the first thing I notice about the shipmaster is the black lines etched into his skin, everywhere. His hands, arms, neck, and even one side of his face have black tattoos like scrollwork all over him. I brighten when I see this fortuitous sign. The tailor knew his fellow loyalists, and this man was a direct descendant of Kay Empire, a strong traditionalist who's family had held political sway over one thousand years ago in an empire that no longer existed. He seems to be deep in thought, but I approach anyway, unable to keep the smile from my face.
