It was a rather risky debut. The Devinche family was willing to begin an all out war with their rivals. They wanted to be the only respectable jeweler in town, with not a speck of competition. Kai Elo's father, Giono, had his sights set on the mountains of money that would come his way if he could only rid the city of any other jeweler that dare defy him and his decades-old family business. They had decided that a select few of men would go to the opposing store, scope it out, and bring back any information they could in order to be one step ahead of the others if that meant they would win the battle for the top.
"You may not go with them, Kai Elo. You will be recognized." Yet, here he was, suffering the consequences of his disobedience of that day. He and some of the men had gone into the jeweler, and for a while Kai had believed that it was going fairly smoothly - until he had been spotted by one of the young women behind the glass counter. "Hey... isn't that Giono's son?" She said, which sparked an all out brawl over the countertops of the jewelry store. Somewhere along the brawl, one of the goons of their enemy had grabbed Kai's jacket, which had a few important items stashed away in the pockets.
A family heirloom, a cash clip that had the family name engraved into the solid gold piece, and a piece of paper that had his father's safe combination that he had poorly handled. After all, the combination number should've never been written down in the first place. His father would kill him if anyone ever managed to break in and take their things that had been stashed there... which is why he stood outside of the large home, allowing the pouring rain to wash over his clothing and soak him right to the bone. A sigh left his lips, puffing out a cloud of cigarette smoke from his last drag before he would drop the butt and snuff it out with his heel.
