The sound of a trumpet blared throughout a lively square full of commoners as a procession of knights and squires made their way to the castle. The clapping of horse hooves, cheers from an overly eager crowd. There was something different about today's celebration and anyone could feel the hum of energy in the air. A small child on the shoulder of her father pointed to a pale figure marching ahead of the knights. “Da, whys there a woman?” The little boy stared as the woman halted and the men behind her stopped. “Shh son, if ye know what’s good ger ya. Just watch, tis history in the makin!” The boy's mother shushed him and swatted at his leg. The father grunted but otherwise didn’t respond.
It seemed that this woman in particular was the subject of a lot of discussion, it’s all anyone could talk about on today's knighting ceremony. Some were discussing her achievements, others discussing her looks and stature. By looking at her no one could tell she was thoroughly irritated. *Today is supposed to be a celebration, but what is the most discussed? Is it my undefeated record on sword fighting, my recommendation for knighthood by the king himself; No, of course it’s not. * Eve held back a scoff as the royal family made their appearance. Her father had prepped her for this day and she needed to hold in her temper the best she could. Being one of the king's advisors her father had high standing and Eve was thankful that he put in a good word with the king; but it was her merit that got her here today, nothing else. She’d had to prove herself twice as hard as any of the other knights here today to earn her spot because she was a woman but thankfully the king really valued her integrity and valor that he had witnessed when she helped defend the princess and queen from a bandit raid while returning from a visit from a neighboring kingdom.
