Waterdeep, also known as the City of Splendors or the Crown of the North, is the most important and influential city in the North and perhaps in all Faerûn. It is a truly marvelous cosmopolitan city of great culture that attracts the most talented artisans, artists, and scholars from across the Realms, as well as a commercial hub for financial interests along the coast and beyond.

It's currently summer in Waterdeep. Summers in Waterdeep are quite comfortable, and it’s a great time for citizens and visitors to congregate outside. The markets are busier than at any other time of year. Sometimes, though, warm air pushes up from the south and settles in the valleys north and east of the city. This air gets trapped, creating a hot spell that might last days or weeks. Activity in the city slows to a crawl, since Waterdavians are unaccustomed to such heat.

As is common in a city of Waterdeep's size, rumors travel quickly and many of the social elite are quite interested in whatever is the popular trend at a given time. Currently, there are two juicy pieces of gossip that one would be hard-pressed to not have overheard when journeying into town: • It is by this time, an open secret, that half a million gold coins (the currency is known as dragons) have been hidden, somewhere in Waterdeep. Those with powerful connections have been seeking information about the cache and are looking for it. It remains to be seen if the dragons will fall into the hands of good or evil. • There are many factions in Waterdeep who often have conflict with each other, but at this time two in particular are on the verge of flaring into violence. The Zhentarim, a shadowy network of mercenaries, and Xanathar, a local mysterious crime lord, are at odds and townspeople speak of these factions in hushed tones.

The tavern was bustling with townspeople - on a warm summers night such as this one, people were coming out in droves to enjoy the cooler evening temperatures. The air filled with the sound of laughter and storytelling, glasses toasting and hearty food being devoured in preparation for the adventures that would follow. In addition to the travelers stopping at the tavern, The Yawning Portal has its own fair share of familiar faces at the tavern. A gruff human male named Durnan manned the bar, walking briskly between patrons with flagons of mead spilling over. In addition to serving the bar seats, he would fill trays with pints of golden ale, which would be whisked away by Bonnie, the red-headed human barmaid, to the guests at the tables. Pacing around the tavern, is the final employee, Threestrings - a human male bard, so nicknamed because of the harp he played with only three strings remaining. Several frequent patrons accompany the employees as regulars at the tavern. Jalester Silvermane, accompanied our adventurers at the bar - he wore a kind smile on his face, but his eyes carefully observed the comings and goings of visitors to the establishment. Meloon Wardragon also sat at the bar - a well-known adventurer in Waterdeep, it was clear from his thousand-yard stare that he had seen some things. Towards the back of the bar, we see Yagra Stonefist - a half orc female, knocking back pints and conversing with the crowd around her. If her seven-foot frame didn't make it clear that she was not to be trifled with, the long line of patrons she was handily defeating at arm-wrestling would. Finally, in a quieter section of the booths sat Obaya Uday, a human female. Although she seemed perfectly comfortable in the raucous atmosphere, the sight of a patron in clerics robes studying a sizable tome seemed like a sight one might expect in a library, not a tavern.

Recap: • We've met Yagra, who has made a positive reference to the Zhentarim. • We've also met Krentz, who clearly does not like Yagra. He has a prominent eye-shaped tattoo on his skull. • We've heard a little from Meloon Wardragon, who also does not like the Zhentarim and is weary to venture into the Undermountain. • Obaya, on the other hand, prepares adventurers for the Undermountain.

Recap • The adventurers have sent the troll back down to the Undermountain • Everyone has taken a long rest. • The adventurers are currently on a quest to find Floon, who was last seen at the Skewered Dragon in the Dock Ward • It is a very hot day. (edited)

Recap  • The explorers have begun to talk to people in the Dock Ward. • Ryujin and Viviana spotted the aftermath of a deadly brawl. Several men are being arrested, and Ryujin notes that they bear the same tattoo as Yagra. • At the Skewered Dragon, Bronzen gains valuable details on Floon's whereabouts - he and Renaer Neverember left and were followed by 5 men. • Bronzen recognizes "Renaer Neverember" by his last name - in the book given to him by Obaya Uday at the Yawning Portal, there is mention of Dagult Neverember, the current Open Lord of Waterdeep. • The 5 men that followed Floon are known to reside at a warehouse on Candle Lane. The warehouse is marked by a door with a winged dragon engraved on it - the same symbol on the men being arrested, as well as Yagra Stonefist. (edited)

Recap • The group found a mysterious warehouse on Candle Lane. Inside was the aftermath of a battle, there are several freshly deceased individuals on the floor. • The group is ambushed by 4 kenku, who they fight off. • The last kenku is interrogated, and reveals the following information (via mimicry): • “Xanathar sends its regards.” • “Tie up the pretty boy in the back room!” • "Follow the yellow signs in the sewers.” • "No time to loot the place. Just get him to the boss." • The last kenku has been knocked unconscious, but is still alive. • Zedrun and Bronzen have observed a strange section of wall along the back of the warehouse. • Bronzen finds a broom closet, where the group discovers a man who has been hiding who introduces himself as Renaer Neverember • Renaer is a friend of Floon and reveals that he was walking him home two nights ago when they were jumped by Zhentarim thugs, who took them to the warehouse. Later, the Xanathar guild sent a party, including the Kenku, who killed the Zhentarim. Renaer surmises that these Xanathar mistook Floon for himself, and have captured Floon for themselves. • Finally, Renaer explains why these dueling factions were trying to capture him in the first place: his father embezzled a large amount of gold while he was Open Lord, and that he hid the gold dragons somewhere in the city. The Zhentarim think they can find it by using an artifact called the Stone of Golorr, which was in the hands of the Xanathar Guild until recently. The Zhents thought that Renaer knew something about the stone, but he doesn’t - his father and he haven’t spoken in years.”
