It was a dark night when a young blonde woman was placed into a cart, blindfolded, and escorted deep into the woods outside of her village. Elora was the unlucky 'sacrifice' that her village had decided to offer up to the 'Monster' that resided in the forest. Elora's village had lived in fear of this monster that roamed at night, but was never seen. People had gone missing, and the elders believed that it was due to the being that resided in the woods. None of them knew what creature resided there, and thus, the beast had become the monster in the woods. No matter what, the elders kept a strict protection on their village with church visitors, blessings, and prayers. Unfortunately, it never seemed to work, as people or animals kept going missing. Finally, one day, they decided to offer up a 'willing' sacrifice in order to satiate the monster's appetite. Unfortunately, young Elora, a girl of twenty two, was chosen. Her mother and father did not try to stop the elders. They knew this day could come, and so it had. Their daughter was to be offered to a monster... Elora did not struggle when the men came to her home on the evening of the selection. She let them place her in a carriage. They blindfolded her with a thick black fabric so that it would be impossible for her to find her way back, if she even attempted to escape. Elora did not move. She stayed quiet and she did not attempt any escape. She had prepared herself for this day once the village elders had told the towns people that they would be selecting a young woman as a sacrifice. She and her parents had cried that night. They mourned the possible sacrifice; and when the time came, she was ready. She had been chosen as the elders believed that a woman held more purity and peace than a male. A male could have been seen as a challenge, and with the village already under threat, the elders wanted to keep things as easy as possible.

Once the carriage arrived at a large tree deep in the woods, several hours away, the driver got out and let Elora and the three guards out. The guards guided Elora to the tree and they tied her up, binding her to the large oak. She was still blindfolded. One of the guards bowed his head and said a quiet prayer for the blonde woman. "May God have mercy on you." Elora nodded sadly, giving the men a sad smile. "May He offer you His love." The men removed the blindfold and then they returned to their carriage. The carriage departed, leaving the young woman alone. It was late now, and time continued to tick by. It was now pitch black outside. Elora swallowed nervously as she heard the snapping of twigs and leaves. Was someone there? Or... was something there? "Well well well. Lookie what we got 'ere, boys!" A thick male voice sounded. Elora's eyes widened as she saw six large men appear through the tree line. The man in the center had a scar across his face, stubble along his chin, and was rounder than a bull. He smelt like one too. He approached Elora and gripped her chin. "Tied up like a little lamb. How cute." He smirked. Elora trembled, jerking her head away. "Stop! Leave me alone." The bull-man snarled, not liking the girl's attitude. He grabbed her hair, tugging her head back. "Now now. That's no way to talk to yer future husband!" He laughed, spittle landing on Elora's cheek. Elora kicked her leg out, hitting the man in the groin. The man grunted loudly, crumpling to the ground. His comrades burst out laughing and the bull-man growled angrily. He stood quickly and pulled a dagger from his side pouch. "Yer gonna regret that, you little bitch." He hissed.

He cut the ropes that bound Elora to the tree, but he grabbed her throat, squeezing tightly. Elora gasped, digging her nails into his arm. "Ah! Fuck!" He dropped her, and Elora took off towards the trees. "Fucking get her!" The bull-man roared. His comrades jumped and took off after Elora. The largest man caught up to Elora and he grabbed her by the arm. He wrenched her against him, pulling her arms behind her back. Elora thrashed in his arms, "Get off! Let me go!" The bull-man appeared, gripping her hair. He ripped her from the large man's hands and threw her to the ground. He stomped on her back and then knelt down, flipping her over. He smirked as he hovered over her. He aimed the dagger towards her, the silver blade shining in the light. He dove it down into her arm, causing her to arch her back and scream. "We were gonna take it easy on ya, but since you wanna be a little cunt, you'll get what you deserve." He spat. He dug the dagger around the wound, making Elora writhe and scream. "Someone!! Anyone!! Please help!!" The bull-man scoffed, gripping her throat with his free hand and stabbing lower on her arm.

The moon rose higher into the darkened sky as low and steady breathes rumbled through the trees, mice and crickets scattering along the cracked concrete below. A large and fur-covered being sat up to look at the light above him, taking a deep breath in and inhaling the crisp, cool air of midnight. Turning his gaze to stare around him, he took in his scenery; A broken building made from orange brick, just large enough to fit the twelve foot creature inside, served as its home. Chipped wooden barrels full of rainwater stood in the corner of the room, illuminated by the holes within the ceiling, catching the beast's attention, just for a moment. He lifted himself off of the ground and onto all fours, flinging dust into the air with his tail as he made his way over to the barrels, picking one up as if it only weighed a few pounds. Staring into the disrupted water, he let out a yawn, his eyes closing to take a long drink of the liquid in his hand. Gulping down the water felt amazing after a long and tiring day. After filling the well full, he set the barrel down and turned towards the opening of the building. Long ago, when he first found this shelter, it was used as a place of worship, or a church as they call it. Mera watched this place fall to the ground after humanity turned against each other in one of their ungodly wars. A bomb was planted right at the entrance to the barricaded building, a bomb that threatened many people’s lives inside. When all the destruction calmed, Mera found himself entering the building and claiming it for himself. And to this day, it remained as his.

Minutes pass by and he could hear the sound of leaves being disturbed in the distance, thinking it may be animals in distress. He’s heard it before, many times a week, when humans would send hunters out this way to slaughter the animals within this valley. Just the thought put Mera in a bad mood. With heavy steps, he exits the building, ducking under the rubble to fit himself through. There was a slight breeze outside the comfort of the walls, blowing his coarse fur around, causing him to shake as the wind made the dust crawl deeper into his pelt. His pupils dilate, noticing some animals approach him and run by, knowing that something big has disturbed them. Turning his head towards the path, Mera continues towards the treeline, his shoulders bumping against the tall wooden poles. Thump. Thump. Thump. The sound of his weight hitting the ground was something out of a horror story. Snap. Twigs breaking under his claws alert more animals to shift away, even in those that the sky held. Mera trudged through the familiar bramble, taking notice of a carriage moving back out of the forest, ‘Another?’ He pondered, wondering why humans keep sending him more and more to slaughter. Then he hears it…Talking. Mera doesn’t hesitate as the noise comes from within his territory, further than these humans are supposed to be anyways. A low growl escapes his throat, rumbling through the trees as he sprints forward. They better take caution, because this is going to get messy.

The bandits that were not savagely stabbing the screaming woman looked around as they heard a growl. "Uh... did you hear that?" A skinny bandit said, looking around. "N...No. Why?" "It sounded like-" The skinny bandit's eyes landed on the large hulking beast running from the trees. It was massive and covered in fur. Large horns stuck up from its head and the look of rage filled its eyes. The bandit screamed, turning and running. The others saw the beast and they too screamed, running for the woods. "What the fuck? Where are you fucking-" He turned and saw the beast. "W-What the fuck is that?!" The bull-man screamed, scrambling off Elora and dropping his dagger. He ran towards the trees as well, panting and gasping for air. Elora laid on the ground, curling into a ball and clutching her bloody arm. She hadn't seen the beast yet. Her eyes were squeezed shut and she was just shaking and whimpering with pain. The bull-man grabbed a heavy machete that hung from his hip and grabbed one of the other bandits, hurling him back. The man tripped, landing on his back. He flipped over and scrambled back, sweat and tears running down his face as he screamed, raising his hands to the beast. "N-No! Stay back! Take her! Don't touch me!" He wailed.

As Mera appears in sight of the humans, he notices how many there are. One. Two. Three. Four. Five. Six. Standing up on his hind legs, Mera doesn’t hesitate to swing his arm into one of the men attempting to flee. The feeling of his talons digging into the male’s stomach, makes a shiver run down his spine, his fur standing on end to put up an aggressive display; as if he couldn’t get any bigger. Gore spills onto the nearby foliage as the male’s lifeless body falls to the ground in a heap. Mera was forced to shake off the rest of the male’s entrails from his claws as they clung to it. His gaze snaps over to the others, hopping over to them as he eyes, what seems to be, the leader of the group, watching as he pushes back one of his comrades. Pathetic. Mera jumps into the air before coming straight down onto the fallen man, his weight crushing the body into some sick mush. Blood now covers his underbody, dripping down onto the grass. His heart rate escalates as he steps forward, leaving the two bodies behind him, letting out a menacing roar that shook the trees. Mera searches around, noticing that a few men had escaped from the beasts’ sight and further into the treeline, taking note that he had already killed two and the scarred man was next, Mera paused to see a woman, that he clearly missed, curled up on the ground beside him. The wounds on her body weren’t too great, but he knew that these men were the culprits and that she was most likely the sacrifice. He’d never seen a woman be sacrificed before, so this experience was completely foreign to Mera and he wondered why they’d do it if she was just going to die from bandits.

Elora heard the screams and the sound of skin ripping and bone snapping like sticks. The sound of blood splashing to the forest floor made her ill. Her eyes were still squeezed shut. The roar of the beast made her whimper and she ducked her head into herself, terrified of what she would see if she looked up. But, curiosity killed the cat, or Elora, if it chose. Elora gazed up and her eyes landed on a massive beast. It's thick fur was standing on end and the rusty iron smell of blood and viscera was strong. It made her stomach churn. She couldn't even scream she was so afraid. The beast stood over ten feet tall and it had massive horns on its bright red head. Elora had tears cascading down her cheeks. She gripped her arm still, keeping pressure on the stab wounds. She looked down and noticed the man that had been crushed underneath the beast. The man's arms were mangled and his head had blown across the grass, the insides blending with the dirt. Elora couldn't hold back anymore. She turned to the side and retched; vomiting up her stomach's contents. She panted heavily as she trembled, turning to stare at the beast. What would it do to her if that's what it did to the bandits?! @Chimera

Mera sprinted forward, lowering himself to the ground before leaping into the air and pouncing onto the Scarred man ahead, rolling them around in the dirt as bones snap beneath them. Mera wanted to make a statement with this one, he wanted them to know what he saw this day and that it’d be the last thing he’d ever set eyes on. Once the male was on their back, Mera takes his back legs and slams them onto the male’s kneecaps, breaking them from the impact. With his mouth agape, Mera lets his saliva coat the male’s face, his throat grumbling with heavy breaths. Mera fed off of the fear around him, the scent of blood filling the air as he stretched his mouth wider and wider. In an instant, Mera lashes downwards, into the male’s chest with his long, razor-like teeth, tearing open the ribcage and pulling out the heart only to crush it in between his teeth. It didn’t take Mera long to spit it out beside him, as human’s always taste horrible.

Elora coughed, her body shaking as she looked over to where the beast was currently devouring the man that had stabbed her. His dying gurgles rang in her ears until his heart was torn from his chest. Elora turned and vomited once more, her lungs and stomach aching. The idea that this beast was tearing the man who assaulted her to pieces was slightly pleasing. Soon, the sounds of the man dying were gone, and Elora panted heavily. She looked over at the beast. Her face was pale and her limbs shook. What on earth was he going to do to her? She seemed to be the only living thing left. She had no strength and she was unable to fight him off. Tears ran down her cheeks. Was she going to die? She hoped not. She whimpered, slowly crawling away towards the trees. @Chimera

Mera steps off of the body, backing up before stopping with a wince of pain. Turning to look at what had caused the sudden ache, Mera noticed that he had stepped on the man’s machete he was carrying on him, slicing the back of his foot. Mera flings the machete into the forest in anger, tossing the body along with it. Three. Three of them got away. With a low growl, Mera realizes that the woman was still curled onto the ground behind him. His eyes narrow as he turns towards her, padding over as blood drips from his fresh wound. The girl seemed to have lost her stomach a few minutes prior to him looking back at her, the stench causing Mera to grimace. Seeing her wound and running over in his mind at why they’d send a girl was enough to have Mera spare her until he could get more information. With his right hand, he reaches out and takes her shaking body into it, examining her as she’s lifted into the air.

Elora gasped as she felt the beast's massive hand circle around her torso. He lifted her into the air and she whimpered in fear. "P-Please...Please... Don't..." Tears continued to pour down her cheeks. She could hear the blood pounding in her ears. She was going to die. Sniffling quietly, Elora touched the beast's wrist. She didn't dig her nails in. She just stared at him, the tears cascading. "Please don't hurt me." She cried. She started to sob, her eyes shutting as she prepared for the beast to attack her. Would it bite her head off? Would it chew through her limbs or her throat? She had no idea and that thought terrified her. @Chimera

Mera stood there, feeling the softness of the woman’s body in his hand, squeezing it ever so slightly in instinct before noticing that the woman had begun to beg for Mera not to hurt her. This wasn’t uncommon, a human begging for their life, but this felt different. Instead of pounding on his arm, fighting or kicking, screaming or yelling, the woman was calm and soft spoken. She even laid her hand on his arm. Mera stares down at her with a blank stare before walking forward with the woman in his hand. She was wounded and he felt the need to do something about it, so he does what he knows best, begin walking towards his home in the forest. Stepping onto branches and many different types of flora, Mera makes his way into the darkness, holding on tighter to the fragile human as owls begin to call out into the night. Mera’s heart was still pounding in his chest, still trying to inhale as much air as he could into his lungs, recovering from so much energy wasted was going to be difficult, but it’s nothing he’s not used to. With a shake of his head, his ears fling off a vast amount of blood into the brush, his tail dragging along the ground behind him as he traverses the land. @Vava Valentine

Elora gasped once more as she felt the beast squeeze her. It stared at her for a while and she wasn't sure what it was going to do for her. It suddenly began to walk with her. She was still in its grasp as it began to walk into the woods. She didn't scream. She didn't thrash like she had with the bandit. Something about the beast and what it was doing now didn't feel dangerous. It felt... like it was trying to help! She had no idea why! She shivered with fear, but she stayed quiet. Her arm was still bleeding and even though she couldn't see, she could smell the gore and blood. Elora didn't know why she did what she did next. But, quietly, she spoke. "Wh-Where...Where are...we going?" She asked quietly, looking back to the beast. Her eyes roamed over what she could see in the moonlight. The beast was honestly, terrifying. But, she didn't know why she was not feeling as terrified.

Mera inches closer to the abandoned church in the distance, looking over at the girl once she starts to speak, ignoring her questions before stopping and letting the woman down and back onto her feet. Once his hand was free, he went back to being on all fours, it took less energy to keep himself up this way. And so, standing in the distance, was the building he called home. Mera was exhausted and needed to rest for the night if he wanted his wounds to heal quicker, “Come.” A low and hoarse growl speaks into the air. If she wanted to heal, she would also have to get to safety before more bandits show up. Paws soaked, tail dragging, ears folded back, Mera steps into the building through the doorway, making his way towards the barrels in the back. His throat was dry and scratchy and once he made it to the water, he dunked his head inside, spilling water all over the ground around him. Gulping water as if he was dehydrated, Mera feels himself regaining a bit of stamina. The water was cold and yet so refreshing, he couldn’t help but finish off one of the many barrels in front of him. @Vava Valentine

Elora looked at the building that they arrived at. It was an abandoned church. It was definitely no longer functional as a church, but it seemed stable enough to be a shelter. It also fit the massive beast, so it was no wonder he chose this place. Elora's eyes widened as he spoke. He spoke! His voice was low and hoarse and it sent a shiver through her spine. "Y-Yes." She followed the beast inside, but as she did, she saw puddles of blood going into the shelter. Her arm wasn't dripping blood, but... "Y-You're bleeding." She said softly. She saw the cut on the beast's foot and she hesitantly approached. The beast was gulping water down as if he was a fish. There were so many barrels! She looked inside one and saw the water. It looked fresh and clean, but she didn't take any. It wasn't hers to take. She looked over at the beast again. The wound was oozing and she reached down to the hem of her dress. Without thinking, she tore at the hem. It was already torn a bit from the bandit attacks, so she was able to tear several strips. She wrapped one around her arm, but, then she went towards the beast. With a shaking hand, she extended the torn fabric. "Uhm...E-Excuse me? Can...Can I wrap your foot with this?" @Chimera

Mera sits himself down onto the ground in front of the now empty barrel, running his arm along his lips to wipe the excess water from them. He listens to the sound of ripping behind him only to turn his head and see the woman coming closer to him. His ears instantly flatten in warning before baring his teeth, standing once more and turning his back leg away from the woman. Mera knew he could tear her apart easily, so a warning would have to do. His eyes were narrowed as he backed up into a corner underneath some stairs. It looked as if the beast created a bed out of straw from the fields along with some twigs mixed in. Laying himself down in the yellow-gray mess, Mera wraps his tail around himself, staring directly at the woman and not taking his eyes off of her. As he lays, he moves his foot up towards him, pressing his tongues against it, attempting to clean off the blood dripping out of it. With a wince, Mera continues. @Vava Valentine

Elora yelped at his frightening expression. He bared his teeth at her! She backed away, shaking. She fell onto her backside, her eyes wide. "O-Okay! Okay! I won't do it!" She covered her head, her eyes wide. Thankfully the beast did not attack her, and instead it retreated back against a corner of the building. Elora moved her arms down and she curled herself up into a ball, watching the beast. But, she saw him lick his wound and wince. She frowned. "It...It's going to get infected. That won't heal it." She watched him do it again. She slowly crawled over. "Let...Let me help." She showed him her wrapped arm. "Here. See? It won't hurt. It'll help stop the bleeding." She said, swallowing nervously. She held the cloth out to him. "P...Please? Let me...Let me help?" She asked again, her voice shaking, but she was trying hard to make him understand that she was trying to help, like he had her! @Chimera

Mera watches the woman fall back on her ass, chuffing at the pathetic reaction before listening to her voice once more. Infected? After hundreds of years, he’s sure he knows how to take care of himself. But yet again, no human has ever offered help in the first place. Mera decides to lower his head, turning it to the side with a huff before stretching out his wounded foot, not bothering to look back at the woman as he didn’t want to show any sort of submission to these creatures. He knew that he had control, but he also wanted her to know that, even if he lets her ‘help’. The breeze started to pick up outside of the building, wind pushing through the open cracks of the brick and swirling around the room. Mera yawned once again, resting his head up on a crate next to him as he waits for the woman to take action. @Vava Valentine

Elora let out a shaky sigh as the beast slowly stuck its foot out to her. "Okay... Now... D-Don't bite me." She said softly. She scooted over to it and she carefully lifted the beast's massive foot up onto her lap. She grunted quietly as the giant clawed foot nearly squished her! "Wow...this is heavy." She laughed quietly. She carefully began to wrap the beast's foot. The fabric she tore was just barely big enough but it was able to cover the beast's wound. She tightened it slightly and then patted the beast's claw. "There. That should keep it from getting infected. I'll check it later." She said quietly. Despite being finished, she did not push the beast's foot off of her. Elora was a little... shocked. She hadn't expected the beast to give her a chance to help it, so she was stunned that she had not been eaten by now! "YouYou spoke earlier. Do...Do you speak...more? Do you have a name?" She asked gently. Her arm was resting on its massive leg. @Chimera

Mera feels his back leg being lifted up onto the woman’s lap, turning his head back to eye her up, making sure she wasn’t up to anything. A second passes by and he feels a stinging sensation crawl up his body as she begins to wrap up the wound. Involuntarily, Mera’s leg pulls back slightly but eventually he lets her finish up. After she had finished with the make-shift bandage, Mera took notice that the woman had not removed his leg from herself, tilting his head in curiosity as she just let it sit there. Her tone was still calm and collected, something Mera wasn’t understanding, especially at the situation at hand and what had happened just minutes ago. “You talk a lot.” He manages to push out, his voice still low and raspy. He didn’t want to take any chances with revealing information to this stranger, due to what had happened long ago, so it’s better off to change the subject, “What is a woman doing out in the woods?” He inquires. @Vava Valentine

Elora huffed a bit as he said that she talked a lot. "You don't." She said softly, a bit shocked at her own chasteness. The beast's questions made her sigh. "My village tied me to the tree. As...As your sacrifice." She said quietly. "I-If you're... the beast of the woods?" She never actually was... introduced. But, he wasn't a human! She honestly didn't even know what he was. "They wanted to offer up me in hopes that our people would stop going missing." She swallowed nervously and looked at the beast. "If...If you won't hurt anymore of the villagers, I'll do whatever you want." She said, staring at the beast, her eyes firm and full of determination. But, she honestly felt terrified. What would this beast want from her? What could she do for it?! "Does...Does that work?" She asked nervously. @Chimera

Mera pulls his leg off of the woman’s lap just after her mentioning that she was, indeed, the villages’ sacrifice. With a low rumble, he thinks for a moment, “Your ‘people’ go missing because they are naive.” He speaks, mockingly. Shifting around, Mera lifts his head from the crate, his gaze fully attentive to the woman, “You’re willing to put your life on the line, just because the village told you to do so?” With a chuckle of disappointment, Mera shakes his head, Humanity, thinking they can overcome everything. Mera sits himself up, his arms placed in front of him with his legs behind, just like a common house cat would do when staring down their food. His tail curls around him, covering the wound on his foot, “Pathetic.” @Vava Valentine

Elora winced as he mocked her. She looked at him with a sad expression. "We are human. We are not gifted with claws or fangs or muscles, like you. We are half of your size..." He continued to mock her, even going so far as to call her pathetic! Elora glared at the beast, "I am not pathetic! I am human. I...I did what I had to, to protect my village. If my death means their safety, then yes. I would put my life on the line." She said firmly. Tears pricked her eyes and she brushed them away. Sitting in the corner, she turned away from the beast. "Just...let me rest here. Once I get some rest, we can discuss what you want me to do." She said. She curled her legs up to her chest and she covered her head with her arms. She buried her face against her arms, tears running down her cheeks. This night had not gone the way she expected, but still. She was terrified, hurt, and tired. After a little while, she drifted into a light slumber. But, due to her lack of body fur, or a blanket, she began to shake. She shivered with the chill of the air. @Chimera

Mera didn’t respond to the woman’s ‘attempt’ of an argument as he was way too exhausted for it. Turning his head to look up and out of the hole in the ceiling, Mera watches the moon drift past its place high in the sky. It was early morning and soon the sun would rise. He yawned, baring his teeth once more before settling himself down on the straw bed below, swaying his tail around and facing away from the woman. With his stomach close to the wall and his head curled into his upper arms, Mera’s eyes begin to close, a loud huff exiting his lungs. With the bandits coming this far into the forest, it got Mera slightly worried about what they had seen a few hours ago. If fear continues to grow within the town, he’ll be safe. But the moment people start gossiping about actually seeing the beast, more and more people will try to venture out here. More lives would be lost and the cycle would continue. He would have to leave this home he’s been in for a few months. @Vava Valentine

As the night went on, Elora merely continued to shiver. The cold night air was blowing in from the opening in the front door. She knew nothing of the beast's dilemma, but she had been exhausted. She woke due to the cold and she began to stretch her legs, trying desperately to get comfortable. However, due to the lack of cover and the chill, she felt no relief. She sighed softly. She looked at the beast, wondering if it even cared if she got up. Hesitantly, she moved from her spot in the corner. She stood up and stretched her arms over her head, hearing a small 'pop' in her back. She stepped out of the massive building and now, the moonlight gave off enough of a glow that she could see the pathway into the woods. She didn't want to go too far, lest the bandits come back. But, she did want to find somewhere comfortable. Elora walked around the other side of the church, and she found a spot that was at least comfortable looking. It was a big pile of leaves, so she went over and laid down, curling into a ball. She wasn't much warmer, but it would have to do. She shut her eyes and slowly drifted to sleep. @Chimera

Mera didn’t stir whilst he slept, for the rest of the night, he was still with low and steady breathing. His ears twitched every now and then due to bugs trying to find shelter within his thickened coat. As birds began to chirp within the distance, Mera’s eyes opened to find the early morning of dawn approaching. The sun wasn’t overhead yet and wouldn’t be for another hour or so. But, this was the perfect time for Mera to awaken. Shifting around, Mera grumbles, his cracking and shrinking within itself as his body begins to morph. Claws retracting into his hands along with his digitigrade legs becoming straight and human-like. It was a painful process as his bones were breaking and healing themselves in seconds. Gritting his teeth, Mera’s third eye closes and his horns, ears and facial features disconnect themselves, turning into a mask that sits on his face. Orange eyes peer through the holes of the mask as his own blood pours down his body, coating what fur he had left. Mera stands, grasping onto the crate next to him as he looks around for the clothing he had made for this form, sighing as he seemed to have left it at the grotto just yesterday. Another ‘chore’ he’d be doing today. Looking around the room, Mera noticed that the woman wasn’t in sight nor was she anywhere in the building. Mera felt a bit of relief as he now believed he didn’t have to watch over a human, nor would she be ‘helping’ him. Still bent over the crate, Mera took some time to adjust to his humanoid form, as it took a lot of toll on the body. @Vava Valentine

Elora woke in the early morning, the sun just barely rising. She yawned and stretched her arms over her head. She was still freezing, but she had managed to survive the night, surprisingly. She stood up from the bundle of leaves and she made her way back towards the entrance of the church. When she walked in, she spotted the now humanoid form of the beast. But, she hadn't expected it, so she shrieked. She lifted a large rock and held it up. "Wh-Who are you? G-Go away! Shoo! Shoo! This isn't your home! It b-belongs to...s-someone else! Get!" She yelled. She did not realize the humanoid beast was the same twelve foot tall beast from last night.

After a few seconds, Mera pulled himself from the crate, gritting his teeth and stretching out his arms. With a couple cracks and pops, Mera exhales a satisfied sigh before hearing some noise begin to stir just outside of the building. His mind goes straight to the woman last night and wonders if she had just wandered off and is coming back. Then she comes into view, her expression terrified. Mera tilts his head and watches as she picks up a nearby rock, picking up his tail and making it visible to the woman, “Do you really think I’d stay in that form forever?” He huffs before turning and trying to wipe his own blood from his body, “Put the goddamn rock down, you look stupid.” The attempt of wiping the blood off of his pelt ultimately failed, as Mera was just smearing it at this point. With a defeated huff, Mera begins to walk towards the entrance of the building, passing the woman with a bump of the shoulder, making his way outside. @Vava Valentine

Elora was still shaking, but as the beast began to speak, she realized what happened. He...He had shrunk? What? What the hell was going on?! He immediately began to scold her, ordering her to put the rock down. However, he then approached her, his shoulder slamming into her. "Ah!" She jumped wincing. "Ow.." She tossed the rock onto the dirt. She turned and began to follow the beast. He was covered in blood, and she wondered how he was going to get it off. "Don't call me stupid... I don't know anything about you." She grumbled. She managed to catch up to him, and she looked his form over. "So... you have... just two forms?" She tilted her head out of curiosity. However, she noticed something. The edge of the red part of his face, wasn't exactly flush to the rest of him. 'Is...that a mask?' She wondered. Well, she'd just have to wait and see if his mouth moved. @Chimera

Mera continues forward, knowing he’s going to have to clean himself soon since he has an open wound on his foot, “I waste less energy when I’m smaller.” He answers, scratching his shoulder blades with his fingertips. Mera wasn’t exactly ‘smaller’ as he still stood 6’0”, but without the mass of the beast, he was a lot easier to handle. Looking over his shoulder to see the woman following him as if she were a sheep, his eyes roll, “I guess you could call it one. But it’s still a part of me.” He hesitantly answers the woman’s question, as he never really thought about it before. Still moving forward and now pushing through trees and other parts of the bramble, Mera turns his head towards a small path leading into, what looks like, a cliff, stepping onto it and beginning to follow. @Vava Valentine

"Oh! Right... Well, that's really interesting. She followed quietly, her footsteps softer than his. He was definitely a strange creature. When he turned onto the path that lead to the cliff, Elora's eyes widened. They were going onto a cliff? She'd have to be careful. She followed him without question. But, why was she following him? She didn't even know, really. She just...She felt safer around him. Quietly, Elora spoke. "How old are you?" She asked quietly. "You don't look old." She figured he was rather young, but she wasn't exactly sure. She didn't want to offend him. He had seemed pretty bitter towards her. But, he hadn't told her to go away yet, so maybe he did enjoy her company?

As the cliff approaches, a few boulders stick out from the ground, a crack separating them and leading down into darkness, “If I knew an exact age, I would say.” He pauses, stepping up to the two boulders and peering into the darkness, “I’ve been around to watch the pyramids be built if that helps.” He adds on, stepping into the small crevice and making his way downwards into a cave hidden behind the massive rocks. Mera didn’t understand why he was letting this woman follow him, but he knew she wouldn’t cause any harm as of right now. Then again, he wasn’t inherently aggressive, it was humanity that changed him. Pushing deeper into the darkness, luminescence scatters around on the cavern walls, lighting up the surrounding area and shining down onto the damp rock below. The sound of water was heard all around, filling the atmosphere as Mera traversed through, soon coming into view of a large room filled with moss and glow worms. The room held a massive pool of water which seemed to bubble every now and then, a cavern grotto that was used as a place of baptism in earlier times. @Vava Valentine

Faelyn nodded at his statement. When he mentioned the pyramids, Faelyn’s eyes widened. “Wow… that’s… old.” She said, mostly because she was just so shocked!! That was a really long time ago and she hadn’t expected him to be that old! Hesitantly, she followed him down into the cavern. It was dark and she was a bit nervous, but, once they got deeper into the cavern, little glowing mosses and rocks filled the room, giving off a beautiful colorful glow. The pool of water was gorgeous and Faelyn’s eyes widened. “Wow…” She stepped to the edge of the pool. She had heard about this kind of place, but she had never seen one before. “Do you bathe here a lot?” She asked, turning to look at the beast. She glanced down at her muddy appearance and she quietly, and shyly, asked, “May I bathe as well?” @Chimera

Mera steps over to a small ridge just before the water, spotting his worn leather shorts sitting right where he had left them. Turning towards the water and reaching down to take the temperature, Mera feels the warmth overcome his finger tips. The water always felt this way whenever he came around. A soft exhale pushes through Mera’s lips as he lifts his foot and places it into the pool, bringing his body to stand over it, “That’s why it’s here, isn’t it?” He chuffs before lowering himself into the water, his tail sliding in behind him before sinking. It felt amazing, the blood circling around him in a crimson cloud as it falls from his body. Leaning back, Mera closes his eyes, relaxing his muscles, finding peace in the sounds of the water. @Vava Valentine

Nodding and ignoring his snappy comment, she stripped her dress up and off. She set it down onto the rocks beside the pool of water. Now standing bare, Elora followed the beast's example and stepped into the water of the pond. The water was cool yet warm. It wasn't freezing, which she appreciated! She walked up to her chest and she started to rub her arms, her torso, her legs, and anything else she could get clean. She stayed quiet so as not to disturb the beast. It seemed to be enjoying itself. Blood pooled around it and she shivered. Her own wound was still bloody, though not as much. She wiped it clean, removing all the dirt from the previous night. It didn't hurt that bad but once the cool water touched it she hissed in pain. @Chimera

Mera reaches his arm up to scratch behind his ear, removing some built up gore hiding under the folds, opening his eyes to stare up at the cavern’s ceiling, “What purpose did you have at your village?”He asks, genuinely curious as he’s still trying to figure that out for himself. After asking the question, Mera lowers his gaze to look at the woman before returning to himself and beginning to wipe the excess blood from his arms and torso. It was already hardened and caked into his fur, which made it more difficult to remove, but nothing he couldn’t handle. As the blood pooled around him, it soon began to flow into a small opening within the cave, leaving the main pool and going into another hidden one. With the water almost clear again, Mera dunked his head under and washed his mane-like hair underneath, breaching the surface once he had felt he had gotten a lot of the muck out of it. His mask still sitting tightly on his face, Mera reaches up and wipes the water from his eyes, shaking his head and flinging water around. @Vava Valentine

Elora was up to her chest in the water, which made her feel a little more comfortable. "I was an herbalist. My father was a blacksmith and my mother was a baker. I wanted to help people in a different way. My mother could bake anything, and my father's armor and weapons were some of the best in the region. So... I decided I would be an herbalist that could help people survive and feel better if they became ill." She said quietly. She looked over, watching the beast clean himself. She noticed that his mask stayed right on. "Where did you get your mask? Or did you make it? It's very well crafted." She said, giving him a gentle smile. She wanted to try to extend some kindness to him, and... maybe earn some of his kindness in return. @Chimera

Mera pauses to look over at the woman once more, knowing that humans don’t know anything about his kind. It’s not like he had anything better to do at this time, so he leaned back, “When being around a certain species for a long time, I can take their form. Not fully, but just enough.” He pauses again, looking down at himself, “As you can see.” Shifting around in the water, Mera speaks again, “No matter what form my body can take, I always have a piece of myself that stays relatively close to my true shape.” Pointing to his mask, Mera blinks, “In reality, this isn’t a mask. It’s a piece of myself that has formed over hundreds of years. It separated itself from me the more I spent time here on earth, creating this ‘mask’.” Mera felt an odd connection to this woman and he didn’t feel the need to keep much from her at this time. It was definitely a strange and new feeling, but he was open to exploring it, as long as it didn’t take a nasty turn. @Vava Valentine

Elora had moved so that she was a bit closer. The beast began to speak. He explained the concept of his mask, how it formed throughout the years he lived here on Earth. While it was technically a mask, it was still apart of him. That she understand, and she nodded to reflect that. "That's really interesting. In a way... it makes sense. It's... a separation, and yet, it's still you." She said softly. "You've been here a long time, you said? Do...Do you have a name? I realized I never caught it." She said, blushing a little in embarrassment. However, she was now less than one foot from him. She stuck her hand out, giving him a soft smile. "My name is Elora." @Chimera
Avatar
As Mera finishes up his little spiel about himself, he takes notice of how close the woman had become, tilting his head a bit as he listens to her ask for his name. No human really asked this of him before, so it was a surprise when he heard it again after a long time. Elora, What a pretty name for such a small girl. With a chuff, Mera speaks, “People call me Mera as I cannot verbally translate my true name.” He answers, shifting himself in the water before reaching out his hand and taking Elora’s. A gentle shake of the arm and Mera had finally introduced himself to a human after a few hundred years. Letting the woman’s hand go, Mera rests his arms on the sides of the pool, holding himself up and letting his tail float around him, “Later tonight, I will take you back to your village. Maybe then they will stop venturing into my territory.” He grumbles. @Vava Valentine

Elora smiled as he said what he was called. "Mera... That's a really nice name." She grinned. His hand was larger than hers and definitely not as human, but she didn't mind. "It's nice to meet you, Mera." She said, happy that it seemed they were finally starting to become friends. However, her thoughts clearly had gone off track, as the next words made her eyes widen. He was... going to take her home? This was a good thing, and yet, why did she feel a stinging pain in her chest at the idea? "Oh...uhm... of course. That would probably be best." She said, forcing a smile. She looked down at the water. Her chest felt... hollow. She thought that perhaps she had found a friend, but perhaps that just wasn't the case. "Has...Has my village bothered you for a long time?" She asked quietly. @Chimera

Mera taps his fingers to a small rhythm against the rocks lining the water, “Ever since the village was built.” He responds, sighing in the process. Who knows if taking her back would even satisfy their urges against the unknown, Mera was just throwing out random ideas until one would finally work. “Humanity is persistent.” He huffs, pausing and remembering all of his encounters beforehand, “It’s annoying.” He adds, lifting himself from the pool and onto the surface a foot above. His fur coated body dripped with water, causing an eerie echo to occur within the cavern. Seating himself on a rock next to his leg wear, he patiently waits for himself to dry, a slight breeze swirling through small cracks in the walls. Looking back at the woman he raises a brow, “Another thing to add would be; you get to go home alive.” It was almost a compliment but still sounded like a threat. @Vava Valentine

Elora nodded, but it still didn't make her feel much better. "I understand. I...I just..." She stopped. He clearly seemed dissatisfied with humans, and humanity, and so, asking him if she could stay would be unwelcomed. That much was clear. However... Elora turned and looked into his eyes, or where she believed his eyes to be under the mask. "Could I come visit you once you take me back?" She smiled up at him, curious to see if he would allow her to return on a visiting basis, rather than living here in the woods with him. @Chimera

Mera listens to the woman stutter as if she wanted to say something. His head angles to the side, waiting for her to spit it out before it happens. A human wants to come see him regularly without the intent of harm? Thinking about it for a moment, Mera responds, knowing for sure she couldn’t do anything to him even if she tried, “Fine, but the moment you bring ‘friends’..” He pauses, narrowing his eyes, “Your village is done.” It wasn’t a hard thing to ask for, then again he can’t let humans think they can just run everything. Running his hand through his hair, Mera slightly grabs onto his mask, reaching under it with his fingertips to remove extra hair from his eyes. @Vava Valentine
Avatar
Elora was shocked that Mera actually allowed her to come. He gave her a condition that if she brought 'friends' then her village would be done. She nodded. "I understand. There's no need to worry about that anyway. I...I don't have any friends." She said quietly, looking at the water. Elora was a kind girl, and while her village was tolerant of her, not many people her age were interested in the things she was. This made it harder for her to find friends. Elora glanced back up and saw Mera lift his mask slightly. Quietly, Elora asked something she wasn't even confident in. "Can...Can I see your face? The one under the mask..." @Chimera
Avatar
Mera removes his fingertips from the crevice of the mask, letting it fall flat back onto his face. Turning his head away to take in his surroundings and make sure everything was as it was supposed to be, he clears his throat. “I don’t find there to be a need to see it.” He answers, a passive aggressive tone overcoming him. The woman was definitely strange for a human. Different from many he has encountered before, even after seeing what he had done the previous night. Remembering that he still had that awful taste of human flesh floating in his mouth. Taking one of his nails and picking at his teeth, he removes a small chunk from the bone, flicking it elsewhere. @Vava Valentine

Elora didn't listen and she got out of the pool. She wrung her hair out and grabbed her dress, pulling the fabric over her head. She went to sit beside him, her eyes scanning over his mask. "Aww, are you sure? I'm sure your face looks fine! I'm just curious what your face looks like." She said, smiling up at him. "Please, Mera?" She asked, tilting her head, her wet hair dangling down by her lap. She was definitely surprised by her own actions, Not even twenty four hours ago, she had watched this 'beast' rip apart several human men, blood and gore splattering his fur. But, now, she wanted to see his face. It was definitely strange, but, she felt comfortable. He clearly wasn't a bad creature. He was actually very nice!

Mera watches as the woman lifts herself from the pool and places her dress back onto her body, not sure what her intentions are at this point. With a soft swallow, he finds her sitting awfully close to himself, his eyes don’t leave her figure. She was extremely persistent but Mera was also very stubborn and he would not give in easily, so he sat there, unmoving. A few seconds pass and he scoots her over with his powerful tail, creating a bit of space between them, “What’s got you so curious anyways?” He asks hesitantly. @Vava Valentine

Elora moved as his tail pushed her. She huffed a bit. She hadn't been that close to him! He was so sensitive. "I'm just curious. Your mask is very intricate, but, I never saw your face. So, I'm just curious to see. Is that such a bad thing?" She asked softly. She looked at his large tail and even that no longer frightened her. "If we're going to be friends, I'd like to know more about you." She smiled at him again. He probably wouldn't like being called friends, but, she wanted to be friends! So, perhaps maybe, just maybe, he'd extend a hand to her this time?

Mera seems taken back by Elora’s comment. “Friends?” The questions pushed through his lips. He’s never really heard the word before except many years ago, not even then did he understand the concept. Moving his tail back behind him, Mera stands, taking the cloth pieces from his side and sliding them over his legs to cover himself, “You humans make no sense.” Situating himself and brushing off the excess water from his hair and torso, Mera huffs, “Don’t expect me to give in to the pressure.” He pauses with a huff, “No human has or will ever see me remove this from my face.” He chuffs, pointing to his mask before walking towards the cavern’s exit. @Vava Valentine

Elora sighed, but stood and followed him to the cave's exit. "Alright alright! Slow down!" She called. "I didn't mean anything by it! I was just curious. Aren't you curious sometimes? Wouldn't you be interested in learning new things? Maybe even about humans?" She asked cautiously, jogging to catch up with the long legged being. She managed to catch up to him and she looked up at him. "I mean... if you are, you can always ask me some questions." @Chimera

Mera continues forward, not looking back to see if Elora was following or not. He only knew she was trailing behind by her voice and the way her footsteps sounded upon the rock. With a sigh, Mera stretches his neck, tilting his head side to side, was he curious about humans? No. He hated them. Everyday here they’ve made his life worse. But, this one..This one isn’t afraid. “I take no interest in the blood-thirsty filth called humanity.” He grumbles under his breath, adjusting his shorts as he exits through the opening they came into, “They’ve done nothing but plague this planet and worsen the environment.” @Vava Valentine

Elora sighed softly as he promptly shut her down. "But...I'm not blood thirsty. You can't hate all humans, can you? You don't hate me, right?" She asked, jogging further to him. She was panting softly as she struggled to catch her breath. The morning air was cool and crisp, but was starting to get warm. "I'm curious about you too! Come on, we could at least talk!" @Chimera

Mera steps onto the grass coated forest floor, pausing to turn around and stare down at Elora, his eyes narrowing at her persistence, “Are you always this annoying?” He questions in an almost mocking tone, his tail flicking side to side as if he was becoming aggravated. Mera didn’t like to be put in the position of Interrogation, so when Elora began asking questions upon questions, his tone changed, “I’m not supposed to be something you humans should be approaching. I wasn’t designed to befriend your species. I was meant to destroy it and keep you all from multiplying.” He growls, knowing damn well he hasn’t a clue what his true purpose is. Mera was just full of humanity and didn’t want anything else to do with them unless it involved ridding them from the planet. @Vava Valentine

Elora stepped back as Mera turned and snapped at her. He asked if she was always annoying and her face fell into one of pain. She hadn't meant to upset him, but... his next few words made her chest ache and her cheeks burn. He...He was meant to destroy humanity? No, no that wasn't possible. Quietly, she asked, "Then why did you save my life? Why didn't you just kill me too then?" She spat back, her face showing the pain that she felt within. Her hands were shaking a little, her heart thudding heavily in her chest. "I thought we were becoming friends..." @Chimera

Mera’s ears flattened and his posture loosens when he was then questioned about saving the woman’s life. He was at a loss of words, he didn’t know what to say to that. With a stiff swallow, he stumbles on his words a bit, “I..I haven’t figured that out yet.” He admits. He couldn’t think of anything else to justify his unknown motive. Shaking his head and closing his eyes for a moment, he sighs and turns away from Elora, continuing onwards and ignoring the last comment Elora had made, “I’ve got to get you back to your home.” @Vava Valentine

Elora didn't know how to feel. She didn't move as he continued. She heard him say that he wanted to get her back to her home. Quietly, Elora backed away. "I'll go home myself. You don't need to bother yourself with me anymore." She said softly. So much for trying to make a friend. She guessed the kindness he had shown her when he saved her life was just a one time deal, and probably because he didn't see her as a threat. She looked at him one more time before she went into the bushes. She started to walk through the brambles. If he didn't want her around anymore, fine. She didn't need him. She would be fine all on her own! But, why did she feel so hurt at his words. Elora brushed a stray tear that rain down her cheek. @Chimera

Mera stops to look back behind him, seeing that Elora had wandered into the woods on her own. Mera huffs, before taking a seat on the forest floor, leaning himself against a tree. Was he glad he didn’t have to take the girl back? Or was he frustrated that she left on her own without his guidance? He wasn’t sure. Mera sits there, taking in the silence of the forest, realizing how quiet it actually was. It was still early in the day and the sun hadn’t reached its peak in the sky, allowing for the coolness to still immerse itself within the air. It was a perfect temperature to go out and wander the forest..But that was also a curse in itself. Mera knew that there would be humans pushing into his territory to find the beast that killed their kind just the other night. Upon thinking of this..Mera paused, if they came back and found the girl, she was a goner. Without another thought, Mera picks himself up and begins in the direction of the girl, hoping no one had caught up to her. @Vava Valentine

Elora felt the sadness spread through her. He had called her annoying! That, she could normally handle, but how he claimed to be designed to destroy humanity... how angry he became... it just... hurt. She had tried so hard to be kind to him, and in the end it just completely hurt her. She kept walking for a while, walking aimlessly. But, she stopped when she heard a low growl. She looked around, not seeing anyone. "M-Mera? Is that...Is that you?" She asked quietly. The growl deepened and Elora gasped as she saw a large form jump out from the bushes. A large rabid bear had found her. It's eyes looked hazy with sickness and it was foaming at the mouth. It roared loudly, standing on its hind legs. Elora screamed and took off, running quickly through the trees. The bear tore after her, its large lumbering form closing the distance that Elora created. Elora ran quickly, but she was no match for the bear's speed. She also looked behind her, and in doing so, her foot caught a large root and sent her crashing to the forest floor. She turned on her back, just as the bear swiped at her, its large claws slicing her shoulder. She cried out and gripped her shoulder, blood spilling out onto the dirt. Tears ran down her cheeks as she backed up, crashing against a tree. "G-Go away! Please! Just leave me alone!!" She screamed, covering her head with her arms. The bear roared again, ready to claim its meal. @Chimera

As Mera pushes himself in the direction the girl had gone, he hears an ear piercing scream bellow into the atmosphere. Opening his eyes a bit more, Mera dashes towards the scream, the scent of blood filling his nose. What did she get into this time.. Mera jumps over the many fallen trees ahead, pushing away the branches that get in his way. As he sprints forwards, his bones begin to stretch and break apart. Claws pushing through his fingertips and his body growing in size, Mera was ready for a fight. It doesn’t take him long to enter upon the scene, a thundering growl entering the fray as Mera charges into the small clearing and pouncing the bear before it could leave another scratch on Elora. As Mera takes it to the ground, The bear retaliates and bites down onto his collar, leaving a loose tooth embedded within Mera’s hide. With a wince, Mera takes his claw and swipes down at the beast, tearing pieces from the animal, not hesitating. @Vava Valentine

Elora ducked down, her arms over her head, however, she heard another roar, but this time it wasn't towards her! Elora's eyes snapped open and she saw another tall figure. "Mera!" She screamed as the bear bit down on his collar. "No!!" The bear roared as it was cut across the chest. The bear was far weaker due to its illness, so once Mera slashed it, blood poured from its chest. It stumbled backwards and then collapsed onto its back, blood pooling onto the ground, its eyes going blank as it passed on... On trembling legs, Elora got up. "M-Mera! Mera!" She ran to his side. Tears kept falling down her cheeks. "Oh my God... Oh no. No no no! Mera! I'm so sorry! W-What can I do?" She saw the loose tooth in his collar, so she hesitantly reached for it. "I'm gonna take this out... i-it's going to hurt..." She inhaled before she gripped it and pulled it out. @Chimera

Mera watches as the bear stumbles back and is taken by the afterlife. God his neck definitely stung from that bite, reaching up to graze the wound with his paw before wincing and removing it. Looking over towards Elora, he notices her eyes full of tears, tilting his head in slight confusion as she cries out. With his ears back, Mera feels a tug on his collar, the tooth being ripped out of his hide. His eyes widen as he lets out a pained growl before lifting his paw to the now open wound, holding it tightly. His body sits itself down, heavy breaths exiting his nose as he tries to process everything that just happened. A bit angry at Elora’s recklessness, he mutters something, “This is why you shouldn’t go alone..” Lifting his paw to look at the blood pooling in his fur, he sighs. He just cleaned this mess and now he’s covered in blood once more. Lifting his head to look at Elora, he searches her body with his eyes to make sure she was okay, taking notice of the slice running upon her shoulder. @Vava Valentine

Elora felt awful. Thanks to her, he was injured. She caught the tail end of his muttering and she knew it was all her fault. She had tried to leave to avoid this, but clearly no matter what she did, it wasn't the right decision. "I'm...I'm so sorry, Mera. I'm so sorry." She slowly reached up to his wound. As she did, the slice in her shoulder throbbed and she winced. But she pushed through her pain. She pressed her hand to his shoulder, covering the wound. "I-I'll...I'll fix it. I promise. I am so sorry." She whispered, tears running down her cheeks. "I didn't want to bother you, but I just made things worse." She whispered, her tears just continuing to run down her cheeks. @Chimera

Mera watches as Elora pushes through her own pain to attempt to fix his, gently pushing Elora’s arm down to her side so her wound wouldn’t be stretched, Mera speaks, “Don’t worry about me. We need to get you taken care of.” With a step forward, he lifts the woman into his arm, holding onto her as he walks back into the forest. ‘I know some herbs that’ll help with the bleeding.”, Mera says, leaves brushing against his outer coat as blood drips onto the ground behind him. His breaths were heavy, exhausted from the injuries from the night before and from a few minutes prior. Why was he trying to save this woman, anyways? She had done nothing for him except for give him someone to talk to. Was that it? Was he just lonely? Shaking the thoughts from his head, he walks, stepping on sticks and other types of bramble along the way. It was rather silent from that point on. @Vava Valentine

Elora felt guilty as he pushed her arm down. He said that they needed to take care of her. But she wasn't the one with a huge wound! Well, she was, but so was he! He suddenly lifted her up and she held onto him, looking down. "Thank you..." She whispered. She was quiet. She felt so awful. His injuries were due to her and her actions. As the two finally returned to his home, she got down. "Please let me take care of you too." She said firmly, giving him a hard stare. "I caused this... Please let me fix it." As the two enter his home territory, Mera allows the woman to climb down from his grasp before seating himself on the stiff ground, staring down at the human, “There’s really no need to shed tears, Elora.” He mutters before breaking down his body to a familiar humanoid form. The wound was much greater on this form and the muscle was torn apart, skin dangling from either side of the wound. Mera lifts his hand to feel the open sore, grimacing before quickly removing his hand as it did, very much, hurt. “Do what makes you feel better.” He mutters, not wanting to argue with the woman anymore, his body was already becoming tired from the bloodloss. @Vava Valentine

Elora frowned as he told her there was no need for tears. There was! Didn't he see the blood that was pouring out of him!? "Please just... just let me fix it." She whispered. She saw how tired he was becoming, and she kicked it into high gear. The building he was in didn't have medical supplies, but she did find some old fabric and a bucket, so she quickly gathered the fabric and bucket. She ran outside with the bucket and filled it with cool water. She ran back inside and she knelt down by him. She tore a section of the fabric to make a cloth. She dipped the cloth into the water and she dabbed at his wound, cleaning it as much as possible. Once she was satisfied with the cleanliness of the wound, she wrapped the fabric around his shoulder, tying it in a tight knot at the end to ensure it was secure. Upon completion... Elora looked at Mera, her eyes scanning his body for any other wounds. But, she didn't see any. She set the supplies aside. Now, she was simply ready for him to get better... She took one of his hands in hers. "What can I do to help you? How can I be an asset to you, instead of an enemy?" She asked softly. @Chimera

Mera leans himself back slightly, holding himself up with one of his arms as his eyes become heavier. It’s been a long time since he’s felt this type of exhaustion from a wound. And to think, he’s never been attacked by an animal before, especially one of that nature. Mera has never seen such an angry bear before, like he had lost his sentience. Mera loses himself in his thoughts before seeing Elora wander back with a bucket and cloth, not even noticing she had left in the first place. The cool water that made contact with his wound was almost refreshing as it was creating an uncomfortable warmth around his collarbone and shoulder. Mera’s eyes shut for a moment, trying to regain more energy but slowly succumbing to unconsciousness. It wasn’t until Elora had finished wrapping up the wound and then taking his hand in hers when Mera’s eyes reopened, turning his head to look at their hands. Her words seemed as though she wanted to be useful, reminding Mera of himself, but he had no idea on how to make it happen either, “I don’t need help, Elora. I’m perfectly fine by myself.” He pauses, turning his head away and looking up to the sky, “I’ve done it for the past hundred or so years.” @Vava Valentine

Elora frowned slightly as Mera stated that he didn't need help. He was perfectly fine. "But... look at this wound. What would have happened if I didn't help bandage it? You could have gotten an infection and gotten sick and died! You can't live entirely by yourself..." She looked down, shaking her head. "And...doesn't it get lonely? No one to talk to? No one to spend time with? That sounds... awful!" She said, looking back at him. "Mera, I...I don't want to leave your side. What if you get hurt again? If you get hurt again and I couldn't help... I...I'd never forgive myself." She said softly. Her eyes stung with fresh tears. The thought of him dying and her not being able to help, especially after he helped her, it just... it hurt too much. Tears continued to run down her cheeks.

Elora’s words stuck inside Mera’s mind, never thinking about the concept of loneliness before until she came into his life only a few hours prior. He didn’t give an answer as he was too exhausted to even try. With a huff, Mera’s body begins processing the toxins that entered his body, slightly speeding up his recovery, but not in a comfortable way. Mera’s eyes glass over before his body forces out a cough, white foam spilling from his mouth. Lifting his arm up to Elora’s face, he wipes the tears from her cheeks, before his body jolts and more foam falls from his mouth, seeping out underneath his mask. The pain was a whole new experience to him, what was happening to his body? And what’s with this disgusting froth secreting from his maw? As Mera sits, trying to process what was happening, his joints lock up and he falls back onto the ground, eyes clenched shut as a sharp pain runs up and down his body. Blood continued to pool into the bandage as his body convulsed every now and then, a feeling of fear overcoming him as he had no control over what was happening. @Vava Valentine

Elora's eyes widened as Mera started to cough, white foam spilling from his mouth and under the mask. Panic started to flood in Elora's veins. Her heart slammed into her chest. She sat up on her knees, her hands going to his arms. "Mera? Mera! What's wrong? What's happening?" His bandages were getting soaked with blood and Elora gasped. She quickly got up from her spot on the floor, "Hold on, Mera. Just hold on, please!" She ran towards the spot where she got the fabric and she tore more off of it. She ran back to Mera's side and she tugged him onto her lap. Well, his upper half at least. Elora's hands were trembling. She whimpered softly, panic flooding her. "Mera... Mera, please... What's wrong?" The white foam was dripping from under his mask. She reached up and gripped the edge of it, and then, without a moment's hesitation, she ripped the mask up and off. She set it down beside him, looking at his face. @Chimera

As Elora began freaking out more and more, Mera sat there with a severe pain erupting into his veins, his muscles tensing up. Without a moment's notice, Mera feels his mask being pulled from his face, his eyes widening as sparks fly from the mask and Mera’s facial features. Once the mask had reached a certain distance from him, the sparks stopped, revealing his human-like face, his mouth still foaming. Mera’s eyes shoot open as he sits himself up and begins coughing up the rest of the foam onto the ground next to him. Removing the mask seemed to give him a bit more control of his body as of right now, knowing that it had removed a part of him that held his pain receptors. Not looking back at Elora, he lifts his fingers up to his mouth, wiping the excess saliva from his lips to look at it. Yes, Mera was upset that Elora had ripped his mask off and he wanted to scream and yell at her for doing so, but he couldn’t bring himself to do it as removing it seemed to slow the effects of the bite. Blood still soaked into the cloth, some leaking from underneath the bandages and dripping down his arm, “Y..you..” He begins, lifting his hand to his face now, feeling his features and looking back to the mask that seemed to stare back at him. @Vava Valentine

Elora's eyes widened as she saw his human face. It was... handsome. Mera sat up and she let out a small sqeak as he sat up. He spoke, but his voice was soft. He was still hurt so Elora leaned forward and tried to tend to his wound. "I'm sorry...I-I didn't know what to do. I just...I had to get to your wound and you were foaming and..." She trembled slightly. "Please don't be mad." She tightened the wrap around his wound, and using the extra cloth she had found, She tied it tighter and stuffed some inside the wrapping as a barrier. As she did so, it seemed to stem the bleeding a bit. With a relieved and shaky sigh, Elora wiped her forehead. "I...I think I got the wound to stop bleeding for now." Carefully, she looked up at him. "If...If it's any consolation... you actually look really handsome." @Chimera

Mera sits there in disbelief, staring down at his mask, wondering what had just happened to him. Would the effects return if he placed the mask back on? Mera didn’t know the answer to that, but as of right now, he didn’t want to find out. Turning his head to look back at Elora, he angles his head slightly, “Handsome?” He questions, not knowing the origin of the word. Picking himself up from the ground, he coughs, running his tongue along his chapped lips and swallowing. Mera didn’t know how to feel about a human seeing his face and he wasn’t sure if he should leave the mask off for a while just in case. Knowing that if he didn’t have his mask, he couldn’t transform back into his true form. With a heavy sigh, Mera leans down and takes the mask into his hands to peer at it, noticing that the mask was covered in foam, “What a mess..” He mutters, thinking back to the bear he had fought to give him this result. The bear had the same foam falling from its maw, did it transfer over to Mera when he got bit? Mera was deep in thought, trying to figure out how he could fix this without performing a healing ritual. @Vava Valentine

Elora nodded, frowning as he seemed to still be in poor shape. She was thankful that the illness seemed to have subsided, but... why on earth did this happen? Had it purely been from the bear's bite? She didn't know, and it frightened her beyond belief. What if this happened again! That was something that terrigied her completely. She stood up and went to his side. "May...May I go wash your mask? Maybe washing it will help get rid of the sickness?" She asked quietly, tilting her head as she reached for the mask. Her fingers brushed across the cheek, staying clear away from the foam, but also holding it. "Is...Is this your first time taking the mask off?" She asked. @Chimera

Mera feels Elora’s touch brush against him, turning his gaze over to her. With a defeated sigh, Mera hands the mask over to her. It’s not like he had many options right now, “Be gentle with it.” He adds, trusting Elora to take care of it for a few moments, not bothering to answer Elora’s last question. As he lets the mask go from his possession, Mera steps towards the building, placing his hand on the entrance and leaning himself against it. His body felt weak and filled with exhaustion, yawning, Mera pushes himself into the building and drags himself over to a small crate next to the barrels of water, sitting down with a ‘creak’. Dipping his fingers into the water beside him, he submerges his hand into the clear liquid before pulling his hand out and splashing himself in the face. Peering over into the barrel, he takes notice of his face, remembering the last time he had taken his mask off. It’s been over half a century since then and he for sure became more human-like in the meantime. Leaning his head back against the cold brick wall, his eyes close, taking a deep breath in and trying to calm himself down. @Vava Valentine

Elora sighed softly as he ignored her. She hadn't meant to cause him so much trouble, but it seemed that that was all she had done! Was she really this useless? She didn't think so. She followed him outside but she went to the barrels instead. She set the mask on the ground before she cupped her hands and dipped them into the barrel. She took some water out and tossed it onto the mask, washing the foam away. She then picked the mask up and with one hand, scooped some water onto the mask again. Once it was clean, she walked over to Mera. She held his mask out. "Here... I think I cleaned it as best as I could. I..." She stopped, looking down. She rubbed her arm, looking back up at Mera. "I'm really sorry that you got hurt because of me, Mera. If...If you don't want me to come back after you bring me back... I won't ever come back. I give you my word. If...If you tell me not to come back, I won't." @Chimera

Mera sits there, listening to the sounds of Elora scoop water from the barrels and splashing them onto the mask. After a few seconds, Elora had spoken up and given his mask back, taking it into his hands before tying it up to his pants. Once Elora begins to talk about her going back, Mera pauses, “I’m perfectly capable of making my own decisions, Elora.” He starts, looking over at her, “I chose to risk getting hurt, not you.” Running his hand through his hair and feeling a low rumble in his stomach, “Besides, the company is nice.” Mera looks over at his wound, lifting the bandages to see that the blood had stopped pooling like it had before, relieved. Carefully setting the bandage back into place, he smooths it out with his finger tips. @Vava Valentine

Elora's eyes widened as he told her that he chose to risk getting hurt, and the company was nice. He... He liked her company?! She blushed, smiling softly. When he played with his bandages, she sighed. "Don't play with your bandages! You could tear the wounds open." She said softly. She went to him, and she just stared at him for a second. He was still taller than her, even though he was sitting. She didn't look afraid. She actually... admired him. She took over his new form. The removal of his mask had made her just reinspect him. But, she also looked at him because he was just so interesting! Suddenly, Elora stepped forward. She was between his legs now. She leaned down and she wrapped her arms around his neck. She lightly hugged him, being mindful not to touch his wound with her arms or chest. @Chimera

Mera jumps slightly at Elora’s sudden command to not mess around with the bandages covering his wound. Letting his hand fall back down onto his lap he stares over at her, noticing she had definitely gotten closer. Looking at where Elora was positioned, Mera feels a pair of arms wrap around his neck before being taken in for a squeeze. Confused, Mera angles his head. What is this? Is this some sort of plea? An attempt of anger maybe? Mera eventually speaks up, “Is everything okay?” He adds, still not sure on how he should respond to this new behavior. Not thinking much of it, Mera places his hands upon Elora’s hips, pushing on them slightly to see if Elora was making any sort of expression that Mera could understand. @Vava Valentine

Elora blushed a little as she felt Mera pushing at her hips. "Everything's fine. This is called a hug. People do this when they want to show someone that... they like them." She said, trying to think of how best to explain a hug to someone. "You can hug someone when you're trying to comfort them, or, show that you like them. It just means... 'I'm here for you' and 'I want to hold you'. If it bothers you, I can let you go." She said, even though she hadn't released her arms. She was standing in front of him, her arms wrapped around his neck. She was a few inches away from him, her eyes meeting his. Had he truly never been hugged before? There was so much he didn't know! @Chimera
Avatar
Mera takes notice that Elora’s face had turned a slight shade of red, not understanding what emotion was being shown. After Elora had explained what a ‘hug’ was, Mera takes his hands and wraps them around Elora’s waist, pulling her in to return it. He did enjoy her company..even if she was human, “Like this?” He asks, applying a bit of pressure. Mera hadn’t been this close to a human he didn’t plan on harming before, it was a completely new experience that he, surprisingly, didn’t mind. As he held her close, his eyes met up with hers, noticing that Elora was staring right into his the entire time, but he hadn’t realized until now. The atmosphere seemed to drown out as he focused primarily on Elora, listening to her heartbeat as he sat there, making sure he wasn’t doing the wrong thing. @Vava Valentine

Elora chuckled softly as Mera held her back. He even applied some pressure, pulling her close. His hug felt nice and warm and secure. She nuzzled against him, his fur warm and soft, yet a bit coarse. "Just like that." She said quietly. He wasn't as clueless as she though! Elora pulled back after a minute, her eyes going to his. "So...Did that feel okay?" She asked, tilting her head slightly. "Hugs can be really nice, especially when you need some comfort." She wasn't sure how often he needed comfort, but perhaps he needed some every now and then? She wasn't entirely sure! @Chimera

Mera basks in the embrace, his eyes closing for a moment as Elora sinks into him. A few seconds pass and her warmth disappears as she pulls away, Mera’s hands falling back onto his lap as she steps aside. With a soft hum Mera nods, “You’re very warm.” He chuckles before getting to his feet, “Most humans I touch are dead.” He adds before stepping towards the barrel and scooping some water into his hand before taking a sip. “Do humans need comfort often?” He asks, trying to keep the conversation alive to show some interest. His tail swings to the side, stretching his torso and adjusting the mask kept on his side. @Vava Valentine

She stayed where she was as he got up and started to drink. "Not always, but yeah, I'd say so. We get sad, or upset, and that's usually when we need comfort." She had remembered many times when she needed comfort, and having someone there to help her through painful or sad times was always much better than trying to deal with it alone. "If...If you ever need a hug again, you can just hug me!" She said, blushing a bit with embarrassment. "Humans are pretty fragile... as I'm sure you know." She laughed. "But, comfort doesn't have to be just for humans." @Chimera
Avatar
Mera turns to look back at Elora, noticing the familiar redness form onto her cheeks, “I’ve never recalled myself needing comfort before.” He pauses, “But it was nice.” He adds before walking over towards the entrance, staring out of it and into the forest ahead, “Are you hungry at all?” He asks, knowing damn well he is. It's been a few hours since he had last eaten and he needed to refill his energy if he were to heal after the fight. Leaning back against the brick, Mera turns his head to look back at Elora, “I know a good fishing spot near the grotto.” He adds. @Vava Valentine
Avatar
Elora smiled as he said that it was nice. "I'm glad. If you ever need it again, you know where to find me." Just as he asked if she was hungry, her stomach growled loudly, making the girl blush. She nodded quickly, a heavy blush on her cheeks. "Yeah, food might be a good idea. I used to go fishing for my parents while they worked! I'm actually a very good fisher!" She said excitedly. She went to stand beside him. "Ready?" @Chimera
Avatar
Mera chuckles, “Probably not better than the professional himself.” He gloats before stepping out of the building and starting off towards the grotto they had been to earlier, “We’ll see how well you fare once we get there.” He hums, pushing himself through the brush and bramble within the trees. It’s been some time since he had fished in this form so, it would definitely pose some sort of challenge. @Vava Valentine
Avatar
Elora laughed and followed after him. "I'll have to make a fishing rod. I take it you don't use tools to fish? Do you use your claws and teeth?" She asked, curious as to how he would catch his own food. He was part animal so he must use animalistic tactics, right? @Chimera
Avatar
Mera glances back at Elora, raising a brow, “A fishing pole?” He chuckles, “Just use your hands. That’s what I do.” He adds, lifting his hands up to notice that his claws aren’t visible anymore. Mera hasn’t gone this long in a humanoid form before and he started to get nervous if he’d ever get to transform back into his true identity. @Vava Valentine
Avatar
Elora’s eyes widened as he told her to just use her hands. “I…I’ve never done that before. Will you show me how to do it?” She smiled, looking at his hands. “That’s really cool! I want to catch fish with my hands! Is that how you always do it?”
Avatar
Mera nods in response to Elora’s question, “How else are you supposed to do it when you’re like me?”. After a few more minutes of pushing through the bramble and stepping on broken branches, A stream comes into view. The stream appears to be running down the side of the rocks encompassing the grotto they had been to prior. The water pooled into a nice and clean fishing spot, a place most animals would be seen gathering when no one was around to disturb them. Mera steps over to the edge of the pool, staring down into the swirling liquid. Taking notice of some movement, Mera begins to untie the mask from his waist, holding it in his hands before stepping over to a stump and setting it on top to let it rest. “Salmon tend to spawn here, now’s the perfect time to fish.” He speaks, his stomach grumbling as he thinks about the food. @Vava Valentine
Avatar
Elora followed him to the stream and she nodded up at him. The pool of water was calm and still. She could see a large group of salmon swimming through the water, their silver and pink scales flashing in the sun. She looked around for a large stick. She found one and she kept looking around. Soon, she found a long vine and a curved rock. This would most likely be her best bet. She tied the vine to the top of the stick, and then she tied the other end of the vine to the rock. "There we go!" She went to the edge of the pool and she knelt down, making sure to be quiet so she didn't scare any of the fish. She carefully set the 'lure' into the pool. She watched Mera and she nodded. "Have you ever cooked the fish you catch?" @Chimera
Avatar
Mera watches as Elora gathers specific items from around the area, his brow raising as he shakes his head. Once she had gathered her items and built her rod, Mera looks back into the water, “Cooked?” He hums, “That’s a human thing.” As Elora had gently set her rod into the pool, Mera set his eyes on a fish, bending down and getting ready to reach in and grab it. A few seconds pass before Mera’s arm dives into the water, pulling a fish out of the liquid below. It was a decent size, but without his claws, it was extremely difficult to hold onto the squirming animal. Using both hands to hold it close to his chest, Mera glances over to Elora, “See. Easy.” He gloats before the fish’s tail hits him directly in the face a few times, trying to escape his grasp. @Vava Valentine

"Well, I'll show you how it tastes and you can tell me if you like it better." She laughed, shaking her head. Mera was quite silly. Mera swiftly caught a fish in his hands, but he seemed to have trouble holding the fish, as the animal's tail whacked him in the face in a desperate attempt to escape. Elora burst out laughing, her arms wrapping around her sides as she couldn't contain her laughter. "Mera! You have to hold it still! You're so silly!" She chuckled. She felt a fish tug at her line and she swiftly pulled the rod, yanking the fish onto the bank. She grabbed a rock and pinned the fish to the ground with her hand and then brought the rock down onto the fish's head, swiftly and effectively ending it so it didn't suffer. "There. That's one for me! Come on Mera! You're falling behind!" She teased, winking at him as she went to sit on the rock again and cast her line out once again. @Chimera
Avatar
As Mera tries to contain the fish in his hands, he eventually straightens it out, holding it close to his chest as he swiftly kills it, tossing it to the side, chuckling as he looks at Elora, “Looks like I’m catching up.” He teases before staring into the water again, searching for another fish to grab. The water below came up to his calves as he waded through the clear water, his stomach still growling as he thinks about the food he has already caught. Every now and then, Mera would glance back at Elora, making sure she wasn’t getting ahead of him. @Vava Valentine
Avatar
Elora laughed softly as Mera stated that he was catching up. "Guess I'll have to hurry up!" She laughed. She continued casting her rod and catching fish again and again. Finally, she caught about six fish and she had enough to make a nice meal. She looked over at Mera, "How many do you have?" She asked, a smile on her face. @Chimera
Avatar
As Mera continued to pull up a couple fish, some flying from his grasp and back into the water, he looks back to the small pile of three. This whole ‘clawless’ thing was a nightmare, how was he losing to a human? With a soft mutter he speaks, “Three..” Looking away and still trying to peer into the water for more fish, Mera tries to keep his composure. @Vava Valentine

Elora giggled softly as he sulked. "It's ok! I had a tool. You had just your hands! I bet if I didn't use my fishing rod, I'd have zero! Here. Watch." She set her fishing rod down and she went to the pond. She spotted a large fish swimming by, so she slowly, ever so slowly, went towards the pond's edge. She slowly stepped in, being careful not to make any unnecessary movements, and then, she lunged forward. However, she had none of the skills that Mera had, so, she slipped and fell directly into the water, soaking herself entirely. "AH!!" She yelped, sitting up in pure embarrassment. "Dammit!" She laughed, shaking her sopping wet hair from her eyes. @Chimera
