(It is an M1 Garand, not an M4 Garand.) Private John J Downes, a farmboy from rural Tennessee was one of the men to jump out of the C-47s and down into certain death. Hearing the gunfire roar below him as deployed his chute. Although scared out of his mind at that rate, he knew for the sake of mankind he could not run away as he checked his gear, the M1A1 and his M1911 along with the rest of gear still with him.

Downes heard his squad leader and thankfully had five men with him. Following him towards Bastogne without saying a word. Keeping his M1A1 with him and unfolding the stock in a hurry.

Downes threw himself behind cover, taking potshots at the machine gunner and the support too. "Do we have support comin' our way?!" He asked the squad leader as he kept shooting.

"Shit." Downes heard and soon drew out a grenade and soon threw it at the machine gun. Waiting for it to explode, indeed exploding as he waited for more orders.
