Yokai is not simply the Japanese word for demon, as is sometimes believed. They are the embodiment of a moment: a feeling of dread and bewilderment, or awe and wonder over an extraordinary event; or a strange sound or peculiar scent that demands an explanation; an ineffable phenomenon explained only by a supernatural entity.. Long ago, in the mystical land of Japan, there existed a powerful and enigmatic yokai named Hikari. Unlike most yokai, who were associated with darkness and mischief, Hikari was a radiant and benevolent spirit, known as the Yokai of Light… well not anymore Legend had it that Hikari was born from the union of a celestial dragon and a mortal woman. The dragon, fascinated by the woman's pure heart and gentle nature, chose to take on a human form and marry her. Their love was a beacon of hope and harmony, and Hikari was the embodiment of their union. From a young age, it became apparent that Hikari possessed a unique and extraordinary gift. She radiated an otherworldly glow, illuminating the darkness and bringing warmth to the hearts of those around her. And darkness to those that wrong her. Hikari spent her early years wandering through the tranquil forests and picturesque villages, spreading joy and healing wherever she went. The villagers saw her as a protector, a bringer of good fortune, and they would often leave offerings of rice and sake to express their gratitude… that was decades ago… and no one has ever seen her since the “incident”

nestled within the lush mountains of rural Japan, there existed a small village shrouded in mystery. The villagers whispered tales of yokai, ancient supernatural beings who roamed the earthly realm. Among these spirits, one stood out in particular—a Yokai known as Hikari. Hikari was a creature of ethereal beauty, her long, flowing black hair cascading down her back, and her eyes shimmering like the moonlight glinting off a tranquil pond. She possessed the ability to take on various forms, from a serene maiden to a mischievous fox. The villagers had long believed her to be a harbinger of both fortune and misfortune, depending on her mood. The villagers, though somewhat wary, had grown accustomed to Hikari presence over the years. She would often appear on the outskirts of the village, observing the inhabitants from a distance. Some whispered that she possessed a deep longing to connect with the human world, while others believed her intentions to be far more sinister. However, one fateful night, everything changed. A known for his curiosity and adventurous spirit, stumbled upon Hikari hideaway while exploring the forest. As she ventured deeper into the woods, she noticed a peculiar light shimmering through the trees. There, in the center of the glade, stood Hikari, her true form revealed—a breathtaking creature with horns and her skinny tail swaying gracefully behind her. She appeared vulnerable, her usually composed demeanor replaced by a hint of sorrow as if she was reminiscing on something. Or someone, she didn’t even notice that a human was in the vicinity.*

He was stopped in his tracks as his eyes fixed on the lady. It was his first instinct to ask if the lady needed help, but then he noticed the horns and tail. Was this a Yokai? He asked himself in his head. He was going to say something but couldn’t like something telling him to stay quiet, but Obanai would croak something out but nothing. He was curious, way too curious for his own good. He wanted to get closer and look at her beauty, but his body was telling him something different. He wanted to run everything in his body screaming at him to get out of there, but he would remain still, his eyes locked onto her in the moonlight. He didn’t even notice that the lantern he brought was beginning to spill oil on him. The pain quickly hit him. He was so focused on her that he didn’t even react to the oil on him. He would look at her, wondering if this was truly the legendary Mikari the Yōkai the legend, but it couldn’t be these demons weren’t real a legend. Parents told their kids to make them behave, but he needed to take a closer look. He would slowly walk to her, and Barley let out a quiet "He-hello?”

The Yokai pivoted hearing the soft hello that escaped the humans lips, her eyes widen with curiosity wondering why a human was out this late. Especially since there’s been many sightings of supernaturals around.. and not the pretty ones. She’d approached the human summoning up a dampened cloth as she gently grabbed his lantern and lowered it, placing the cool rag on the parts he spilled the oil cleaning him up, her tail gently swaying side to side like she had no issues with a mortal being near her. She always found it amusing on how mortals found her, and quite rewarding when they don’t freak out or try to kill her “There we go..” she spoke her voice laced with honey as the rag vanished, she’d then take a couple steps back away from him to create a distance “Now human.. why are you out this late night? When the suns asleep and the moons out to play.. there ought to be danger lurking as many come out to dance under the moons light..it’s not safe for someone like you to be out in the forest” She said her voice quiet, almost entrancing even as she’d tap her finger on her chin, trying to think of some plausible reason why a human would be traveling in the woods, with a paper lantern. Was he trying to call for attention? Perhaps the moon was covered with clouds this night.. regardless she knew it wasn’t safe for him, but she wanted to know his reasonings.. these humans.. they always have fascinated the Yokai, hence why she stayed in the area to observe their daily lives, what they do, and how they interact… she always have seen humans close up shops early, a little after the sun sets and retreat home and never come out until the next morning, so this was new to her *The Yokai would silently wait for his answer, as the cool breeze entered the cave the winding picking up slightly as she’d feel raindrops hit her delicate skin. Hikari would look out, seeinf the mist of rain wash over as she’d lure the human to come further into her hideout so they wouldn’t be

In the rain, or feel it even. As they got deeper in the hideout, he’d see a nice little set up, a table, some pillows to sit on mugs with no handles some kitchen supplies but no bed* “So, enlightened me human.. why are you out in this now rainy cool night?” @sleepyhead567

He would look at the yokai lady and watch her wipe away the oil from his hand. He didn’t even notice it but was surprised by how kind and gentle she was. He would clear his throat. "I like to go on adventures, and I guess I may have wandered off a bit too far, id say." He was still fixated on her, still kind of speechless, when he saw a yokai. "I was out hunting for my village, and well, I got lost on my adventure around..." He looked at the pillows and other things laying around. "So you live here?" He was genuinely fascinated by her. "Are there more like you? I mean, like, more creatures that are as friendly as you?" he would cautiously walk closer to her "May I ask you a question, ma'am, if you don’t mind me asking?" he stood there nervously still since she was a Yōkai and waited for an answer

“What kind of adventures do you like to go on?” she questioned as she walked to a stone and sat on it. The cool breeze gently moving her hair back, and her golden eyes looking at him calmly nodding as he spoke “So your a hunter? Do you bring food back to your village? Or do you hunt to order your village from beasts..” she spoke curiously. She was cautious as well, she didn’t know if he was here to kill her or just actually know her, but she wasn’t going to show any fear towards him, and she was ready to fight back if she needed to really “I do live here… and there are some creatures like me who are friendly and some who are not.. it depends on how you approach them. Most approach is with hate and rage in their eyes wanting to kill us. And some people are like you, humble and curious” she shrugged watching him approach her with curiosity in his eyes “What’s your question..?” @sleepyhead567

Obi looked at her, still on edge, because she is still a monster. “I’m a hunter, and well, I do both. I also protect my village from monsters and for food, but today I was just trying to map out some areas so we can expand, but I ended up getting lost.” He took a deep breath and looked at her, getting himself ready to ask this question. “Are you the lady they talk of? Are you Hikari? The mystical creature the ones my village elders talk about?” He looked at her; he had no doubt that she was Hikari, but this would be an amazing find for the village. Maybe just maybe she can help his village from the recent attacks from the monsters.
