1895, after China's defeat to Japan during the First Sino-Japanese War to Imperial Japan and the signing of the Treaty of Shimonoseki which had Formosa ceded to Japan along with the Penghu Islands. Private Hiroji Natsume and many other soldiers of the Imperial Japanese Army would soon land on the island to maintain order and the subsequent rule of the newly annexed island.
