Aurora Calloway BOT 25-Jun-23 12:11 PM
Aurora held tightly onto her cat as she stepped through the streets of Lockinge, looking around wide eyed at the surrounding buildings, the dull lights and… the people. At least, she figured they were people. They weren’t like any other people she had ever seen before, robotic attachments and metal inlays in their skin glinted in the hazy glow and made it hard to tell whether they were some form of advanced robots or people… but whichever they were, they appeared to be the inhabitants of the city down below. It was hard for Aurora to tell the time of day, most of the streets in permanent darkness from the shadow cast from Willowdale above. Aurora found her gaze dragged upwards, turning around and taking in the view of the earth from beneath, the carefully balanced city held up by the support structure to the centre. As she was looking over at it she found herself backing into a strange figure. “Hey, Watch it!” was the raspy voice that scolded her. Spinning around, Aurora found herself face to face with a larger build man with a single, glowing eye that clicked as it switched focus. She watched the light in the eye twist and flex as he looked at her and her heart sank. All colour drained from her face and she gulped back the scream that was threatening to come. Turning on her heel, she bolted through the streets. The cat clutched to her chest mewed disapprovingly as he bounced in her arms, Aurora’s hand grasping onto the ruff of his neck in case he would slip from her arm. She darted as well as she could through the robotic life forms filling the streets, but in her haste she managed to knock into a few with her shoulder. Each one followed with curses and threats being shouted at her, making her run even faster into the darkness. It was a few streets away when things seemed to start to quieten. The streets were not as busy, a few people down some alleyways having suspicious conversations would glance in Aurora’s direction but for the most part, she found herself (edited)

alone. Her pace slowed enough to catch her breath as she looked around, gulping as she realised she had no idea where she was, or where to go. The stories she had been told about the down-below paled in comparison to reality, and right now, the young woman was terrified. The mist filling the streets had coated Aurora’s soft skin in a light dew, and her pastel hair hung limply down her back, sodden and wet. Aurora spotted what looked like an elderly figure climbing the stairs into one of the properties and she darted in the persons direction. “Excuse me… I don’t suppose you can…” she starts, until she hears the clicking of metallic joints as the figure starts to turn towards her. Another one of those… things she determined. Squeaking, she quickly muttered a “Never mind!” before turning to run back to the streets. It was a few hours of walking later when Aurora finally decided she needed to give up and rest. She wasn’t sure if she had been walking in circles, or was now miles away from where she had descended, but either way she had no clue how to get back home. She felt stupid for having gone through with it… the way down had been shown to her by one of the other residents children, who had then commented that there was no way Aurora would be brave enough to descend… and if she wasn’t brave, why was she in line to rule? It had been enough of a challenge that she had packed a small sack to take with her. The cat in her arms had also been an accident, as her loyal pet often followed her around the city and had followed her to the passage down. Now… she had gotten them both trapped. Aurora made her way towards a stone bridge that went across the top of the streets. Within one of the arches she slumped her back against the wall, sliding down softly till she was sat on the ground.

She loosened the grip on her cat, just enough so he could sit comfortably in her lap as she scratched his head gently. “I’m sorry Puddles… this is all my fault.” she commented quietly to the cat, sniffling back her tears as she looked fearfully at the dark streets. “What are we going to do…” she continued, before pulling her knees up closer to her torso, the cat inbetween as she curled up, leaning her head down to bury her face into the cats fur as she cried quietly. @lunar69eclipse

Helios Turner BOT 25-Jun-23 12:40 PM
Helios had been walking home, a bag with some bread to eat, some medication for his father and oil for his and his father's robotic joints in his hands. Everything seemed to be going fine, until he heard a pure one was in town. Someone from up above. Immediately, said story intrigued him, and he began searching for said person. His life long dream had been to go up to Willowdale, he couldn't pass up the opportunity to meet someone from there, even if he knew he couldn't go up there, he'd love to hear what it was like up there. Soon enough, as he searched on one of the bridges, he heard sobbing, and as he looked over, the sight shocked him. Normal, working human legs. That was a thing very few people still had in this town down below. He approached the woman, getting down on his knees to show the pet and her that he wouldn't attack her "Uhm, hey... You okay?" He asked in a gentle tone @Harvest Bunny 🍁🍂

Everytime a set of footsteps had passed, Aurora had flinched herself away from them, but it seemed everyone was too busy rushing about their lives to pay notice to the young woman on the ground. Her cat and wriggled and writhed in her grip, wanting to be free to explore but she dared not release him for fear of losing him. It wasn't as if there was a home for him to return to. Instead, Aurora had remained herself locked in her little ball of sorrow, until she heard a voice. The voice was extremely close, as if it was right next to her, and she heard no immediate response to the question from whomever they were talking to. Hesitantly, Aurora peeked up over her arm to the guy crouched down alongside her. Someone being so close to her startled her, making her jump back and nearly lose hold of the cat, catching him just in time before he had darted from her lap. "Uh.." she muttered quietly, staring in shock. She looked over him, taking in his appearance. He had the odd metalwork here and there, but if she ignored that on his face he looked considerably more human than anyone else she had encountered so far. Reaching her palm up to her face, she wiped away the tears that had been there, giving a sharp sniff to fight back anymore from coming and nodding her head quickly. "Y-yes, I'm fine..." she stuttered quietly, before letting out a heavy sigh. "No... I'm not. I think..." she looked around at the streets, almost hopeful for someone, anyone she recognised to be in front of her. "I think I'm a bit lost. I... I'm not meant to be here... " @lunar69eclipse

Helios smiled a little sadly at her sadness "Of course you're not meant to be here. You're from up top, aren't you?" He asked. "Pure ones shouldn't be down here, what happened for you to come down here?" He asked, sitting beside her as he gently let the cat sniff him so he could pet it @Harvest Bunny 🍁🍂

It hadn't occurred to Aurora that with everyone on the streets being so different to her, she probably stuck out like a sore thumb as being different to them, so she was a little surprised that the guy knew instantly where she was from. She stared at him for a moment before nodding her head slowly. The term pure one's wasn't really something that had been used much back in Willowdale. Though the older generation had a number of names and slurs they would use to refer to those "from below" and impure had been one of them, she hadn't really thought about how they were seen to be by them. "I... guess you could call me that. Coming here was... an accident." She uttered quietly, turning her attention to the ginger mottled cat on her lap. He had stopped struggling so much against her now his interest had turned to the strange figure that had joined their company, sniffing at his hand and rubbing his jaw alongside to let him be pet. The fact her cat had obviously settled to trust the guy made Aurora drop her walls a little. Turning back to him she peered at his face, notably the wiring decorating his skin. "What is that?" She asked, lifting her left had and pointing slightly to the markings alongside his left eye. @lunar69eclipse

Helios nodded, gently petting the cat with a happy smile. Pets weren't something many people had here. Especially cats. The only animals down under were farm animals and strong dogs like bulldogs and dogs cops use. He was happy to see something so cute. "Well, you'd better get used to being around here. No one from bellow can go up. And you're now from bellow. Unless your dad is the ruler of Willowdale you're stuck down here forever" he laughed. When she asked about his markings and wires, he reached his left robotic hand up and gently touched his markings "Ah, these are so my eyes can function. If you ripped the wiring I'd be blind" he chuckled. "And the markings are tattoos put on cyborgs like me." He said @Harvest Bunny 🍁🍂

Aurora visibly bit her lip and gave an awkward laugh as he made a suggestion about her father being the ruler of Willowdale, brushing her hair back behind her ear and muttering a quiet "Yeah... what would the chances be of that..." under her breath. She figured it probably wasn't a good idea to reveal who she was at this point, and she wasn't even sure her father would send anyone to collect her. If he did, what even would be the chances they would find her? Besides, her route down was time constrained and only available during very specific windows. She was aware she had already missed it to be able to get back up, and certainly no one would be able to come looking for her yet either... that had been a fact she had been avoiding thinking of though. Listening to his explanation about the wiring she raises a brow, peering at his eyes curiously. Forgetting her manners a little she leaned closer to get a better look at the wiring, and sure enough it seemed it disappeared just behind his eye. "Cyborg? I... don't know what that is." She admitted, "were you born blind? I mean... were you born?" She screwed her face up, realising she didn't even understand if these were... people... "are you.... human?" The cat on Aurora's lap startled her by leaping from her lap, and she moved to catch him before realising he had merely transferred himself onto the lap of the cyborg guy sitting with them, curiously pawing at the bag of food he had with him and trying to push his head inside. @lunar69eclipse

Helios let her lean closer, humming softly as he let her analyse him. He found her curiosity to be quite funny. "A cyborg is a half human half robot." He explained "I wasn't born blind, no. And yes I was born, my mother was human and so was my dad." He said "And yes, I once was human." He said After explaining it all to her, he looked down, smiling as he watched the cat try to look into his bag. He smiled, taking out his bread and offering a little piece to the cat, before offering the rest of that piece to the woman next to him. "Want some?" He asked @Harvest Bunny 🍁🍂

Aurora let out a quite "Hm" as he explained the situation with his modifications, thinking a little longer on the subject. She had a million questions all flowing through her head and it took her a little bit of time to figure what to ask first. He didn't seem to be taking offence to her quizzing him so she saw no harm in continuing. "So... did you get this... stuff... because you became blind? Or... it made you blind? Does it do other things?" She tilted her head to the side as she asked, peering him over to spot the other changes. She watched as the cat sat back and fixated its eyes on the piece of bread he had pulled from the bag. Just the sight of the food made Aurora's stomach audibly rumble, and she hadn't considered until then the amount of time that had passed. She had hardly had any breakfast that morning due to the excitement of traversing down the secret path to the below and now that was coming back to bite her. As he turned to offer the rest of the bread to her she gulped a moment, peering at it, the cat who was happily biting off chunks of his own piece and chewing wide mouthed, and then back to the guy holding it. It hadn't escaped her notice that the city below was a bit more... in need... than her own home and she felt she couldn't bring herself to take food from someone who probably needed it more than her, especially after she had had fresh fruit, juices and oats for breakfast... even if she hadn't eaten much. "No, no thank you, I'll be fine" she commented lightly, wrapping arm arm around her stomach to try and dull the gurgling and groaning her stomach was making. @lunar69eclipse

Helios nodded "I got my eye upgrades because my eyes were removed, these are a sort of glass, just stronger." he said, reaching his hand up and tapping his eye, the eye making a small sound that sounded sorta like tapping glass. "Oh and yes, it does other things. I can zoom, de-zoom, take pictures, everything a camera can do, and since we all down here have chips in our brains, i also get to see what information is on said chips for each person. Which was why i found it odd when I saw no information or data about you when looking at you." He said. He laughed softly as she said no to the bread "Come onn! I'm offering! It'll be fine just eat, your stomach is begging." He chuckled @Harvest Bunny 🍁🍂

The tapping of the eye made Aurora shiver, imagining putting her finger into her own eye, it certainly wouldn't have been as easy as he made it seem. As he explained the additional functionality Aurora shifted her position, bringing her legs up closer to lean her arms on them once more, resting her chin in her hand. "Chips? So do they put those in when you're born?" She shudders once again. "We... don't have anything like that where I'm from. I mean... I get in trouble just for drawing on my arm in pen. They say it's an affront to the human design to try and modify it in any way..." Aurora let out a heavy sigh, thinking about home was making her sad, knowing she would never see it again. She peered out from under the bridge to look back towards the large pillar that headed up to the sky, holding her home out of reach. Reluctantly, she gave in and took the slice of bread being offered to her, offering him a small, thankful smile before taking a bite. The immediate taste of the bread made her stomach gurgle hungry even louder, and she blushed embarrassed by it. "Thank you. Its hard to keep track of time down here... I dont know how long it has been since I had last ate." Finishing up the piece she reached towards her cat, who had turned to bump his head into the guys chest as way of saying thanks before flopping to his side, giving a yawn. She gave him a small scratch behind the ear. "So what sort of information would be on your chip? Like... your name and stuff?" @lunar69eclipse

Helios listened to her, leaning back a bit as he responded, "Yes, they put them in when we're born. That way it's easier to identify certain people, and also easier for our hospital to have our information if we're in need of help. As well as let police track where we are in case we become a criminal." He said gently. He nodded a bit, "You're welcome. And it's quite alright. For those who don't have chips to tell them what time it is, I assume it must be pretty complicated." He said, looking down at the cat and gently petting it before listening to her words once more. "Ah, well yeah, there's our name, age, blood type, allergies... Everything a hospital needs, but also our location for the police, and all our papers are registered into it so if we forget to bring our papers we still have them on our chip. We also have a way of paying by activating the wallet module in the chip." He said. @Harvest Bunny 🍁🍂

Aurora's brows raised, surprised and somewhat impressed with how much data would be held on such a chip... and it sounded more useful than scary, she found it hard to understand why her father wouldn't have introduced such technology into Willowdale. Although, her father was a little bit of a technophobe when it came to anything that impacted the 'human form' as he put it. He had always likened those from down below to more like feral robots that had lost their humanity. "That is... pretty awesome." she nods slowly, taking another bite of the bread in her hand. "So uh... I can't see yours, just like you can see that I don't have one. So... can you tell me what I would see on yours if I could?" she gave another small smile in his direction. A loud bang sounds in the distance and startles Aurora and, even moreso, the cat currently chill in the guys lap. Her cat lept up with a shrill cry and went to make a dash for it, Aurora just about managing to leap over and grab the frightened animal in time, pulling him in tight to her chest with a quiet "shhh!" to try and calm it, her own heart racing at the surprise of the loud noise as she looked around trying to figure out where it had come from, or what it could have been. @lunar69eclipse

Helios chuckled “It is awesome! And yeah sure, here.“ he said, reaching his hand up. He tapped the back of his hand, his metallic palm parting and letting out a small thingy that created a hologram, letting her see most of his information. As in his name, Helios Turner, his blood type, O-, his age, 22, and any other information a hospital would need. However his job and location seemed to be.. Hidden, for some reason. As soon as he noticed she was done reading, he closed his palm and stopped the hologram. That’s when he heard the bang, causing him to stand up rather calmly, lock the door and shut the curtains. “Come, it’s not safe.“ he said, gently taking her hand along with the food and heading to his bedroom, which had a fortified wall and a heavy metal door. He walked inside, locked the doors, checked the forcification on his walls and window barriers, before relaxing and plopping down on the bed. @Harvest Bunny 🍁🍂

Tilting her head to one side, Aurora watched as he showed her the information that was contained in the trip. She was more amazed by the information coming straight out of his hand than the actual contents, her mouth agape as she took it all in. Like a little digital screen right in the palm of your hand. She hadn't noticed the redacted sections of information, or at least hadn't really registered what that could mean. "That's... wow." she chuckles, looking back to him. "Well, it's nice to meet you Helios." she nods to him, letting out a soft sigh. She finally had started to feel a bit more... comfortable. She was still lost, homeless, and probably in more danger than she cared to admit, but at least she wasn't so alone now. "I'm Au...." she started, before pausing. She wasn't quite sure how much information about her father would be down here, and whether the names of members of his family would also have travelled down. Quickly, she changed her comment. "I'm Rory." Following the loud bang, Aurora clung the cat to her chest and didn't loosen her grip. She didn't really think twice when Helios suggested they should clear out from their position still under the bridge she had taken shelter under, following him through the streets back to his property. She rushed inside with the cat, watching as he locked the door and closed the curtains. "What... what was that noise?" she asked, her voice shaky with panic as she imagined everything imploding in on them. The volume from the streets outside had certainly got louder it seemed once they had headed inside. As he grabbed her hand and pulled her, she didn't put up any resistance, following him deeper into the property. Within the bedroom she turned and sat down on the foot of the bed in the room, finally loosening her grasp on the mewling cat in her arms who was scrambling for freedom. The cat jumped down and immediately began exploring the floor. Aurora stared at the wall opposite her until the weight of Helios ploppi
