It wasn't the answer she expected.
Then again.
It wasn't a bad one.
After all, Rue was quite aware that the Crimson Nation wasn't in as dire of straits as the Cerulean Nation was. They had food and jobs and while there was occasional slipping of power, for the most part, the nation remained strong despite the war. It was clear which nation had been winning the war for the last 50 years, though they never had managed to deal the sealing blow.
Rue looked slightly down at her food and paused, slowly letting her hand glide towards her drink. "I suppose that's a good thing though...That's what all rulers wish for, a peaceful nation where you don't need to protect your people... of course, you're there to do so should you need, but a self sufficient and healthy nation." She said softly, almost as if talking to herself before smiling, "I wish I could say the same."
While Rue knew the state of the Cerulean nation not entirely her fault, there was a part of her that believed her reign had worsened it. After all, she couldn't do much for the war and she certainly had no way of helping to produce the crops that simply would not grow. While she hoped to boost morale, her presence only angered the resentful people who wondered why the dragons had stopped fighting the war by their side. The only thing she could do was to ask for a peace treaty, which she was doing now. And yet even then she was sure there would be those unhappy with her decision, unhappy with the way that she had given up on the war that they had been fighting for so long. After all, in many eyes, she was admitting defeat.
For a moment, Rue looked towards the Prince with a slight frown, her blue eyes lingering as she wondered where she had strayed from the path that her parents had hoped for her. Whether they would have supported her decision or called her a fool. Yet wordlessly, she looked down once more, unsure of what to say to the young man to continue their conversation.
