Adam lulled his head in boredom from atop his horse. He glanced over at his father who still, despite many hours at of riding, kept himself straight on his horse like the proud king he was. They hadn't seen anything apart from trees and plains in over a day. Saying that Adam was bored and itching to actually do something was an understatement. They'd been riding west for over two days along the loosely traveled road towards the Vamistian border, a long and wide river that went to the sea and cut through the heart of the continent. The kingdom of Zemira, Adam's home, was a large country that would take someone weeks to cross on foot. They neighbored Vamista, a kingdom not much different from their own. They'd been at conflict for years, longer than his father had even been alive. His father, Alister the Brave, gained his reputation for sparing soldiers who put down their arms and surrendered, allowing them to be sparred from the death that a battle would have brought. He even allowed most of them to go home unless they held a significant rank. If they were officers then Alister would often pry information from them. The two countries had never gone to all out war, meeting their large armies on the battlefield or taking land. They were both too large and powerful that too many would die for it to be worth it. The winner wouldn't be able to hold the spoils of war for long with the heavy losses and the inevitable civilian resistance. Instead, the countries had such bad blood that the people did the fighting on their own. Alister hates everything Vamistian but still tried repeatedly to stop the attacks. They only made tensions worse between the two nations. .

They were headed to solve this conflict that was older than anyone alive, other than the elves to the north, could remember. They had no idea what would solve this as it was a matter that was embedded in each countries heart. United by their hatred for the other. "Adam!" His father snapped, making Adam sit up suddenly. "You are a prince of Zemira. Do not let them see you slouch. And keep your tongue in check. This is the first time we've managed to arrange a peace conference in decades and you will not ruin it by insulting a lord." Adam looked over and gave a small smile to his father. "Lord Barahm deserved worse than me exposing his affair to the court. It's not my fault the man loves women nor is it my fault that he married an overly pious woman." His father gave a small laugh. "Lord Barahm deserves a kick in the teeth but this is no time for petty revenge. Two royal families are meeting. We need to present strong but not hostile. If someone insults you, and you know they will, I expect your to keep your mouth shut. Rant about it on our way back but not while we are attempting peace." Adam nodded. He understood the seriousness of what they were doing. He hoped he had the will power to resist the habit of speaking before he thought. They crossed over the ridgeline and looked down as rows of tents lined the far side of the river. A large tent, no doubt where they would be meeting, was placed just at the end of the bridge. Adam looked around the valley and noticed that there were no places to hide an army if this was an ambush. Large plains of grass that left no room for cover. He wondered if this would really be the day that the fighting would end.
