“Princess, may I come in?” A woman from outside her room door asked. “You may,” Penelope replied. She was currently sitting down at her vanity table, brushing out a red locs of hair whilst looking in the mirror. “My, you look quite stunning.” The maid smiled kindly. She was probably the only friend that Penelope had in the castle. She was an older woman, in her mid 40’s. “You always say that.” Penelope chuckled softly. Today was her birthday so she was getting prepared for the social gathering that her father had prepared a month before its time. “It may be because it is the truth.” The older woman placed a few towels and a dress on Penelope’s bed. It was handpicked by her father himself. “I really do dread social gatherings.” She sighed softly. It was always the same thing. Rich and noble families coming to say their congratulations and whatnot. She learned to just smile and wave. “It’ll be good for you. Just don’t think too much about it, alright? Come along and get dressed, you don’t want your breakfast to get cold, now do you?” The maid left Penelope’s room, making sure to close her bedroom door behind her.
Her bedroom was decorated in a beautiful green cottage-core theme. There were green plants in almost every window and on every desk. Her walls were painted in an avocado-colored green. Her wardrobe itself was in shades of different green colors. She loved the color, mostly because it reminded her of her late mother and the green plants that she adored so. “What a pain.” The woman mumbled under her breath. She glanced at the sky-blue dress that had blue roses painted on the skirt of the dress. Not only was it not the color she liked, but it was also decorated in her least favorite type of flower. How unsurprising that her father chose the worst. After silently complaining, she got up from her chair and changed into the dress.
