Charlotte didn't say anything in response to his commentary about her being 'cute.' It wasn't something that intrigued her, in fact, it did the opposite. She just looked at him and tried not to smile back.
In the back of her mind the old arguments reenacted with Charlotte's mother. There were rules. 'Don't waste your time on men, she would always say. Don't fall in love young. You have to be here for us. Don't forget about us.' It had always displeased Charlotte to think that she might end up alone but this way of life had been engraved into her head from a young age. Maybe it had something to do with her mother losing the love of her life, to say not to give your heart away because it will just break one day anyway. Not that she was going to fall in love with anyone, but Charlotte always had a tough guard up when it came to flirting or romance. It wasn't something she had ever experienced and now certainly wasn't the time, being in this type of dormitory. She was going to choose to ignore it. For now.
"Just to warn you," she began and sat down on the bed closest to the window, "I don't tease. In fact it's actually quite unfunny." This was just her personality. Some days it felt as though she didn't have much of her own. What did Charlotte have to look forward to? She was a civilian, he was correct about that. She wanted more than anything right now to just go back to being an average, everyday civilian.
Charlotte digs through one of her duffel bags that had been dropped off for her, containing a majority of the daily essentials that she would need- some things forgotten she may need to make a stop for at one of the shops later in the evening. She was looking for something more suitable to wear for the physical examinations, as the individuals would be asked to bend, twist, stretch their arms and legs, and so on. Her hoodie lifts up a tiny bit as she bent down to rumble through her belongings, exposing her soft pale back and the small divots of dimples nea
