“Glasses?” “No.” “Wait, yes. I want to see.” Yorkie spoke to herself as she looked at her reflection in the full length mirror. She tilted her head to the side, eyeing the outfit she chose. She wasn’t too keen on.. fashion in general. A simply pair of light blue jeans and a sweater. It left almost everything to the imagination, compared to the outfits the others wore while clubbing. Her white sneakers were still as pristine as the day she ‘bought’ them. “Am I wearing… too much? No, it gets cold at night.” Her voice was soft, smooth like silk. It was quiet, just barely audible to anyone who wasn’t her, which was… well, no one. Yorkie stood alone in her small bachelor apartment. She could get something bigger, a beach house nearby overlooking the ocean, but why would she? She genuinely enjoyed the small quaint apartment. It was just her. Yorkie alone. Yorkie, alone. That was something she wanted to change. She wanted more friends. More people to talk too. She was beginning to grow tired of watching the sun rise alone. San Junipero, where the forever young can fall in love with life once again. Yorkie stared out the window, seeing the sun set. Crowds of people began to fill the streets of downtown San Junipero, music blasting from the many clubs. Friends enjoying their time together, yelling and laughing. A lot of the people down in the streets were those who were living. Alive. Dealing with the hardships of life. Financial struggle. Heartbreak. Job loss. Death. Here in San Junipero though, they didn’t have a care in the world. The fictional world that replaced the afterlife was free of money. If someone wanted something, they could have it. A small apartment on the top floor of a tall building? Check. A mansion that sat at the top of one of the many mountains that surrounded San Junipero. Done. Anything Yorkie could want, she could have… but making friends was a different story. She was the ‘odd one out’. Even when she was alive, she never qu

ite fit in. After her consciousness was uploaded to the San Junipero code when she passed over from life to death, Yorkie had hoped she would gain some sense of confidence, but to no avail. She was still the awkward woman she always has been. ”Oooh heaven is a place on Earth!” Yorkie heard the girls singing along to a song that played loudly outside. She smiled lightly, looking down at the crowd. “Now or never!” Yorkie said with a small smile, leaving her apartment. She walked down to join the crowds, weaving through the people as she walked into one of the clubs. The strobe lights flashed brightly, the bass of the music echoing in her chest. Everyone was dancing or singing, all with a drink in their hands. “I’ll have a… umm… a rum and coke.” Yorkie asked with a smile, trying to talk over the music so the ‘bartender’ could hear her.
