"Perfect," replied Alex. He raised a hand for the bartender, 4 fingers extended. The bartender took out a bottle of dark black liquor, pouring four shots at the bar next to them. "In that case, i'll be seeing you both in a couple hours." He walked over to the bar as he said these words, taking the shots and downing them one after the other. At the end, he took a sharp intake of breath, and then began walking towards the door.
"Who's us?" Ben called at him.
Alex chuckled. "You'll see," and then headed out the door. There was no question who had the winning hand here.
Once he'd left, the conversation at the table started up again - Chad was the first so speak, nearly vibrating with nervous energy. "Ooh, you two need to watch out if you're doing that. Alex rides with a rough crew. I mean, tough for me. Maybe not tough for you. I mean, not that you're a bunch of bad apples. I mean -"
"Relaaaax, Chad." Ben smiled at him, trying to muster up some confidence that would hide his concern. He turned to Clarissa. "If if can help us figure out more about your family, I'm in. I dont think Alex told us everything there is to know tonight." He turned back to Chad. "So, Chad. What's this crew of Alex's like? Hell, what is everything like. Tell us everything you know, we've got some catching up to do." Ben figured if they were going to be staying at the bar until closing, they may as well take advantage of the time with Chad.
The next few hours flew by as Chad told them all about vesen-kind: blutbaden and damonfeuer, reinegen and mauzhertz. Before they knew it, the bar was starting to close up, and 3am was quickly approaching. The two walked out of the bar - it was a strange sensation, being drunk in vesen form. The intoxication was there, but somehow their primal senses were even more heightened by the alcohol - it was as if the alcohol was suppressing what little human thought patterns were left while woged.
They parted ways with Chad - making sure to walk him out, the Lausenschlange was starting to look at him particularly hungrily, by the end of the night - and walked out into the field next to the bar, headed towards the forest at the properties' edge. At one point, Ben stopped to pull Clarissa in for a kiss. In the moonlit darkness, out in nature, in their beast forms, it felt so primal as their fur brushed against each other. Ben felt like he could lose himself in the feeling, lose his humanity and just be a beast with Clarissa. Being woged with her so long that night felt like running into a tunnel of darkness, where normal human life felt like the speck of light at the beginning of the tunnel that you were traveling further and further from.
Thinking of the task that lay ahead of them, Ben suddenly became fiercely protective of Clarissa. Who knows who they were about to meet out here, what they were about to hunt, but for all intents and purposes she was his mate here. He took her hand in his as they walked towards the edge of the field, a number of shadowy figures coming into focus upon the tree line.
