Alex stops at her level and after reading the note on her phone, he freezes. There's no way she's that kid from middle school. There *must * be other girls named Lily. But the memories Alex can piece back together all point to the same thing. Her smile hasn't even changed. Does she not recognize him? His heartbeat quickens and he starts to feel sweaty.
"I'm A.." they start, but the words won't come out. They try again, but fail. Swallowing with difficulty, their eyes dart everywhere but hers. If they lock eyes, she will remember, for sure. The strength in their legs seem to spill out and no matter how much they wipe the sweat off of their hands on their pants, they remain moist.
"Nevermind. I'm out. I'm not doing this." Out of the blue, without even having introduced himself, Alex makes a run for it. Not looking back, or paying attention to who he bumps into, he runs with all the strength left in him to make it outside the building. There, he quickly finds a bush and promptly spills the content of his stomach, however small it may be. "There"s no way in hell..." he speaks to himself, feeling his breath steadying but his heart still beating furiously in his chest.
