TW, may contain instances of: Violence/combat, mature language, bodily injury, blood, partial/full nudity The audience hall of Castle Wyndia is active as usual, with servant staff and council members moving about, talking among themselves. Not all are human, as some possess animalistic traits. Couriers, otherwise known as demi-humans, make up a notable minority in Wyndia. Despite mostly making up the servant ranks, there seems to be little difference in interaction between them and humans. Meanwhile, in the throne room, the royal heir and the head steward await the arrival of a new member to the royal court's security detail. "With the completion of their course, I have personally examined each of the cadets that have placed in the top among their peers, and am pleased to say that I have found a suitable candidate to serve as your personal guardian." The steward's tone of voice is as clean and punctual as he is dressed. "As you are aware, with the recent integration of the Courier people into the castle guard, I thought it only fitting that I included one into such a position to serve beside you. I do hope you find their company acceptable." A staccato of footsteps rings out against the noise of the audience chamber as the former cadet walks with purpose to meet her new task. Personal guardian to the heir, the honor! The prestige! A confident smile crosses her face as the doors to the throne room opens for her. @no_faced_angel

Cap tried to stay still, ignoring the urge to mess with a lock of her hair. Being an heir, she tried her best to be presentable; no needless movements, and not letting her eyes wander about the throne room. She listened intently to the head steward, giving a gentle smile. A social being, she was excited to meet whoever was chosen to be her personal guardian. "I'm sure their company will be a welcome change of pace." Her voice was soft, yet audible as she spoke. Before she could say more, she saw the throne room doors open out the corner of her eye. She turned her gaze to the being walking into the room, giving a friendly smile. "It's nice to meet you; the steward was just telling me about you." She greeted. While it might not have been the most proper thing, she tried to have impeccable manners. She didn't want to just stand there, saying nothing. An icy reputation was something she didn't want to earn, least of all someone who was to accompany her as a guardian.

As the doors open, the woman walks forward. Entering the throne room with a casual yet confident stride, the golden irises of her eyes gently gleaming as she briefly scans the room. Atop her head are a pair of catlike ears that stand angled forward and alert. She smiles as she walks up to the princess, having heard her greeting. "Hello, your Highness. I am Rosalia Brennan, it is an honor to be able to serve you." Her voice is soft yet confident. She gives the princess a warm smile, while the steward fails to hide his disdain for her lack of formality. @no_faced_angel

"It's a pleasure to meet you Rosalia." Cap brushed some hair behind her ear, a nervous habit she was doing her best to break. However she caught herself, bringing her hand back down to her side. While she did her best to keep an air of nobility around her, it was still obvious by her body language she was still learning the finer details of her duties. The recent disappearance of her eldest brother bumped her up the ranks; now she had to learn the proper etiquette on top of so much more. Despite the faintest traces of uncertainty in her body language, she still did her best to make sure her voice sounded regal and noble; the softness doing little to stand in the way of it. @sniperterra

"Excellent, I shall leave the two of you to become acquainted while I see to other matters. Your Highness.." The steward bows before leaving the two women alone. As soon as the steward is gone, Rosalia takes a breath and relaxes her shoulders. "I hope it is alright if we forgo some of the formalities and just speak plainly while we are by ourselves. I was warned that the steward was a stickler for it, but..." She shakes her head, dismissing the thought with a shrug of her arms. Her warm smile still present. @no_faced_angel

Cap gave a friendly wave to the steward, but as soon as he was gone she too relaxed a bit more. "I don't mind at all," Cap said, her attention turning back to Rosalia. "If we're to be working so close together, it would be nice." She gave a kind smile, blue eyes shining with a friendly warmth. "Plus, I think it would be nice to have someone treat me more like a person, rather than just solely the heir."

"Alright then! Is there anything else you expect of me or would like to know about?" Clara asks as she shifts her weight onto one foot. Her left hand drifting down to her side and gently thumping the scabbard of her sword that hangs from her belt, a habit of hers that helped keep her grounded and focused. Atop her head, Clara's cat-like ears sit relaxed at an angle to each side. @no_faced_angel

Cap thought for a moment, a hand going to her hair out of habit. "I suppose..." She kept thinking, trying to gether her thoughts. "I suppose I can start with an apology. If I don't behave how an heir should behave, I'm sorry; my elder brother was supposed to be the heir, but due to his disappearance, I am now the heir." Her eyes went to the floor after explaining that. Her brother was someone she looked up to, and was someone more fitting to act as the heir. Being thrown into this role was a bit odd to her, after spending her childhood practically neglected by comparison. She looked back up at Rosalia, giving a tight smile. "I suppose they hired you on to make sure I also don't disappear; we still aren't sure what happened to my brother, so there may still be risks for my safety." Despite the grim subject matter, Cap tried to appear calm. One of the lessons she was learning was how to not portray her emotions; however, she couldn't help her hand that currently was playing with a lock of violet hair out of anxiety. @sniperterra

Rosalia shakes her head, "There's no need to apologize. I'm not from here, the city, so I really wouldn't know how someone in your position should behave. I grew up in the northern territories of the kingdom." As she explains, she gently clasps her hands behind her and wanders a few steps. Her voice is soft, sharing the warmth of the smile she still holds. "I am sorry about your your situation and your brother. I was actually promoted, not hired. But before we get into that, would you like some tea, Ms...?" It was a simple question, one she hoped would help put the young woman at ease. Rosalia was also unsure how to address her, without being rude or too casual. @no_faced_angel

"O-oh! How rude of me." She tugged on her hair a bit again, trying to give a smile as she watched the other girl walk around. "My name is Capricorn Maschka. However, I much prefer Cap. I'm still not used to formalities." Despite still feeling anxious, she did feel a bit better after introducing herself. Her hand ended up going back to her side, although it still fidgeted with her dress skirt. "I also appreciate the condolences. He and I were close as young children; however, nobility is an ever present job. We were barely acquaintances by the time he disappeared." She gave a bit of a humorless chuckle, her eyes again going to the floor. "A-although, I suppose that was a bit more information than needed. Despite the grim circumstances, I'm determined to learn how to be a proper heir to the throne, and make the king and queen proud." She said that, however wasn't sure why she wanted their approval. Chalking it up to it being a requirement, she took a step closer to Rosalia. "However, tea does sound nice. I quite enjoy lavender and peppermint myself; what kind do you like?" @sniperterra

"I enjoy peppermint, but bergamot is a personal favorite if I can find it." Rosalia lets out a purr as she motions for Cap to walk with her. "Growing up, I spent a lot of time helping my mother forage for flowers, herbs, and other things for her apothecary. Tea is a pleasant way to administer medicines and of course, it's remarkably calming." Rosalia walks with Cap, leading her out through one of the side corridors. Rather than going to the kitchen, Rosalia heads towards the room she had been given now that she will live in the castle. "I hope you don't mind joining me in my room. I think it would be both more comfortable and a benefit to know where I will be living now." @no_faced_angel

Cap gave a soft smile as she listened to Rosalia talk about her childhood, glancing over as she walked next to her. "That sounds like a wonderful time." She said, giving a slight nod. "I don't know much about plants, other than their beauty. However, I agree that tea is calming." She walked next to Rosalia, still trying to shake the remaining anxiety she had. Ever the nervous person, she always was in a state of anxiety to one level or another; always worried about her behavior. However, she snapped out of her thoughts as Rosalia spoke again. "Oh! I don't mind." She said, giving a smile. "I do agree; it would be a great asset to know where you're staying." @sniperterra

"Living in the city is such a new experience for me. I have only been here less than a year, training to be part of the royal guard. Now I find myself actually living in the castle itself!" The excitement was clear in her reaction, as well as the pride of the achievement, as she smiles. She brings cap to a modestly ornate wooden door that Rosalia opens and holds for Cap to enter. "Here we are. I arrived yesterday, so I haven't quite made the space feel as if it's my own." Inside appears to be the standard furnishings of the room, all well kept, with the addition of her personal belongings. Cloth and leather bags placed neatly at the foot of the bed and in the corner of the room. A weathered coat hanging from a hook in the wall. On the desk that Rosalia walks over to sits a travel stove that looks well used. "Now for that tea..." Rosalia takes a kettle and fills it with water from a pitcher. Moving it to the stove, closer inspection shows just how travelled it was. The original heating element was gone entirely, replaced with a ceramic dish below the grate. "Cap, would you like to see a trick I use for this?" @no_faced_angel

Cap gave a smile, one that was more bright and less reserved. "I'm so excited for you! I can't imagine how-" Before she finished, she remembered her role, and who she was now. Shyly, she gave a bit of a cough behind her hand. "I-I apologize, that wasn't proper," she said shyly, another hand going to her hair. She walked in through the door, looking around curiously. "I hope that the room is up to your comfort." She said, still trying to act properly instead of how she normally behaved. Used to behave, she corrected herself, watching as Rosalia started to prepare the tea. She tilted her head to the side slightly when she noticed the lack of heating element, but tried to give an enthusiastic-but still proper-nod. "Of course! I do enjoy learning new things," She said, making her way over to where Rosalia stood. @sniperterra

With a small grin, Rosalia holds her thumb and index finger close together. With a gentle spark of magic, a small flame comes to life between her fingers. Placing the flame upon the ceramic plate, it grows to a size suitable for the stove as Rosalia sets the kettle upon the grate. "A simple application of magic that has helped me countless times." Letting the water come to a boil, Rosalia lays out a set of two tea cups and a matching pot. "My florals and herbs are still in..." She looks around for the exact bag before going to it. "This one!" Retrieving a wooden box, she sets it on the desk and opens it up to reveal a number of glass jars. Each one containing dried leaves or flower petals. "Let's see.. Peppermint, here we go!" taking one of the jars, she pours out some of the dried leaves into the pot as the kettle starts to whistle. Dismissing her magic flame, Rosalia takes the kettle and fills the teapot. The aroma of peppermint fills the air as the leaves permeate the water. "A cup for you and a cup for me." She says as she pours. Setting the teapot back down, Rosalia offers Cap a seat. "I do apologize, I don't have saucers for these anymore." @no_faced_angel

Cap watched as Rosalia, giving a bit of an excited gasp as she saw her conjure fire. "That's amazing!" She breathed, eyes wide with excitement. "Magic's always been such an interesting subject to me; I remember learning-" Again, she cut herself off, clearing her throat gently. She needed to stop this overexcitement; her parents would be disappointed if she kept on acting like that. "I-I mean," She said, trying to think of an appropriate way of showing her enthusiasm. "Magic is really interesting; so many practical uses." Despite the tone change, she still had the faintest traces of a smile on her face as she continued to watch Rosalia prepare the tea. She nodded happily, taking the seat offered to her. "Oh, it's no problem at all." Cap said gently, folding her hands neatly in her lap. "One of my favorite teacups has the same problem; it's now more of a decoration in my chambers than used unfortunately." @sniperterra

Setting the teacups in the table, Rosalia takes a seat and looks at Cap. "If it's not out of line for me to say, you don't have to force yourself when it's just the two of us alone." She says before taking a sip of her tea. The soothing warmth causing Rosalia to purr softly in comfort. "As you saw a moment ago, I am magically talented. It was one of the things that brought me here to the city." Her gaze shifts as she glances away. "Though... I will admit, being here as your guardian was not originally my own plan." @no_faced_angel

Cap looked over at Rosalia, a slight wave of relief washing over her. She seemed to relax a little bit, even slouching from her proper posture. "I-it's not out of line," She said, giving a warm smile. "Honestly, I would appreciate it; acting proper is still very uncomfortable." She explained, taking a sip of her tea. Her smile widened a bit after her sip, giving a slight hum of contentment. She listened to Rosalia, intrigued by her story. "Well, the city is a great place for magic casters," She said thoughtfully, her eyes going to the distance for a second as she thought of the shops. "There are so many wonderful places here to grow one's talent; I do hope you get to see them if you havent!" She grew quiet for a moment, almost as if debating something before looking back over. "If I may, what was your plan?" She asked, curiosity sparking in her. "I can understand this not being your original plan, but I am curious about your story Rosalia." @sniperterra

Rosalia nods after taking another sip. "Originally, I was going to take up my mother's apothecary, and maybe even dabble in enchanting on the side. But when my mentor discovered my magic affinity, everything started to quickly change. Hasn't stopped yet, honestly..." She stares down at the cup in her hands as she speaks. Taking another sip to break the stream of thoughts and memories, she continues. "He was an elf, I always thought he was just an old soldier who wanted to pass on his knowledge to someone capable. Only to find out he had been branded a heretic and a traitor by his country. Elves have a very strict view of what magic is and how it should be used. They consider it to be linked to the soul. Mana being the physical manifestation of one's soul. Naturally, they studied intensely on how to use magic both efficiently and in more exotic ways. That being said..." Rosalia finishes her cup of tea before staring down at the cup, both of her hands gently clasped around it. "When it became known that a defector was teaching these methods to a Courier of all people, sending out a team of Justiciars into a neighboring country was the least of their concerns. They had to put a stop to it. That was six years ago." She pours herself another cup of tea, reheating it with her magic. Her hands trembling ever so slightly as she recalls the events in her mind. "They ambushed us at his home. I was able to get away, but the Justiciars... I was hunted until I was confident enough to set a trap. Strenuous use of Light magic and a poison that took weeks to concentrate yielded three dead Judiciaries. The old barn they had set ablaze had caught the attention of a guard patrol. Everything after that lead me to you." Rosalia puts on a tired yet brave smile for Cap. A sense of relief lightens her shoulders. @no_faced_angel

Cap looked over at Rosalia, listening intently to her story. She messed with a lock of hair, biting her lip. "That...that's a lot; I apologize for your experiences," She said softly. Without thinking about it, she placed a hand on Rosalia's shoulder, feeling sad on her behalf. "While you do have incredible magical gifts, I'm sorry you didn't get to realize your desire to take over your mother's business." She hoped she was doing a good job comforting the girl. She wasn't the most socially apt person; growing up with only the servents in the palace, it didn't allow for learning about casual social interaction. "I apologize if I'm not the most comforting person," She added, glancing over again. "I'm trying to get better at that I assure you." @sniperterra

With a soft chuckle, Rosalia places a hand gently on top of Cap's hand. "Thank you. Though, if I had the choice, I would still rather be here. It can be dreadfully cold in Rielle." "Is there anything more you would like to know about me? Of course you are more than welcome to observe my morning drills and routine with the rest of the guard." Taking a sip of tea, Rosalia checks Cap's, asking if she would like more. @no_faced_angel

Cap gave another smile, a small breath of relief passing her lips. "I-it's no problem; just wait until summer, the gardens look gorgeous with all the colors." She paused for a moment, looking down at her teacup. She did want to learn more about Rosalia, but she wasn't sure exactly what she wanted to know. Instead, she opted for a gentle shake of the head, sipping the last of her tea. "Unfortunately, I'm not the best at social affairs, but if you feel so inclined, I won't mind listening if you wish to speak more." She said, the kind smile never leaving her face. "Also, I wouldn't mind more tea." @sniperterra

"Of course." Rosalia uses her magic to reheat the teapot before pouring Cap another warm cup of tea. "I have a sister, while I'm the more socially inclined, she prefers to work alone. I don't see her often, but I have a feeling she keeps an eye on me more than I realize." As she speaks, Rosalia reaches behind her and adjusts her uniform, as if trying to situate herself into a more comfortable position. "I do hope the tailors have the new uniforms ready soon, I would hate to resort to altering these myself..." @no_faced_angel

Cap gave a bit of a war smile as she discussed her sister, giving a bit of a nod. "Siblings do tend to keep an eye on eachother; I like to think my brother did at least when he got whisked away into his duties." She said, a small smile on her face as she recalled her brother. "I do hope you get to see her soon though; I know how lonely it can be to be separated from siblings." She watched quietly as Rosalia talked about the uniforms and tailor, giving another nod. "I believe they're working hard on the uniforms; however, I haven't had a chance to talk with them lately." She explained, again brushing some hair behind her ear. "You can always check in with them to see the progress; at least, I believe you can. They seem patient when I ask about their work, but I'm unsure if it's only because of my status unfortunately." She spoke the last part a touch quieter. Sure, she was determined to learn the rules and be a suitable heir for her parents, one they can be proud of. However, she couldn't deny how alienating and lonely it could be most days. "I think the tailors enjoy their craft a bit too much. They had me standing in my underwear for what felt like hours as they measured and remeasured, discussed different designs, even went as far as asking about everything I know about clothing for Couriers." Taking another sip before sighing. "I admire the dedication but seriously, I just need a space for my tail..." @no_faced_angel

Cap gave a warm smile, genuine laughter bubbling up. "I can understand; the fittings and measurements I had to do for all the different gowns felt similar." She explained, glancing over. "The look on their faces when I didn't have a specific idea for what I would like in a ballgown was funny; they looked stunned when I didn't know the difference between a scoop neck and a sweetheart neck. Although, I'm still unsure about the difference." She couldn't help but continue laughing over the memory, a genuine smile on her face instead of the reserved polite one she kept practicing and using. The heir looked almost completely different now that she was more relaxed. Eventually, her laughter died down, and she took another sip of tea. Rosalia nods happily. She was also amused with the thought. "Of course, and imagine their frustration when they find out that I've never worn a dress at all! Skirts were never practical in Rielle, too much snow and icy wind." Finishing her tea, she smiles. Another reason she was thankful to live in the city was for the warmer weather. Satisfied with the tea, Rosalia smooths out the jacket of her uniform. The rich green material was embroidered with leafy vines of golden thread. While lacking an outlet for her tail, the uniform fit her surprisingly well. @no_faced_angel

Following along behind Cap, Rosalia walks with a crisp stride. While still appearing orderly, it was clear she was uncomfortable having her tail tucked into her pants. Her gaze scans the halls ahead of them as they walk, she wants to familiarize herself with the layout of the castle as well as the people who frequent each area. As the two women walk down the corridors, servants, maids, and other staff step aside and bow politely to Cap. Rosalia also receiving recognition from the other Couriers as they pass. It still felt strange to Clara, being in such a place as this. It felt like just the other day that she was a simple adventurer foraging and helping where ever she could. @no_faced_angel

Out of the corner of her eye, Cap could tell Rosalia was uncomfortable. She felt a slight pang of empathy for her; while she couldn't fully relate, she knew how uncomfortable clothes could be. She remembered her fittings for corsets and internally shuddered. As the palace staff bowed to them, she'd give a cordial wave and a smile. She knew it was probably impolite, but she was still someone of compassion. She didn't like feeling alienated completely, so showing this small kindness was her way of tethering herself to her morals. Eventually, they reached one of the rooms; a stuffy older gentleman standing in front of two tables. Cap took her seat at one, motioning Rosalia to sit at the other one. Soon after, the man started droning on etiquette; going off about the dos and don'ts of interacting with other royalty. Despite being cordial, it was apparent the man wanted to be anywhere but there; Cap always assumed it was because he (as well as many other tutors and staff) preferred her brother over her. "So, what was the main thing this course has taught you today your highness?" He asked. "Do not accept a token from any royalty unless I would like them to court me." She answered, her voice back to the soft, calm tone she had when she first met Rosalia. After he gave a nod, he dismissed her, and she got up to walk out, her movements holding a subtle amount of eagerness to finally leave the stuffy room. @sniperterra

Rosalia had to admit, while completely dull, it was at least interesting to get insight as to how these tings worked. As she stands up, she couldn't help but to further inquire for the sake of her job. "Excuse me, but regarding accepting tokens from other royalty. How would it be perceived if I were to collect said token for her?" While standing straight, Rosalia holds her arms posed in reflection of her curiosity as she asks the instructor. While it was obvious that he had little interest in being there, or likely entertaining her questions for that matter, Rosalia holds her attention on him. @no_faced_angel

Despite being eager to leave the lesson, Cap slowed herself down. She was also curious; it was something she hadn't thought of before. Then again, she also didn't think accepting a small gift was the same as saying she wanted to be courted, so it was all news to her. The man was already getting ready to leave, but paused as Rosalia asked her question. He turned to face her, the harsh look softening into one of thought. "A great question miss." He said, the words slow as he tried to figure out the answer. "I would assume since you act on behalf of her highness, it would be the same as she herself accepting it. I would recommend avoiding accepting any tokens on her behalf to avoid confusion." He explained, his words picking up speed as he became more sure of his answer. @sniperterra

With a polite nod, Rosalia gives the man a soft smile. "Thank you, I will keep that in mind." Returning to Cap's side, she opens the door for her. She could understand now why the princess loathed these lessons. The weight of expectation was almost palpable. Once in the hallway and putting the instructor out of earshot, Rosalia comments with a soft voice. "If it's any consolidation, I couldn't help but follow along with the lesson. While insightful, it was quite dull..." While what they referred to as the royal training academy for the palace did prepare her to protect the princess, Rosalia couldn't help but feel out of line when conversing with her while in the presence of others. @no_faced_angel

The unfinished part of her sentence hung in the air between the two, causing her heart to grow heavy in her chest. Sure, the duo weren't that close anymore at the time of his disappearance, but it didn't mean she didn't miss him. Shaking her head slightly, she tried to think of what else she had to do today. With as polite a shrug can be, Rosalia shares in Cap's humor. "As your shadow, I'm not sure if I can assist in that regard, but I shall be there with you regardless. Perhaps we could study together?" There is plenty Rosalia has to learn, even more that she wishes to explore. As they walk, Rosalia does what she can to listen to passing conversations. Eavesdropping has always been a bad habit of hers, but one that has always seemed to prove useful. "Those were five gold Lei each! And twice as much in silvers!" "Refugees from the east? That's absurd." @no_faced_angel

Cap gave a nod in response, glancing over with that same small smile. "That sounds like it'd be fun; I haven't studied with anyone else before, maybe it'll be helpful?" The maids that helped raise her always chastised her, telling her it was unbecoming of someone in her position. So instead, she tried to mentally go over her lesson today, as well as different scenarios the lesson could apply to. @sniperterra

She hopes to be able to visit the library on her spare time. She could only imagine the wealth of knowledge stored there. Her thoughts are interrupted as a young voice calls out her name from up ahead. "Miss Brennan! I have a delivery for you, Miss Brennan!" The page boy trots up carrying a long, slender wooden box. A red satin ribbon wrapped and tied around it. "Thank you. Did they say who this is from?" Rosalia raises an eyebrow to the boy as he hands over the box. "No, Miss, I-I mean Ma'am.. The parcel was left by the front gate." The boy stutters a bit as Rosalia's attention turns to him, but her warm smile puts him at ease. That is, until he notices Cap beside her. "Y-your Highness!" He gives a hurried but polite bow. "I'm sorry, I need to be back to my duties!" With that, the page leaves as quick as he had arrived. With a chuckle, Rosalia looks over the package. "Strange, I don't believe I ordered anything else beyond the uniform alterations." @no_faced_angel

“Oh! Well, I do believe I have a private study, but I’ve actually never used it.” Cap admitted, chuckling a bit. “I prefer to study in the library; it’s always been a comforting place, even as a child.” She smiled softly to herself after she spoke, memories of just sitting in oversized plush chairs with a stack of books half her height coming up. However, she was pulled out of her reminiscing as someone approached with a package for Rosalia. She eyed the box curiously as Rosalia took the box, remaining quiet until the boy noticed Cap. Before she could speak to him, he had already bowed and run off. Despite that, she did give a small wave as he hurried off to continue working. “Take care,” She said quietly, a pang of loneliness striking her chest. Sure, she was used to everyone being polite and revearing, but it didn’t change the fact it just made her feel more alienated than anything else. She shook it off though, her attention turning back to Rosalia. “Maybe someone sent you a gift?” She offered, her eyebrows furrowed. “Either way, gifts are always fun to receive! Here, we can go to the library and you can open it up and see what you’ve received.” She added with a smile, continuing to walk on and towards the library. @sniperterra

Following Cap to the library, Rosalia continues, "That's the thing, I haven't told anyone yet about my position here at the castle." Glancing around as she walks, Rosalia couldn't help but notice a mix of expressions from some of the chancellors and knights. It relived her to to receive nods of acknowledgement from the knights, but from the chancellors, she couldn't help but feel that they disapproved of her being where she is. Arriving at the door to the royal library, a member of staff holds the door for the two women to enter. Upon seeing them, one of the librarians greets Cap. "Welcome back, Your Highness. We made sure to preserve your workspace for when you wished to resume your studies. And.. Whom might your guest be?" @no_faced_angel

Cap gave a small nod of acknowledgement, a quiet hum of curiosity sounding from her. "Hm, well I'm sure it'll still be an exciting gift." She assured, a small smile on her lips. Being preoccupied with what she was supposed to study, she didn't notice the looks and expressions Rosalia was recieving; rather, the others in the hallways blended in the background a bit. Knights, chancellors, everyone blended in to some extent or the other, and it wasn't because she felt above everyone. It was quite the opposite; seeing as they had the same expressions and behaviors, they just didn't stand out to her anymore. As they entered the library, she gave a smile and wave to the librarian greeting her. "Thank you." She said, dipping her head in respect. Once she was done, she gestured to Rosalia. "This is my personal guard, Rosalia. She'll be joining me with my studies today." She explained, her smile both not leaving her face and revealing nothing more. @sniperterra

"Oh, wonderful! If either of you require any assistance, I will happily assist in any way I can." The librarian welcomes the two women into her little domain. Towering bookcases fill the large room, filled with books, tomes, and scrolls of various size age. Before the librarian has a chance to move on, Rosalia makes an inquiry, "I am interested in furthering my understanding of apothecary. Is there any works that you would recommend on the subject?" After pausing the think on the question, the librarian responds, "I do have a volume or two that may meet your expectations. I will have an aide bring them to you in a moment." Rosalia smiles and nods, the librarian gesturing to them into the room before dismissing herself. Rosalia looks to Cap with a supportive smile, "Shall we?" @no_faced_angel

Cap smiled at the librarian as she explained she'd be there if they needed anything, going to walk to her usual little alcove in the library before hearing Rosalia ask about apothecary books. She lingered for a second until she and the librarian were done with their exchange, and gave a nod and a smile. "Of course," She said, continuing on her way. She couldn't lie, it was nice to have some company; it was kind of lonely to be by herself all the time. The pair quickly made their way to a small sitting area; a small table sat in the middle of a few wooden chairs. She gestured Rosalia to take a seat, then walked to one of the bookshelves close by. "Usually there's books that covered what I studied that day on this bookshelf," She explained, quickly glancing over at Rosalia with another smile. "They're usually over here because this is my favorite spot; that, and I may have a nasty habit of forgetting my books." She added sheepishly, eyes searching for a book about etiquette. She gave a quiet 'aha' as she pulled a book off the shelf, returning to the table and opening the book to it'

Setting her package on the table, Rosalia gives it one more check for any traces of magic or tampering. It seems to be perfectly safe. As she carefully unties the satin ribbon, a card that was tucked under it falls away. For Rosalia, K Rosalia smiles at the card, recognizing the simple signature. "What did you get for me this time...?" She says softly before opening the box. "Oh..." Inside the box is an ornate sword, sheathed in a polished dark oak scabbard. Rosalia carefully lifts it from the box and inspects it closely. Pulling the sword from it's scabbard partially to inspect the blade, she is greeted with the sight of a rather thick blade forged in a silver alloy. Two thin fullers run down the blade offering parallel grooves. The metal is polished to a mirror finish. Rosalia gently touches the flat base of the blade, feeling a curious tug of magic coming from the sword. @no_faced_angel

Cap was engrossed in her book, finally having found the correct chapter she had to study when she heard the quiet noise of a sword being unsheathed. She glanced over at Rosalia, eyeing the sword for a second. "Was that the package?" She asked softly, an enthusiastic smile gracing her features for a moment. "It looks absolutely stunning!" She gently placed a bookmark in her book and closed it, wanting to hear Rosalia's thoughts on her gift. "It seems fitting for your job too; it looks like it'll serve you well!" @sniperterra

"It's a spell sword, I can sense a catalyst within the blade. Much like one within a wand or magic staff..." Her voice trails off in thought as she examines the maker's mark at the base of the blade. "I don't recognize the mark of the bladesmith, but this is a uniquely made weapon." Rosalia smiles as she returns the blade fully into it's sheath. "And like I was saying about my sister, this was from her." Setting the sword back into the box, Rosalia takes a seat across from Cap, waiting for the librarian's assistant to bring her requested books. @no_faced_angel

Cap gave a small nod, still looking enthusiastic despite looking a little bit lost. "Well, it's wonderful your sister sent you such a lovely gift! I wonder what the catalyst would be." She said thoughtfully, staring at the table for a moment before shaking her head. "Ah! I should get back to studying; my tutor is already cross about having to reteach everything he taught my brother." With that, she went back to reading. Despite trying her hardest, everything having to do with court matters never seemed to stick in her mind; or at least, never seemed to make sense. While she got wrapped up in her studies, the aide the librarian mentioned came around the corner with the books Rosalia had requested. "The apothecary books you requested ma'am." The aide said quietly, dipping her head in respect and placing the books on the table before disappearing back into the rows of shelves. @sniperterra

Rosalia thanks the aide as she delivers the books she had requested. Reaching into the bag on her belt, she sets out a small leather bound book and a small vial of ink. a moderately sized quill is tucked away inside the book which she moves between her fingers as she opens the bottle of ink. reading and scanning through the first book, Rosalia makes notes in her own book of recipes and procedures. A soft smile finds it's way to Rosalia's lips as she sits across from the princess, both studying diligently. It was a sense of both pride and accomplishment for her, to be where she is, after everything that has happened that brought her to this moment. Behind her smile, a quiet purr vibrates in her throat. @no_faced_angel

Cap kept studying quietly, reading and rereading the pages in front of her. Sure, she knew what the words meant; the statements and rules just didn't seem to make sense to her. Why would anyone automatically assume accepting a gift is a go ahead for courtship? And when it came to proper decorum during meetings with other nobles? She was completely lost. Even though she was the princess, she knew her reputation and status completely depended on appearances. When she had heard Rosalia's quiet purring, she felt a smile of her own crossing her lips. At least one of us is enjoying the study time, She thought, a small chuckle escaping her as she went back to the book. Tucking a small lock of hair behind her ear, she let out a small breath of frustration. Her brother had to have been super smart to understand all these social rules. @sniperterra

After a short while, the purring stops as Rosalia's attention is pulled further into the book in front of her. An expression of confusion and frustration now taking over her face. Still taking notes, she quietly thinks out loud, complaining about the specifics of the content that has caught her interest. "How am I going to get my hands on these and still have enough time to use them before they lose their properties?" After thinking for a moment, she twists to dig through her bag again. Pulling out a neatly folded canvas map. Unfolding it beside the open book in front of her, she checks the various locations before leaning back, giving it all a confused and somewhat stumped expression. "There's no way I can source these natively..." @no_faced_angel

By this point, even though Cap was reading, her brain wasn't registering any of the information in the book. She had no idea how in the world anyone expected her to remember all these rules; even her brother had his whole life to learn-- Rosalia's words snapped Cap out of her spiraling thought process, her head jerking up a bit as if startled. She watched quietly as she took the map out and looked closely at it. "What do you need to source?" She asked, her voice barely above a whisper. She glanced at the map, almost as if trying to get the answers from the canvas itself. "Maybe if they're located close enough, we can find them easily..." She kept staring at the map, her eyes flitting from one location to the next. Her gaze paused at a location relatively close to the kingdom, the faintest traces of a smile crossing her lips before shaking her head. "A-at any rate," She cleared her throat, looking back up at Rosalia. "I think I've spent enough time studying for today. I think if I try to read one more page, my head will explode." @sniperterra

With a soft chuckle, Rosalia gives Cap a smile and a nod. "Alright. If I may say, I think it admirable that you give this the dedication that you do. I hope to one day become someone you can feel comfortable enough to confide in." It sounded ridiculous saying it out loud but it felt right. The princess was working so hard and struggling to meet the expectations placed upon her. Being her personal guard, Rosalia hopes she can become someone the princes could truly trust. Rosalia carefully picks up her notes and materials, as well as taking care of closing and neatly stacking the books that was brought for her. @no_faced_angel

Cap felt her lips curl into a small smile at Rosalia's words, giving an almost too enthusiastic nod. "I-I appreciate your words!" She said, a spark of some emotion flashing in her eyes for a moment. As a child, she only had one friend who she felt comfortable confiding in; and even then, that friend was a commoner she wasn't allowed to see again once she had to fill her brother's role. So the idea of having someone else she could confide in was a welcome one indeed. As Rosalia gathered her things, Cap gathered her own, and once the two were ready, they made their way out of the library. She glanced over at Rosalia as they walked, still smiling a bit. "Anyway, you didn't say what you needed to source. Maybe I can try to help?" Although her last sentence was phrased as a question, it didn't feel like one to her really. Even if she was a princess, she still wanted to help the people close to her, including new friends. @sniperterra

"I was looking at two particular ingredients that serve as a base for different antidotes. Both, however have a rather short potency once cut." Rosalia picks up the box containing her new sword. "The obvious solution would be to transplant an entire specimen, moving it here so that it can grow in it's own garden." She looks back to the princess as she finishes, the expression on her face making it clear that the solution would be rather costly if not wasteful. "How about your studies, is there anything I could do to help?" Being Cap's personal guardian meant she will be close by and readily available to her at all times. It put Rosalia in a position to assist where she can. @no_faced_angel

Cap gave a nod as Roaslia explained the ingredients and what she needed. "Hm, well I do think a garden would make the most sense, especially if it would help with potency." She said, biting a thumbnail as they started walking. The idea of a garden was one she had thought about before, but always shrugged the idea off. She remembered the time she tried keeping a few flowers, only to stop tending to them once her studies started. The wilted mess was a heartbreaking sight to the young woman. However, she snapped out of her thoughts when Rosalia asked about her studies. "O-oh! I mean..." She struggled for a moment, the thought of her studies falling to the wayside when she thought of adventure. "Yea, I should focus on my studies..." She added softly, looking slightly defeated as she looked at the ground. There was so much weight on her shoulders to take the mantle, to become well-informed enough to be married off and make the kingdom stronger with well-gained allies, but the idea of seeing the world was... "I mean, it's also important to learn about other places," She said softly, glancing over at Rosalia for a second. "As a princess, I should know more about not only my own kingdom, but the surrounding ones as well. What better way than hands on?" She kept thinking through the reasoning she had, slowly giving a nod before becoming slightly more animated with it. "If it turns out to benefit yourself and your own studies as well, that's an added bonus, right?" She asked, a slight look of excitement in her eye. @sniperterra

Rosalia smiles at Cap's enthusiasm, it was nice to see her want to be engaged with the role she was expected to uphold. "I- we can bring that idea to the steward and the captain of the guard. If we can get their approval, maybe something could be arranged." She shifts her grip on the box in her arms, moving it to a more comfortable position. "Now that I have a personal weapon, I can return the one I'm borrowing from the castle armory." A personal weapon, it carried with it a sense of pride. Rosalia had been told that the castles blacksmith only accepted commission from Knights or others of higher status in the court. A pang of worry knots in her chest as she wonders how this new possession would be received by the others. @no_faced_angel

The gentle smile ok Cap's face grew a little bit more as Rosalia agreed to have them speak to the guard. She hadn't left the castle in ages, always being confined in order to study. While she wanted to do her best, she also wanted at least one adventure before she took on her royal duties fully. "I'm sure they'd agree if we explain it properly." She added. The young woman seemed more animated with the idea; her body language was more relaxed, as was her tone. It was almost like seeing a flower come back to life after giving it a little water. When she had brought up her weapon again, Cap gave another nod. "While I'm not familiar with weaponry, I am sure it must be nice to have your own." She chimed in, doing her best as not to fidget. Most of the time, she'd have to remind herself constantly; after all, it wouldn't be a good look for the future queen if she couldn't sit still during court. "Especially with something as intimate as a weapon; I often overhear knights boasting about how more natural it felt to spar with a sword made specifically for them." She wished she could try to relate on a more personal level, but she simply couldn't. She always had her own things, never having to share or borrow. While she was grateful, she was also sad. "I hope we can go," she said quietly, after a moment of silence. "If I'm to be queen, I want to know what life is like for the common folk; I need to know rather. That way, I can support my people the best I can." @sniperterra

Rosalia gives her a nod, agreeing with her insight. "I've never had a weapon of my own. Only my magic. I will need to practice with it, to familiarize myself with it's characteristics." A physical weapon isn't the same as one created by magic. You can't control its weight or its balance. "I have no doubt that they will want to test my skills further before trusting me with your safety in public." It was already an unheard of situation for a Courier to hold such a position within the castle. It worries her to think of how the idea would be received after having spent just one day working beside the Princess. @no_faced_angel

"I suppose that's true," Cap said softly, thinking again. In her excitement, she had forgotten that her new friend hadn't been at her service for long. It would make sense for the steward and captain to be cautious, especially considering her brother. However, she shook her head. She was sure it would work. "I've never handled a weapon or magic." She added, tucking some hair behind her ear. "But I'm sure with enough practice, you'll do well in no time!" The encouragement felt genuine, and she could feel a sense of happiness from being able to talk so genuinely. It felt nice to speak like this again. @sniperterra

"I will do my best, whatever is needed for me to better serve you." Rosalia gives Cap a confident smile, although the smile was more for herself in this moment. As much as Rosalia wants to dismiss them, anxious thoughts begin to form and linger in her mind. They do not trust you. You are beneath them in their eyes. Who are you to fill the princess's mind with such thoughts? Her tail fidgets within the confines of her uniform. Looking around before looking back to Cap, Rosalia changes the subject for the sake of her wits. "Can you help me familiarize myself with your schedule? The steward gave me one version of it, but I would like to understand it they way you do." @no_faced_angel

Cap couldn't help but allow her own smile to grow a little bit as she watched Rosalia smile with such confidence. She was so used to people acting more reserved around her, that it was refreshing to see something she saw as genuine. Once the question of her schedule popped up, she gave a nod. "Yes! That's a good idea." She said, her smile softening some as she remembered the dynamic between the two again. For a brief second, she had allowed herself to set the fact to the side. Despite that, she had snapped back to her senses. "Well, normally I'm to awaken at six in the morning, so I'm able to get ready for the day; a bath while someone chooses my dress and the chef prepares breakfast. Then, I'm supposed to work with my mother as to get hands on experience with becoming a queen; that usually lasts until lunch though. After lunch, I normally have to listen to my tutor to learn things that aren't exactly able to be taught hands on; like the courting lesson I had earlier!" As she spoke, the enthusiasm she had in her voice seemed to wane. Talking about the monotony of every day was about as exciting as watching the grass grow in the courtyard. Speaking about her schedule just drove the point home, especially with how much learning she was expected to do on a daily basis. "After my lessons, I have free time; although, that may be a bit of a misnomer. My father and mother say it's free time, but they expect me to continue to study until supper. By the time supper is finished, I typically get ready for bed." She gave a bit of a dry chuckle as she finished her explanation, although there wasn't any humor in her eyes. "I-I know it's boring, but if it's what's expected of me, I'll still continue to do my best!" @sniperterra

Right after being assigned to her position, Rosalia's belongings were moved to the castle from the academy within the city. Cap thought for a second, a quiet hum managing to escape as she did so. "Well," She said quietly, fighting the urge to fidget or bite her thumbnail. "I normally spend most of my time in the library...and ever since I took on this mantle, I haven't been able to see the one friend I have..." After a few quiet moments, her eyes lit up. "Although, I could show you the tea garden!" She said excitedly, the spark of excitement from earlier making a return. "It has a lilac bush that I love to sit by with a cup of tea, and there's also lavender and roses! The gardener tends to them so well, mostly because the one time I tried to, it didn't end well." She admitted, a weak laugh punctuating the sentence as she turned down another hall. "Here, I know a shortcut!" With that, she led the way through a few more halls before slipping through a door. The doors opened into a smaller courtyard; nothing that could compare to the main courtyard where garden parties would be held. However, there was a small table and chair set, right next to a rather large lilac bush. Cap's smile seemed to grow; for once, she seemed completely relaxed. There didn't even seem to be the baseline anxieties thar followed her wherever she went; it was as if the pressures of her position had faded, leaving only a lady who's youth truly shined. "I like to sneak out here sometimes, if I know I won't be missed." She explained, looking back over at Rosalia. A warm smile rests on Rosalia's face as she looks over to the setting sun. She basks in the last few minutes of warmth as it slowly slides behind the castle wall. Looking around, she had no doubts of the garden's safety. Yet she couldn't shake the feeling of being watched. "It's lovely here. Quiet, private." She takes a deep breath. "The gardener gets irritated if I just take a sprig of lilac to my room; not that he says anything, but I can read his body language well enough to know." She still seemed more relaxed than before; an aura about her that showed her true age. She watched the setting sun quietly, either unaware of how Rosalia felt, or not acknowledging it. Being the heir, she always had a nagging feeling of being watched; it wouldn't be too far off for her to just assume it was normal at this point. When Rosalia mentioned being alone, she gave a nod, her body language returning back to how it was in the palace for a brief second before she relaxed again. "I understand!" She said, glancing over. "Honestly, I don't believe I've had a moment to myself in months. Other than baths and such things of course, but even then a maid waits for me on the other side of the door." As she explained, she felt a twinge of resentment, but quickly burried it again. It couldn't be helped; she had to step up after all. Her family needed her to be the heir, to pass on the bloodline in her brother's place; she couldn't allow herself to feel selfish now. "It can't be helped; I've grown used to it." She added quickly, eyes widening some as she realized how she could've come across. "A-anyway, let's head to the dining hall; it must be getting close to dinnertime. It probably wasn't something she would like to hear, but it was something that needed to be known. Maybe she could give Cap the gentle push that she needs, the feeling of safety to fully embrace her role. The two women walk back into the halls of the castle. As the two women walk the halls of the castle, Rosalia monitors the people moving about. Castle staff tending to their duties, Chancellors and advisors discussing courtly affairs, nobles standing about. Rosalia is still unfamiliar with what roles they hold here in the castle, however it is obvious to her that they hold a fair bit of influence. She overheards bits of conversation as they pass. "Can you believe they are allowing demihumans to hold positions within the guard?" Demihumans. Under her uniform, the fur of Rosalia's tail flairs out at the mentioning of the word. Humanity's name for Couriers is derogatory at best. Implying that they are some lesser form of being. She lets out an annoyed huff, hoping the princess doesn't take notice of her agitation. Letting Cap lead the way to the dinning hall, Rosalia tries her best to remain stoic, for her own sake as well as for the princess. @no_faced_angel
