"You are just fucking stupid, you know that? You really are the dumbest human being that I have ever met. You live in my apartment and you think you have rights to your own fuckin' privacy and thoughts. No! You do what I say when I say to do it! Got it?" This wasn't the first time that Ben Gardener had heard this and, unfortunately, probably wouldn't be the last time that he heard it if her stuck around. He had thought about leaving, but this was starting to be the last straw... But, he had no where to go. He couldn't just leave... Or could he? Ben stood up from his seat as he was getting berated by his girlfriend, Brittany, "I think we might need to let emotions calm before we talk anymore." As he would try to shuffle around her, she would push him in his chest. Being 6'2", 200 pounds, it really didn't register as he continued to try and get around her, but when she would smack him across his cheek, that would be the motion that set our story into motion. "You hit me..." Ben would say, almost a shocked and appalled expression crossing his face, "I am leaving, Brittany..." Brittany would step forward, smacking him again, "Yeah, go ahead and leave big man! Don't come back either, you little bitch..." Ben would scoot around her and hastily move to the door of the apartment. Dressed in a t-shirt and shorts, he would walk as quickly as he could out the door and down to the street from the apartment complex. The moment playing over a thousand times in his head. She had never gotten physical with him before, never ever... He walked for about five or six blocks before he realized the cold winter air was nipping at his unclothed body. He couldn't go back now... He couldn't... The University campus was something that was very compact, but the time he was going through the campus, he realized he was now in the residential area of the campus.

Stores surrounded him on all sides, and the thought occurred to buy a jacket, or sweatpants, or something... Something that he could at least walk around for a few more hours and not have to deal with her. He walked forward to the store. After a couple minutes, he walked to the register of the little alumni store with clothing in hand. He smiled at the clerk who began to ring him up as he would reach for his... shit... he left his wallet at the apartment with her. And his phone didn't have his card information. As he would pat his pockets, he would sigh, "Shit..." he muttered under his breath, before he would see a familiar face behind him.

Molly had just been out on the shopping square, where there were your typical shops. Target, a CVS pharmacy, convenience and liquor store, a smoke shop, a Petco. Places of that nature. She wore black leather leggings, off-brand Ugg boots and a soft brown oversized cardigan, her unruly blonde hair pulled back with a copper colored claw clip and she wore her reading glasses out. It was later in the evening on a chilly winter day. The sun had just finished going down. Molly’s arm was getting tired of holding her basket. She was at the alum shop that also sold stationary, to grab some notebooks and pens to replenish her desk. The gentleman in front of her in line appeared to just be in a T-shirt and shorts, which was surprisingly odd for a day of this weather. The stranger turns around only for Molly to recognize him as one of her students. She smiles a little bit, and looks at the man. “Benjamin, correct? What are you doing here with no jacket?” @Jake

"Hello, ma'am..." he said with a smile, as he turned around to see her, "Umm, that is kinda of what I was doing, but I don't have my wallet on me and no information on my phone..." He sighed and giggled as he looked back, pulling the merchandise away from the counter so that she may go ahead and place hers down, "It is perfectly fine, I will be heading out soon and getting back home. Even though I don't really want that..." He couldn't help but let a tear of exhaustion escape his eye which he quickly turned to wipe away.

Molly looked at her student with an expression of concern, her eyebrows furrowing. “No, no,” she refers to the cashier who awkwardly stood there and watched this whole interaction, “Put that back.” She watches him slowly return everything back to the flat countertop. Molly also grabs a plush hoodie with the uni’s emblem on the front off the rack, estimating the man’s size and plops it onto the counter. She slips a blue metallic credit card discreetly to the cashier and piles the rest of the various items in her basket onto the counter, watching as all of it gets balled into the plastic bags. After receiving her receipt, Molly grabs Benjamin by the wrist and pulls him aside to stop holding up the line and draw any attention away from the two that others may have been watching. She didn’t care if they were, but she wanted to protect his privacy and dignity. “Look,” Molly lowered her voice to a near whisper. “I don’t know what happened to you. You look hurt. But please, take these clothes. Can I get you a hot coffee? Maybe a warm meal? Do you need a referral to campus security?” This is insane, but she would also do anything for one of her students. She needed to know they made it home safe every night. @Jake

He sighed as she began to say put that stuff back, he didn't like handouts, this felt like a handout, and he didn't like that. But, once she presisted, he would place the stuff back on the counter and she grabbed a hoodie as well, which he smiled at... "Thank you, Ms. Anderson..." Before he could continue she lowered her voice to a whisper and she spoke in a hushed tone about him and take the clothes, asking if he needed a hot coffee or hot meal.... "I..." he was almost to startled about the whole situation to even speak, "I... I really could use a friend right now." His eyes would begin to tear up, he couldn't think in the moment. What could he confess, what should he confess, what she believe him, would anyone? All the questions rumbling in his head seemed to pour out in just tears in the moment, that he managed to poorly hide in the moment.

Molly looks into his eyes, she could see the hurt. She knew that something wasn’t right here, but she also wasn’t trying to pressure him at all. She just wanted to be helpful. It was hard for people to accept things sometimes, she understood that. But she knew that somewhere out there, somebody would have done the same for her. “It‘s okay, you don’t have to tell me details, if you don’t want to. But if there is anything I can do to help…” Her students were her favorite people, and she would give the jacket off her back or her last few dollars for a hot meal if she knew they would be safe. If it weren’t for them, she wouldn’t have a career. They care about each other. Molly noticed the tears falling down his face so she leads the two to walk out together, “Of course I can be your friend right now. Come, let’s go somewhere that you can get something to eat, is that okay with you?” @Jake

He sighs as he looks at her, his eyes still producing tears. He would slowly begin to pull the hoodie over his head and follow her along, taking respite in the warm new hoodie as they began to walk. When she offered to go somewhere where they could eat, he nodded and spoke up, "Sure, that would be nice," he said with a sniff, that he didn't know was caused by the cold weather or the crying that he had been doing, but he would quickly speak up, "And don't worry, I will pay you back for everything I promise." He had never looked at his professors in college as anything other than that, just professors, but seeing her in the leather leggings, Uggs, and done up to go out shopping instead of a stuffy pants suit was almost... surreal.

The bitter cold air slapped them in the face as they stepped outside, the street lamps illuminated the dark street along with the shop signs lit up. Molly sniffles as well, the sudden temperature change causing this. “The last thing I want you to worry about, dear, is paying me back for anything.” She hoped that statement had made it clear. He’s a uni student, life and funds are difficult as it is. The two continue down the concrete path, not too many people were out- they were probably all in the warm somewhere. “I’m thinking. We should go to one of my favorite places.” Molly smiles at Benjamin, her cheeks stinging now from the icy wind. She should have brought earmuffs, or a beanie to keep her ears warm. This restaurant in particular, was Molly’s favorite for a reason. It was tavern themed, the menu offering plenty different comforting food items. Pastas, pizza, wraps and sandwiches, a variety of appetizers. There was a fireplace in the center of the walkway as she pushed open the heavy door to let them inside. It was toasty and inviting. “Get anything you want, okay?” @Jake

As he follow along, he would notice the cold air wrapping around his body in the moment. Especially his legs that were uncovered from the cold by his shorts. He would smile as she would tell him that he would not need to pay her back, but he definitely would be doing it, regardless of how she felt about it. He would figure out a way to make this right, but in the moment, he would let her lead the moment. He follow along, staying almost silent as he followed like a little lost puppy in the moment. She brought him to an Italian tavern style restaurant, one that he has been to multiple times as it is a staple of the campus. "Thank you, Professor Anderson," he would say with a smile as he would find a seat near the fireplace in the middle of the restaurant, "I will definitely keep it light. Thank you again for this, you have no idea of the night that I am having..."

Molly’s cheeks were tingling with numbness and pink from the cold, but surely they would warm up now that they were inside. “Please dear, you don’t have to call me that,” she looks at the shivering man, “You can call me Molly.” A waitress with a high blonde ponytail and a bright smile greets them, with glasses of water and a bowl of popcorn. Menus were magically tucked under her arm and she drops them right onto the table. “Hi there, my name is Hanna, can I start you off with anything to drink?” “A hot cup of coffee for me, please honey.” Molly smiled back at the waitress and picks up the large, laminated menu to pop it open and start reading. Hopefully this wasn’t awkward… right? She was just trying to do something nice for one of her students. Nothing more. But she couldn’t help but feel a warmth inside at the way his expressions changed, from being upset and tearful just a while before to now being… content. At least, she hoped he was content. When the waitress was gone, it was just the two of them. Chatter from families at other tables filled the room and it smelled of delicious pizza. The fireplace gently crackled, and an older gentleman off on the other side of the dining room played a lively song on a piano. Molly’s eyes dart around the room, no one that she could recognize at least. Maybe she was a little worried about that, but it’s not like anything was going on, right? @Jake

As the waitress would come over, Ben would do as any normal college guy would do and take in her beauty in the moment. She was definitely a college student, not that he hadn't seen her around, but she was of that age in the college town, he couldn't help but smile back at her bright smile. "Umm, can I get a hot chocolate and a water..." A little bit of an odd combo, but he needed both in the moment, "Also, I will look over the menu for a minute." As the chipper girl bounced away, he couldn't help but follow her. His eyes bouncing with her almost, but when he would return back to the seats with Professor Ander... Molly as she wanted to be called... he couldn't help but feel a happiness creep over him in the moment, "Thank you so much again," he would exclaim as he opened the menu again, "Not many professors around her would do this, Molly..." Trying it out, he felt a little awkward saying her name and not her professional name, but he smiled over at her. But instead of meeting a smile, she could see her eyes darting around the room. He couldn't help but feel like she was looking for something or someone, maybe she didn't wanna be seen with him, he couldn't stop his mouth, "I mean, we can do a to go thing... I don't want you getting caught by someone..."

Molly sighs, and peers over at him over the top of her menu. “I don’t think it would be an issue, but if you’re more comfortable with it, we could take this to go and-“ she interrupted herself to pause and think about it. What was she doing? Would she come off as a creep if she were to invite him back to her place? The waitress happily pushed a small cart up to their table, with two hot pitchers and a third pitcher of iced water. She pours the coffee, sets it down gently, then proceeds to pour out the hot chocolate and water for the table. “Did you two still need a minute to think?” Okay, we’ll take this to go. He seems to be uncomfortable here out in public. “I’ll take the chicken Parmesan with angel hair and a cheesy garlic bread for the table, but honey, I’m so sorry if this inconveniences you- could you put that in to go please?” Molly smiles at the lady, and then looks back at Benjamin to allow him to order. ‘Don’t be shy,’ she mouthed at him. “Of course! That’ll be coming right up, to go. You all can wait here for that and I’ll bring that out to you all boxed up.” The piano music picks up, and a table next to them got seated, consisting of an elderly couple and two middle aged women. “I can walk you back to your place, with the food and your new belongings.. if that’s something you’d like.” She hoped he wouldn’t hesitate if he needed help or anything. @Jake

The creeping feeling was almost confirmed in the moment that she confirmed that 'if he would be more comfortable,' they should just leave... "I don't..." Before he could say anything further, he was interrupted by the waitress who was asking if they needed more time to think, but she would go ahead and take the lead, ordering the chicken parm and geting it to go. He smiled over at her and up at the waitress, "Umm, I think I will have the same thing, the same way, that sounds good..." He nervously handed over the menu to the waitress before looking back at her, the piano music picked up and he felt a chill in the air. He was trying to work up the nerve to ask, in a polite way, if she was embarassed to be around him before she brought up walking him home... "Umm, that might not be the best idea..." he took a drink of the hot chocolate in front of him before looking at the ground, "I kinda of walked out of a domestic... situation... tonight. I didn't like how she was hitting me..." His eyes would begin to water again.

Molly could sense the growing anxiousness and tension coming from Benjamin. From the tone of his voice, to the expression on his face. She tried her best to get this from escalating right away. Molly nods and looks Benjamin in the eyes, after he had made the confession of what truly happened to him earlier that evening. “Okay. I know that’s very scary for you. I can help you with this.” She sighs quietly and makes sure her voice is lowered so for confidentiality, no one would be able to hear the two- not that it was a major concern over the live music anyway. “We have a few options here. I can contact campus security to get your place evicted by who ever is harming you. You can stay with my brother. He’s an RA in one of the dorm buildings. He has a spare bedroom in his quad. Or.. I do have a spare bedroom in my basement. It’s fully furnished, carpeted, and comfortable. The room at the quad is just as comfortable as well, and the beds are brand new this year.” Molly wasn’t exactly certain that what she was offering was appropriate, at least the last option. But she knew that she couldn’t let him go back to whatever this situation was. No matter what, she would likely have security remove whoever it was from the premise. She wasn’t one to take these kinds of things lightly. “If you choose not to go back to your place, I will have an officer escort you to get all of your belongings out of there. You surely can’t leave them there. Whoever this is, won’t hurt you again. I promise.” The peppy young woman comes back to the table with styrofoam boxes of food wrapped up neatly in a tied bag and Molly slips her the cash for this, “Thank you dear. Have a good night.” She reaches for the handle of the food bag, awaiting his response. This wasn’t something that just came easily to do as living in a whole new place was rather difficult. @Jake

She went immediately into Professor mode, he didn't need that right now. He needed a friend. He almost stopped here, but she would continue to give him options and one that he didn't expect at all. She offered to let him stay at her home in the basement. "I don't really want to be on campus at all, if that makes sense," he said as he wiped tears away from his eyes, "I just kinda need a place to just sit at for a while and figure things out. So, I would like to be in your basement if that is okay." When she promised that she would not allow his ex to hurt him anymore, he could just smile as he looked up at her, "Thank you for that. I will contact campus police later tonight to do that..."

It was quite honestly a part of Molly’s nature by now, to try her best to care for her students. She couldn’t help it if she seemed to ‘professor’ him, it wasn’t something she intended to do. Molly stands up and waits for him to follow along, and they continue the rest of their conversation. “I’d be happy to let you do that. Come on, we can go back there and enjoy our dinner. And then I can show you to the bedroom.” She explained, in a calm manner to not overwhelm him. The winds that previously blew harsh between the buildings had calmed down, so the walk to the home wasn’t too cold. It was more of a mild chill at this point. The lamps illuminated the path and it was a clear night. She carried the bags from the shop and the restaurant, setting them down on the doorstep as she fiddles through her bag to find the key which unlocked the front door. The door pops open and she flips on the light switch. The heat was powered on already and beyond the front hallway was a living room, kitchen with barstools and an island, a carpeted staircase leading upward with a wooden railing, and a closed door down the hall for a bathroom. It was simply decorated and inviting. A small houseplant sat on the windowsill, and a fluffy orange cat was perched on the back of the couch silently. “Okay. So, this is my place. Feel free to anything, there’s drinks and water in the fridge, there’s a restroom down that hallway behind that closed door. And of course if you’d like to eat I can show you the basement next.” @Jake
