The air rolled crisp on the verge of bitter off Shipbreaker Bay as the sun rose steadily over the distant line which marked the ends of the ocean. The seasons were just beginning to turn now, but no one in the market seemed to notice save Beau. Her glistening hazel eyes were turned heavenward as she was led along the narrow, winding streets of the little village her mistress had determined to pass through on their way to Kingsgrave, the seat of House Lonmouth and the home of her mistress' distant relatives. Beau had, as usual, assumed her dragon form and was a spot of brilliant white surrounded by a multitude of vibrant colors - the market was filled with all manner of trinkets and cheap 'finery' which could be bought for precious little coin and then promptly given away. Why her mistress had seen fit to pause here, of all places, rather mystified her - expensive clothes and jewels had been all she had known under the care of Lady Benning and the rather economic nature of the goods on display seemed a vast departure from her usual fare. She bobbed along at Lady Benning's side, her mouth clamped shut and her wings bound firmly to her sides by a matching muzzle and harness of golden braid. The rather narrow rope wasn't truly enough to contain her should she choose to escape, but Lady Benning needn't know. Beau was simply happy to be out and about for once and not cooped up in a parlor. She practically pranced her way down the narrow stretch between stalls and danced in place each time her mistress paused to admire the wares within.

Her eyes wandered aimless over the intensely interesting scene - so many and varied people, and even a few dragons to be seen! One rather large, brutish creature - a wingless Waggoner - was busily hauling a large cart filled with pottery. His great, blunt head and drab, earthy coloration immediately caught Beau's attention and she stared openly at it, tilting her head from side to side in readily apparent curiosity. The Waggoner only gradually became aware that he was being watched, but the moment his beady black eyes fixed upon the brilliant plumage of the Midnight nearby, he began to wuffle and growl in agitation. Unaccustomed to interaction with others of her kind, Beau continued to stare openly - not realizing that the Waggoner took her open and fearless gaze as a taunt, if not an outright challenge. He bellowed long and low and began to turn his great body toward her, ignoring entirely the weight of his burden as though it were nothing at all. His handler immediately began to bark commands and tug at his leads but the beast would not answer - he seemed determined to engage the feathery menace even within the narrow confines of the busy market.

Realizing the Waggoner's intent a second too late, Beau emitted a thoroughly unladylike squawk and attempted to bound away - forgetting entirely that her lead was still wrapped around the wrist of Lady Benning. Clearing one stall and landing on the roof of another, she turned to look back just in time to see Lady Benning topple over a large urn as she was dragged nearly limp behind. With a trill of concern, Beau abandoned her attempt to escape and hopped eagerly over to her mistress' prone form in an effort to see that she was unharmed...only to receive a steady stream of expletives and the angry boxing of her ears. "You wretched, worthless creature! Why are you physically incapable of behaving?! I cannot take you anywhere! All descends into chaos!" Beau arched her neck and bowed her head, unflinching beneath the blows her mistress dealt her. Once or twice she attempted to appease her with murmured apologies, but Lady Benning would not hear her.
