Ezkrin'in BOT 27-Dec-22 09:03 PM
Tw: Violence, death,
21:07
Long after the war and the human and Na'vi made peace between themselves. The humans left the planet, only allowing researchers onto the surface and an orbiting station in the sky above. Ezkrin'in had never seen the humans before so close. He was born just after the war. He saw the sattelite and was told of the sky people but he knew the form he found lost in the forest was a sky person. They were so small... Bow drawn in the branches above, he watched them pick their way through the undergrowth... no one of their kind should be out this way, especially so near to a den of Thanators. The carnivores were a danger even to his people. He slid around the trunk of the tree to another beam, crawling on his hands and feet along the branch, following along the human. Why are they out here? @AionsTempest

Laura was one of the few allowed to stay on Pandora, but with strict rules. She was only allowed to leave the designated area with permission from her higher ups, or if there was a Na’vi around to serve as a guide. She had permission this time to study the environment, though it was clear she had no idea where she was headed. Though she was armed, it was clear her mind was more focused on doing her research. She walked carefully, glancing around with a smile at all the unfamiliar flora and fauna. Eventually she sat down in a clearing and started to write what she had observed so far. It was unusual to see a human so comfortable on Pandora. Let alone one that wasn’t guarded about the environment. She looked at home as if she could feel the spirit and energy of Eywa, the deity of the Na’vi.

He lowered his bow, watching her silently then settled onto the branch to sit with her, even if she didn't know he was there. He only moved when he saw the Thanator in the undergrowth, circling. Drawing his knife from his belt he jumped down. The beast blasted through the thick undergrowth towards her and Ezkrin'in hit it from the side, arms around its jaws, pushing his weight into it to keep it down. Both fought in the clearing, the Na'vi snarling as its claws sliced into his stomach before he got his knife into the animal. Holding his side, he sunk to sit tsking in pain, shooting a glare at the human by him. Shouldn't be here... he slowly pushed up and pointed in the direction of the lab, growling. @AionsTempest

Laura couldn’t even hear the Thanator until it attacked. She gave a startled scream, as it leapt at her until a Na’vi intervened and killed it. She backed away slightly, glancing at the Na’vi across from her. “I’m sorry, we weren’t warned to not come here, by anyone.” She glanced at the direction the Na’vi pointed and disdain showed on her face. “I hate it there. I’m always trying to get permission to be outside the fences.” The researcher grabbed her notebook, but in her haste a loose paper had fallen from it. “I’m sorry you had to kill it. I know your kind try to live in harmony with the environment…”

A hand around his own chest to staunch his bleeding, he grabbed the page from the ground and put it back in her hands. A grip on the back of her shirt, he walked her back for the lab like one would a petulant child. He couldn't understand her.... he pushed her towards the fence holding tight to his wounded side. "Go. Now." He pushed her toward it lightly, more stressed and annoyed than angry. People inside the lab panicked at the sight of him so he made sure to let go of her, tail flicking. He turned to walk back into the trees, braid swinging across his back. @AionsTempest

Laura took the paper back with a nod of thanks, but as he passed it to her. It was clear the language and signs of the Na’vi were written. An older male walked up as they approached the fences and gave him a curt nod before turning and chastising Laura. She rolled her eyes at him and snapped back shaking her head. The researcher then looked at him with a slight smile. “Irayo.” (Thank you) @Vox

"Keep her out of that place. There's Thanator dens everywhere this season. Happens again she won't be coming back." He tsked roughly. He wouldn't necessarily kill her, but his village may... "If she's so determined to walk out, I will visit once a week." he said in his tongue, straightening and distangling some of his bangs from in front of his eyes. He was young, about 25 at most, and stood at 9'7". A scar crossing the side of his face marked him as the chief's son, a wound from an old fight. @AionsTempest

Laura having studied the Na’vi language a bit gave him a nod of understanding. She picked up on certain words, while the rest sounded alien, but she could piece together what he was saying. She gestured to him with her hand from her forehead down to her other. A very common Na’vi greeting, she recognized him, but as something more than just the chiefs son.

He didn't do it back, but seemed amused by it, ears flicking back slightly. He waited for her to be inside before he focused on the slices on his side, packing the cuts and tieing it down. Turning he walked back to the trees and disappeared. The next day, he came back like he'd promised, sitting outside the fence. One of the lab techs called for her. "Laura. Your new boyfriends here." She giggled pointing out the window where Ezkrin'in was half rolling in the grass, lolling lazily like he was entertaining himself.

She heard her name called and she got up from where she was working and went over to the person who called her. “Shut it.” She mumbled under her breath. Laura went over to him past the fences amused by the cat like behavior. She glanced back at the older male who had initially been around when she had been returned. He tapped on his watch face, staring at her pointedly. She gave a huff before looking back at the Na’vi in front of her. Laura didn’t carry anything with her today, except for a handgun holstered at her side if anything went awry. @Vox

He jerked his head lightly to the trees, making a hand symbol for her book, saying the Na'vi word. Only once she had her things did he go to the trees climbing up to the higher boughs and looking back to her. He swung up to the branches then hung down by his legs, holding out his hands to her to help her into the trees. "Go to pretty place. Good place to art." he tried to use super simple words, tail tip flicking and ears pressed back. His large yellow eyes met hers unafraid, offering to completely pick her up and carry her. @AionsTempest

Laura chuckled as he easily scampered up the tree and into the canopy. She adjusted her bag across her shoulder, looking up the tree figuring a way to climb it. “Go slow, and I can follow in the trees,” she assured him. As she gently set her hand on the trunk to climb, she realized it felt like it had a beating heart. “The forest is alive…” she said softly. Laura closed her eyes listening to the tree with the hint of a smile for a moment. Eventually she looked back up at him, “You’re home is special.”

He made a face softly, touching the same spot, blinking. Not fully understanding what she was meaning, turning to lightly trot across the branches. He seemingly wasn't a talker, lightly playing on the bounciness of the branches. "Not smart go alone. Humans are small." He laughed softly, putting a palm on the top of her hair, noting how small she was. The branches had a large gap between them so Ezkrin'in scooped her up to jump between. They were heading slightly north, towards a Cliffside that looked down on the village. They stopped in the canopy of a tree, sitting with her, looking down on his village. In the afternoon it was bathed with light and Ekran flew and soared through the sky. "Pretty place..." @AionsTempest

“Average, for humans,” she said pointing to herself. Laura shook her head to move his hand. She wasn’t expecting him to suddenly pick her up and she screamed as he easily cleared the gap. Her startled scream soon turned to laughter as they went towards the cliff side village. The wind blew in her face and it felt invigorating and fresh. So much different than the breezes within the container area she had to stay. She placed her hand gently against him to balance herself on the branch looking at the village. “Mountain Banshees!” She explained seeing the creatures. Laura thought about it for a moment. “No, ikran.” She nodded in agreement. “Pretty home, special.”

"My human speech isn't good. Not supposed to learn." He pulled a canteen from his belt. They only ate or drank around friends or family, meaning he was quite comfortable. "Mothers brother teach me what he remembers." He smiled softly, ears pressed back. He was afraid she'd find him annoying or hard to talk to. He was playing with the end of his braid in his lap, bare legs stretched out in front of him. "I understand better than I talk." He looked up sunning his face in the light, ears pressed back in his hair. "Why you not go back to your lands? You have a chance to go? Or not wish to go?" He looked over, comforted by the soft wind rustling their canopy seat. "I'd miss my world." @AionsTempest

“The fences? I don’t like them. I feel trapped even if it is my home,” Laura explained. “Maybe if it was better I’d want to leave, but I don’t like it there.” “You’re home is beautiful, if I lived here, I’d never want to leave. It’s understandable you’d miss it. The landscape, the creatures, everything…” @Vox

"No. Your world." He pointed to the sky referring to the planet, not knowing the word. "I can understand the fences. It is a boring place. Ugly." He huffed holding his feet sitting cross legged. "Once a week, I will bring you places. Leave the fences safely." He stated tail flicking. An Ikran passed over them, the female on the back whooping at him to which he responded raising a hand in greeting. "They called me a word. At your fences place." He struggled to remember then pieced together the words 'male friend.' Laura, your boyfriends here.... popped into her head. "What does that mean?" @AionsTempest

“Oh, the planet itself isn’t too pretty. It’s so different than here,” she replied dismissively. She chuckled in agreement. “Yeah, nothing pretty about the fences…” Laura leaned back on her hands watching as another Na’vi flew by them. “Your culture is fascinating. So different than mine.” She gave him a sideways glance when he asked about her coworker said. Laura simply shook her head with a scoff. “Don’t worry about it, it’s impossible.”
