“You will never amount to anything. Why couldn’t you be more like your brother?” A deep pang of resentment shivered through the boy’s limbs, making him tremble as he cast his eyes towards the ground. “Sivenellis will be king, and you will only ever be in his shadow.” “I will not.” He spoke up, turning his hardened features up towards the angered king. “I will be more than you ever were, and more than he could even dream of.” A harsh hand came down on the boy’s head, buckling his neck and causing him to crumble to the ground. An exasperated breath left his lips, as the concrete kissed his cheek. “You’ll learn your place, boy... before you lose it.” —
“Your highness, the prince has been bedding with a strange woman.” The room was dark, cool... a crouching servant pleading for mercy with his forehead pressed to the ground and his hands covering his eyes. “A maid... they’ve been together for the past few nights. I’m afraid for his—“ but a threatening hand was wrapped tightly around the back of his neck, pulling him to his feet and forcing him to face the eyes of his king. “And yet you failed to tell me this the first night they were seen together. What a disappointment.” A quick shove sent the small slave flying into the ground, a sickening crack of his head meeting the tile. “Sebastian! Get rid of him. And... make him suffer.” From the shadows, a cloaked man emerged, his icy gaze piercing down at the nearly unconscious man, “yes, father.” “Please! Please you don’t have to do this!” The man begged, kicking his limbs as he was drug along behind the prince. “I truly do. Your king demands me of it, and I will not disobey him.” Shrill screams filled the lower levels of the castle that night, hours on end of merciless torture ridding the servant of anything that identified him as a human. Blood painted the cool features of the younger prince, striking fear in the many other servants he passed in order to return to his chambers. Not even his own reflection startled him, as his gaze locked onto the horrific sight of a monstrous man. “You will never amount to anything, Sebastian... know your place.”
Drip. Drip. Drip. The sound of water cascades along the empty halls, darkness engulfs every crevace and corner not even a cricket dares to make a sound. Clunk. Clunk. Clunk. Silence unfolds, broken by the banging of steel against armor. "Master, we must tend to your wounds," a voice whispers through the halls. There is no reply, as the clunking continues, and the sound of dripping water is soon drounded out. "Please, Master... you're bleeding." The figure which spoke leaned towards the much taller form in before her, trying to place a bloody rag on the oozing hole on her master's side. A quick response left the tall man's lips, a growl accompanying his flinch when his wound was irritated by the insistant servant. "Get off of me, pet." The armored figure spat, placing a large caloused hand on her shoulder, pushing her away with aggresion, "I will not rest until he pays for what he's done to me..." Darkness scattered as a torch was ignited by the man's will, held high to illuminate his home in the dim light of the flames, "his queen... such beauty... not born to a royal family... Rose." "What about the queen, master?" The tall figure begin to lumber towards the door at the end of the hall, stopping once his hand wrapped around the handle of the door. His head turned to galnce back at his servant, his features hardened with the effects of years of brooding... and splattered blood of his enemies. "Find out what you can about her." —
A sharpened blade pressed to the fragile skin under the man’s throat. Blood smeared off of it’s metal, coating his neck with the blood of his own father. “Killing me will do nothing. You’ll loose everything,” his voice rasped as he pushed against the blade, merely wincing at the sharp pain which resulted from the weapon cutting into his skin. “You’d murder your own flesh... and blood... without blinking an eye? Without a hearing? How respectable, Sivenellis.” “There is no need for a trail when you committed multiple crimes against this family! You and father deserve nothing but a cold death, and no one to remember your name. You’re a traitor, a cutthroat!” His knuckles began to pale as his grip on the sword’s handle tightened, the pummel at his hip and the point at his brother’s throat. “I’ve no mercy for men like you. You bow beneath the Blood King, or have you forgotten that as well!” “I’ve forgotten nothing. I’ve not forgotten how our father betrayed me, belittled me all because his precious Sivenellis was to be his successor. I became a bastard, hated by the one man that I truly looked up to - all because I was born second.” “You are a bastard, Sebastian.” The exclamation rang through the halls of the castle, a deep roar of anger that shook the very walls, shattering whatever might’ve been left of the defeated brother’s heart. “You’re a liar, Sivenellis...” he croaked, but his shoulders sagged, and his eyes avoided the green gaze which lay like daggers on his features. “Mother would never had done that to Father.” “Why might I lie? You kneel before me, pathetic, wasted away.. what more could I accomplish from this?” “Liar!” Sebastian roared, a fire bubbling up in his chest which stripped him of every ounce of mercy he held within himself for his brother. His hand flew up, wrapping around the blade which threatened his life, the pain of an open wound absent in his blind rage as he leaped at his brother’s throat.
A grunt of surprise left Sivenellis’ lips, as he was tackled to the ground, rattles of armor echoing against the cold stone walls. “Fool! Mongrel!” Insults flew passed his lips as he pinned his brother to the ground, his grip on his vulnerable throat tightening with each moment. “B-broth-er...” The King gurgled as he struggled for breath, his own hands wrapping around the wrists of his attacker. There was no relent, nor mercy, merely a tightening of his grip as his rage blinded his heart. His vision began to darken, death prickling at the corners of his subconscious, until his hand found the handle of his dagger, pulling it from it’s sheathe and sticking it deep in between Sebastian’s ribs. “Gah!” The man yelled, arching his back and immediately releasing his brother’s throat. Air flooded his lungs just as blood filled his brother’s, causing him to flop over to his side and press into his wound desperately. He rolled over onto his side, his icy gaze focusing on a singular stain on the roof, as if it anchored him to the living world. The pain seemed to fade away, as shock filled his limbs and chase away the firing receptors. “No... no no no, Sebastian!” The king sat up, curling his arm under his brother’s head and pulling him into his lap. “Guards!” He bellowed into the hallway, hoping that someone would be near to fetch the physician. “I’m sorry... I never meant...” “You deserve... what’s coming to you...” Sebastian managed to gurgle between his gasps of desperation for air, blood trickling down the side of his mouth and dribbling against the cold stone. “Mother loved you...” Sivenellis whispered, ignoring the pure hatred that his brother held for him, “I wish you had met her... though Father was not your father, she loved you all the same.” Tears came to his eyes for the first time since his mother died, trailing down his cheeks and mingling with the crimson blood which stained his pores. “You are worth so much, despite what father told you.”
His words meant nothing to Sebastian, but they resonated inside his head as the world faded away. Darkness consumed his vision, and he accepted death. —
A loud bang frightened the heads of three maids, causing them to look up in urgency even as they tended to their King. The room was musky with steam, a tub of piping hot water held the burly man within it’s depths. “Your highness! The queen is giving birth!” The guard that had burst so loudly through the doors exclaimed, a tinge of both excitement and concern laced his tone. A collection of excited gasps exuded from the maids around the king, exchanging bright smiles and blinks of elation. “Let the woman give birth, I want no part of it,” the king groaned, as he lay his weary head back on the lip of the basin. His company’s excitement faded away altogether, at the revelation that the king did not care for his soon to be child’s birth. “Your excellence..?” The guard said, a quizzical look crossing his features. “Did I stutter?!” The king bellowed, “be gone!” The maids flinched under the wrath of his tone, casting uncertain glances to one another and the guard- who gave up and turned to leave. “Ungrateful wench... I wish sufferance upon her labor,” the king mumbled, relaxing his tense muscles as the women continued to drag washcloths along his scar-ridden torso. Agonized screams tore through the hushed tones of three nuns, all who crowded around a young and beautiful woman. She kicked the white sheets down to the foot of the bed, thrashing around as the contractions overcame her senses. “Make it stop!” She screamed to the sisters, “it hurts!” “It will all be over soon Milady, just push and your son will be here soon,” cooed the eldest of the nuns. “Hush, my child, accept this as a blessing, embrace the claws which tear at your insides... breathe...” her grey eyes met the icy blue’s of the Queen, who glared up at her through her lashes. “Sister! This pain, I’ve never felt before!” She warned, another contraction of her body leaving her crying out once more her back arching off of the bed and sweat dripping off of her temples. (edited)
The door to her chambers opened and closed quickly, and with a slight jolt of her head did she find the royal physician standing beside her. “Amariah...” she breathed, her green eyes clouding with tears just as he reached out and took her hand into his own. “I’m here... Gaelli.. I’m here.” The man pressed a cloth to her head, his brows knit in worry and lips set in a firm line. “Push, my love...” The two ignored the hushed gasps of the nuns around them, suspicious glances shared between the three even as they continued to tend to the queen. She had begun to settle, gasping for what precious air she could receive between the relentless waves of pain which flooded her body... but it was short lived, the feeling of her child writhing around just above her hips had sent her into another unforgivable tidal wave of agony. The white dress that hugged her small frame suddenly began to darken, a deep crimson red staining the fabric between her legs but refusing to stop. Within moments, it seemed, the bed was covered in blood and with one more cry of affliction and tense of her body, the cries of a child swept through the air. The pain did not end, but it did lessen, so even with the feeling of a thousand swords tearing at her insides, did she lay her head back to rest. Amariah moved to the foot of the bed, lifting the skirt of her dress and picking up the crying child. The elder nun offered him a blanket, which was quickly wrapped around the slick skin of their baby boy. “Gaeli... we have a son...” he whispered, as he looked down to the shivering bundle of blood and pale skin. “Might I... hold him?” The Queen whimpered, a small smile creeping across her tired features. Once the child was lain on her chest, she wrapped her arms around the baby. “Beautiful..” the nuns that had surrounded her stepped back, casting uncertain glances towards one another.
“Amariah... p-promise me.. you’ll take care of him.” She begged, turning her clouded eyes back to the physician, tears rolling down her cheeks and goosebumps raiding every inch of her body. “We both will, Gaeli. Don’t speak like that.” “I’m dying... my husband will not love him as he does Ellis. He.. he will need a father.” “No... no Gaeli, I will not allow this. You’ll live.” Amariah said, as his hazel eyes filled with tears, “I beg you..” he croaked. “His name.. is Sebastian. He is your honor, Amariah.. promise me you’ll raise him well.” She said, her grip around the child growing weaker by the moment. “I promise,” Amariah whispered to her, laying a hand over her own and his other on her cheek, “he will know love..” “Ellis... where is my son?” She begged, hissing softly at a stab of pain in her torso. “Let me see my son.” One of the nuns turned and ran out of the room, a flurry of white the last thing to be seen out of the corner of the queen’s eye. “P...promise me... you won’t let my husband ruin our son. Teach him honor, and bravery.” “I promise you, I will not fail our son.” The doors flung open not a moment later, the nun reappearing with a child no older than 8 on her arm. “Mother?” The night called, his happy features immediately churning downwards, “mother!” He flung himself onto the bed, glancing down to the blood, then the child, then his mother’s paling features.
“Ellis... my son.. this is your brother, Sebastian. You must know, that I love you both so very much. You must help your brother grow, protect him... he will struggle so much more than you have, my brave prince. Never let him believe he is alone.” “I promise, mother,” Ellis whimpered, tears rolling down his cheeks as he watched his mother lift a hand and place it on his cheek. His smaller hand moved up to grasp it, pushing his head into her hold, “I love you, my son..” Gaeli whispered, her smile growing for just a moment, before her hand went limp and her eyes defocused. “Mother? Mother!” Ellis grasped her hand, shaking it vigorously as he tried to wake her, “mother! Please!” Hands wrapped around his shoulders, and he was pulled off of the bed and away from her side. “No! Please! I don’t want to leave her!” He begged, but he was no match for the nun that tugged him gently away. The last thing he saw was the bloodied sheets which covered her form, and the physician pressing his forehead to his mother’s. “Mother, no!” —
“A man is not weighed for his worth because of the battles he has won, but for those who he has saved,” a soft voice whispered above the cracking fire which etched away at the pile of wood blanketed by a wall of stone. “His honor is not earned by the number of lives he has taken, nor the people who fear him... but the things he fights for, and the morals which guide him.” A weathered hand placed itself over a much smaller, soft one and intertwined the two sets of digits. “Your mother believed that your father was once a good man, though darkness has crept into the deepest corners of his soul and turned him away from love. Your mother loves you, and her love will far outweigh the horrible things he instilled in your mind.” A pair of dark, forest green eyes met another, one blanketed with wisdom and age, the other glossy with youth and innocence. “My father is the bravest, most honorable king that you’d ever served, Amariah.. you’d be wise not to speak of him that way,” snapped another, his voice bouncing off of the fire itself and sparking its meaning deep within it’s audience. “Sebastian, I do not speak ill of your father. I only speak of his hatred, and how it affects you so,” the old man turned his head, his focused gaze landing on the intense blues of the child who defied him. He was no older than six, ripe and young, yet so very loyal to his father and the image of the blood king.
“Come forth, child.” The young boy scampered over to the man, climbing into his lap and crossing his arms over his chest, “you must remember these teachings, young princes, so that one day when you rule this land, you can prosper and overcome the darkness that has revealed itself in this castle.” The boy in front of Amariah spoke for the first time, his voice soft and endearing, “what was my mother like?” “Well.. your mother was kind, and gentle. Yet she was fierce, willing to give her life for the things she believed in. Her heart lay with her family, as it still does, in here-“ he said, placing a shaky finger to the boy’s chest. “You are her little warrior, Sivenellis; and you, Sebastian, you are her commander.” “Why does he get to be the warrior?!” He bellowed, tears coming to his blue eyes and feet kicking in distress. “Oh, my boy.. the commander is all that much more powerful. For the captain orders the soldiers into battle.” This seemed to calm the flames of the boy’s anger, his flailing body stiffening in Amariah’s arms. “I am the commander...” he said wistfully, “pick your nose, Ellis!” Sebastian leapt from the man’s lap, tackling his brother to the ground and straddling his hips. “I command it!” The room erupted into squeals and giggles, as the two boys bantered and played; the older pair of eyes watching from his chair, a prideful smile crossing his withered lips. —
“For crimes against the king, you have been sentenced to hang! May god have mercy on your soul!” “No!” A voice called out in agony, but it was too late. The floor beneath the victim dropped and the sickening sound of every tiny bone in his neck snapping resonated through the crowds of people. “Let this be a warning to those who try and defy the Blood King! May he show no mercy!” “Amariah!” The voice called again, a pair of wide green eyes gazed up at the hanging body, his cheeks stained with tears and featured distorted in torment. “Stop with this nonsense, Sivenellis. He was nothing to you, and he will stay that way.” A booming voice demanded the boy’s silence, a calloused hand wrapping around his forearm and pulling him away from the sight of the hanging body. “It’s high time I’ve taught you what it’s truly like to be the Blood King.” —
“Hurry, Sebastian, or we’ll miss the feast!” Two sets of feet pattered along a dirt path, trodding up the hill in the dense woods. “Father will have our heads for this, Ellis.” Grumbled the one that took up the rear, his eyes darting back towards where they came as if some unseen creature was peering at him from the darkness. “I’m sure as soon as you see Uli, you’ll forget all about father and the consequences that we may or may not endure!” The first boy exclaimed, casting a knowing smirk back towards his brother, who merely scowled at him, “and what is that suppose to mean?” “I know you like her, you think about her precious fiery hair and bright sapphire eyes-“ Sivenellis had to duck to avoid being pelted with a sudden rock, “I do not!” “Forgive me, commander! I wish not to disappoint!” He chimed, taking off towards the feint glow of candlelight to avoid any more unidentified flying objects wizzing past his head. The two emerged from the tree line, strapping young boys sprinting towards the castle much smaller than their own yet still magnificent where it stood. “Uli! Cassius!” They called out, excitement ringing in their voices. The doors opened just as they came upon them, and just as they did a beautiful young woman stood in the threshold. The boys skid to a halt, eyes wide and hearts stopped as they gazed up at the fearsome redhead before them. “M-mildly!” Sebastian yelped, his adolescent voice cracking as he bowed at the hip. Ellis did the same, but he had since recovered from her unexpected beauty and was merely mocking his brother’s attempts. “Your highness, oh gorgeous one! We shall be married!” He cried with a high tone, laughing and slapping Sebastian’s back. “You fool, it’s only Sam.” “Yes, it’s only me,” she chimes, and the boys followed her inside. “My boys, how nice it is to finally see you again. Gods, how you’ve grown!” (edited)
Cassius chuckled, sweeping both of the princes into his arms and squeezing with all his might. “I c-can’t breathe-“ Sebastian whined, and the man let them go. That night, they dined with Sam and her father, as they had done many times before, forgetting about the strict fist that came down upon their heads almost nightly. They told stories and tales, their cheeks sore from laughter. Sebastian and Sivenellis felt at home, dreading the moment that the moon would reach the horizon, and they were forced to return to the dark halls of the castle. (edited)

The castle was bustling with excitement, having received a raven a few days prior announcing the arrival of the princess that was long lost in the King’s memory. Yet the staff knew who it was, and there were rumors that this could be the woman who melted the king’s heart. He stood quietly at the top of the grand staircase that lead up to his castle, dressed in a black blouse, black trousers, and a deep crimson cloak. His green eyes watched the gates of the palace open, awaiting his old friend to approach the gates in her carriage. It seemed so long ago since he had seen her, it was nostalgic… and he felt a giddy feeling that he hadn’t since he was a boy.

It was a gloomy day when Princess Sam had scheduled the visit. Dark clouds filled the sky, but it didn't rain. It was nice and cool, the wind blowing just hard enough to make the trees and grass sway lazily. Before long the carriage would arrive through the gates of the kingdom. The horses trotting their way up the stone path until they stopped right beside the grand staircase. A man that had been sitting beside the driver hopped off the carriage to tend to the door, opening it only to reveal Princess Sam waiting to step out. The princess poked her head out and looked around, lifting the plain black dress that she had worn, and soon stepping out. She relaxes her hands, letting the dress fall back down. She looked around a bit more, examining the place further before finally lifting her head to see King Ellis standing at the very top of the staircase. She clears her voice, her eyes still fixated on Ellis. 'Alright.. here we go..' She would think before starting her trek up the staircase. After a moment of walking up the steps she would soon be face to face with the King. She bowed a bit, a smile fixed on her face as she did. "Good day King Ellis." She would say, returning to her regular posture to gaze up at the man's eyes. She clears her voice before speaking again. "I am very pleased that you have accepted to see me. It's.. been a while old friend. You've grown into.." She focuses a bit more on his features now instead of his eyes. "..a handsome young man. Anyways, shall we talk inside?" She motions her hands towards the doors of his home. (edited)

The man stood tall at the top of the steps, forest irises watching as the woman ascended the stairs towards him. He’d admit, she had grown into quite the young lady. She looked entirely different, like a woman. It was odd to see her like this yet somehow exhilarating. He gave a small bow, such as he should for a princess, and offered her his arm. “It’s lovely to see you again, Sam. The last time I saw you, you were still learning to waltz.” He said, a small chuckle leaving his lips as he turned around with her and lead her through the massive front doors which had been carved with massive lions engaging in a war of teeth and claws. Once the entered the castle, a gust of warm air met their skin and Ellis exhaled slightly, “how is your father? I miss the old man.” His strides were long, powerful, and every staff member of the castle bowed their head as they passed - mostly in fear rather than respect.

Sam gently wraps her arm around his, smiling at the comment about learning how to waltz. The smile quickly faded as she gazed upon the doors. She didn't even notice the engravings on them until now. It gave her chills, seeing the lions. Such powerful yet beautiful creatures. Although Sam had never seen one in person, she still respected the fact that they were the number one thing on engravings. The sudden gust of warm air made Sam's body tingle from the sudden temperature change. It felt nice, and made Sam sigh. "Well.. that's why I'm here. My father asked me to come here. It's.. something I would rather talk about in private." Sam would say, looking around at all the staff who bowed. She glances back a bit to see a man's face, giving him a smile. In return he did nothing. Sam didn't think much of it, in fact she would turn her head to look forward again. "I must say you've.. really kept the kingdom in place haven't you?" It was a beautiful place to call home, although it did give Sam an eery feeling. Sam wasn't sure why, maybe it was the carvings on the doors, or the fact that the place wasn't lit up much. Perhaps the real reason was because of everything that had gone down. Ellis killing his father, and then taking Bash to the edge of his life aswell. Sam was updated on the reason behind his father, but she wasn't filled in on his brother. "It's.. different."

The king led the princess through the quiet halls that were decorated with red and gold, banners of crimson color with golden rearing lions hung from the walls and every torch was lit with a burning flame. The soft rug under their feet stretched from the beginning to end of the hall, leading to the throne room. Ellis listened to the woman intently, eventually giving a small nod of his head, “as you wish.” Since she had last seen him he had been a lively little boy that made consistent jokes, yet now it seemed that he was all serious and no humor. His father had really changed him, the throne had really changed him. He led her down to almost the very end of the hall before he turn left down a smaller one, which led to a large wooden door with intricate designs of roses and swirls on it. The guard standing outside of it reached over and open the door for them, I was allowing him to go in first before following after. there was a large wooden desk in the middle of the room with four chairs, one on each side. “Let’s sit.” He said as he pulled one of them out for her.

As they walked Sam couldn't help but stare at all of the banners. The silence not helping the eery feeling that Sam had, in fact it added to it. She would soon come to realize that this wasn't the Ellis that Sam remembered. The engravings, the way his staff acted, even the way that he was acting. Poor guy, forced to live a life that wasn't his, and his father is the one to blame. Eventually Sam and Ellis would finally make it to what seemed like a planning room. However there were only four chairs. This was a bit odd to Sam, but she decided to leave it for now. She slips her arm out from Ellis's and watches as he pulls a chair out for her. "Thank you Ellis." She would say, taking a few steps before lifting her dress and sitting down. "Alright, about my father. He.. has asked me to come to you. I know.. this is..." Sam's voice trailed off and soon she would go silent. She looked up into Ellis's eyes, her eyes turning to the side as she lowered her head. She would huff softly, raising her head to meet his eyes again. "Well Sam.. he.. he has asked me if you would take me into marriage because we aren't doing very good.." Sam clears her voice. "I know.. I know.. we haven't seen each other in God knows how long.. but he is desperate. If you could see him right now you would understand. It's too much stress for his old age and I'm worried Ellis, he is worried. All of our people are starting to complain because of it, and things get bad if our people lose it too.." Sam reaches up and places both arms on the table, scooting up in her chair. "If you could just.. find it in your heart to atleast consider helping me and my father out. By taking my hand into marriage, and combining our kingdoms, it would mean the world to my father and I." Sam removes her arms, lowering her head a bit, her eyes switching from her lap to Ellis. Sam was nervous, and she had a good reason to be. Haven't seen a friend in years and now here she is basically trying to mooch money off of him
because her father is desperate. At the same time Sam was just as desperate, but this was because she was worried about her father.

The king did not take a seat with the princess, instead making his way silently over to the window in the room and leaning his broad shoulder against the stone of the wall. His emerald gaze slowly traveled over the courtyards and watched as soldiers trained, maids ran about, and gardeners attempted to care for the gardens. It was useless, though, winter was creeping in and the greenery was beginning to die. Disappointment crossed over his mind as he watched the leaves wither away, knowing that the garden had been one of Rose's favorite places to escape to when they were sneaking around his father to be with each other. Her giggle seemed to echo still fresh in his mind to this day. Yet it was Sam's voice that brought his thoughts back to the presence, her familiar yet now deeper voice forcing him to turn around and look at the princess with a furrowed brow. "Your father?" He said in disbelief, "poor?" He had known Sam's father his entire life and not once did he believe that the man was capable of running through his riches. Ellis knew that Sam would not lie to him, though, and that every word that slipped out from her lips was true. The prospect of marriage stunned him for a moment, and his body seemed to tense a little. "He wants me to marry you? Why hasn't he just asked for help from the church? Surely my reputation proceeds me and he would want nothing to do with me since I've become the Blood King." Ellis spoke fluently and eloquently, never stumbling over his tongue and always getting the point across clearly and sometimes mercilessly. "Surely he wants a better life for you than being the wife of me." Ellis was aware of how his people looked at him, how they believed he had gone mad and killed his father and brother in a plight of anger... but it didn't matter what they thought, he was their ruler and if he had to lead through fear, he would.

"Yes.. and well the church.. bone dry." Sam stayed silent the rest of the time he talked. Listening to his voice, how he didn't stutter, pause or any of the sorts. He always knew exactly what to say, without a care in the world sometimes. He would soon finish, and Sam would push herself and the chair away from the table, standing to her feet. "Ellis.. he wants YOU to take my hand into marriage. He specifically said your name." Sam would say, going silent. After a bit the silence would finally be broken by Sam. "Ellis.. you may be the Blood King.. but I know deep down you're still the same old kid you used to be." Sam began to walk towards Ellis, her shoes clapping softly against the floor, traveled around the room, echoing softly. "Ellis.. I've known you my whole life, my dad has known you since you were born. He wants you to be my king.. because he knows no matter what you will protect me.. keep me safe..." Sam stands inches from Ellis, lifting her right arm to place it gently on his shoulder.

The king watched as Sam stood from the chair, it’s legs making a rather excruciating noise as it slid across the floor and she approached him with a bit of a bite to her tone. It reminded him of the younger her, sassy, sarcastic. He nearly let a smirk cross his lips at the thought of it… but the matter at hand did not make him smile. “Do you know what happened to my last lover, Sam?” He said bluntly, clenching his jaw at the very thought of her blood-drowned body that lay in his arms as he wailed to the gods. Her father thought he would protect Sam… but he couldn’t even protect rose when it mattered the most. He had always, and would always fail to be the protector that he was born to be. He failed as a king, and he hid that behind the facade his people saw of him- the blood king who murdered his father in cold blood, and his brother as well. His people followed him because they feared him but could he actually bring the blade down if it came to it?

Sam gently rubbed Ellis's shoulder, thinking for a moment. Her facial expression quickly changed, aswell as her attitude. "I.." She sighed, letting her arm fall beside her. Her eyes, averted slowly to the floor, where she tilted her head down. "I do.. but.. very little detail. I know it had something to do with your father." Silence filled the room after that, rain drops beginning to finally hit the kingdom, softly. Sam lifts her head to look up at Ellis once again, her eyes gazing deep into his. "That doesn't mean that you can.. give up. I'm sure she wouldn't want you to sulk about it the rest of your life. She would.. want you to.. find someone new. Now I know I didn't know her.. but I do know this. You've changed Ellis, you're not the person I used to know. You have to give other people chances. She may have been your first lover.. and I'm sorry, terribly sorry that you had to go through that. That doesn't mean give up on love though." Sam turns her back to the king, sighing once again. The rain began to pour harder now, slapping the window to give out a "tap" sound. It was almost as if someone was tapping on the window. A flash filled the room, followed by a low grumbling sound. "I'm not saying you have to give me a chance, but atleast give someone a chance Ellis." Sam turns back to face the man. "It's bad to mourn her for the rest of your life. If you don't accept, I understand." Those were the last words that left Sam's mouth, and she would grow silent unless Ellis spoke to her.

Ellis’ emerald eyes locked onto the princess’, a slow rising feeling of despair rising in his chest and clutching at his heart. He cared for Sam, he had known her since he was a young boy. He wasn’t sure he could keep her safe, let alone guard her reputation. If she married him there would likely be many rumors spread about her, wether or not she was just as evil as he was. If she enjoyed the sight of blood or if she wanted to see him do unspeakable acts to those who crossed them. “My father cut rose down in our sleep. He beat her until she died in front of me, all because I loved her. Death follows me, it plagues my life like a withering blanket. I don’t want that for you as well.” The sudden patter of rain outside caused the King to feel a slight sense of relief from the tense moment. He didn’t particularly like Sam talking about Rose, and what she would want… but she was right. He just wasn’t ready to admit it to himself or anyone else.

Sam shook her head, her voice suddenly raising. "But that is not who you are!" Her voice echoed throughout the room. Sam huffs, staying silent for a moment, clearing her voice before she spoke again. "Death.. it does not follow you. You're the one who makes it follow you Ellis.." Sam looks down, fiddling with her fingers. "It's not your fault though.. your father drilled that into your head. He brainwashed you Ellis.. I know the old you is in there, but with you not giving anyone a chance, how would you ever learn how to change?" Sam looks up, and when she does, tears have filled her eyes, wet streams that trailed down her cheek told Ellis that she had been crying. It started when she looked down. "Y- you can't push the ones that care away from you Ellis. You just can't.. you.. you need someone to show you that you can change back. W- with the help of someone else you can show everyone.. that you have changed. That way.. no one ever fears you all the time. You don't need to be the way you are.. to show that you're the Blood King. You can still be merciless.. but.. you don't have to be it all the time."

For a moment, the man had found himself staring blankly at the princess' form. Her words fell on death ears, as he had no intentions on trying to change the vision his people had of him. In some way, it was easier for him to rule by fear. No one defied him and no one dare try. Yet, a small part of him wanted things to be different, the childish side of him that she wanted so desperately to see within him once again. The moment she lifted her eyes towards him and he noticed the tears falling down her cheeks, it sparked a part of him inside that dared him to step forward and take her cheeks into his calloused hands. He didn't want her to cry, not because of him. He cared for her too much to see her hurt. The child inside of him begged him to embrace her, to calm her, which he did. He wrapped his large arms around her shoulders and pulled her against him. He placed a gentle hand to the back of her head, "you're right, Sam..." He relented, "you're right."

It took a minute before Sam finally gave in to the embrace herself. She reaches her hands around the large man, hugging him. Pulling her head close to his chest to sob. To tears kept coming, they wouldn't stop. It hurt Sam to see Ellis like this, and even though he said that Sam was right. It didn't mean that he would still commit to changing, which is what broke Sam's heart. Tears began to soak the man's shirt, causing a small wet spot to appear on it. Sam just couldn't find the courage to stop. The rain would continue to fall, occasional lighting striking down to meet fields in the distance before a low grumble filled the quiet room. The sobbing would soon slow, becoming silent. Occasional sniffle leaving Sam's nose. The hug was nice, and did give Sam a little bit of hope. The warmth of the hug, calmed Sam and soon, she would speak. "If you would give someone a chance.. you could change. You can't be fixed on the same person who had died years ago Ellis. The feeling of loneliness and sorrow will only make your life incredibly miserable."

The king did not release the girl until she was done crying, his large embrace offering her whatever comfort she was in need of for that day. He felt sort of guilty for contributing to her pain, knowing that it must've been extremely hard to come her and admit to him that her father was struggling. He wanted to tell her to leave Rose out of her words, as she knew nothing about the young maid... but a part of him deep down knew that Sam was right. She was right that if he continued to brood over his lover for the rest of his life that he would die alone and unhappy. Not to mention that one day he would need to bear an heir to take his place on the thrown so his people had someone to lead them. He had always hoped that one day he would be able to raise someone that was better than his father and himself. A man that was capable of sitting on the thrown and being loved for his reign instead of hated. Perhaps considering this marriage could benefit the both of them, and Ellis allowed one of his large hands to lift and gently pet the back of her head as he thought about this. Eventually he would allow himself to speak, his chest rumbling from his deep baritone voice. "Allow me to consider it, Sam. You can stay here until the arrangements are made. Either way I will not allow your people to suffer, or you father. He was right about one thing - I will take care of you."

The man's deep voice would catch Sam off guard, scaring her a bit. It made her quickly look up to the man, gazing deep into his eyes as he spoke. A feeling of relief would rush over Sam, and soon a smile would form on Sam's face. It made Sam happy to hear this, knowing that her and her father, aswell as the people didn't have to suffer. Sam's dad would get the money he needs to tend to his people, and Sam, well Sam was determined to help show Ellis's people that he can change. Sam knew deep down in Ellis that he could change, and that all he needed was help. Sam shifts her head to rest it tightly against hid chest once again, tightening the hug in the process. "Thank you.." His words almost brought her to tears once again, but she held back. Sam wasn't one for crying, and tended to only cry when she was by herself. She decided that it was enough crying for one day. "I am more than thankful for you considering." Sam's voice would become raspy towards the end from mucus that had built up in her throat. Sam would clear her voice a couple of times before speaking again. "John will be.. he will be thrilled when he finds out. If you're curious to know, yes, my father talks about you often."

It was sort of odd to be holding Sam this way, but he refused to let her go until she pulled away. He didn’t like seeing her cry. His free hand gently moved along her back as he attempted to calm her. The mention of her father brought a sense of familiarity to his chest, which seemed to swell in happiness. He remembered the king nights he would spend with the girl and her father, playing games and telling stories. Her father had been a close father figure to himself and Sebastian. He missed the old man. “I’ve missed you both, Sam.” He said softly, and eventually he forced himself to pull away. He placed his large hands on the girl’s shoulders and looked down into her eyes, “I suppose we have a bit of catching up to do, hm?” She said as his lips just barely slipped up into a small smile. He slowly let her go, turning towards the small table in the corner of the room which had a few bottles of liquor and glass cups beside it. He walked up to it and picked up a glass, popping off the lid to one of the fine glasses of whiskey and tilting it over the cup. He filled it halfway and set the liquor back down, turning to glance at the princess over his shoulder, “drink? I won’t tell if you don’t.” He said teasingly.

The rain continued on, tapping the window, the howl of the wind outside filling the room unless broken by voices. It was.. peaceful in the room. Though the occasional thunder shaking the room was a bit loud, and echoed. Sam would've looked up at the man when his big hands were placed on her small, delicate shoulders. Sam listened as he spoke, but chose not to speak. The small smile brought a bit of joy to Sam. It had been the first smile since she had arrived. Sam finally clears her voice and nods. "I suppose it is time to catch up.. and boy do I have something to tell you." This would be a big surprise to Ellis, and Sam knew so. Sam's shoes tapped as she headed over to Ellis, where he stood, pouring glasses of whiskey. "I won't say a word. Remember that time we snuck into the wine cellar at my fathers?" Sam began to chuckle. "We had gotten silly drunk on wine and one of the knights on patrol had caught us. We were mid act of drinking aswell. Ohhh I got in so much trouble! It was fun though.. being goofy.. drinking at probably an age we shouldn't have been." Evi chuckles a bit, before clearing her voice. The room once again filling with silence. Sam broke the silence not too long after. "So.. there is something you must know about me.. my father, and most of the people of our kingdom. Now before you say anything.. this was a surprise to me, as it will be for you. I'm.. actually.. a werewolf..." Sam's eyes move from the glass of whiskey, up to Ellis's eyes. Trying to see if he would react to it or not. "I found out one night when I was out on a walk. Someone decided to try and kill me and well.. when they got the first slash off with their dagger I.. changed. After that it was.. well.. not pretty." Sam breaks eye contact and looks down. "I asked my father about it and he told me, so yeah. Other than that nothing interesting has really happened. Nothing I can think of at the moment atleast. You?" Sam raises her head to look back into his eyes, waiting for an an
swer.
