Grey Northstorm BOT 02-Jan-23 08:37 PM
Grey Northstorm had been on the run for the last two weeks, he was dirty, hungry, hurting, and just down right exhausted. As he found himself on the number 37 bus in the city of New York, he would finally feel like he is lost amongst the crowds better here than he would have been in Poca, West Virginia, where he was born and raised. He looked up at the signs that flashed amongst the many billboards amongst the crowded streets. Here, he would just be looked at like one of the many homeless people that have become a problem in the city since ‘superpowers’ began to become a thing in the world. He remembered sitting in the comfort of his little 60 foot trailer that he had purchased after being kicked out of the drug rehabilitation center in the town of Oceana. He worked hard to get back on his feet, but he fell back into the pill game. He had been in it so long, he didn’t remember why he even started taking them, but he would be on a pain pill binge when he heard about the first super powered mutant exploding in the middle of a park in midwestern Iowa. Reports indicated that the man would glow almost a flaming orange before just exploding. It wasn’t very long after that, bank robberies would occur around the country by super powered individuals who would use their ability for evil and their own gain. He would remember what would happen to make him realize that he had abilities… It was a suicide attempt. He had enough of life, he was addicted to pills, unable to find a job that didn’t involve him going miles underground to mine coal or flip burgers at a fast food chain. He didn’t like life and he had no one to tell him otherwise. He would drive all the way to The New River Gorge Bridge. Leaving his rental car that he essentially stole to make the trip under a fake name at the edge of the bridge as he would walk to the middle, the highest point, and step up and immediately walk off.

As the wind soared through his hair, he could feel the calm relief of it being over pulsing through his veins, and once the darkness hit as he smacked the ground and water underneath, the normal person would think, that’s it. But, he would wake up three days later, according to a newspaper he would find the next day, on the shore of a lake that seemed to feed off of the New River Gorge. Initially confused, he would immediately figure out what happened and begin to question life. Was he immortal? Did something happen that he just didn’t die? He remembered everything up to that point of impact, but he couldn’t think of any reason for why he was here. He would sit on the shore for a few hours before making the long hike to find a road. He would continue to move through the brush of the backwoods, looking for someone, anyone to help out until he happened upon a house in the hollers of West Virginia. In this house, when he knocked on the door, he was greeted by something unpleasant. A shotgun pointed directly at his face. The older man and woman in the home did not take kindly to new visitors, but it was definitely not a welcome sight at midnight in these woods. The moment was quick and quiet, he remembered his head would swell with pain as his eyes would melt the barrel of the shotgun with a red beam before he would grab the wall and rip the frame of the door off its hinges… “I JUST NEED HELP!” The older couple would cower in the house, begging for help and forgiveness. His mind would immediately switch to being panicked and unbelieving of what he had just done. He looked over the doorway and immediately bolted as he saw the older woman dialing a cell phone for police. He would just run, run for hours, until he would just collapse in a park area that he found. He would immediately wake to the sounds of sirens.
20:38
The park was a lovely one, playgrounds, grills, and sheds for family gatherings, but right now, he was being woken up by a female police officer who would tell him that homeless were not welcomed in this area and he would need to go. He would agree and start to walk away before she would say, “Hey, come back, I feel like I have seen something about you…” His body would run cold at that moment, he looked back and smiled, “If it is alright, I would like to just go…” The police officer would not agree as she began to pull her weapon, “You.. .your the mutant…Stop right now or I will shoot…” He couldn’t stop, he couldn’t be taken in, he didn’t know what they would do to him. He raised his hands, feinting compliance before he would shoot the beams again, hitting the police car. He doesn't know what he hit, but the fire and explosion would send both him and the cop flying as he would regain himself quicker and not look back as he began to run, running hard. He would travel anonymously. And now, he was here. He didn’t know what to do at this point, but he knew he was being looked for as the giant billboard he looked at would show “The West Virginia Mutant…”

Harper Collins BOT 02-Jan-23 08:56 PM
Harper was tired today, but that wasn't unlike most days as she stopped into one of the many local coffee shops for a drink with enough caffeine to kill a horse. As a matter of fact she can't remember the last time she wasn't tired. She sat there at the end of the coffee bar letting her mind wander to just how she got into this situation in the first place. All her life she can remember taking care of people, if it wasn't her alcoholic mother it was one of her three siblings come down with another cold. From the time she was old enough to microwave a meal she had basically kept their household together. That is until she finally hit the sweet age of eighteen packed a bag and never looked back. It only made sense, that the universe would pluck her up in her struggle for money and land her in a job that was doing the same thing she was used to; Taking care of people. Or in this case, a person, Grey Northstorm the fucking West Virginia Mutant. That's who she was in New York looking for right now, but somehow he kept slipping through her fingers. I need to get it together so I don't lose this job She thought to herself just before her name was called. Grabbing her coffee she pushed her way back out onto the busy street. "Alright Grey... Where are you.."

Little did she know that Grey Northstorm was closer than she would realize. He would realize that he has wore out his welcome on the bus as he was beginning to get looks from the dirt on his clothes and his odor in the moment, he would begin to move towards his stop. He would begin to step forward, ringing the bell for the bus to stop as he would step off. Around him, the busy street continued to move without any kind of thought towards him or anyone else. Everyone has somewhere to be or something to do, no need to bother with anyone else. He would see a small coffee shop around the corner as he would look around at his surroundings. Realizing that hour 24 of his non-sleep marathon was beginning to wear on him, he would reach into his pocket and grasp the only $20 dollar bill he would have to his name. As he would begin to move to the coffee shop, his eyes would catch a giant screen that seemed to be playing news, a report on the officer that he had... killed... he still couldn't find it in his mind to even think about the death... Not paying attention, he would find himself bumping into a smaller woman who was moving out of the coffee shop as he was rounded the corner into it, "I'm... I'm sorry..." he would stumble out as he looked down at her for a moment, "I didn't see you..."

"Well why don't you watch where you're- oh" oh? Seriously that's the best you could come up with? She thought to herself thankful her coffee didn't spill. She took a couple moments to get her head back on straight before speaking up again. "You're Grey Northstorm right? I've been looking all over the city for you my name's Harper" she scrunched up her face a little "You seriously need a change of clothes... And a shower, everyone is going to mistake you for a homeless person. Although..." Her eyes drifted to the multiple screens around the city with his face and story plastered all over them "..maybe that isn't such a bad thing at the moment" @Jake (edited)

The general immediacy that she noticed him and said that she was looking for him, before beginning to just talk about his clothing and him needing a shower almost sent him into emotional whiplash. Everything in the moment, a sense of urgency to run, a sense of embarrassment in his demeanor and dress, a feeling that this was going to get worse before it got better, he couldn't help but feel aderenline rushing through him, "Never heard of him," Grey would say, trying to be nonchalant about it before slipping around the girl and into the coffee shop, hoping it would be busy enough to lose her in the crown.

They can never just make it easy can they? she thought to herself as she turned with a heavy sigh to follow the man right back into the coffee shop she had just come out of, easily keeping pace with him now that she had him in her sights. "I'm sorry that was probably a bit.. rude of me. You just look like you've had a long um well yeah. Let me get your coffee to make up for it?" she gave the man a small smile, the least she could do really. She had seen the news, been told all about everything that happened by the people who hired her to keep him close, out of trouble if she could manage it somehow. That is if she could keep him from trying to turn on his tail and run again before she even got the chance to explain that. @Jake

As he would enter the shop, his wishes were not answered, it was less busy than he had hoped. Surrounding the counter was only a few people, but still he would try to sink in line and make sure that the person who just noticed him would not follow along, but he was not so lucky in that aspect either as she would come in behind him and offer to buy his drink... Was she offering to buy his drink to make up for the fact that she called him dirty or was she trying to entice him? Did she even believe that he was the mutant now? All the questions running through his mind as he stood and looked over at her, but he would let the words finally verbalize, "I mean, I don't know who you think I am, but I am not going to turn down a free coffee..."

Well that was easier than I thought She followed him to the counter and waited for him to place his order before handing the cashier her card again. "I know who you are Grey Northstorm. There's not a doubt in my mind about that" she followed him to the end to wait for his drink to be ready. "What I don't know is how you managed to make your way all the way to New York" She was trying to be careful, to not push too hard too fast and have him try to take off again, it may have been easy to keep her eyes on him here in the coffee shop but out in the street would be a completely different story. @Jake

There it was again, he thought to himself, trying to not let the panic in his face show as she called him by his name, which he was trying to avoid, "I have no idea who Grey Northstorm is..." he would reply, looking at the small woman next to him, of course, him being 6 foot, 4 inches, everyone was smaller, "Is that the mutant dude people are looking for?" He would step over to the end of the line as well, waiting for his coffee. As soon as he got his coffee, he was gone and never looking back. This was a mistake coming here. Maybe he could just find himself in the woods and get a small cabin or something..

He must be fighting against it.. or maybe he hasn't learned to control it yet She sighed and decided to play along, she could only assume with his face plastered everywhere that he didn't want anyone else to hear his name and cause a scene. Or perhaps he was afraid he would lose control and hurt somebody. Either way that was something she didn't want to deal with. "Yeah that's the guy, I must have had you mixed up with somebody else" she glanced up at him shooting him a knowing look and speaking much quieter with the next words she spoke "Please don't run and make this harder for us both-" She waited for an answer, keeping an eye on his body language. He was nervous, panicked even, she could tell that much and there wasn't much she could do about it here. "-I know somewhere we can go" she offered up hoping maybe that would put him even a little bit more at ease.

"Please, ma'am," he would say, his Southern Appalachian accent beginning to sneak though almost immediately as he spoke softer, "I don't know what you want or what you are doing, but please just go. This is not going to turn out for anyone in here if we cause a scene." He hated that he had no control over his powers, because in this moment, a little bit of a intimidating red eye would be amazing and something to possibly scare her away. He looked down at the floor as he waited for his name to be called.

"Which is exactly why you shouldn't cause a scene for the two of us" she sipped her coffee trying to ignore the way she found his slipping accent charming. "I'm trying to help you, it's my job to help you I can explain more but if you make a scene in the middle of the city there's not going to be very much I can do for you" The kind woman behind the counter called out his order and before he could reach for it she snatched it up herself. She could see in his tired eyes that if anyone needed a pick me up it was him maybe this will make him cooperate for even a few minutes "Would you rather sit or walk?"
