Their leader, Xander, was a monster in his own right. The Kingdom had long suffered from a Caste system, suppressing the poor and common folk. However, the common folk had even become gorged on a sense of supremacy from those who had to steal or beg to survive. And worse yet, few had been born with the Spark. The capability of manifesting Superhuman abilities that classified one as an “Adventurer”. Venturing out to find treasures of eras passed. To fight and kill monsters who caused issues for towns that didn't have walls to protect them. Xander had been a rare case. His father and mother, both peasants, had apparently possessed the ability to pass on a spark. So, for the first time in generations, a Peasant had been born with the capability to become an adventurer.
The Kingdom had hunted them down and killed them for their thieveries, although Xander had always had a feeling it was specifically BECAUSE of the fact that he'd been born with this ability. He had been given to some family friends who'd raised him from childhood until they could not. Their daughter had been his best friend and first love, however, Xander always knew she was going places. Men in all statuses had asked her to marry them, and despite her appearance, she was the best blacksmith in the world. Her father had taught her well, and she'd improved upon his teachings. She'd always been supportive of his decisions, and she'd tried to help him by making him a set of armor and a sword. He'd refused, only wanting to get what he could afford to not take advantage of her kindness. Last he'd heard from her, she was working with the Prince and King for the Military. He imagined she and the majority of the Peasant and common people weren't being told about the war happening.
He'd been a Beacon to the peasants and commoners. A Peasant who brought himself up. He began to do things that left high class and Nobility stumbling. Other adventurers had attempted to stop him, and no matter how much stronger they were than him, he continued his adventuring. Until nearly a year ago. He thought perhaps the Nobility was finally willing to work with him. To give more opportunities for the less fortunate to rise up. Instead, he was brought to an opening in the earth. A place where they had rumored that the giants who once plagued the earth were banished too. He was gagged, and being outnumbered, they pushed him in. He'd plummeted for what felt like hours before he managed to use his sword to slow his speed, causing it to break. But he managed to use that so that the impact hadn't entirely killed him.
He'd crawled for his life, living down in those caves for weeks. Eating the flesh of monsters before he witnessed a giant for the first time. A hulking creature that was similar to a dragon, but instead bore no wings and only two front legs. However, while he'd been crippled at the time, he'd been setting up traps. It had been how he'd gathered monsters to eat before. So, after using a bit of magic to cause loose stalactites to fall, it impaled the giant in several locations. Desperation and near Starvation could do horrible things to a man. He ate it ravenously. It had changed his body, causing his legs to heal. His body to begin strengthening. He'd found a new strength, a new power. But he changed after that. There wasn't much left of the optimist whom most believed to be dead. He found a way back up, and after having been gone for perhaps a month, he emerged from those caves a new man.
