Adelina stood still in the center of her chambers, her eyes drifting around the room as if to distract herself from the overwhelming emotions bubbling inside her. It had been years since she had seen Galen, yet here he was, standing before her, so familiar and yet so different. She had always imagined this moment, but nothing could have prepared her for the flood of memories—the warmth of their childhood friendship, the quiet afternoons by the water, the laughter they shared. His voice, though deeper now, still carried the gentle warmth she remembered. Her lips parted to respond, but for a moment, no words came out.
The tension between them was palpable, both of them hesitant, uncertain of how to bridge the gap that time had created. She could feel his eyes on her, the unspoken emotions lingering between them. Finally, she smiled softly, a blend of nostalgia and nervousness.
“You’re being too modest, Galen,” she said, her voice quiet but warm, her gaze meeting his with a flicker of fondness. “It’s been so long... I hardly know what to say either. You’ve changed... but then again, maybe not so much.” She stepped closer, her heart pounding as she looked at him more closely. There was something rugged, more mature in his features , facial hair, broader shoulders but those kind eyes were the same.
“I’ve missed you,” she confessed softly, the vulnerability slipping into her tone, her gaze softening. Her hand hovered for a moment before she gently placed it on his arm, feeling the solidity of the knight he had become. “I’m not sure I could feel safe anywhere else but with you here... like before.” She smiled, the slightest blush warming her cheeks as her hand lingered on his arm.
