The weekend couldn't come soon enough. It was mid September and ever since graduation, Alistair has started out in this job in sales which wasn't the worst but he absolutely hated his boss and the team that he had been assigned to. It felt like by the time Christmas shopping would come around, his company would have burnt him out by then. But all through the week, he would bite the bullet and just get on with it every day because he knew that the weekend would be a time to relax. And on this Friday, he was hoping that his best friend, Jason would be there for him..
And with that expectation in mind, he would pull out his mobile and type out his message and send it to Jason, asking what Jason was going to do tonight and if he was available for a drink. The time was 13:10 when he sent that message and he didn't really hear back from Jason even if he saw that his message had been read. He sighed out at the common practice of being left on read, which had become a habit now with Jason since Jason and his girlfriend had moved in together.
Alistair placed his mobile back into his pocket assuming that Jason would probably need to ask what Alice was doing and would eventually get back to him since Jason wouldn't really ghost Alistair, well, atleast not often.. And so the shift went by and after the flurry of calls, emails and the onset of post-lunch fatigue and the, almost ceremonial two cups of coffee at 3'o clock, time would eventually slowly and excruciatingly so, reach 5:30 and that was all that Alistair wanted. He would gather his laptop and get ready to move out when he would check his phone again..
And he was almost surprised to find that he hadn't heard back from Jason. He would head out of the office exchanging some wishes with his office colleagues as he finally reached the outside. And almost instantly as he did, he rang up Jason.
"Dude! What's wrong bruh? You haven't replied to my message, I'm off work now, are we getting a drink or what?"
