Coté || Jose Maria Escobar BOT 16-Aug-21 11:26 AM
It was a slow day at the restaurant thankfully. They were painfully understaffed after the head cook's violent outburst. He was practically barred from entering the clientele area due to his volatile temperament, which left Coté playing the role of a waitress/hostess for the day. At the "bar" she had pulled up a bar stool to sit by the register to fold silverware and wipe down cups to keep herself occuped . She had warned indy two hours prior that whenever she mopped, a storm was quick to follow behind. The cook had laughed at her superstitious nature; yet the moment the man stepped outside for a smoke break his cigarette fell victim to a well aimed rain drop. That had made Cote feel smug. Likely if the rain continued like it did, she had a feeling that shed spend the rest of the day bored out of her mind. It wasn't as if she had a cellphone or a book on hand to occupy her idle attention span. Hopefully, someone would walk through the doors to at least bore her in a way she was paid to be.

Uncomfortable. That word, William felt, rather summed up how he currently felt. Icy cold water dripped from his nose as though it was a leaking faucet, his skinny frame drenched through. He felt chilled to the bone, teeth chattering at an alarming rate and his body quivering from the cold. Each sodden step taken through the downpour become less and less of a pleasant stroll and more and more of a chore. His sodden socks seemed to squelch, the holes in his sneakers allowing the rain to slip on through. Wrinkling his nose, his entire body convulsed as he let out a sneeze. Sniffling, the blonde haired boy squinted through the rain to spot the faint haze of lights through the grey gloom. He knew of the location, yet he'd never been inside. But seeking some shelter and respite from this storm would be lovely right now. He hesitated, then stepped forth into the building. Water dripped from his frame as he moved to the bar. "He-hello?"

The bell over the door rung mutely, announcing a new customer. Raising her head, Coté looked over the unfortunate who had entered. He could not be more than a few years younger than her, but it was hard to tell with how thin he was. William seemed soaked to the bone, water dripping as he approached with caution. She wanted to be angry, if anyone else had tracked that much water into her work, she would have turned them out on their ear. "Howdy stranger," the young woman greeted with a slight accent. Rising from the seat she had dragged over, she smoothed her leggings as Coté drank in the strangers features. Kid looked like he had it rough. Taking a cup, she dug it into the ice chest before think better of it. The shaven woman dumped the ice back into the chest and produced a menu for the stranger. Turning, Coté placed a chipped white cup by the coffee burner as she spoke, "got caught by the down pour?" The woman made small talk to fill the otherwise grim silence that sat thickly like the dust on the decorations up on the top shelf.
