Surprised I matched with a literal angel. I must have died and gone to heaven for such a match. How are you doin, beautiful?
Sure it was cheesy as fuck but that was only one aspect of his personality and Gideon felt like it was part of his charm, aside from how handsome he was. He didn't expect a message right back because of how early in the morning it was so he locked the screen and placed his phone beside him on his spare pillow. Falling back against the memory foam mattress Gideon sighed and closed his eyes.Oh, she's got beauty AND brains? I think I've found my dream girl ;]
Nothing really just|
He paused mid message and sucked in another breath of air before exhaling loudly. "Oh fuck. What do I say?" Looking around the room Gideon hoped to find inspiration but coming up short. For some reason behind the mask and with the identity of Gravitas he was a smooth and cocky guy who knew what to say and when to say, but as Gideon O'Shea? He had some confidence but he was awkward when around more than a small group of people and not as quick to thinking.
"Games? No... Uh, fuck. Work? I mean technically it is a job." Shrugging he finished his message and hit send wondering if he'd get another... He was hopeful so he would keep his phone on his chest, closing his eyes with a small smirk.
- working late. The night is an oyster and all that. Gotta make cash so I can take pretty girls like you on dates... Saw you like Italian, what a coincidence that I am a quarter. Does that mean you'd like me?
The cheese was thick but he felt it was just enough to keep her around but hopefully not enough to make her flee in cringe.Since such a cutie is telling me that I will concede... however. Only if said cutie promises to meet up for coffee soon?
It was a bold move he knew, they'd barely held a conversation but he found himself wanting to meet her in person and what better form than over a cup of coffee. Not really committal or serious but it was technically an offer of a date. The first step, he hoped, to getting to know more about this woman and if fate had it's way hopefully more than just getting to know her.
Before he closed out the app he sent one more message, feeling rather lucky despite his failure earlier in the evening at apprehending the mysterious super who had robbed the bank.
You ever go to Espresso My Heart? It's a café on the corner of 6th and main? I'll be there at 11. Every day but Tuesdays
He hoped he saw her, and sure that wasn't his normal place to grab a coffee but he'd read an article about how it was the first noncommittal date stop in the city and the reviews were all four or five stars on the google site. He's wait a full minute to see if she would reply before he locked his phone and finally let sleep claim him. Hopeful for the new day.I'll take a quarter, I don't mind earning the rest you'll see...
Biting his lip as he typed away he glanced up every once in awhile at his friend, all six copies of himself working in expert unison.
What's a normal day like for beautiful people like?
He wanted more conversation with her, and he hoped that she might too.Bummer. I just got up and started my day.. So, also not fun things. Mind if I ask you what you're studying?
Gideon's leg bounced on the bar of the stool as he leaned back, clearly wanting to hold an actual conversation with her.
But if you need to study then I don't want to be a distraction... I know my face has that effect from time to time. ;]
He chuckled to himself and Toshi looked his way, handing the dish he had just finished preparing to one of his copies. "What's so funny over there?" Gideon looked up and shrugged. "Just proving that I'm more full of myself than I should probably..." He locked his phone but kept it in his hand. "Well, that is as obvious as saying the sun is hot. Now, what do you feel like having to eat? Want to try my new menu item?" Toshi asked, leaning against the metal counter and crossing his arms. He looked like a real chef with his arms crossed, the white coat looked good on his complexion and Gideon tried to imagine what the half-Japanese guy looked like with his natural hair color. In the few years he'd known him it'd gone from orange to purple to red. He could never settle on one color, let alone a normal hue but even that suited his friend and Gideon had grown used to the sudden change in hair color.
"Sure I guess, you know I have faith in your cooking." Gideon slid from the barstool. "But let me help? I hate you giving me free food, I know it comes out of your check, don't even lie about it. So give me a task." He removed his coat, laying it perfectly on the flat surface of the stool so it wouldn't fall off. The leather jacket was something that meant a lot to him and it was not cheap either.
.Don’t worry.. I am distracting myself way more then you are. It just is not working out for me today. I study accountancy. So a lot of numbers..
She knew that he was about to put his phone down and likely stop messaging her, but she somehow didn’t want that. She wanted his attention for her own, she wanted him to keep talking to her.
Might go and grab some food.. what are you up to today?
@EnchantedNymphNumbers, ouch. I'm more beauty than brains... you're beauty AND brains. I've got my work cut out for me.
He smirked and typed away, glancing up to make sure Toshi was still busy.
I'm actually helping a friend in his cafeteria kitchen, he's making me food and I offered to help.
He hit the back button from his phone to go back to the home screen, pulling up the camera and taking a pretty decent picture of his uniform diced potato. Proud that he had barely made any mistakes. He pulled back up the conversation and sent her the picture.
Maybe if I'm lucky I'll get to cook you a meal sometime too to show you my skills ;]
@NakachuThey let you get around a knife with that small brain of yours? Your friend might not be the smartest either.
She would reply to him in tease as she put her boiling water into her noodle cup and added the flavor package, giving it a bit of smile. As the last bit she would crack an egg over the noodles the cup and started to swirl right away. The egg would boil in the hot water and be broken up by her whisking, creating white strings of egg in the noodles to give it a little bit more body.
Once that was done she made a picture of it and send it over to him as well.
My lunch is a lot more simple I am afraid. Hopefully it will get my brain working.
@EnchantedNymphOuch. My heart has been wounded.
He laughed louder then and drew Toshi's attention which promptly had him glaring at Gideon. "You better wash your hands and finish that potato before I skin you!" He narrowed his eyes and Gideon looked at him with an incredulous look. "Oi, I'm over here trying to defend you. Maybe she's right!" He snickered and quickly typed one more message when she had sent the picture.
Hey nothing wrong with a good old cup of noodles. I lived off those for a long time. An added egg? Nice touch. I'm being yelled at to wash my hands but, I hope it does give you the energy you need for that brain of yours. If it works let me know and I'll tell my friend that I want instant noodles instead. I could use some brain too it seems. :P
He smiled at his phone before locking it and placing it back into his back pocket. He moved to the sink to rewash his hands under Toshi's watchful gaze. "Did I...actually see the Gideon smiling?" Toshi's mocking voice carried over while he moved over to the stove, tossing the meat into a heated and oiled pan with an assortment of herbs Gideon wasn't exactly sure what they were.
Gideon dried his hands off and worked on finishing the last potato, eventually bringing all of them to Toshi to add into the pan. "You know, I did tell you she was cute, right?" Toshi took the bowl from Gideon and gave him a look. "Yes you did, show me?" Gideon pulled out his phone and pulled up the app, opening her profile and turning it so Toshi could see while he let the meat and potatoes brown in the pan a little.
"Oh daaaaamn. Tell her she's too good for you." Toshi's quip was met by a nudge of Gideon's elbow into his side before he moved back over to the stools, taking the one beside his jacket. "Fine, I bet she would agree with you." He chuckled and opened up their messages again.
Toshi, my friend might indeed be smart. He told me you were too good for me... My heart is wounded yet again.
He might be right, he might be wrong. We will find out Wednesday.
She texted him back teasingly before she got a different ping on her phone. This time it was a news ping that she had set up and she would quickly turn down off her music and turn on the news. They were covering the story about the bank robbery last night. She sat down on her couch and leaned forward, paying close attention.
Last night the city hall bank was robbed by a new super villain. The female villain who has yet to be named seems to be honing the power of electricity. A big amount of money was stolen as well as one police officer wounded. Our own Gravitas showed up to the scene and chased after her, but it seems that one of our favorite supers was not able to comprehend her.
Anyone who has any information, please come forward and call the following number. We have also opened a post on our website to choose a name for this new villain.
She shouldn’t be surprised that it was covered on the news, it always did. Yet seeing the images of herself was almost making her sick.
Did you see the news? A new villain robbed the bank.
I thought it was still undecided if you were actually going to be there Wednesday? Change your mind to a definitive yes already?
Gideon set his phone down and picked back up his fork. "Mmm, Toshi dish ish gud." His mouth was full as he spoke, his stomach and palate very pleased with the food in his mouth. "Yeah, well maybe don't talk with your mouth food and I'll believe you, dork." Toshi shook his head and sighed, his own food being eaten quietly as he watched his friend move between glancing at his phone and grabbing bites from his bowl.
I haven't yet but some coworkers were talking about it... a super villain with electric powers was it?
He inhaled a breath, running his hand through his hair. It wasn't uncommon for people to talk about the heroes and villains, it was almost an every day occurrence a villain and a super fighting in the city. There was no rest for the wicked, and even less for the heroes that had to fight them. Finished with the last bite of his meal he added onto the conversation.
Bummer that Gravitas hadn't caught her but from what I heard only one person was wounded. Could have been worse, but could have been better. I always wonder what goes through the minds of a villain, you know? Why they do what they do when there are other options out there. Why resort to crime?
.Yeah, that one.
She answered him. It felt weird to talk about what had happened the day before in third person, but at the same time, how else would she say it. Hi, I am that villain by the way! Yeah.. not something that you could do. As much as the Heroes needed to hide their faces, so did she. Luckily this was not going to be an everyday thing. It was going to be just a ‘sometimes’ thing. And she was glad for that.
But when that second message came, she couldn’t help but feel that hurt inside of her. Why resort to crime? What else was she going to do? There wasn’t a hotline you could call for your mutation problems.. there wasn’t a doctor either who would just go and tell you how to el with those things. No.. this had been the only way that she had found that could work for her with hurting the least amount of people. Even the police officer. She had not meant to hit him, but something had pulled the electricity to him. Perhaps a rod that came from having broken his arm once.. something like that.
Yeah, lucky only one hurt. And I don’t know.. maybe she had no choice? She robbed a bank right? Maybe she really needed to money. Not all of us would resort to something like that right away, but I think there are a lot of people who would steal if times got tough. Not that I am saying what she did was right. But would someone really just turn bad like that?
She had needed to say it, somewhere she had needed to defend herself. Especially to this guy who she was now saying she would date in the next few days. She could only hope that a small tiny piece of him would see it that way.
She finished her noodles and just slumped down into the couch. Suddenly she could feel tears welling in her eyes. “Shit..” she said as she started to wipe at them, but there was no stopping them anymore. “I am such a mess..” She felt like such an idiot, so lonely too. She just.. she needed someone to understand what she was going through.
@EnchantedNymphMaybe. Some villains think what they're doing is good, others...they do it for other reasons. Can't tell me a villain who has a death toll of 10+ has any other reason than to make the world descent into chaos... But with her? Idk, maybe. Only one guy was wounded and from what I heard at work, Gravitas wasn't really wounded either so I mean. You might be on to something, still doesn't make it right though.
.Sorry it took so long to get you a reply, I was workin. Workin hard at that. So...uh, mind if I ask your name. Can't call you by your screenname can I? My name's Gideon, I know shocking that it isn't fallenstarx7 huh?
@NakachuI just don’t get the same vibe from her. But I might be wrong. It still doesn’t mean she should rob a bank.
Now that she thought of it. They were running a nickname for her on that news site forum. She browsed to it real quick and couldn’t help but chuckle at the suggestions that had been send in. In the end they narrowed it down to three. Electrify, Shock factor and Stray Wire.
“Stray Wire.. I like that.” So she cast her vote.
Then his explanation came and she couldn’t help but feel relieved.
Not going to lie.. I thought I had upset you. Nice to meet you Gideon. My name is Abigail.
@EnchantedNymphNah, takes a lot to upset me. A pretty thing like you having an actual intellectual though about the topic of villains... you're good. Just slaving away for the man and doing my part in building the new community center downtown. It's honest work, but it keeps me toned ;]
He hoped the return of the playful banter at the end was enough, even if it was a little self-absorbed or cocky. It was who Gideon was at times. Biting his lip he quickly added.
Plus, one needs money if he expects to take a girl on a date, no. I'm... not used to this if I'm honest. It's been awhile that I managed to get this far with a girl. Most find out about my job or can't take my humor so...
"There, a little vulnerability. Girls like that right?" He asked himself outloud. He sat his phone down and chugged down the remainder of his bottle of water.
How's studying going? Make any progress with that brain of yours, pretty girl? I've got to head back in to work, but in two hours it'll be lunch time, and I can chat with you more then. Sorry I worried ya.
A quick wipe of his brow with his towel and he slid from the seat of his truck, placing his hardhat back on before locking back up his truck. He looked up at the building that was halfway to completion. The partially done portion containing many angles as well as a domed top. While it looked nice on the outside, the inside was where most of the work was currently taking place and Gideon headed inside then, curious as to what her thought were at the current moment, and if he truly had managed to soothe her worry.Because of your job? That is short sighted.. Lucky for you, I quite like a guy in uniform.
She would tease him. When he asked about he studying she just sighed as she looked over her notes. She had made some progress right? At least she wouldn’t have any more exams for a little while. So as long as she finished her assignments she would be good for a while. She took another sip of her drink that she had gotten herself and then got back to texting.
Not really, I am about to give up if I am honest. To many numbers. Might just go out for some fresh air.
And that is when she got an idea. The community center.. should she? She bit down on her lip as she looked up the location of it. That wasn’t too terribly far away. She could make it on her scooter. Was that invading his privacy? Maybe.. She probably couldn’t even get that close right. It was a construction sight after all. So why did she want to try?
In the end she decided ‘fuck it’ and grabbed her hat and scarf and put on her jacket. She got her scooter from the garage and started to make her way there. it did not take a long time for her to actually get to the sight. She parked her scooter and then went and walked towards the barrier that was placed around it. There were small parts where she could peek through. She saw plenty of people moving about. Would he be there?
<@6146758435447767Lunch time. Have you eaten yet?
@NakachuI have not. I also habe a confession to make..
Not knowing that he was already getting closer to them as she spoke. That he was going to walk right by her if he kept walking. Neither noticing as they were engaged with their phone.
@EnchantedNymphA confession? You're not gonna come out and admit that you're Stray Wire, are you? I can't handle that kind of bomb or responsibility haha jk.
Snickering he typed even quicker.
Or, is it something more interesting like you're already eager to meet me and that maybe has turned into a solid yes?
Someone bumped into his arm and he looked over, his tanned cheeks flushing slightly as he moved even further to the side, "Ah sorry. Didn't see you!" He apologized to one of his coworkers quickly only to bump into someone behind him and Gideon turned, not expecting the person he saw before him.
@NakachuWhere are you?
"Hold on a sec."
Covering his phone with his hand he moved to the side of the truck, looking at Abigail a moment as he offered her a reassuring smile. "I've gotta take this real quick... Don't disappear, dream girl." He winked at her before sliding out of his jacket. He wasn't sure if she was cold, seeing as she was wearing a sweater but if anything maybe it would give her some reassurance since he had rudely interrupted their date by accepting the phone call. In all honesty he had completely forgotten he had made plans to meet with Toshi.
OI! GIDDY
Toshi's voice could be heard yelling through the tiny speaker, perhaps even loud enough for Abigail to hear.
Clearing his throat Gideon walked a bit away from the truck, just enough that he knew Abigail wouldn't be able to eavesdrop on their conversation. (edited)Bro, you were the one who said we should go look for-
"Stray Wire, yeah... about that." He nervously chuckled and ran a hand through his hair.
About that my ass Gideon, I've been waiting for over twenty minutes!
"Yeah well... plans kinda shifted." He glanced back towards his truck where Abigail was.
You're on a date.
It wasn't a question, more of a statement.
"Yeah."
With that hot chick who's way outta your league.
"Fuck you. I'll have you know it's going gr- er good."
Riiiight, and I'm the emperor of Japan.
"I'm serious!"
Fine, loverboy. I'll do a sweep on my own, I'll meet you at your place if you so ever choose to realize your friend exists again.
Gideon had opened his mouth to say something yet the call ended before he even had a chance. With a sigh he shoved his phone into his back pocket and made his way back over to the truck. "Sorry about that. I forgot I had plans with Toshi... I hadn't realized how late it was...."
@NakachuWhat are you doing this Saturday?
@EnchantedNymphI'm whatever you want me to be, Abi. If it's for you? I'd clear my whole week.
@NakachuThe weather forecast is very nice. Maybe we can go take a stroll on the beach? Maybe visit the arcade. There is a cute bistro on the boulevard as well.
She texted him back. It was nothing as grand or out there as what he had done with her, but it was something right? She would have taken him other places if she could but her money was still tight and she did not want to rely on him paying all the time. This time she wanted to treat him too even if that meant something as lame as going to the arcade.
As she waited for her answer she just relaxed in bed. It had been over a week since she had robbed the bank. It seems that all the leads from the police had run empty so she felt pretty comfortable then. Everyone was wondering where the Stray Wire had gone and Abigail could only thank her lucky stars that she would only need to do this every once in a while. Even after a full week she was still feeling pretty good. She was not as charged as she had once been, but her battery was not anywhere near empty either. If she was lucky it would be another two weeks before she would need to do another and she had plenty of time to plan that out if she needed to.
@EnchantedNymphIt's been awhile since I've been to the beach, that sounds amazing. I'm up for that or whatever else you want to do. :]
"Oi, Gideon! Get your ass back here!" The foreman called and Gideon sighed. Not even a moment away and it was already cut short. With the construction deadline coming up by the end of the month there was still a lot of work that needed to be done and so the days had become long and tedious, even for someone who had powers. "Comin, boss!"
Gotta get back to it... Can't wait to see you, beautiful.
Shoving his phone back into his back pocket Gideon headed back to where his coworkers were currently plastering a wall. "Since someone tried to get a little break while we were slavin' our asses away I think we can all go get a coffee, and he can finish up here." The foreman stated, his large beer gut shaking as he chuckled. The others chuckled, some already dropping their tools. Gideon gritted his teeth, the foreman had been an asshole as of late. Always coming in smelling so strongly of alcohol that Gideon was sure he drank the whole liquor store. "Good good, let's go, boys." He stated, running his hand over his graying beard. He sneered at Gideon. "I hope to see progress when we come back in thirty."
Gideon took a deep breath, his eyes closing as he tried to calm himself down. "Yes boss." Joke was on the asshole, he could do twice the work as all of them in half the time, and with no one else here he could even cheat a little. He watched as everyone left, some giving him sympathetic glances while others were snickering along with the foreman. Sometimes Gideon really hated his job.
@NakachuThen I will see you at the start of the boulevard at 3 on Saturday.
She decided to set a time and place. She was still not entirely confortable with the idea of him seeing where she lived exactly. Besides, she had her scooter for a reason and she liked driving it around.
The rest of that day went by in a blur. In the evening they video chatted a small bit more, putting the final details of the date in place before she decided to call it a night. The friday was much of the same. She worked from early to late and then crashed before Gideon had time to call her so they wen without each others company for the first time in days. It felt strange to her.
That Saturday she woke up late as she was starting to notice her power slowly fading once more. She grumbled to herself at 10 am and finally managed to force herself out. She ate a simple breakfast and then got herself showered and ready. She did her make-up, styled her hair in gentle curls and even put on a more bold lipstick this time in a red color that really made them pop. She put on an outfit much like the last. With black ripped jeans and a white and brown striped sweater she tucked in. The same white sneakers underneath it. Around her neck was a cute small necklace with a butterfly on it.
She made her way to the pier way on time. Deciding to take a scenic route on her scooter. She parked it a bit away and secured it with a chain before she walked to the pier. She looked at her phone. 2:42.. Damn Abby.. eager to see him huh? she scolded herself as she waited on his arrival.
@EnchantedNymphYes oh big and scary boss?
"Continue searching I found A- a civilian that needs help. I'm taking her to the hospital. Report to me later." He glanced down at Abigail in her weakened form and his heart clenched again.
Aye aye Captain! Hope the civ is okay.
He heard the comm click off and he tightened his grip around Abigail. "Miss, can you hold on to me? I'm going to fly us to the hospital but I want to make sure you don't fall." He'd wait until she either verbally acknowledged it or felt her arms move even just a bit before taking off. This time doing it more gently than if he didn't have the most precious bundle in his arms. Once he could see the lights of the inner city he held her a little tighter. "Rest your head on my chest, alright? We'll be there shortly."
With that he took off in the direction of the nearest hospital.
@NakachuShe's no where...we've- I'VE looked everywhere she's long gone
Gravitas punched the wall, his teeth clenching.
"Fine head back to the Hub. I'll meet you there."
One last look at the door where Abigail was and he headed back up to the roof exit. He would have to check in on her tomorrow...as Gideon.
@Nakachu
Morning, how are you today?
Want to grab lunch later?
He couldn't outright ask her how she was feeling, if he he did that then it would be suspicious so for now...this would have to do. Locking his phone he sat it on the counter before stripping and climbing into the shower with hopes that the scalding hot water would help wash away some of his stress though he knew it very unlikely.
@NakachuTired, I didn’t sleep well. You? I could grab lunch. Same place?
@EnchantedNymphI guess I slept alright. Yeah, the diner. I've got work until then so.
Of course she hadn't slept well... with whatever she had taken and the way he had seen her last night... Would she open up to him? Let him know what had happened? Gideon balled his free hand into a fist as he gripped his towel around his waist., his knuckles cracking until he moved into his room, throwing his phone down onto his bed. Moving to his armoire he pulled out the clothes he'd need for the day, setting them out on the bed before he let his towel drop to the floor.
He bent over to pick up the phone again, sending her one more message.
Trouble sleeping? Did something happen last night?
Gideon had meant to wait, to ask her when they were in person so he could see her reaction but it was just eating at him and he needed to know. Throwing his phone back down Gideon moved to get dressed, slipping into his underwear before his pants and then his shirt. He took the socks he'd picked and his phone into the entry way before sitting on the small bench there, sitting down before slipping both his socks and boots on. He opted to put his still damp hair into a tight bun on the top of his head before going into the kitchen to make a smoothie.
Ten minutes later and he was headed out the door and to the work site, his mind still on all of the events last night. Both Abigail and Stray Wire weighing heavily on his mind.
@NakachuNothing really. Just a lot on my mind. I will see you at the Diner at 3?
She texted him back, wanting to check if the timing was alright for him. She finally poured herself some coffee, adding her usual cream and sugar and turned on the news. The news was thick with reports about Stray Wire and Gravitas. It was clear that the villain had escaped his grasps again even with Xerox helping him. There was a picture of when Gravitas had held her and flown through the sky, but lucky for Abi it was not a clear one at all. Yet the news seemed to believe that whoever the girl was had been hurt by Stray Wire, the villains second civilian casualty. Abby couldn’t keep the soft chuckle to herself, but at the same time she was worried about it. Let’s hope that hospital doesn’t sell me out..
It was another of those moments where the secrets just tired her out. She wished she had never started this whole journey.. she had thought it would be easy, playing a villain every once in a while. But it brought so much stress with it.. She sipped her coffee again before getting behind the computer.
Over the next few hours she would work on her homework first and then start to plan out her next target. She needed somewhere thatThree works for me.
It'd be a late lunch, but he didn't mind. It was something that he'd have to talk to his foreman about but he had a feeling he could convince him to let him do it. One way or another. He was in no mood to deal with anyone's shit and if it came down to it he'd bust some heads, figuratively or not. He glanced down at his phone one more time, staring at the conversation between him and Abigail. Why wouldn't she tell him? Was she ashamed? If he agreed to the lunch that meant that she wasn't in the hospital anymore. He sighed and climbed into his truck, slamming the door shut before buckling.
His phone rang as he was backing out and he answered it with the truck controls.
"Yo."
"Did you see the news?"
"What news?" Gideon glanced at his mirror making sure he had the all clear before he pulled out of his parking spot.
"You're all over the news again...as is your girl. And I don't mean Stray Wire."
"What?"
"Someone got some footage on their phone or something. It's blurry as fuck, but it's on the news."
Gideon's hands tightened on the steering wheel. That was the problem with the world today, no one could do anything without it being recorded, and apparently last night was no exception. But what irritated Gideon more than anything was that Abigail's face, blurred or not was all over the news.
