David caught the subtle shift in Sally’s face when she noticed what his car smelled like. Unfortunately, his wife had asked him to drop her and their son to school that morning before he went on his little solo hike for the weekend. And he had been unable to really refuse after the things she’d let him do to her the night before.
“Sorry about the smell, Sally, I hope you don’t have a sensitive nose. I borrowed my boss’ car for the trip. Julia was nice enough to lend it to me since we go way back.”
He drove them through the streets of Athens till they were able to get to a large road that cut through most of the city. Sally could see the generally white aesthetic of the low buildings whisk by outside her window, interspersed with the occasional high rise. There were parts of this city that still had the preserved look of its ancient heritage and other parts that could be swapped in with any other modern European city.
They eventually made it off the large main road, going roughly north east. The landscape around them began to open up, allowing a view of the green plains beyond just the ocean of man made constructs. Then suddenly, they were on another highway, but this time, the hustle and bustle of the larger city was left behind them and they were surrounded by grassland, the occasional cluster of buildings passing by them.
As they drove on, water began to peek into Sally’s vision to her left and out of nowhere, they were suddenly driving along the top of a slightly curved dam, with mostly still, clear, blue water to their left and a long drop to their right, with a valley under them, continuing on into uneven terrain with greenery dotting the landscape.
When David saw her excitedly observing the sights, he asked “Would you like to stop and gawk or do you want to get to the best bit right away?”
