Archmage Magnus BOT 17-Dec-21 02:57 PM
Hello there. This is an idea I had for a long-term RP in which my character, Archmage Magnus, would get in a romance with his apprentice. Of course, that would happen after some time of them going through many things together. Now about me... I am Emperor, a 20 year old amateur writer from Brazil -- Timezone GMT -3. I have been roleplaying for over 9 years by now and prefer to keep things literate, although I know length can vary and everything. Plus, I am aware that life gets in the way as well. Now, for the starter... I guess.

Archmage Magnus BOT 17-Dec-21 03:21 PM
Context: Arcana. The power of the famous mages from the continent of Avaria. When one is born with Arcana, they are bound to it for the rest of their lives -- Their destiny becomes harsh as some pursue them as if they were accursed and some pray as if they were blessed beings. Truth be told, it wasn't hard to understand why they were deemed as enemies -- ever since the beginning, mages have had a strong potential of turning battles in their favor and completely destroying their opponents. To protect these rare individuals, many institutions were built throughout the continent with the purpose of protecting those born with the powers of Arcana -- in reality, however, most only trained mages to become weapons to their kings and queens. The Order of the Iron Mages, led by Archmage Magnus, would be the first of these institutions to be independent from any nation, although it came at great costs. Without protection from the neighboring kingdoms, it was just a matter of time that any of the self-righteous kings would demand that these mages were to be used as tools. Magnus only acquired true independence for his people after the army of mages had defeated every single enemy that dared try to invade them. Thus, the Decree of the Three Emperors was signed and the Order of the Iron Mages became the first truly independent institution, housing and school for mages. A safe heaven for those born with the Arcana.

Archmage Magnus BOT 17-Dec-21 03:36 PM
Starter: When Magnus fell to the ground, he was truly defeated. Devon, the Antimage, was the perfect match for a man whose Arcana is stronger than others. When the Archmage and the Antimage meet in battle, nothing can be expected apart from the destruction of the whereabouts. Although seemingly impossible, Magnus was still alive when the other mages had found him. He was suffering from intense pain as his entire body was filled with deep and long cuts from the Antimage's sabre. What kept Magnus alive, though, was his own Arcana working to save him. The Archmage bears an Arcana that only he possesses in the entire world. It allows him to control his own blood and, although being considered the strongest Arcana, using it recklessly could cause his own demise. The Archmage would only wake up a few months later, his wounds already recovered. He found himself on his bed, wearing only a pair of black baggy training pants. When he looked around the room, he saw his friend Jeremy taking care of some paperwork. "...Je...Jeremy..." Magnus called, his voice broken. "Magnus? Thank Vilezar you're alive!" Jeremy said, excited to see his oldest friend still breathing. "Where is... The traitor...?" Asked the Archmage, the visions coming back to him.at every second that passed. "Devon has escaped, Magnus. He betrayed us, stole important documents and managed to escape from our grasp. You have been sleeping for a whole cycle!" Explained Jeremy, now worried.
The trial: After a few more weeks in recovery from the trauma, the High Council of the Iron Mages determined that Magnus, our Archmage, shall now be accompanied by an apprentice at all times. It is of great importance that this apprentice has the potential of learning under a strong leadership and can help the Archmage defend himself, if necessary. The High Council of Iron Mages calls for every mage and warrior alike to answer for this trial in a quest to save the world.

Ravenna Crowe BOT 21-Dec-21 10:49 AM
Ravenna sat in a small carriage; the curtains drawn to keep out the bright winters sun from penetrating her delicate senses. Currently the ebony haired woman was sporting quite a nasty hangover. “I’m just saying that this is your last chance Rave. You need to make this stick. There are no more arch mages who would want to take you...” A man with similar features spoke in a serious tone, though quiet enough not to upset her current delicate state. A sigh would leave her rose hued lips as she removed her hand from her face to reveal bright green eyes which held a hint of annoyance. “Yes father, I am very aware of my current circumstances...” She crossed her arms and leaned back into the seat. “Now can you please let me rest before we get there?” They still had quite a bit left of the journey and she didn’t want to be a sour mood once they arrived, that never went over well with her magic. The problem was that Ravenna’s powers seemed to feed off of her emotions, and by such when she experienced large wells of emotion her magics would literally implode. Many a time had Ravenna caused destruction with her mood swings. She couldn’t help it, and the pivotal moment in her life happened just a few weeks prior. Her mind taking her back to that awful night... .
The night air was chill yet moods were warm and high as music had filled the air around them. People clapping and dancing in the garden square as they celebrated the winter’s solstice. Ravenna had been sitting, sipping some cider as she waited for her significant other to come and ask her for a dance. The problem was, that she had been waiting for over half an hour and the man still hadn’t shown. One delicate foot tapped on the hard stone floor as her patience finally ended. She muttered a simple locator spell and was directed to the apprentice's barracks. She set down her glass and made her excuses to Arch Mage Ryune before departing the festivities. With each clack of her heel down the hall the closer she came to finding out a truth she wasn’t quite ready to accept. Her hand reached out to open the door to her boyfriend's room only to stop. Beyond the door the sounds of pleasure could be heard. A bed squeaking rather loudly and then she heard his voice, the same voice that had told her the same words that came out of his mouth. “My moon, you’re beautiful.” A thrust and groan as he apparently emptied himself into whoever was with him beyond the door. White hot rage overcame her, in the blink of an eye metal from different parts of the hall came undone and swirled around her violently. She lifted her hand and her eyes, now all black surged the metal forward with a loud boom. The door shattering to pieces revealing two startled naked bodies entangled on the bed just a few feet away. A scream, metal piercing the man in the leg, his arm. “I fucking loved you, you asshole!” A redirect of her hand and the metal lifted him into the air. “Get bent” She twisted her hand and the guy flew out the window, landing safely in the pool outside, if not a little worse for wear. Her dark eyes turned to that of the blonde elf in the bed and just as she was about to slap the wench Arch Mage Ryune stormed the hall, binding her magic and taking over the situation.
. By the time Ravenna snapped out of her memory that had arrived at the inn that was a few miles down the road from the rumored Arch Mage that had disappeared to recover after an almost fatal loss. If Ravenna looked past her misfortunate incidents and heart-break she would find that she was quite excited about the aspect of becoming the legendary man’s apprentice. The only problem was that she was unsure if she could keep her emotions stable enough during the competition. Once her father got their lodging taken care of they retired for the night, for in the morning things would finally start. And mayhap, a better life for Ravenna would begin.

Archmage Magnus BOT 21-Dec-21 01:22 PM
Archmage Magnus was still in bed when he had received word of a new coming apprentice for the competition. All he did was look up at his assistant and say a few words that expressed his current feelings. "I don't need an apprentice." He told Jeremy. Although there was some conflict in his words -- He knew he was in dire need of having someone watch over his back, although his last apprentice didn't end up with the best of futures. "Sir, after your last encounter with Devon it is clear that you do, in fact, need an apprentice. You have been defeated, Archmage... You can't risk yourself like that again. There are many things at stake." Jeremy had told him, to which Magnus only sighed and nodded in agreement. He didn't have enough strength to go around giving more and more arguments as to why he wouldn't need someone by his side after, in fact, not only had he been defeated but he was also put in the face of danger. Once Jeremy left, Magnus finally got up from his bed -- Slowly at first, the wounds he had were extremely serious and there's still a lot of bandages wrapped around his chest, belly and arms. In truth, Magnus felt horrible. One reckless action not only almost got him killed, but almost brought ruin and chaos to the Order he sworn to protect with his life. One reckless notion where he decided there would be no retreat from his part in the face off with the traitor. One mindless action that caused him to break all of his promises. The voices still echoed in his mind. "I promise I will protect you with my life, Elaina. I love you." That phrase slowly gnawed at the back of his mind, the sweet voice of the woman who he once knew as his wife, the person that once trained him to become his own best form and, as if it wasn't enough, the wife that died to protect her husband. She was killed in front of Magnus when they both had to defend what was once known as the School of Mages.
At every single time the man went to sleep, he would keep having the same nightmares over and over again -- Elaina laying on his arms, waiting for her death to arrive. Her blood all over her husband, which kept trying to the best of his extents to help and protect her, once more failing in defending his loved ones. The other nightmares would be of when he lost his family -- Murdered in cold blood by bandits as a young Magnus watched helplessly from inside a closet. The loss of those people turned Magnus into someone who wouldn't rely on others for anything. The man simply avoided building ties with other people as he feared that they could perish as well, in case he failed to protect his loved ones once more. After a while of daydreaming nightmares by the edge of his bed, Magnus finally took hold of himself and got up, slowly walking out of his room while dressed with nothing but a pair of dark purple baggy training pants, black leather boots and the bandages still worn on his chest. He fastened his pace a bit and soon arrived at the entrance of the Iron Mages Barracks, where the competition would start to choose a new apprentice for the Archcommander. Magnus slowly walked out and personally greeted every participant one by one.

Ravenna had woke early before the sun had risen in the sky to practice her magic. She had to go pretty far from the inn just to be safe. If she was going to keep things from exploding and people dying by accident then she needed to tire herself out a bit before the competition. The air had a crisp chill to it that helped her wake and remove the last bit of sleep from her system. Her tight-fitting black dress had no adornments, as she didn’t want the metal to cause problems. She had a fur covering over her shoulders but it was kept together by strings. Ravenna kicked off her shoes and felt the frost-bitten grass and dirt underneath her feet. She centered herself, finding that connection to the earth that she valued more than anything. It was cold to be sure, but that didn’t bother Ravenna in the least. Taking a deep breath that fogged as it left her lips, she centered herself and held her staff in front of her. The dark oak staff sported a blue crystal that her and her father had went to mine together in the Mountains of Bicarress. It had taken them weeks to make the trek, but in that time, she had discovered her strong connection with the earth. Her father had been proud of her then, she had only been at the ripe age of seven. Most mages from Guriel Peninsula didn’t get their magic until the age of twelve. She had enjoyed being the first so young, but she had been naïve in thinking that because she had acquired magic so early that it would have been easy. The gem on her staff began to glow as the memory came to her, the gem letting of a vibrant white light before a burst came forth, a small golem formed where the shot of magic had come from. She was sweating now, as the spell she had chosen was rather complicated. Yet she felt that with the size she had created it shouldn’t have taken too much of her magic to hinder herself in the competition. Ravenna wanted to test how well the thing would listen so she had it do some simple tasks. .
The forest would be ripe with medicinal herbs and such so she settled on having the golem help her collect some herbs that may be of help to the Arch-Mage. She knew that he probably had access to a lot of things but it wouldn’t hurt to show good will toward the man. She was sure Arch-Mage Ryune had sent a letter detailing her previous mishaps and to already start out stunted frustrated Ravenna but there was not much she could do. After she had a basket full of herbs, she realized she wouldn’t have much time to shower before she was to be at the barracks and had to rush to the inn after dispelling the golem. It would have been dangerous to leave the thing. After a quick bath and change of clothes she took the basket and hauled her ass over to the barracks. When she arrived, she realized the Arch-Mage was already there greeting the contestants. She swore under her breath and rushed to the end of the line. Her ebony hair a wild mess, her breathing ragged as she clutched the basket trying to keep her nerves calm.

Magnus had been attending to the contestants and pretty much had been "orchestrating" the entire ceremony. As everyone gathered, they started giving their offerings to the Archmage. Most of them were rich people who had managed to make part of the institutions that sold themselves instead of resisting the pressure coming from the neighboring nations. Only a few remained to be truly dedicated to magic, such as the institution led by Archmage Ryune. When the contestants started handing out their rare and precious gifts, such as carefully and well made colars made of gold and precious stones, the Archmage couldn't help but to feel... Disappointed. There was nothing in those gifts apart from money and the embracement of materialism, something of which Magnus explicitly went against. However, once Ravenna approached with the herbs, she already started picking Magnus' liking. "Hm... She didn't bring me anything that is expensive, instead she brought me herbs... She used her time for this, she put a lot of thought into what to give to me. She seems like a good contestant... I'll keep my eye on her." He thought, looking at her and smiling as he picked up the herbs from Ravenna and gave them to his assistant. "Place them by my room." He ordered, Jeremy quickly leaving with the herbs as Magnus kept greeting and inspecting the contestants. After they were all finished, the Archmage stood at the center of the doors leading into the Iron Mages Headquarters. .
"Contestants! A new phase will be approaching your long and hard task of striving to become the apprentice of Archmage Magnus of Jagon! This new phase will be composed of many tasks you shall perform where you will be pushing your endurance, strength and resistance the most you can. But do remember! The importance of said tests is not to prove who is the strongest of body, but who is the strongest of will! The victorious will be the one that will push himself to the limits and go further! The one that will not give up easily! Now, make yourselves ready and go to the training area just outside of the barracks to the left!" He shouted, then taking place just in front of the many contestants and starting to sprint in a steady, medium pace towards the training area. "If you can't keep up, you might as well GIVE UP! Remember, everyone that is in here has given BLOOD to be here! YOU MUST BE, AT THE VERY LEAST, HUMBLE ENOUGH TO UNDERSTAND THAT OUT OF HUNDREDS, ONLY ONE WILL BE MY APPRENTICE! AND YOU MUST BE HUMBLE TO UNDERSTAND THAT IF YOU AREN'T COMPETENT ENOUGH TO BE HERE, YOU GIVE UP BEFORE I MAKE YOU GIVE UP!" He shouted, this time sounding more harshly, more like a rough commander this time.

Ravenna had been thrilled at the introductions. No one else really seemed to understand the meaning behind the gifts and. Out of all of them, hers was the truer gift. There were some of the other contestants tht snickered at her and made jokes. She clutched her hands together at her side and counted, she was trying her best not to get angry. After the Arch-Mage made is introduction speech her heart started to thud against her chest. She kept with the rest of the contestants as he yelled at them. She thought she had given plenty of blood to magic, though she supposed she was no better than any other contestants who was there for fame and riches. She had taken just as much of blood as she had given. Someone bumped into her pushing her out if the way and she narrowed her eyes. She caught herself from falling and got back into a decent rhythm. When she saw the guy who had shoved her she increased her speed to get infront of him. By the time everyone arrived at the training center she was the closest one to the Arch-Mage.

"EVERYONE, PUSH UPS!" Magnus shouted, quickly jumping to the ground with his arms flexed, ready for exercising. "I'LL START AND YOU FOLLOW! IF YOU CAN'T KEEP UP, YOU NOW WHAT TO DO! IF YOU DON'T PUSH IT TO YOUR LIMITS, YOU WILL BE PUSHED ASIDE AND ELIMINATED!" He ordered, starting to do push ups. He would continue to lead the first exercises without caring about the injuries his body is sustaining. After the push ups, they started doing sit ups and then later on, squats. By the time Magnus was finished, about a quarter of the contestants had already given up. In all truth, the fun hadn't started yet. As Magnus got up from the ground, most of the contestants were trembling due to the exercises. Those who were stronger kept it up with ease, but those who didn't allow themselves to break were the ones truly looked for and carefully observed. After the warmup, Magnus then took everyone into the Iron Mage's Tutoring Hall, where they would be asked questions and would now have to put their minds to use. He ordered everyone to sit on the cold stone floor and started looking at the contestants. "You." He pointed to someone randomly in the crowd. "What is the most important rule for a mage?" He asked.
"Power!" They answered. "Wrong." Magnus replied. Suddenly, a rush of freezing cold water hit the contestant, which quickly got up and walked away, abandoning the competition. "Anyone wanna try their lucks?" He asked.
