied with a smile. "And the adventure, I love adventures." She giggled softly. "What about you Tom? How long have you lived here?" She asked him couriously @ChaosKillerX7

Nature had a way of making things seem much more magical than it had any right to be. That of course was ignoring all the crawlies and odd things that evolution produces as a result of some strange behaviors, but Tom never minded it. There were far more odder things out in the world that people never realized. “Ah, I’ve been here for a few years now.” It really felt like a lifetime. But then again, Tom wasn’t complaining. The assignment itself had been a wild ride from start and feasibly would be until its finish. They meandered through the parkway and now neared the edge where cars and bustling people made their presence known. A café existed just across the street where the busy business was overflowing with customers. People eating, laughing, drinking both indoors and out. Tom pointed over towards it. “Plenty of adventures here, ours will start there. You should take your Dad here, it’s a nice place. Though… their coffee could be stronger.”

Avery smiled happily, walking with him to Cafe, just enjoying the scenery. She looked up at Tom and smiled at him softly. "Oh, so what your saying is your the expert I need to talk to about the goings on here." She teased giving him a wink. "Gotcha." She looked amazed when they walked up to the Café, she watched the people eating, laughing and talking. She couldn't help but be so surprised seeing how many people were there. She stopped next to Tom watching the people for a moment, just taking in the atmosphere, it was amazing. As much as she loved the quiet of nature, she also loved the buzz of people. Alot better then the quiet of an office. She looked at Tom with a soft smile. "Hm, maybe." She hummed, thinking for a moment. "But um not sure he'd like it, he's more of a homebody, he likes his private quiet time, will only be around people when forced. But you never know! We could always try." She agreed with a small laugh. "Oh an adventure? How exciting. How is this adventure going to start? Do we fight bad guys? Search a lost treasure? Sail the seven seas?" She teased looking at him with a wide smile. She was excited. @ChaosKillerX7

“If only it were that easy!” If only. Tom still gave a small smile towards Avery as the y walked towards the entrance of the Café. Therein rallied a line but even so, his own eyes could percept the barrier and mirage that laid so heavily over it. Small ripples that if one bent their head and eyes, they’d be able to see the true reflection underneath. Just how many of them were real? How many of them were disguised? The answer wouldn’t come so easily with just a thought and so Tom caught himself hearing the tail end of Avery’s words. He’d offer a polite smile, opting to answer before the front of house seemed to address them. “How many?” “Just two, thank you.” And it was off, immediately towards a table where they were seated and the menu, limited but focused, was handed out. Tom had already decided in his mind far before they were seated what he wanted and turned his energy and attention back towards Avery. “Depends. You can only do so much with the city visible to the naked eye.” @Ken

"Oh , so it's rescuing a princess against 20 dragons. I see, I see." She giggled softly. Happily walking with him into the Cafe. She looked around excitedly looking at all the new things around her, she was excited. Humming softly, the atmosphere felt nice, she kept noticing the ripples which honestly made her eyes hurt, but she kept her smile wide as they walked to the table. She sat infront of Tom, carefully putting her bag down next to her as she looked at the menu. She hummed softly deciding on a water and a wrap. She looked hp at him confused. "What do you mean?" She asked wondering why he phrased it like that. "You can do lots of things, we see the same things right? So I'm jot sure what your meaning by, whats visible to the naked eye." She replied softly looking at him with a frown. "Theres plenty to do, you can hike, fish, swim, shop." She listed as she carefully out the menu down, looking at him. @ChaosKillerX7 sorry it's short! The waiters and waitresses blitzed about them like a coordinated dance. Each had their own part to play and a position to play on the field. A customer complaint here, a customer request there. One table cleaned another set. It was almost poetry in the way that people flitted about gracefully and seemed to dance around in almost perfect unison. Tom, for his part, had greeted their oncoming waitress with a smile and ordered some water when prompted to. “Do you need more time to order?” Tom glanced over towards Avery and once the order was confirmed, he set himself for a sandwich and soup. Then Avery’s comments and questions drew his attention again and he simply laughed. “Yes, yes! Lots of activities on the surface, but there’s always new things below, right? Urban exploring, finding the secret best late-night bars and restaurants, all the nightlife you never knew existed.” He shrugged. “The city has a whole different side to it once you really take a look, but not many people do.” @Ken

Avery watched the waiters and waitresses, move about thr Cafe she was always amazed at how well they were able to move back and forth about their jobs, and fished she was just as graceful as she worked. She had always admired people who were able to balance a life and a job, wondering how they do it and also wishing she had that ability as well. She smiled happily at the waitress eith a smile, ordering her Veggitarian wrapped and lemonade. She looked at Tom giving him a soft smile. He had her full attention. She raised an eyebrow looking at him confused. "What do you mean? Below ?" She asked couriously. "Do you do the night life things Tom? Like finding the secret bars ans such?" She asked him couriously. "I've never been to a secret bar before...you talk strangely about the city? Why is that?" She carefully leaned back in her seat watching Tom couriously. The man in front of her was so full of surprises, she wanted to learn more she couldn't help the couriousity she was feeling, when he spoke. :like a bad side?" She frowned @ChaosKillerX7

“Hah. No, not a bad side. It’s.. different, is all.” He’d give a single wave of his hand as he relaxed into his seat. Before long, the waitress had returned with both food and refills for the drinks and Tom eagerly bit in. What he hadn’t realized after all this time was the fact that appetite and hunger still struck even at a man who was unsure of what was going on and had such a fierce hunger for showcasing something beyond. He’d dip his head. “If you ever want something to do—I can show you about. Though, like I said, it’s…. different, not for everyone. Nothing illegal, either.” @Ken

Avery nodded looking at him couriously. "Okay, as long ad it isn't bad." She agreed.. Avery smiled thanking the waitress , as she happily ate her wrap, she hummed happily "Oh woah, these are the best veggies I've ever had." She smiled looking up at Tom. She hummed happily, she didn't comment on his eating, she just happily enjoyed his company. She smiled at his offer and nodded. "Sure! I'd love to do something with you. The next four days off sounded like the perfect time to dip one’s toes into the proverbial pool. Tom gave a single nod and a slight smile before he continued eating. Slow, thoughtful chews combined wit the occasional partaking of a drink allowed the silence to fill between them. It was only a moment longer before he gestured over towards the distant corners of the café. There a singular man seemed to sit by himself but something more seemed to be lying there. A simple ripple, a rift that one could peel back to see what was beyond. “What do you think he’s thinking about?” @Ken
Avatar
She looked at him confused "who?" She asked looking around the Cafe to see who Tom was talking about. She looked at the man sitting aline, drinking his coffee. She hummed softly, watching the man for a moment. She hummed softly Turing back to Tom giving him her full attention. "Im not sure , he could be thinking a multiple possibilities. Of what he is thinking about. Maybe his life, job, or maybe his children. Or Maybe planning a grand adventure ." She replied eith a smile softly looking back to the man "What do you think he's thinking of?" She asked softly @ChaosKillerX7

There it was the ripple again that someone could peel back. The man himself seemed to have elongated ears for a second and lengthened canines. Was he sipping on a cup of coffee or was that a red liquid instead? Was that red velvet cake or simply something else altogether? It was hard because the ripple soon vanished, and it was simply the man once more. Tom gave a single shake of his head as he leaned back, taking in the man before he gestured. “I can’t say, so many people have so many different lives. Take for instance this homeless man I thought I stumbled upon. Sleeping on the side of the road and just not doing much with himself—when I woke him up to see if he was okay, he was groggy and didn’t know where he was.” The waitress soon came by to collect any dirty dishes as Tom spoke, continuing. “Yet when he was aware and I caught him up, turned out to be a successful business owner. Had a single bad night, took some things he shouldn’t’ve and had wandered around the city for hours before passing out.” @Ken

Avery sat up straighter with a frown, she saw the red liquid and became more confused confused. She blinked slightly, carefully rubbing her eyes as she watched the man. what was going on? She remembered when she was younger, she could of swore her social worker had wings, but she thought she was hallucinating, she wondered if the same thing was happening to her now. She looked to Tom nodding softly. "Poor guy, that happened to my dad once." She admitted with a sad look. "A not polite or nice friend brought him to a party for a joke and slipped something in his drink. His adopted mom found him two days later in the park." She replied shaking her head as she held her glass in her hand. As she hummed. "I try not to judge the best I can, always find out what's happening first, but I must ask, why are you telling me about the poor man you found under a bridge?" She asked looking at him couriously. Watching hom with a soft frown "a-and are you seeing...some of the things your seeing ?" She asked with a frown looking back to the man who was just sitting alone minding his own business. @ChaosKillerX7

“Seeing what things?” He questioned towards the woman as she asked him. There came a curious tilt of his head before he gestured over towards her. “The man was clearly having a bad night and just re-appeared back out there. So, I am glad I was able to find him.” He’d offer a slight shrug before he moved to take back some of his drink, the nice cold water soothing his throat as he nodded to her story. “It’s sad, isn’t it? But we try our best to help those people nonetheless.” He'd exhale slowly before he settled his attention on the woman. “… Are you seeing things?”

Avery gave a small whimpered when he asked if she was seeing things. She looked towards the man with a gulp, she looked at him with a sad look. "Please tell me you didn't bring me here to make fun of me." She whispered "or your not in my imagination, if you are I'm so sorry for bothering you." She said looking at Tom sadly Avery hugged herself as tightly as she could, looking down at her water as sighed sadly. "Look, I've had these conversations with people alot. Expecally when I was younger, and those conversations never end well." She replied seriously. "Im being serious here, are you able to see things as well. Or are you a doctor trying to test me again." An eyebrow raise came from Tom then as he gestured towards her. “Ah, no-one’s making fun of you.” He’d lean slowly forward as he pushed the plate just gently. “And I’m definitely not a part of yo ur imagination. Though..” There was a raise of his eyebrow as a hand gently gestured towards the man again who had looked completely normal up to this point. “Tell me, what do you see here? It’s, of course, natural to see an old man. But there are others that can see more. I’m sorry ,but the questions are worth it—be cause I know people who have seen things. Other things.” @Ken

She nodded slowly as she sighed, rubbing a hand against her pant leg as she looked at him. "Thank you for being honest and not making fun of me." She said softly looking at Tom with sincere look. She took a deep breath looking over to the man, as she looked sad. "Well, the drink, it's not coffee it'd red, l-like a strange red. And the it's a red velvet but then it's morphing into something diffrent. And I see the ripple, but it disappeared." She said looking worried. She looked back to Tom with a courious and confused look. "Others can see the things I see?" She asked couriously, a glimer of hope in her eyes. @ChaosKillerX7

“Others can certainly see the things you see.” Tom gave another smile before shaking his head before he slowly gestured. “The ripples are there and here, like a pool you know? They sort of distort the image. That red drink might be wine, but it might be something else entirely.” Tom shuffled as he looked towards the rest of the surrounding area, nothing had seemed out of place but yet there was something there. “There are places where they more often appear and one where things are most definitely not what they first appeared as. Sort of like… seeing someone far away and then realizing they were someone else entirely, yeah?” @Ken

Avery stayed silent watching the man. She bit her lip as she listened, she felt like she was going crazy, which wasn't something she wanted to happen. She gave him a sad, look as she looked around the room. "Then why does it sound like I'm crazy?" She asked sadly. "If there are other people who can see it then why haven't I met them huh?" She didn't mean to get rude, but she was becoming frustrated, she wasn't understanding what Tom was meaning, she crossed her arms Leaning back in her seat. "Oh? And where are these places, I'd much like to not seem crazy anymore. " He replied seriously as she carefully ran a hand through her hair. @ChaosKillerX7

“Well, not many people talk about it because then it’d reveal the truth. You’d easily dismiss them as crazy as you dismissed me. Or yourself.” The little bit of truth was dropped before Tom gave a shake of his head. “Woah, woah, slow your roll. All in due time. For right now, let’s take it a bit slow—even if I am itching to shove you into the deep end of the pool. Take a breath and look around. What else do you see?” The question came as Tom signaled for the waitress to come by and get another coffee, though if one were to look closely, were her ears elongated or was some trick of the light? @Ken

Avery sighed softly, she nodded. She didn't mean to dismiss Tom amd act as if he was crazy, she was just worried and confused herself. She didn't like the feeling of knowing something, but also not knowing something at the same time. It wad alot of stress and alot of strange feelings. She sighed heavily. "Your right I'm sorry, I'm just...a but worried I am thinking crazily, I didn't relize I made it sound like I wouldn't believe someone else." She admitted softly. Taking a deep breath she nodded. "Right, well I will take a deep breath and calm down, I don't want to dismiss anything ." She replied, giving Tom a small smile. She looked around the Cafe, trying to see whatelse Tom was talking about. When she looked up at the Waitress she paused, looking at her ears Confused. She quickly looked down at her water trying to make it not obvious that she was staring. But she couldn't help it, sighing again she looked at Tom, hoping he'd explain what she had just seen. @ChaosKillerX7

Perhaps a keen eye would've caught it or perhaps a keener eye would've caught the wisps of shadow and light that seemed to be making up the delivery driver who had just dropped off a package at the door to the Cafe. It was nothing that could be grasped on to, you see, but a shimmering famisicle of something that could almost be there. Tom had taken a drink of water and cleared his throat as he watched her. He had remembered when he first thought this was real and only after countless attempts at trying to swim, numerous drownings, and standing at the precise of his mental state did he understand exactly what it was. His voice piped up then. "It might be better too, if we walked around. Or you get some sleep. Sometimes it's just the trick of the light, but sometimes... something magical can happen."

Avery gave Tom a stern look, she narrowed her eyes. She carefullt got her wallet out of her purse to pay for her drink. "You know what, if you are not going to tell me what's happening them I'm going to leave. I am not intrested in your mind tricks, trust me. A man has done this to me before, to admit he seems the wonderful things I do but the next moment he is posting about it online and people are making fun of me." She said serious as she looked at him. "If you wish to talk to me I will give you my number, as long as you promise to take it serious, becauze right now, I'm scared, I don't know what's happening ." She whispered looking at him, tears willing up in her eyes. "Please Tom, if you walk with me, then please talk about what you knew, if not..." She couldn't finish, all she wanted was to know what was happening, because she wasn't sure what was going on. She wanted to know, but she was just becoming more confused. She looked away from Tom, watching people walk back and forth, going about their busy day, she sighed "my dad use to tell me how magical this town is....I'm starting to not believe it." She admitted softly @ChaosKillerX7

Tom wasn't someone that was normal by any means of the imagination. Indeed, with every step he could say that he strayed further and further from normalcy. Yet, when Avery spoke he gave a single nod before moving to pay for his own drink and meal. He'd soon then began to stand up, moving to extend out a card. It was black with silver lining and it simply stated his name and his phone number. He offered a smile of innocence, of sincerity when he spoke. "Trust me, when I say that this isn't the case. That there is something more-- but it is something I can't show you tonight. Take a deep breath and head home. Sleep it off. When you get off work tomorrow, text me, then I'll arrange a meeting place." He'd pause as he spoke before he raised a finger. "... And really think about it. Your life won't be the same afterwards." @Ken

Avery looked at Tom as she slowly took the card, she listened to him talk. She was having a hard time with all of this, the words he was speaking were always sounding like riddles, like she wasn't understanding anything he was saying, she just wished she knew what all of this meant without feeling confused and worried about what he was saying. She sighed heavily as she nodded, carefully placing the card in her bag ad she looked at him. "I have the rest of the week off to finish unpacking, I will keep in mind what you are saying, but what do you mean by my life won't be the same after, is what you are showing me dangerous somehow?" She asked with a heavy frown. This is what she meant, the confusion of trying to figure out what she meant scared her a bit, she was all for adventures and loved them a lot, but the guessing was starting to give her a headache. She sighed heavily as she shook her head, walking out if the Café with him, slowly turning to look at the man beside her. "I will message you tomorrow, that way we can meet up and talk about whatever this is, and whatever will not make my life the same." She looked at him with a sad look. Hoping he would understand where she was coming from with the amount of frustration she was feeling. "It was lovely to meet you Tom, I'll see you tomorrow?" She asked carefully, holding her bag close as she looked at the man, her eyes wide with curiosity. @ChaosKillerX7

“Not… dangerous.” That was a lie in of itself but Tom didn’t really feel like pressing the flesh anymore after what had just transpired. Indeed, this entire thing had been a little awkward and stilted at the same time but at the very least the tracks were rolling and it seemed that maybe they had gotten to at least some kind of understanding now. He moved to clear his throat as he nodded, offering a small smile before he dipped his head. “Tomorrow, of course. Just shoot me a message when you’re free. I’ll give you where to meet up.” Of course, where exactly there was still highly up for debate, but Tom gave a small wave and a final nod before heading out of the café back into the city proper. Now, possibly for the first time, he could finally do his job properly. Maybe this time there wouldn’t be any more mistakes. Well, we’ll see. @Ken

Avery gave a small nod, sighing softly as she relized she was not going to get any awnsers tonight. That was her weak point, having to wait. She wasn't one for patience but she relized Tom wasn't so willing to tell her that night. "Right, I will message you sometime in thr morning. If I do not reply I apologize I'm not the best at keeling up eith text messages or anything of the sort, but I will try my best." She promised giving a bow of her head. She gave Tom one last look before she made her way. She had more questions then she had when she first began to talk to Tom. Buy as she moved down the sidewalk, walking towards her apartment building. She couldn't help but feel anxious, what if she has just agreed to something and can never return to normal? What if this is some scheme to get her alone to be robbed. She didn't think Tom would Rob her, but stranger had happened. For now she would have to wait, wait until the morning, maybe she would actually be given awnsers. But then again, she may just get more questions. The next morning around noon, Avery finally messaged Tom, she had forgotten about the whole encounter until she saw she had a new contact in her phone, then the memories cane flooding . The message read. 'hey Tom, just checking in, still okay to meet you today? I still have alot questions I hope you can awnser. This is Avery by the way' @ChaosKillerX7

The message was read and Tom had thrown away that cigarette he was chewing on. God, he hated assignments—but worse—he hated not having one. And well, he hadn’t had one in a long while. But maybe, just maybe if he introduced a new variable. A new factor, it would more than make up for it. Maybe an assignment would rise out of it. The text was sent and it simply read: ‘Yeah, absolutely, when are you available to meet?’ @Ken

'I can meet in an hour. That gives us plenty of time to find a place and meet up.' She had texted Tom back, looking down at her notebook she couldn't help but look at all the questions she had written down, she worried she would overwhelm Tom and cause him some anxiety, she just really hoped that wasn't the case, she just had a lot of unanswered questions. 'Unless you'd like to meet sooner, then I would appreciate that.' @ChaosKillerX7
